Ubisoft has lost another veteran employee in Luc Couture, who had been at the company for roughly 24 years.
Couture announced his departure on social media this week, having worked on numerous properties across his storied career at the publisher. Most notably, he had a huge influence on the structure of numerous Assassin's Creed titles as a level designer and design director.
Couture's decision will no doubt raise some eyebrows given the current state of Ubisoft. It's no secret that the company has undergone — and is still undergoing — a significant reshaping.
It's recently cancelled entire projects like the Prince of Persia remake, and established a new creative division with colossal Chinese conglomerate NetEase, which now oversees the publisher's most important properties.
As part of this dramatic restructure, Ubisoft lost longtime Assassin's Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté, who's now involved in a legal dispute with the company.
Couture doesn't point towards any kind of friction in his aforementioned post, but again, the timing of his departure will inevitably spark questions.
"I was recently in need for some change. So that's why I will soon pivot to tackling new challenges as part of a smaller studio with other veterans. Times are exciting. So stay tuned!," he writes.
