@Questionable_Duck I try not to make assumptions like that, but I’m also a stick in the mud from the olden days who cares about hard factual numbers. Someone who bought the game on Steam, played for half an hour and then refunded could be counted as a “player” and that happens often!

I saw his comment about this, and it is definitely an interesting one. Man makes games and has more experience with these things than I do, so I’ll take his word.

@Questionable_Duck We don’t know. I’m aware of at least one person in my circle of friends who got a U+ subscription to play it, as it ended up being cheaper for them on Series X.

This is why I dislike subscription services in general, at least for new release games. It makes actual useful stats and numbers either meaningless or unknowable.

@B0udoir I doubt this is in any danger of flopping. We just don’t have digital sales numbers. Plus, at least folks playing this WILL have paid actual money to own/indefinitely rent it, unlike AC Shadows.

@Northern_munkey I throw a bunch of games on it that I intend to buy someday, but not at full price. Same with Nintendo’s eShop and MS’s XBox store.

Nintendo even added a handy “on sale” filter on the Switch 2, which I appreciate.

Well, I guess if they sued MS for pushing all digital with their dominant platform they’d be laughed out of court.

Hopefully they’re still laughed out of court, since Sony sells more physical versions of games than MS does.

@GamingFan4Lyf Very glad to hear it! Three years ago my company let my entire department know we’d be laid off in a couple months, but then ended up moving us all to a different department before it actually happened. I’ve never forgotten that dread of knowing my job was going away.

@cburg Do show me where Sony bought a developer who released their game on XBox originally, then released said game on PS and kept the previous platform’s version from getting the same upgrades their platform did, along with the game’s sequel.

That said, it’s good to see MS going multi platform. As someone who has all three consoles (PS5, Series X, Switch 2) it’s nice to be able to buy MS’s games for my preferred platform but also have the option for others as well.

As I said in a similar article on Pure XBox:

If you release a shoddy product and people call you on said shoddy product, and before releasing said shoddy product you make accusations that anyone saying it looks like a shoddy product is part of a coordinated negativity campaign, and you don’t allow people to review the shoddy product before it reaches the general public…

Well, let’s just say I am shocked, SHOCKED at this turn of events. Shocked.

I saw him at a Marvel panel at a local convention a few weeks ago. Seems like a good guy, but no one asked him any questions about this game, just Daredevil. He had no clue about anything comic-related that wasn’t Daredevil, so him not being a gamer doesn’t surprise me either. Doesn’t need to be.

Man has talent, and him just popping into a booth for four hours to record some massively emotional stuff surprises me even less.

In the opinion of those who enjoyed DS1, it’s the furthest thing from a dealbreaker.

Got it at launch and loved it. This game deserves to move triple these sales numbers.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy You’re right, I should be more positive about a game released in a crappy state when the devs declared that any bad word of mouth was part of a negativity campaign and they were too afraid to let reviewers review the game before release.

I feel so guilty and intolerant. I forgot that just because real people were involved (and not fake people somehow?) I should be more forgiving of a hack job. Sorry about that!

Btw, I did say I was specifically NOT rooting for the bankruptcy. Just that it seems rather inevitable. I doubt this will be another No Man’s Sky or Cyberpunk to rise from the ashes.

Been burned by too many “from the studio (not the PEOPLE) who brought you X!” lately.

Also, Mac IS the correct platform, and I’m not just saying that because I own an M4 Mac!

Now is this the actual PEOPLE who made Myst, or just the STUDIO? Important question these days.

I assume this was a review with a digital copy provided. Any idea if this is a MS-style no-game-on-disc or if it’s actually on the physical copy? I only ask because Atlus went with a key game card for Switch 2 on this one.

Either way, my PS5 disc arrives tomorrow!

If only there was a single player Marathon game (or even a trilogy of games) that could have been adapted into an incredible modern experience, rather than this thing.

On the Concord scale of 0 to 1, 0 being a wild success and 1 being…well, Concord, I see this as being a comfortable 0.85 myself.

@Frmknst I’ve seen videos of the game. I’ve seen the glitches and the bleh. I’ve seen the dev whine that any negative opinions are part of a negativity campaign, and I saw their groveling post-launch apologies acknowledging that it’s basically broken.

This isn’t “no apparent reason.”

It’s almost like all the people shouting, “Port it to Xbox too, you’ll be printing money!” are completely and utterly wrong.
