Re: Ubisoft's XDefiant Fails PlayStation, Xbox Certification

@XenonKnight I don’t know, I’m not in contact with anyone that works there anymore. Honestly I didn’t love most of the people there, especially the management. It was an absolute meat grinder, by far the worst of all the companies I’d worked for. The only positive thing to come out of it was that I got to change how you played a Nirvana song in the Guitar Hero they had me working on. It was one of the few times they actually listened to me. I brought in my guitar and showed them how to play it on a guitar, and how the buttons in the game could be changed to more closely match actually playing it. In the next build, the song had been changed based on my recommendations. 😹

Re: Ubisoft's XDefiant Fails PlayStation, Xbox Certification

@XenonKnight I don’t, no. I haven’t since 2008! I was doing QA and the crunches were killing me.

For example: at Activision they had us on the 666 shift. Six am to six pm, six days a week. And of course I’d hit rush hour LA traffic the entire way there and back, so I’d be gone for at least sixteen hours a day.

At Vivendi I’d sometimes work three weeks in a row without a single day off. These were twelve to sixteen hour days, mind. And they were near LAX so the traffic was even worse.

At Nexon we’d occasionally (once a month or so) pull all-nighters, working for almost 24 hours straight. I just couldn’t do that to my body anymore.

Re: Ubisoft's XDefiant Fails PlayStation, Xbox Certification

When I worked at Vivendi they nicknamed me “the showstopper” because I consistently found bugs that would prevent games from going gold, on gold master candidate builds. It got to the point where they made me to hold off on submitting bugs, choosing to see if Sony caught it. If not, I’d submit the bug which would be fixed (hopefully) in a day one patch. This behavior should shock absolutely no one.

Re: Work Has Already Begun on DLC for Indie RPG Sea of Stars

@DKShadow I’m about ten hours in, playing for the enjoyment without an eye on the trophies, but I will end up getting the plat once I’ve completed the story. How annoying is it to go back for all of the collectibles and whatnot? Is there anything I should keep an eye out for that’ll make my life easier later? Congrats on the plat!

Re: Sony to Acquire Audio Tech and Headphone Specialist Audeze

glassmusic

@TheCollector316 Audeze is huge in the pro audio market. Their headphones are used by some of the top producers in the world. This acquisition genuinely scares me as I’m worried the quality might dip, as Sony might push them in a more consumer-focused direction a la Blue Microphones.

Re: Acclaimed Indie Adventure Kentucky Route Zero Comes to PS5 Next Week

glassmusic

It’s a free upgrade from the PS4 version. They replied to my question on the YT vid.

For those saying they fell off the game, I did too! For months. Then one day I picked it up again and it clicked that time. I got the platinum and played it through again as I enjoyed it that much. Give it another shot, maybe it’ll grab you this time.

I can’t wait to play it again lasted this month!

Re: Waka Waka! Pac-Man Chows Down with Fall Guys Crossover Costumes

@Almost_Ghostly I decided to look at SteamCharts and uh, it looks like I’m correct. There was a bump when the new season came out, as you’d expect, but numbers are down by just about every metric. 30 days, 90 days, etc.

Epic has killed this game. I saw someone on Reddit nail it yesterday— this game feels less finished now than it did at launch. They had a chance with this season to turn things around but that’s not what happened. As someone who’s been playing the game since launch (missing seasons three and four, unfortunately), I’ve seen most of the ups and downs. I was part of all the playtesting back when they bothered with such a thing. I’ve seen streamers move on to other games, as well as many of my friends. It’s a bummer as it was one of my favorite games.

Re: Stranded Deep PS4 Update Inadvertently Causes Platinum Trophy Domino Effect

glassmusic

Kudos to those who snag the full stack through this exploit. It dilutes the value of these digital trinkets, which started out as just a bit of good fun. Sadly, some now view them as mandatory for a good gaming experience. I've been there myself, and it nearly spoiled my love for games.

Trophy hunting can be satisfying, but if it causes you to skip out on fantastic games over a worry about your completion rate on psnprofiles, that's truly unfortunate. I see people skipping games like Gone Home because it doesn’t have a platinum.

Then again I feel dirty telling anyone how to enjoy their games, or that they’re doing it wrong.

Re: Like Fortnite, Price of Fall Guys' Show-Bucks Set to Increase Because Inflation

@Deoxyr1bose Their most recent season was kind of the make or break moment. The new mini-fame passes are even more grindy than it already had been, and the new levels felt like they’d been created in ten minutes. I played for an hour and a half the day it launched, saw that I’d only done about half my dailies, and quit out. I haven’t been back. I’ve been playing since the launch, but it’s just not fun anymore.

Re: Over Half of Season Dev Scavengers Studio Laid Off

glassmusic

@ATaco Season is $30. It has a 76 on MetaCritic with a 6.6 user score. It’s a short (~6.5 hour) game known for a good story and jaaaaanky controls.

Gone Home is an masterpiece of storytelling, and is $15 every day. It’s been on sale as low as $3.74. The cheapest Season has been is $21.

At $30 Season isn’t competing with other story-driven indie games, it’s competing with AAA games that are on sale. Games with dozens or hundreds of hours of gameplay and brand recognition.

Don’t blame consumers for not wanting to buy something they didn’t see the value of. Blame the decision makers who thought $30 was a fair price for a small game you can finish in a single sitting.

Re: Over Half of Season Dev Scavengers Studio Laid Off

glassmusic

There’s been a growing trend of smaller indie games being $30 at launch without many (or any) sales following. For people like me that’s too much for such a short experience.

At that price point they’re competing with AAA games which are on sale.

Maybe a few more failures like this will wake up some indie devs in regard to how they should be pricing their games. It’s a shame for those affected as I’m sure none of them chose that price point and yet are being affected by it.

Re: Alan Wake's PS5 Sequel May Be Much Closer Than You Think

glassmusic

I just played through Control again, this time the PS5 version. It’s honestly one of my favorite games of the past few years, largely because of the lore. I still haven’t gotten around to Alan Wake but I really do need to. There are parts of Control and of course the AWE DLC that’ll make more sense to me once I’ve played Alan Wake.

Re: Rumour: Sony's Allegedly Cut PSVR2 Production Plan by 20% in 2023

glassmusic

I was a day one PSVR owner. From day one I had issues with tracking which I just couldn’t fix. The drift was insane. Within five or ten minutes I’d be facing out my window instead of toward my television. I was having to reset it every minute or two, which is frustrating when you’re playing Thumper or something. I tried everything. Closer, farther, brighter, dimmer. Eventually I stopped worrying about it and sold it on. I kept buying the occasional PSVR game as I figured once PSVR2 was out, I’d hop back on board.

Then they announced there was no backward compatibility. Some games would be upgraded and some wouldn’t, and some were paid and some were, well, most were paid. It killed my enthusiasm for the product, especially after how well they handled BC with the PS5.

I just don’t have any interest in paying out the nose for tech that won’t be supported in a few years, while sitting on hundreds of dollar’s worth of games I can’t play.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy's PS5 Platinum Is a Pain in the Ass

I’ve even locked out of several legendary chests because my gear inventory was full when opening them. The chests still appear on my map, but when I visit them they are open, inaccessible, and still glowing when I cast Revelio. I’m 99% sure this is going to mean I’ll need an entire second playthrough.
