Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold an ungodly number of copies, and at this point, the only game that can catch it is its direct follow-up, Grand Theft Auto 6.
In Take-Two's latest earnings report, it has a newly revised total of units sold for the open world sandbox; it now sits at "nearly" 230 million units sold, cementing its status as one of the best-selling games of all time (not that it wasn't already).
Released across three generations of hardware, GTA 5 is a beast. It first launched back on PS3 in 2013, and a PS4 version came just over a year later.
Next was a PS5 release in 2022, providing yet more improvements to the experience.
With a single player game bursting with things to do and GTA Online keeping the party going all this time, it's been immensely successful.
We all expect GTA 6 will be another enormous hit for Rockstar; whether it can top GTA 5's incredible numbers is another matter. I reckon it's probably the only game up to the task, though.
Hype for the new instalment is through the roof. The game is still on track for launch this November, but in the meantime, fans have been cooking up some wild theories about when we might start to see more.
Hopefully it won't be a whole lot longer before some new details about the game are shared; feed these poor, starving gamers, Rockstar!
As an aside, Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 85 million units, which is also a super impressive number.
