@LivewireCLS Inagine being so hostile to those people upset about this state of affairs that you make things up in your head to justify blindly supporting Sony’s decisions. Sony doesn’’t care about you except as a money-providing wallet.
“Where else ya gonna go? STEAM?!! GAMEPASS!!?!!”
My backlog exists, spans multiple console platforms and is huge. I’ll be just fine playing my existing PS5 games, and a few other disc based ones that they deign to sell before the end.
Sony has made it clear they no longer want me as a customer after January 2028, and after being all-in for PS1-5, the message has been clearly received and understood. No more digital purchases from Sony for me ever, unless they reverse course.
Nintendo seems to still want my money for physical games (mostly) and they’ll continue to get it for non-Game Key Card releases. At least unless/until they make the same stupid move Sony did.
My friends have been bullying me to get Granblue, so I finally picked this up on disc. If it’s good, I may double dip on Switch 2 since my PS Plus runs out in January or February.
If MS continues releasing disc based games for their next console, I will 100% jump to XBox. Not just for “legacy games” but for new release titles as well.
If they don’t, then both the Series X and my PS5 Pro will be my last MS and Sony consoles. Amusingly, this Xbox is also my FIRST Xbox, but I’m prepared to make it not my last if the need arises.
@RoomWithAMoose I really, really like your outline for option 1. Well thought out, and I’d shift completely to XBox going forward. (Well, except for the cloud stuff anyway) I genuinely can’t believe I feel this way, but at this point I’m firmly in the “Screw Sony” camp.
@Rich33 If you genuinely don’t understand why PC digital gaming is different from console (especially Playstation) digital gaming, then you really should do some looking. The differences are very clear-cut.
@AnVold Before September’s Switch 2 price increase if you can manage it!
@Discol76 I haven’t played PSVR1. I’ve simply acquired games via PS Plus over the years that are completely worthless with PSVR2, and I don’t really feel like owning two multi-hundred dollar peripherals to play them when I already have a metric ton of “flat” games to play that don’t require them.
Especially when I don’t really feel like giving more money to Sony other than nice physical discs. I’m sure it’s an amazing experience, I just have WAY too much of a backlog to really care. Plus I wear glasses, and from what research I’ve done, they don’t play well.
@get2sammyb I’m sure there are, but spending $300 for the privilege when I could just buy $300 worth of disc based games (or just…not buy more games at all) isn’t all that compelling right now.
Especially since the PSVR1 games I somehow acquired over the years via PS Plus can’t be played, and most PSVR games are digital. Which, after Sony’s idiotic recent decision, I won’t buy for PS anymore.
So when we apply these percentages, we see that RE Requiem sold 469k and Pragmata sold 167.5k physical copies if we assume each sold that exact percentage physical. Obviously this isn’t exact in real life, but let’s go with it.
…sorry, how exactly is this showing discs are dead? Thats a combined 636k physical copies.
That is NOT BAD. This isn’t “oh no, discs are dead” that’s “hey, this actually justifies still making physical copies.” Especially when this is a COMBINED NUMBER that includes PC sales (digital only that the article does mention) as well as Switch 2 GKCs that Capcom themselves told us a while back they count as digital sales. So NONE of the Switch 2 sales would count as physical.
It’s fun to actually, you know, carry the math to its conclusion instead of tossing out what seems like a tiny percentage and saying yup, discs be dead. This also doesn’t take into account that both games were damn hard to get physical copies of for a while, which is not the hallmark of an item not in demand.
Forgive me, but shouldn’t an article on this topic be addressing little facts like this?
If there were ZERO changes to the content and designs and it was just a glow-up to get it on PS4/5, I’d be fine with it. But we know that won’t happen.
No one who was involved with Veilguard should be allowed within 500 miles of any possible remasters.
Thank goodness for XBox BC. Can still play the originals there.
@Neuromancer This has been debunked multiple times. Are there game discs that don’t have the game on them? Yes. They are MASSIVELY outnumbered by the plethora of games that have a playable build on-disc.
I beg you, please stop spreading this incorrect info.
@PercyChuggs @Slayer25c Tell me you don’t understand that people can buy gifts for another person and don’t open them the same day without telling me you don’t understand that people can buy gifts for another person and don’t open them the same day.
@get2sammyb Here’s hoping, because it would be really silly to have someone in that country buy this as a gift, only to find that the code expired before the recipient’s birthday or something. DLC is…well, not fantastic for this to happen to, but sure better than the GAME ITSELF.
@Deadhunter Unlikely doesn’t mean impossible. This is GTA, not Dragon Quest after all. Different countries do things differently. I’d imagine the retailers would HAVE to be reimbursed for then-worthless stock, but I can easily imagine someone buying a copy for someone’s birthday or another holiday and not knowing it would expire.
@Deadhunter Imagine, if you will, a store somewhere in Japan that has unsold copies somehow. Imagine that after 170 days, AKA slightly less than six months from now, that someone wishes to purchase said game from this store.
Imagine trying to redeem that code and being told it expired already.
@Atreus97 The wording is relatively unambiguous on the website. It doesn’t differentiate between preorder or non-preorder that I can see, unless someone can point out what I’m missing.
@get2sammyb I’m curious as well. I know some DLC pack in codes in the US have expiration dates on them, and I’ve been burned by them before. Never heard of a code-inna-box game expiring before, though.
