A quarter of the entire world is in lockdown, as coronavirus continues its unwelcome spread across the globe. It’s a frightening time, but back when Marvel’s Spider-Man released in 2018, the idea of a deadly virus was all largely make-believe. That’s what makes this billboard discovered in the release’s fictional New York City all the more eerie, as it contains the kind of public health information we’re all used to hearing by now.
“Stay safe,” the poster states, as shared by Alekshy on Reddit. “Stay home.” It goes on to stress that you must “avoid contact with others” and that “symptoms may not be evident”. There’s no mention of washing your hands, but hey, that’s just good personal hygiene – pandemic or not!

That’s nuts...but very sound advice. If you don’t have to go out, don’t.
Akira's manga had something similar too:

Yeah the entertainment sector has a thing for predicting events.
The simpsons ones had an episode about a virus that originated in asia called corona virus in 1993.
Oh no, now we'll have youtube videos on game conspiracies like the all seeing eye symbols in CoD (I'm wearing a shirt of that right now, it never had the same attributes many years ago that people automatically think of today) and people talking about illuminati. However, this one is obviously less ethereal and more wide spread/publicised. There is literally nothing suspicious about it. It was never "make-believe", just a matter of time. Scientists warned us and there were several documentaries on "what if" scenarios of a pandemic. Surely it was more than the few that were expecting something like this?
@jdv95 No the 1993 episode talked about a fictional virus called the Osaka flu. Images on social media have been edited to make it look like the corona virus instead.
You should play The Division... that sh*t's all over the place.
@Abeedo my bad.
Damn now i look like a fool.
@get2sammyb Hey Sammy, you think it's possible the pandemic goes on long enough and kills enough people they delay TLOU2 until after it's over, maybe September or October?
May 29th we may still be under lock down. Would be good for marketing, but may be a bad look if there's 1mil deceased.
As for Spiderman - Swine flu, SARS, Avian flu, Ebola, West Nile virus, we have one of these every few years, this 1 is just grew into a world wide pandemic. Also the end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
I was in the shell base in Aberdeen yesterday dropping stuff off but the car park was totally empty and there were rabbits and a deer just loitering around I was getting Last of Us /Days Gone vibes, thankfully no clickers or freakers though!
Wasn’t this a plot point in the game? Doc Oc had released a virus?
I always think of the dollar flu from The Division. The intro news bulletins is basically the news now.
@rjejr Yeah, I was wondering about that too.
Cordyceps is not like Coronavirus in that it’s, well ... a fictional outbreak first of all, and it causes zombie-like infected — but games with pandemic related apocalypse settings may seem to come across as insensitive if the world and the global economy and death rates are still growing at the time of release. The problem is that in the fall, it may be no different, so when could it come out and not seem awkward. Naughty Dog has already said the game is not necessarily always “fun” and looks pretty grim. I don’t know if that makes it better or worse to be released during a global pandemic. When people are actually dying by the thousands and society is partitioning itself, is it okay to make such a setting seem fun? I don’t know the answer.
Would Call of Duty release a game if we were actually in the middle of a world war? Actually, yes - they probably would, now that I think of it.
@Th3solution Honestly, with all the issues it causes, I wouldn’t have the poor developers suffer extra because its “insensitive.” The worlds needs to move on, and I don’t see why it’s an issue. Art isn’t always meant to be comfortable, and if a few people are offended because of a game about a zombie outbreak because of Coronavirus, over the effects of the lives on the developers not releasing their work, I think that’s a personal problem to be worked through, not one to be put on Naughty Dog. The people aren’t even in overall objection, just timed objection, and that’s kind messed up, telling them to put their lives on hold because of that. Enough lives are on hold that we don’t need to add to it.
@Th3solution "Would Call of Duty release a game if we were actually in the middle of a world war? Actually, yes - they probably would, now that I think of it."
Honestly that would be my take on CoD as well. War is war. There is ALWAYS a war going on somewhere.
This pandemic is nuts though. I almost lost my mind going out grocery shopping yesterday. Empty shelves.Few people. People wearing masks and gloves. The cashiers even put up big plastic walls to separate them form the customers like banks do. I was in a rough way all day.
Today I wake up, the sun is shining, I know I don't have to leave the house for another week, I'm going much better.
As for this slow march virus, like the OJ Bronco chase, all I can think is I'd almost rather be facing the zombie apocalypse - get out the chain saws and shotguns, beef up the lawn mower engines, nail guns, whatever it take to go out in vicious massacre style. An enemy we can face. The only face this enemy has is patients stopping breathing in hospitals. Not sure that's the best time to be releasing a pandemic game. They should switch TLoU2 and Ghosts, Ghosts seems harmless enough, even if he is a "ghost". I know it's only a month but perhaps, perhaps, things are starting to get back to normal by the end of June. I can only hope, since I can't pray seeing as how I'm an atheist. Even still.
@jdv95 they also had the 9/11 prediction on the simpsons...
let's not advocate for a delay with games with a virus theme.
does not help us any further.
besides i don't think people will take offence to it since movies and series on netflix about outbreaks and what not are more popular than ever now. it would be hypocritial for people to be offended at TLOU for releasing during these times while at the same time watching pandemic themed movies at their hearts content.
delays should happen for people's safety and health, not to prevent some people being offended.
also if people act offended, don't believe them. most likely those people will be non PS owners that can't play the game and are using the virus as an excuse to bash the game.
i mean so far no one is bashing resi 3 while it's only days away from releasing. and while it's a more "lighthearted" game compared to TLOU it is still a game about a virus outbreak. most likely because people don't take offence to it and no one needs an excuse to bash on the game since it's multiplat.
take plaque inc for example. a game where you infect cities on purpose with all kinds of viruses etc. it got a big increase of players when the corona outbreak begun making headlines. however no outrage.
it even got an update recently where players can now get rid of the corona virus in the game because of the player influx. it's more popular than ever.
@Jaz007 @jdv95 I’m not advocating for a delay, but I am thinking about another example, which was Motorstorm Apocalypse back in 2011. As you know the earthquakes and tsunami that occurred right before the original release completely ruined that game’s release and, from what I understand, killed it and really led to the demise of Evolution Studios. The game mirrored real life events too close and they erred on the side of caution with the roll out.
Sony chose to delay the game’s release in several markets and I think the game just never really recovered.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe also delayed the game's release in the UK, stating in relation to the disaster in Japan, "We are very conscious of the parallels between these events and the underlying theme in MotorStorm and are doing everything we can to be as sensitive as possible to the situation."
It’s a different situation, to be sure, but similar.
Honestly I don’t think Sony will delay TLoU2, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they did. I’m not advocating either way. To me, I can see both sides.
@Th3solution i don't think sony will delay the game either.
it comes out in roughly 2 months,if a delay was in the cards sony would have told so already.
also the pre order page at the PS store is still up with no changes.
neil druckman's twitter has no sign of a possible either.
I hate to sound like this but after this crap. People need to be.....less offended and more accepting of things again. After 9/11 we healed with music and comedy. I don't know if today's social structure would accept such a way to heal it would be offensive of the artist who is trying to help start the healing.
@jdv95 Well not really. The episode doesn't use the term "coronavirus" at all. You've probably seen recent photoshopped pictures. Even if it had, coronavirus is just a type of virus that we discovered in the 60s - this particular one is Covid-19. And in that episode of The Simpsons it's from Japan and not China (it's called Osaka flu in the episode).
@Matroska i saw i was wrong yeserday.
And yes i fell for the fake media Posts.
