This was never going to be a great game, but sometimes a game is more than the sum of its parts and a mediocre game can be elevated to good. Or, at least enjoyable. I was hoping this title was going to be one of those. I’m not surprised it isn’t—those games are rare—but I’m a little let down. Ah well.
There are certain games I’m going to wait on the PS5 version for. This is one of them. I’ll end up getting the PS5 version anyway, it’s doesn’t make sense to double dip so quickly.
My only concern--how easy will it be to set this up in a living room that also has a PS4? I'm guessing I'd have to have two controllers--one for each--otherwise I'd have to repair the controller each time I wanted to use the other device?
@NoxAeturnus It's not something I want in each game I play. After this game I'll likely play a handful of indie games from beginning to end as a palate cleanser.
When I describe the million sidequests in Origins as zen, I mean that it's fun to fire up the game before work and play for forty five minutes, hammering out a couple of side quests. It's mindless and enjoyable. I do wish the combat were better, though.
@Kienda Let me know how you like it! The story so far if far better than I would have expected, and obviously the gameplay is a ton of fun. Sometimes I just wander around the world, picking up fetch quests or discovering new locations just for fun. Open world burnout is a real possibility so I'm spacing out my sessions.
When I can get the complete version of this game for $30 I'll pick it up.
Sometimes you just want to zone out and check off some boxes in a generic open world! I'm playing AC:Origins right now, and I've locked myself into a groove I haven't felt since H:ZD. There's a zen to systematically clearing a map. It's not something I'd want to do with 100% of my gaming life but it's a fun distraction here and there.
I need a new DS4 as my left analog stick is a bit loose. If they sell this one on its own I'll try to snag one!
The system itself though? Seems weird to release a new PS4 base model this close to the PS5 reveal, but hey, they're still selling PS4's like crazy so good on em!
Edith Finch is such an incredible game, and Overcooked can be a lot of fun if you have people to play it with, but they’re low value games. Not only is their retail low, they’re on sale all the time. I’m fairly sure I picked up Overcooked for $4 or something, not that long ago.
I'm not a fan of the top-down look but otherwise this looks interesting! It's definitely on my radar now. Depending on the price at launch and reviews, this might be a week one buy.
Edit: It's got great reviews on Steam and is going for $15 USD there, so I'd guess $15 to $20 USD here on PS4. I'll never understand why devs often charge more than on PC/mobile but it's the world we live in.
What Remains of Edith Finch is one of the best games I’ve ever played.
I already own both of these games but to anyone who hasn’t played Edith Finch yet, you’re in for a treat. I highly suggest you play The Unfinished Swan first.
For me, this is an incredibly disappointing month. I hope Plus starts to offer more in the future as I don’t play online, so the free games and discounts are the only reason for keeping the service. The discounts have been abysmal lately, leaving the free games as the only real incentive.
It's cool, but waaaay too expensive. Minor gripe, I don't like that the buttons don't have any kind of identifier. I get that there are a multitude of games, all with different button configs, but even numbering or letting them would go a long way toward accessibility. My non-gamer friends would still love to play on something like this, but I can see the blank buttons as being a barrier of entry for them.
This is what I've been waiting for. When I can snag this edition for like $24, that's the day I'll take the plunge. It looks like a very interesting game but I'm unsure if I'm going to play it and become fully immersed, barely coming up for air, or if I'm going to get bored within six hours and never play it again. I could honestly see it going either way.
I have my PS4 hooked up to my tele and nothing else, so I’ve got no plan B if my PS4 stops working. I haven’t been able to launch anything all night, so I ended up just watching a Blu Ray, the one thing I could control.
For what it’s worth this seems to be affecting non-primary PS4’s.
@darkswabber Ouch! For me it was getting stuck in the level geometry and having to reset, losing chunks of progress each time. Between that and the sincerely abysmal framerate... People often complain about FR issues in games, then I play the game and don’t think it’s half as bad as what people were saying. The opposite was true in this case.
Hopefully they fix the bugs! I'll definitely be on the lookout for a sale on this. If the game is good enough, I'm willing to wade through some issues.
I was enjoying Ether One but the poor frame rate and bugs made it too frustrating to deal with. I keep telling myself I'll go back one of these days. Maybe today's the day!
Happy Anniversary fellas. Here's to my favorite PlayStation news site!
And hey, I don't just get news here. I actually trust the reviews, and always head over to see if you guys have reviewed that weird PSN game that's 90% off on a Flash Sale, to see if it's even worth $2.49. Add to that, the people who comment here, especially the regulars, are helpful and entertaining in their own right. Hopefully I add to that more than I detract! Haha
I absolutely love flower! I'll never delete this game off my hard drive.
Fun fact: I actually won a Sony blog contest where you had two write something brief about how the game makes you feel, or something along those lines. I received a $20 PSN card and most importantly, a gorgeous poster signed by the devs! I'll treasure that poster forever (well, for forty more years if the world is kind).
This is definitely my most anticipated game of 2019! I say that largely because the other games I’m looking forward to will possibly / likely be bumped to 2020.
I grabbed The First Tree. It pains me to see it at such a discount so close to launch, I hope the game is performing okay for the devs. I think that $9.99 for an indie title is very reasonable. Just so happens I've been kind of broke lately :/
@Jimmy_G_Buckets I put a few hours in recently and was incredibly overwhelmed, all around. I think I'm still in the tutorial quests, in all fairness. I both hate tutorial quests, and am afraid of the game without the hand holding. Haha.
@Nerdfather1 I really enjoyed my time with it! I loved not only the puzzles but the art direction as well. I will admit to using a guide for some of the puzzles, especially the HUGE ones where completion often means memorizing thirty something steps, much of which is backtracking/moving back and forth in order to set the board up properly. Overall, I'd give the game a 8/10!
I love seeing how many of you are hitting up your backlogs! I’m doing the same, blasting through Batman Season 2 while popping in and out of Hitman Go!
@Knuckles-Fajita One of their biggest successes as a company was the Ratchet PS4 game. I don’t think they’re going to abandon the series. Most companies their size have two projects going. One is the main focus, the other is a team getting started on whatever’s next. Don’t be surprised if one team is already well into working on a Ratchet game.

Donut County also has an incredibly fun, charming soundtrack. I listen to it all the time!
Re: The Church in the Darkness Finally Comes to PS4 Next Month
I’m interested, but it’s dependent on the price tag.

I was more excited by the Avengers game before we saw some actual footage a while back. It just looks so... by the numbers?
Re: PS Plus July 2019 PS4 Games Changed After Fan Backlash
Great, they swapped a game I’ve actually wanted to try for a game I just recently purchased in a sale. Thanks Sony, you rock.
Re: PS Plus Specials Sale Gives Members Plenty of Discounts on US PlayStation Store
I actually grabbed Omega Strike. It looks like fun and for less than $4 USD, it's not much of a risk.

Great resource you've made here!
Minor gripe, some currencies are listed in GBP and Euros, while others are between Euros and USD.

Re: The PS Vita Is Dead, Long Live Playdate
@get2sammyb I wouldn't pay more than $89 for something like this. It'll be fun for a few months and then end up in a junk drawer or something.

75 Games
35 Platinums
90 Hours playing Spider-Man

2687 Hours total (240/365 days)
See, I don't think that's correct. That means that the average for each day that I played was over 11 hours. There's no way.
