Re: The Church in the Darkness - Cult Simulator Devoid of Depth

This was never going to be a great game, but sometimes a game is more than the sum of its parts and a mediocre game can be elevated to good. Or, at least enjoyable. I was hoping this title was going to be one of those. I’m not surprised it isn’t—those games are rare—but I’m a little let down. Ah well.

Thanks for the insightful review!

Re: RAGE 2 - Some of the Best Shooting This Gen Doesn't Get the Attention It Deserves

@NoxAeturnus It's not something I want in each game I play. After this game I'll likely play a handful of indie games from beginning to end as a palate cleanser.

When I describe the million sidequests in Origins as zen, I mean that it's fun to fire up the game before work and play for forty five minutes, hammering out a couple of side quests. It's mindless and enjoyable. I do wish the combat were better, though.

When I can get the complete version of this game for $30 I'll pick it up.

Sometimes you just want to zone out and check off some boxes in a generic open world! I'm playing AC:Origins right now, and I've locked myself into a groove I haven't felt since H:ZD. There's a zen to systematically clearing a map. It's not something I'd want to do with 100% of my gaming life but it's a fun distraction here and there.

Re: Darkwood Brings Top-Down Terror to PS4 on 14th May

glassmusic

I'm not a fan of the top-down look but otherwise this looks interesting! It's definitely on my radar now. Depending on the price at launch and reviews, this might be a week one buy.

Edit: It's got great reviews on Steam and is going for $15 USD there, so I'd guess $15 to $20 USD here on PS4. I'll never understand why devs often charge more than on PC/mobile but it's the world we live in.

What Remains of Edith Finch is one of the best games I’ve ever played.

I already own both of these games but to anyone who hasn’t played Edith Finch yet, you’re in for a treat. I highly suggest you play The Unfinished Swan first.

For me, this is an incredibly disappointing month. I hope Plus starts to offer more in the future as I don’t play online, so the free games and discounts are the only reason for keeping the service. The discounts have been abysmal lately, leaving the free games as the only real incentive.

Re: Capcom Home Arcade Is a Plug and Play Arcade Stick with 16 Built-In Games

It's cool, but waaaay too expensive. Minor gripe, I don't like that the buttons don't have any kind of identifier. I get that there are a multitude of games, all with different button configs, but even numbering or letting them would go a long way toward accessibility. My non-gamer friends would still love to play on something like this, but I can see the blank buttons as being a barrier of entry for them.

Happy Anniversary fellas. Here's to my favorite PlayStation news site!

And hey, I don't just get news here. I actually trust the reviews, and always head over to see if you guys have reviewed that weird PSN game that's 90% off on a Flash Sale, to see if it's even worth $2.49. Add to that, the people who comment here, especially the regulars, are helpful and entertaining in their own right. Hopefully I add to that more than I detract! Haha

Re: Classic PS3 Bloom-'Em-Up flower Comes to PC

I absolutely love flower! I'll never delete this game off my hard drive.

Fun fact: I actually won a Sony blog contest where you had two write something brief about how the game makes you feel, or something along those lines. I received a $20 PSN card and most importantly, a gorgeous poster signed by the devs! I'll treasure that poster forever (well, for forty more years if the world is kind).

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 257

glassmusic

@Nerdfather1 I really enjoyed my time with it! I loved not only the puzzles but the art direction as well. I will admit to using a guide for some of the puzzles, especially the HUGE ones where completion often means memorizing thirty something steps, much of which is backtracking/moving back and forth in order to set the board up properly. Overall, I'd give the game a 8/10!

Re: Spider-Man PS4 Sequel Speculation Begins

@Knuckles-Fajita One of their biggest successes as a company was the Ratchet PS4 game. I don’t think they’re going to abandon the series. Most companies their size have two projects going. One is the main focus, the other is a team getting started on whatever’s next. Don’t be surprised if one team is already well into working on a Ratchet game.
