Ubisoft is letting everyone play Assassin's Creed Odyssey for free this weekend. The free trial is available to download right now on PlayStation 4, but you won't actually be able to play it until the 19th March. It'll come to an end on the 22nd March, so you've got a couple of days to get stuck in. However, it's worth noting that the event page on PS4 says that you need to be a PlayStation Plus member to gain access.
Even if you already own the game, playing this weekend will unlock a special Ezio armour set as a Ubisoft Club reward.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a gigantic open world game -- and one that we highly recommend. With enjoyable combat, exploration, and some great role-playing mechanics, we reckon it's right up there with the best open world titles of this generation. We dare say that it's a perfect fit for those looking to stay at home because of the ongoing coronavirus situation.
Having said all that, Odyssey is bloody huge in terms of file size, weighing in at around 100GB. With that in mind, it'd be best to pre-load the free trial now, before the weekend begins.
Oh, and any progress that you make during the free trial will carry over to the full game, should you decide to buy it. Nice.

Love this game but it's one that takes months to complete!
In fact, I still haven't completed it and I started in early October.
Ah, October. Before the GE, before Christmas. Remember Christmas everyone?! Well, give it time and this will be the next thing to be cancelled.
@Col_McCafferty Jesus, this was supposed to be a positive article.
@ShogunRok Sorry.
😷
PS5 news tomorrow though, that will be good.
@Col_McCafferty I started AC origins in December 2018 and I finished it (DLCs including) in the end of June 2019! And they say Odyssey is even bigger. I think it'll probably take me at least a year when I finally get to it.
@Stevenfins Yes, it will but then again if we're all going to have stay at home soon maybe it won't take you as long.
😉
@ShogunRok do AC games usually do free trials? Just seems a odd choice for a free trial, its been out for a good while and its humongous. Actually now that i think about it a game that u cant beat in a weekend is probably good choice for a free trial weekend.
Such a great game, 150 hours or so to platinum for me.
I do miss Kassandra...
@ellsworth004 Not necessarily Assassin's Creed, but Ubisoft loves doing these free trials for its games.
You're right though, Odyssey is a great choice for a free weekend. People will try it, maybe like it, then realise just how gigantic the game is. You can get it pretty cheap now so I imagine this will actually move a decent number of copies.
can you complete* the game during the free trial?
I really hope this game will be updated for ps5, I just need 60 fps, don't care about resolutions, 1080p is enough. I've been playing division 2 on pc and man, 60 fps really make the game better. I'm downloading the trials this night, I hope it's done by tomorrow.
I spent 200+ hours in this game. Lightweights.
I've done everything including the DLC and got the Platinum but i still go back now and then to just explore, take in the sights and take photos so setting side an afternoon this weekend for more Odyssey is fine by me. I know some people take issue with the size of the open world and i understand that but for me its the size what makes exploring so fun, it really makes me feel like i'm in this time period and location and i feel if it was like half the size my immersion would break.
@mini_piekarnik better get some coffee or redbull
@WallyWest i dont think every game should be as big as odyssey, but when done right i agree the bigger world makes it all the better.
I really love this game. It’s actually bad because I’m addicted. Ubisoft hit out of the park with this one. Only the second Creed game I’ve played.
@mini_piekarnik Hahahahahaha.
Sorry.
😉
No chance my friend. 170+ hours in and still quite a bit to do and neither have I touched either of the DLCs yet.
But don't let this put you off, give it a go if you're looking for a game that is almost pure escapism. Whether you're playing as either Kassandra or Alexios, your character is practically a demigod and no mere virus can stop them.
A sword and shield combo? Maybe, that's until you give them the old Spartan kick!
Try it, it might be exactly what you're looking for in these troubling and uncertain times.
@ShogunRok I was on the fence of buying it a couple times but when I watched a gameplay vid it looked incredibly generic ubisoft open world.. I gues I'll try the free trial and see for myself
If anyone has figured out how to preload the full version, let me know! When I go to the PS store, I see Buy Full Version for $60 or Download Demo, neither of which is what I was expecting. I am DLing demo now to see if that’s what the preload is. Any advice, let me know!
@ellsworth004 Just Cause 4 would be the definition of how a game can be too big.
I've literally played this game for 15 minutes during the free trial and it's absolutely awful..
So you start with a cutscene of this guy absolutely demolishing his enemies, and then you take control of him and all he can do is this one painfully slow stab animation? Where was all the awesome fighting he was JUST doing in the cutscene? Hate it when games do that.
@ShogunRok I am playing the free trial and having a lot of fun, so I am wondering what is included in the “gold” edition: do I get all the dlcs? Are more dlcs coming out in the future?
@Feena Nah, the DLC is finished. And I believe the Gold Edition comes with the season pass, so you get everything.
Quick plug for the season pass review I wrote: https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/09/feature_assassins_creed_odyssey_season_pass_review_-_is_it_worth_buying
Hopefully that helps!
@ShogunRok Thank you very much, it was very helpful
