I already have all the games except for the golf sim and the Slime Rancher sequel, so I know I’m supposed to say, “WHAT A GARBAGE MONTH1!1!1!1” but instead I’ll say, “dang, that’s a pretty darn good lineup of games!” because I’ve never tried a modern golf video game and I quite enjoyed Slime Rancher 1!

@lazarus11 I got them direct from Sony over the holidays. I have the original PS5 model, and they were on discount.

I’m still shocked Sony hasn’t done full Pro-compatible plates, a friend of mine would love them.

@SMJ Personally? Nope. I got this Series X as my first Xbox to play all the games I’d missed.

I have zero inclination or desire for another one. Especially now that MS is porting all their games to PS. My investment in MS hardware began and ended with this purchase.

@SMJ A friend of mine I work with has been Team Green since the OG Xbox. He still has each console, and will never get rid of them.

He’s told me that his Series X will be his last XBox. He picked up a Switch 2 and he’s very close to picking up a PS5.

He’s seen everything MS has done over the years and knows more than I do about the history…and he’s sick of MS.

The PS5 definitely has more style. I slapped a set of black plates on mine!

@SMJ Like to? Not really. Competition is good, and the Series X is a solid piece of hardware.

But it seems like MS themselves want to end XBox consoles, regardless of what we want.

@MrPeanutbutterz I do like quick resume, but my god it was garbage on games that required/used an internet connection. “Oh, you were in the middle of something in Forza Horizon 5? TOO BAD, SUCKER!”

I will say that I find the series X more convenient shape-wise as well. Always annoys me that I had to use a little stand to have my PS5 horizontal. But eh, minor quibbles!

Look, I’ve hated MS for years. Genuinely multiple DECADES. Me in my mid-twenties would have whooped in delight if MS had utterly bombed with the XBox like Apple did with the Pippin.

That said, they did good things for the gaming industry. (We won’t talk about them being the first to require pay-to-play-online in the modern gaming era or pushing game-key-discs for almost all their recent releases…those aren’t included in GOOD things…)

I even bought a Series X in 2024, back before the Great Price Gouging began. Mostly for old Xbox exclusives that I’d never played, like Halo and such. Found Forza Horizon 4 and 5 and fell in love with the series. I only fire it up maybe once a month, but I like having it.

All that said…XBox is dying and nearly dead as a hardware platform. They might pump out one last console generation, but that’ll be it and they’ll move to developer-and-service-only afterwards.

I look forward to the Forza, Halo, Gears, Fable and other franchises moving to PS and Switch going forward. But I WILL admit that the Series X is actually a decent piece of hardware. The controllers suck and I HATE smart delivery as a physical media guy, but everything else is good.

Too bad MS hates XBox and is actively trying to make it fail. It was a good run, MS. Sony and Nintendo have it from here. And as a PS5 and Switch 2 owner (along with that Series X) I’m pretty content with that. Mostly.

You know, I’d be tempted…but like Highguard I don’t even want this in my library as a beta.

All the enjoyment in the world for those interested, tho!

I’m sure all checks steamdb 320 of the all time peak count PC gamers and probably forty or fifty console gamers will be devastated by this news.

As one might tell from my chosen pic here, I’m a bit of a fan ever since I was renting the original VHS releases here in the US!

If we treat that last “Saint’s Row” abomination like we rightfully treat Ghostbusters 2016 (that is, it doesn’t exist) then I’d love a proper Saint’s Row prequel.

Sadly, that garbage game has likely make it impossible for another one to be made anytime soon.

That said, maybe MS finally realized that they need to have some folks in charge who, you know, are able to run a gaming company.

Suddenly my PS1-5, Wii U-Switch/3DS/Series X collection doesn’t look too bad. Might actually attack my backlog down the road…

@DadJKP I’m not going that far. I’ll just enjoy the ginormous backlog of games I already have for so many systems if and when the time comes.

This may be my last hardware generation; if Sony keeps taking self-inflicted wounds to the crotch like this one.

It’s kind of amazing that THIS studio being closed is pushing me closer to just saying “Done,” when it comes to Sony and just doing new purchases on my Switch 2. Or going gaming PC though HAHAHA good luck building one of those now, thanks AI bros!

Unless they’re just absorbing it into the Greater Sony Collective(TM) and not axing/firing them, this is a genuinely baffling move.

Of all the studios to get the axe, Bluepoint isn’t even on my top 100 likeliest list.

@SMJ I would immediately make the PS5 the final Sony console I own if there was no physical media option for the PS6.

My backlog among my PS3/4/5, Switch/Switch 2 and even the XBox will keep me going till I die. Zero physical media is where I tap out of console gaming.

Obviously I can speak only for myself, but I’ve been here through the OS PlayStation, the PSP and Vita and even the PSTV along with the 2-5. I’d drop new purchases instantly if this happens.

@Dogbreath Remember that EVERYONE gave “a return to form for BioWare” a high score even though it was a gigantic failure. I wouldn’t be too bothered by it having the same score as any other existing game. The review hivemind was strong with that…release.

Avowed is a game I tried for a short while in gamepass and walked away from. So many better games out there, but I can see why others would enjoy it. I’d never buy it even on discount, myself.

I’m not sure how this is confusing. If the PS6 comes out in the next couple years, it’ll be stupidly expensive. Devs aren’t able to properly harness the PS5 properly as it is, so there’s just no reason for a boost right now.

Look at the amazing ports that have been hitting the Switch 2 lately. That console alone is proof that the PS5’s potential is being squandered.

I’m glad the 6 is (per rumors) delayed. It’s not confusing or odd at all.

I’m sure Marathon in name only will do better than Concord…but let us not forget that Concord was also praised by many outlets including this one. As was Highguard.

Bungie spent what good will I had left for them with Destiny 2. Now I can’t even play the content I originally paid for with my original disc purchase. I don’t trust them with anything anymore.

All I want is a port of the PS2 (or the PS3 collection versions) of 1 and 2. We already have a PS4 version of GoW3.

Change nothing gameplay related, including the mini games.

I’ll happily buy that. Hell, I’ll even PREORDER that.

These games were darn near perfect as they were. Clean up the graphics and that’s all we need.

This will have a higher simultaneous player count than Concord, Highguard (post-24 hours-after-release drop off) and Relooted combined.

@AdamNovice It couldn’t keep it in the first 24 hours, let alone a single week.

Well, at least no one paid for it, unlike Concord. Not up front, anyway. Refunds for whatever battle pass/in game purchases were applicable might be hard to get, and I hope everyone can get their money back.

Very mediocre game. I wouldn’t get too excited for this. I still can’t make myself go back to my series X disc copy, just keep bouncing off the blandness.

@ShogunRok Thanks! I’m looking forward to a full playthru of the PS5 versions of 0-3 in the near future, once I finally get through the Trails series. (On Cold Steel 2 atm, it’s gonna be a while, but RGG gets my money on release day as a general rule!)
