Code Violet, the poor PS5 dinosaur shooter released last month, was a bad game.
That doesn't mean it can't get a sequel, though, as Teamkill Media has today announced Code UltraViolet. The follow-up is possible because of the "overwhelming success" Code Violet has apparently experienced, and "the incredible support from all of you", the developer said in a social media post.
Code Violet has an overall critic score of 29 on Metacritic, a 2.6 user score on the same site, and a 2.88 player rating on the PS Store from confirmed buyers. Of almost 4,000 ratings, 36% of purchasers on PS5 left a one-star rating.
In our Code Violet PS5 review, we awarded the game a 4/10 rating, and called attention to its technical issues, poor gunplay, and samey locations. "Code Violet is a mess. Crummy combat, tedious exploration, technical problems. The sexy costumes and horny camerawork seem at odds with both Violet as a character and the tone of the writing."
Despite the bad quality of the first game, will you give Code UltraViolet a chance? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm busy that week.
@johncalmc Yeah... reviewing this John.
Looks like rock bottom has a basement...
Well there is a audience i wonder what kind 🤔
A 29 on metacritic yet they consider it a overwhelming success 😑, this game makes Gollum look good.
@Ihatemultiplayers the kind you wouldn't want to use an ultraviolet light on in their bedrooms..
It feels like the developers are just trolling us at this point.
Wow they really quoted Leonardo da Vinci at the beginning of the game, that alone speaks volumes.
All Code Violet did was get attention. It got attention right here from Push Square because they reviewed it, therefore a sequel happening shouldn't be surprising. Bad games can get sequels too if people pay attention.
Assett flip gooner games you make the rocking world go round.
The 11 000 meters deep Mariana Trench called and wants its title of the lowest point on the planet back.
I look forward to seeing how they iterate on the strengths of the first one 🤨
@Frmknst Calling all the Yakuza games awful is a bold strategy, let’s see how that works out.
@Frmknst I believe it does now. Just cause of your comment, I might actually get the game lol
@Frmknst I didn't say Push Square is influencing sales, what I am saying is that media attention is influential. If people didn't read about Code Violet or care about it, a sequel wouldn't be happening.
They're threatening us with a sequel
@Frmknst Bait used to be believable.
It’s like a comedian that isn’t funny, but keeps on telling jokes for whatever reason 👀
They're not looking at the ratings of players and critics. They're just looking at the sales, which seems to have been enough. It has a lot of horn...dedicated fans, and they want to satisfy that fanbase.
Huh...Definitely didn't have that game getting a sequel on my bingo card for the year.
Guess they made enough money from streamers buying it for content to make a sequel.
Shrugs Whoever bought it went in with their eyes open. Clearly the developer shot low (in several senses of the word) but maybe in the future they will aim higher.
It's weird that this game ended as a "commercial success" while more polish and much better games like Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, Puppeteer, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Folklore, Forbidden Siren, Medievil, or Heavenly Sword got ignored and ended as a flop. No wonder Sony didn't bother to do in-house AA anymore and let 3rd party do the job.
More excited for GGManlives's inevitable video on it
If it has over 4000 reviews on PS5 and very few people leave reviews that suggests it surprisingly sold ok for what is presumably a small budget game. Especially one that cost £40!
Whether lightning strikes twice and consumers bite again... who knows.
April fool’s joke came to early
@johncalmc " insert standing ovation gif"
Very well played🤣🤣
The fact people(?) on Twitter, X (or whatever we are calling the platform this week) are acting all happy about this announcement leads me to believe the AI Overlords have truly taken over.
Well everyone, reality and freedom were truly fun, while it lasted
How the hell did this get a sequel?
If there is an audience for this game then we definitely know why. Hey, I’m not judging. This game ain’t for me though.
It's sold pretty well and probably didn't cost much to make. Debatable if they'll manage the same thing twice though.
It baffles me how this dev is able to keep making games. Honestly, I really wanted this game to be good. Hot girl fighting dinos is the exact Dino crisis fun I miss. They should just spending longer making the original game better. Sad.
Still planing to pick this up at some point when on heavy sale. Hopefully they would have fixed some of the bugs if they haven’t already.
This game gave us an Alex Olney video on Push Square.
It’s not all bad. 😅
That bridge is burnt, aint no one buying a sequel to a trash game, especially one whose devs who try to silence valid criticism. Sony really needs to do something about the devs who release crap knowing full well we can't get a refund
@Icey664 It's developed by 4 people. Assuming EVERYONE who played left a review, that's £112,000 in sales taking platform fees into account. If 1% of people left a review, then it's a ridiculous £11.2m in sales less platform fees.
They had 6 VA's to pay and other software licensing fees, so take that with a pinch of salt, but however you spin it, it's a pretty good take home profit for a 4 man team.
