I won’t be playing this one as I’ve spent years building up my table collection. I actually thought “wow, did these guys get bought out by Epic? Aaaah, Embracer Group, gotcha.” Such a shame when huge companies come in and destroy things they don’t understand to make a few bucks for their stockholders and the board.
The lack of carry over, and the subscription model were clues enough, but their launch trailer was made for such a general audience, I knew they were basically trying to be the Funko Pop of pinball. “All your favorite brands”, “even if you don’t play pinball”, etc.
I love all of the DA games so far (yes, even the second one) but there’s no way this one isn’t a mess upon arrival. The talent they’ve lost alone spells this out.
@get2sammyb I spent the morning playing Super Stardust Portable, having a blast. I’m glad they’re adding trophies to random games that people might not play much otherwise. These are fun games that people put a lot into creating. I’m glad they’re having their day, again.
@gbanas92 Thanks for the reply! The price tag on this one is a little high for me, so I’ll wait for a decent (~$15) sale down the road. My backlog is thanking me. 😹👍
If it were $15 I wouldn’t even ask, but at $30 I need to know if it’s a four hour meditative experience or a twelve hour one. I miss when indie games were so much more affordable, I used to take so many more chances! 😹
@Americansamurai1 Yeah, I’ll just buy it again if need be. I absolutely loved Reverie. I reached out to the developers on Twitter and they were very friendly and engaging. Thanks for the heads up on Trigger Witch, I didn’t realize that was a Rainbite game. It’s on sale for $5.99 so that was an instant buy.
I’m slightly disabled in my right hand so I don’t believe I’d be able to play Elden Ring, which has basically no accessibility options. This bums me out to no end, as the world building looks second to none.
I almost purchased the digital version as it’s on sale but after looking into the experiences of people who have disabilities similar to or worse than mine, I went with TLOU Pt1. That’s a heck of a consolation prize!
I subbed to this for a few months to get caught up on the new Trek series, but canceled it because there were ads before each episode despite my paying extra for the ad-free version.
At the beginning of one episode there was a political ad telling me to vote for Prop XYZ. The next episode started with an ad telling me why I shouldn’t vote for Prop XYZ. I just can’t pay extra to be subjected to political propaganda.
Pricing/release date on this one? It’s directed by Ben Esposito, who did Donut County. So automatically I’m on board. I love when people do dramatically different things, it shows range.
I’d rather they take this approach and move forward vs doing a No Man’s Sky, spending the next 35 years providing the best free content in gaming for absolutely free, clearly out of a sense of guilt that should have been assuaged fifteen free updates ago. They can make it up to us with the superior-in-every-way sequel.
So recently the review for Brewmaster hit this site. I loved the review and bought the game. Later that same day I noticed that there was a reward for buying that game in the new program, but I hadn’t activated it first so I missed out. I felt so ripped off.
It’s a good idea in theory but I honestly only care about the occasional free PSN credits.
I hope this isn’t timed as I don’t own the game yet. I’ve been waiting for a decent sale but Sony has a few PS5 launch window games they just won’t do big discounts on. I wouldn’t blame them if the physical copies weren’t available so cheaply here and there.
Smart of the devs to put the new version on sale rather than deal with Sony in regard to creating an upgrade path. I own it on PS4 and of course haven’t played it yet. But for $3 I’ll bite. If I do chose I could plat the game twice now.
@GorosBat By the time you’ve finished you might feel differently. It’s an ocean wide but as deep as a puddle. I still really enjoyed it but it felt like a project that ran out of money once the systems were all in place.
I saw OP post this on Reddit yesterday and was wondering how long it would take to pop up on video game sites 😹 The board is nice enough but it’s the packaging that really sets it apart!
If you want a short game to chill out with, possibly as a palate cleanser between larger games, I highly recommend A Short Hike. You walk around and up a mountain, helping people along the way. They're all cute animals, and you can glide over long distances down the mountain. It's all very zen, and it's an easy platinum.
@gbanas92 At launch there was no viewable list! Some trophies would pop but many would not, and the ones that did couldn’t be viewed. There was a patch a day or two ago so if you haven’t had issues, that’ll be at least one of the fixes included
Have they fixed the trophy list? That’s all I’ve been waiting on. I saw a patch roll in a day or two ago but there aren’t patch notes on the PS5 for reasons only known to Sony.
@C9906753 I’m glad they don’t auto pop as I really can’t wait to earn them all over again. That said it’s kiiiind of a bummer the list is messed up right now. I’ll wait to play until it’s fixed.
@themightyant I agree completely. That said, any excuse to play this game again and get the trophies again is just fine by me. Plus who doesn’t like some ray tracing?
In all seriousness I’ll happily grab this for $4 or less somewhere down the line. It looks interesting, but you must be at least this tall (this affordable) to ride the backlog ride.
@KidBoruto Ooooh yeah, I did preorder the new Horizon! I put maybe twelve hours into it and fell off of it. It wasn’t bad at all, but it felt too much like the first one and open-worlditis was already kicking in. I know most people like all the new mechanics but I just felt like I was playing a game of checking things off lists. So many different lists. I’ll go back in one of these days, I think I just wasn’t in the mood for something so massive at the time.
@KidBoruto Oh cool! I didn’t realize it was available for preorder. I love when they do a 10% off sale for Plus members but, ah well. This is the first game I’ve preordered a game in quite a long time, I think since GoW and Spider-Man!
The controls look tight which is a must for a game like this. Also, attacks look like they have just the right amount of weight to them. Too many 2d games have attacks that just pass through enemies.
@get2sammyb It was! Of all the games I did QA for at Vivendi, the PS3 port of F.E.A.R. was my favorite. Unfortunately I got stuck doing non-English playthroughs, so while I’ve played the story through literally hundreds of times, I’ve never once done it in a language I understood. 😹😹😹
I spent years working with the PS3 dev kits. I was one of a few people that helped get them set up at Vivendi as not many people there knew anything about Linux.
I also spent a lot of time with PSP dev kits but not Vita!
The random game review dude was “assigning” random games from the new Plus tiers to anyone that asked. So, I asked. I got this pile of crap. I went as far as to download it onto my system but after seeing the metacritic score and watching the trailer I just deleted it. I couldn’t stand the thought of wasting my time with this garbage and of course popping one or two bronze trophies in the process, leaving a permanent reminder.
This is amazing for me. I’ve been a gamer since the early 80’s and since then I’ve had some injuries that affect how long I can play games that are more physically demanding.
Years ago I bought Dead Cells and absolutely loved it, but after an hour my wrists were hurting badly. They hurt for days afterward and I sadly deleted the game at that point. Today I was able to download it again. I’m so thankful that I can now play this masterpiece.
I had high hopes but the more the trailers started showing of the actual gameplay, the more parts of it reminded me a bit of Orc Slayer, that easy platinum game where you just bow-and-arrow a ton of generic orcs to death until the platinum pops. That was not an attractive game, and not one you’d want a modern AAA game to be compared to.
The console has been out for over a year now—anyone that truly wanted one could have gotten one by now. All you have to do it follow a couple of stock update Twitter feeds to get a head’s up, then show up when they go live. I did that a year ago and got one within a week and a half.
That said it’s been a ROUGH period for many people financially, so for anyone holding off for financial reasons who plans on getting a PS5 when things settle, things like this suck. People shouldn’t be punished because they’re waiting until it makes financial sense to plonk down half a grand on a console that doesn’t have a ton of exclusives that can’t be easily played in a PS4 Pro.

@ShogunRok Nice! Thanks for the reply. I’ll likely check this game out once it’s on sale for under $20.
Re: Mini Review: DC's Justice League: Cosmic Chaos (PS5) - All-Ages Brawler Is Surprisingly Good Fun
@ShogunRok This looks kind of like a DC version of Cat Quest. How similar are the two? I was a huge fan of both Cat Quest games.

Looks right up my alley. I was waiting for reviews but I might order it now. May I ask how long the game is?
Re: Poll: What Review Scores Would You Give Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden?
I’m going to wait the six or so months it’ll take Atlas to release the PS5 versions, since there will likely be no upgrade path.
