Re: 'It's Totally, Totally Irrelevant': GameStop Boss Unfazed by Sony's Physical Discs Decision

dskatter

@dodgykebaab Lets dissect this, shall we?

>No matter how much people moan and cry about it, game discs are old fashioned and not fit for purpose.

Well, it’s the only medium that Sony can’t take from us if our account gets removed. I don’t call that “old-fashioned.” Delisted games are also a factor. Discs aren’t forever, but they exist outside of account/license expiration. Try buying a copy of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1-2, Transformers Devastation, etc digitally. You can’t.

>Most AAA games can't fit in the 100gig limit now and most indie games are digital only.

Games can come on two discs. The fact that programmers need more space isn’t a compelling one. Also, the existence of digital-only games does not mean physical games must cease to exist.

>People are going out of their way to create a culture of negativity which will only harm the game industry.

If a “culture of negativity” is what fells the game industry, then the game industry was far weaker than anyone thought and a crash would be inevitable either way.

>Going to hurt Sony because you can't have discs anymore?

Yes. By not giving them money for anything digital since their announcement and not buying a PS6. Well spotted!

>Why? Does Valve do discs?

PCs are a different animal altogether. You can back up pc games. You can strip the DRM from them. You have more than one store, like GOG for example. Sony allows none of those things on console.

>Does Xbox?

Well yes, actually. They haven’t announced no more Xbox discs, you see. And if they do, then I’ll be fine with them, too. They’re on the way, but they have the chance to do the funniest thing ever with Helix.

>Does Nintendo?

They still do physical media and that’s the equivalent of a disc. So yes, they do.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk! It’s rather sad that physical folks are quite happy to also purchase digital games (I was and did!) but those who advocate for digital only seem almost gleeful that those who prefer physical media are being shut out. It’s very telling.

Re: Irate PlayStation Fans Want You to Buy Games Anywhere But PS5

dskatter

@TheSingularity …how is it brainless to encourage people to buy it on a non-Sony platform, exactly?

Convenient that you’re leaving that part out.

Also, as you said in a later comment, it is indeed your money and your life. Just like others can choose to NOT give Sony any more money due to this decision. Hope you love your PS6!

Re: Irate PlayStation Fans Want You to Buy Games Anywhere But PS5

dskatter

I am one of those buying Denshattack and any other digital-only games I can on non-PS platforms.

Sony gets ZERO dollars from me for anything but a disc release now. I’ll be playing Denshattack on Switch 2.

That said, folks who only have a PS shouldn’t feel pressured to boycott digital only releases like this, and I’d never shame anyone who bought Denshattack. It’s a great game and the devs shouldn’t be punished for Sony’s idiocy.

@get2sammyb sorry that PS is getting collateral damage on this one, blame Sony’s idiotic decision and lack of response!

Re: Halo's Physical PS5 Disc Won't Play without a Download

dskatter

Maybe they’ll release it for Switch 2 and give us a complete physical release there.

I mean, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and the Oblivion remaster for full on-cart releases. Let’s make it a full three!

Odd how they just can’t figure out how to give us a full game on disc(s) but they can manage it on game cards…

@LordOfTurnips Tell me you don’t know that the PS5 can read 100GB Blu-ray Discs without telling me you don’t know that the PS5 can read 100GB Blu-ray Discs. Oh, and that games can have more than one disc. You know, like Last of Us part 2, FF7 Remake/Rebirth, the Mass Effect trilogy release, etc.

Re: Halo Ready for PS5 Debut, Campaign Evolved Goes Gold

dskatter

No wonder the disc version requires a download if it just went gold. It’s probably another DOOM The Dark Ages game-key-disc scenario where there’s like 40MB of data on the disc.

Not an auspicious start to Halo on PS. Hope it’s good for those who will be playing it!

Re: The Elder Scrolls 6 Heavily Impacted by Xbox Layoffs, Team Morale at Rock Bottom

dskatter

@stefan771 They announced it eight years ago. If they didn’t start development on it till after STARFIELD released then they done fouled up the bed even worse than everyone expected and my sympathy for them is even less than before.

@totheteeth No one would have cared if they took some time away but for the memorial, which is the whole point. Remove that and no one cares at all. Your reaction seems a teensy over the top given that.

Re: Poll: Are You Considering Leaving PlayStation for PC?

dskatter

@Gedrick Same. I have a PS5 Pro, Series X and Switch 2.

I’m good splitting my purchases between the three. Discs for PS5 while they’re here, Switch 2 and Series X for future releases after Sony completes shooting themselves in the crotch in early 2028.

Re: Practically Every Comment on PlayStation's YouTube Is Now About Physical Discs

dskatter

This won’t go away. At all.

Sony can bury their heads in the sand all they want, but they pissed people (like me) off enough to just forswear Sony consoles going forward.

Sony deserves everything they’re getting in these comment sections.

@dragon83 You’re almost completely wrong. Most PS games have the actual game on there. Ubisoft and Microsoft fling these game key discs out there for sure but MOST devs actually put a game on the disc. Please stop spreading this easily disproved misinformation.

Re: Reaction: Sony Needs to Start Speaking to Us Again

dskatter

This entire debacle has proven to me that I can go on without a PlayStation in my life.

It’s been fun, Sony. I’ve been with you since the PS1. But once you stop making new game discs, I’m done with you beyond buying previously released disc games.

Unless Sony backtracks immensely, I hope the PS6 fails and fails hard.
