Re: Best PS4 RPGs

djdizzy

I wanted to get into Witcher 3. The stories and visuals are A+ but when it plays as bad as it does, it’s hard for me to come back to. My wife wants me to go back to Witcher 3 understandably, I’d rather watch someone else play it too. But it’s such a chore to play with its abominable combat + gameplay. At some point I’ll do her a solid and go back to it... I’m dragging my feet though.

Especially when I can fire up Nier Automata instead. Which has some of the best combat + gameplay I’ve experienced.

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

djdizzy

No I don’t feel lied to, that thought hasn’t even crossed my mind.

And about the next-gen experience, I love the PS5 so far. Keeping in mind it’s still brand new. IMO a small library is to be expected for some time with any new console generation and has been the case with every console I was an early adopter of.

I also feel like any game that uses the DualSense’s adaptive triggers & haptics feels as next-gen as I’ve ever experienced. Even 3rd party games like RE Village on PS5 deliver an experience that cannot be duplicated on any other system and definitely not the PS4.

Or Control, where it runs smooth compared to the PS4 but mainly it’s use of the DualSense creates an awesome experience to me.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 378

djdizzy

I just got Ending B in Nier Automata. This game is deserving of all its praise.

I’m about 3/4 the way through RE Village. I miss the scares, however it’s a lot of fun.

R-Type Final 2, a must-buy for any shmup fans. I still haven’t beat it yet though :/ I need to beat it to unlock the Leo ship.

I played some Scarlet Nexus demo last night. It made me really want to fire up DMC5 SE.

And a few demolition derbies ala Wreckfest multiplayer (thanks PS+). I’ve uninstalled Destruction AllStars, this is more up my alley.

Re: Technical Issues Restrict Biomutant to Just 1080p, 60fps on PS5

djdizzy

That’s disappointing, they said it was supposed to be optimized for PS5.

To all the people above saying you can’t tell the difference between 1080p and 4K, like they know better than you do. It’s not like a placebo effect. I’ve played the same games in 1080p vs 4K and the difference is obvious. 1080p games look blurry on my tv compared to the same game in 4k.

Re: Photo Mode Comes to Destruction AllStars in Latest Update, Available Now

djdizzy

I loved my first couple matches, it captured the feeling of going to the arcade (somehow) but lost alot of its fun too soon to me.

But mine stopped being able to connect to multiplayer for 2 months. I deleted and redownloaded it. It redownloaded with a different version, turns out there was an update that failed to install. Now that it’s working, I’m playing Wreckfest instead.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Resident Evil Village?

djdizzy

I’m about 13 hours into my first playthrough. I’ve heard some people complain about the aiming but I haven’t had any problems, I think it’s quite good. Don’t forget to turn off Movement Camera Acceleration & Aiming Camera Acceleration though!

I got owned a few times at that opening ambush and I rage quit. Not knowing what to do frustrates me. I tried it again the next day and easily got through it, I even had fun with that scene!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 376

djdizzy

RE Village: I got it on launch day and I’m about 3 hours in. I haven’t played it much because my wife’s in the room and it scares her, which is funny because RE2make doesn’t scare her as much. RE2make is certainly scarier, whereas Village is spooky at parts but not scary. Maybe it’s the higher graphical fidelity of playing it on PS5 that gets to her? I’m not sure, it’s a mystery to me.

Street Fighter 30 Anniversary : I just picked this up and have been playing a lot of SF3 online. I haven’t played SF3 in 2 decades but have been having some great ranked matches where we’re both down to empty energy bars and are having a push+pull flow to the match.

Guilty Gear Strive beta 2: My wife and I played against each other for an hour. I’ve never played a Guilty Gear before but I admired Xrd from afar. Unfortunately I have no idea how to really play it. I’m not sure whether to dig into Xrd guides and see if it’s the same or to call it a wrap on Guilty Gear as my curiosity is satisfied. It’s looks great but the controls feel unresponsive compared to SF3. I’m just not familiar with the timing.

R-Type Final 2 : I’m a life-long fan of the series and am completely obsessed with beating it. I’ve gotten to stage 5 on normal difficulty but am still getting my ass kicked regularly. This week I’ve been sinking the most time into this one.

Resogun : I never had a PS4 so it’s new to me. Having a lot of fun saving the humans. I’ve been playing R-Type a lot more than Resogun and have noticed that R-Type has made me better at Resogun because R-Type the more difficult game IMO.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Mass Effect Legendary Edition?

djdizzy

I’ve never played the originals but I’m curious (which is why I’m reading this article and comments). In my mind it’s like Galaxy Quest mixed with Dead Space.

I only had a PS3 until getting a PS5 in November so my backlog is real. Note to self: don’t skip a console generation again.

Re: Resident Evil Village Ships Over Three Million Copies Worldwide

djdizzy

I’ve only played it one day so far, I’m just a couple hours in. I’m playing it with my wife along for the ride but it’s scaring her, so I’m waiting for her to get ready for the next session. I feel like it’s creepy at parts but not scary unfortunately. But I’m really enjoying Village, it’s delivering on a higher level than I was expecting.

Having said that, it doesn’t come close to RE2make. That game is a 10/10 masterpiece. If RE3 was a full-fledged game then I’d say I like that better too. But that’s no jab at Village.

I’m really looking forward to Code Veronica & Dino Crisis 1 remakes. Make it happen, Capcom!

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Returnal?

djdizzy

@Futureshark From what I heard, Returnal’s actually pushing the PS5 pretty hard too.

Granted, it probably takes years to learn the optimization tricks for a new console and see what it can really do. But it’s cool there’s finally a game out there that’s pushing it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 375

djdizzy

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike via the 30th Anniversary Collection. My favorite fighting game of all-time.

Nier Automata. I’m 13 hours into my first playthrough. I was hoping it lived up to the hype and, to me, it really does. The combat has clicked for me so I’m doing a lot of side quests and haven’t even reached Ending A yet.

RE Village. The damn lycans are kicking my ass. I’m taking a break and will loosen up with some SF3 then give it another shot. Not really sure where to go when they swarm me. Still figuring it out. Overall I’m impressed though I must say.

Re: Resident Evil Village (PS5) - Capcom's Best Horror Game for 16 Years

djdizzy

@NeonPizza I hear you, I’m steering clear of YT for now too ever since I saw a spoiler thumbnail. I’m about 2 hours into Village on PS5, in my opinion I agree that it’s worth waiting until you get a PS5.

We definitely have differing preferences but I hope you have as much enjoyment with RE3make as I had. Knowing how it’s shorter with cut content, et cetera, what’s there is great. Not flawless but overall a really good time and I appreciate that it was made at all. It’s probably in my top 5 for RE.

You have a point that REmake HD remaster’s 3D assets don’t blend with the pre-rendered images like they did on GameCube. On GC it blended so well and the lighting was more fitting. I couldn’t get into new controls, too disorienting. I think my occasional replays of Silent Hill 2 keep my tank control muscle memory intact so the clunk doesn’t bother me, it just seems fitting. Funny enough it’s RE4’s special style of tank + aiming that’s always gotten me crossed me up. I could never get very far in 4.

RE0’s HD remaster is a stunner by comparison. Zero has such a strong opening IMO, I wish it didn’t fall off the rails with story and the zapping system but that’s just part of Capcom’s “live and learn”. If Capcom were to ever completely redo 0 (different story + RE2make treatment) they could have something special on their hands by telling the story of the Bravo team.

Re: Resident Evil Village (PS5) - Capcom's Best Horror Game for 16 Years

djdizzy

@NeonPizza I could see why you’d say that RE1 Remake hasn’t aged well because of the fixed camera angle and controls mainly. But even considering that, I don’t see how Village is even in the same class.

RE2 Remake, while it does have minor flaws, is one of the greatest survival horror games that Capcom likely won’t top anytime soon, certainly not with Village.

Granted I’ve only finished the Village demos, not the full game. My copy arrives today so I’ll see if Village blindsides me as the best RE of the past 16 years. So far it’s greatly lacking in the scares department.

Re: Guide: How to Save the Humans and Stave Off the Keepers in Resogun on PS4

djdizzy

It’s 2021 and I just picked up Resogun. In fact I never heard of it until Returnal then I heard Resogun and Nex Machina references.

Ok, Resogun is fantastic! My old school arcade muscle memory kicked in and made it very hard to put down 😀

I can’t wait to try Nex Machina at some point in the future. Robotron was before my time but I was a major SmashTV fan in the day and even loved Loaded.

Re: All Free PS Plus Games in 2021

djdizzy

FF7 Remake and Control were the best of the bunch for me. Both surprised me as going from passing interests to becoming a couple of my favorite games.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake really hooked me into its world and everything about it.

Control, I love its whole vibe and I have just 2 words to say... Ashtray Maze. Although I’ll say, in the off-chance that someone is reading this reply and is playing through Control: don’t Google Ashtray Maze. Just let yourself come across it naturally in the game and be surprised by it. It’s late-game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 374

djdizzy

I’m on my 2nd week of my first playthrough of Nier Automata. I’m doing a lot of exploring so I haven’t gotten the first ending yet but I’m already hooked as the mystery of the world slowly unravels. The flow of the combat has really clicked with me now and I feel supremely confident until I meet a boss and the perspective changes.

I’m still slowly chipping away at Witcher 3. My wife loves watching me play it and wants me to play it more. I like it overall but am not feeling the gameplay much. I’m sure it’ll grow on me but it’s tough going from Automata to Witcher.

I think I’m getting close to finishing Ratchet & Clank. Im playing the PS4 reboot on PS5 with the 60fps patch.

I picked up Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection so I’ll be doing some SF Alpha & SF3 online matches.

And I’m excited to start Horizon Zero Dawn. I’ve never played it but got it from Play At Home. I’m waiting until I finish Automata before starting HZD.

Re: Housemarque Acknowledges Request for Mid-Run Saves in Returnal

djdizzy

@GamingVeteran I get what you’re saying. This game is like a modern day quarter-muncher. Die lots, get good.

But Housemarque has crossed over into story-driven game territory with this one, only if just by a bit. A more liberal checkpoint system is necessary due to the sheer length and depth of Returnal.... versus arcade games which lacked the length and didn’t require such a thing.

The replies I’m reading the most are from busy people who are otherwise quite interested in Returnal. It takes multiple hours to reach the checkpoint and these people don’t have that kind of time for one session. Some of them bought the game already, some won’t until/unless a resume feature is implemented.

Returnal definitely doesn’t need a modern, robust save system and I think that’d be a bad thing for this game. It just needs a more liberal checkpoint system or a simple resume, delete the save, type of system to address time constraints. I feel like it’s a legitimate request.

Re: Mini Review: R-Type Final 2 (PS4) - One of the Greatest Shmups Ever Gets a Timely Sequel

djdizzy

I downloaded the demo when I first caught wind that it was available. For weeks I’ve been playing the first stage over and over. When a game I’m playing frustrates me, I fire up this demo and cool off.

It’s not fantastic visuals but they suffice. The gameplay is where it’s at though especially for a R-Type fan. At the end of the day, it’s R-Type so I’m going to buy it.

Re: PlayStation Absolutely Dominates the DICE Awards

djdizzy

@ORO_ERICIUS Exactly, I did a double-take on Dirt 5 being a finalist for Racing Game of the Year.

Honestly, I haven’t played it but I wanted to buy it and the overwhelming reports of bugs + crashes + general game suckiness made me decide against it.

Even after patches, it became plagued with slowdown that wasn’t there before + it still crashes.... and that’s the PS5 release!

Re: Returnal Runs at 60 FPS in Dynamic 4K with Raytraced Lighting on PS5

djdizzy

@JohnnyShoulder PS5 for a combination of items like those certain PS4 games that got PS5 upgrades: steady 60 FPS, stable gameplay for games that PS4 Pro had trouble keeping up with. And of course RTX as an option. Aside from that we’ll have to wait and see how it pans out.

The 60fps makes a discernible difference. When I played Ghost of Tsushima and God of War on PS4 vs PS5, gameplay felt more responsive and made the game control better. Most noticeable in difficult combat sequences.

But surprisingly the #1 next-gen thing about the PS5 IMO is the adaptive triggers. I had no idea I’d love them so much, it’s the first thing I deeply miss when I go from PS5 back to PS4. The haptics are quite immersive like rumble taken to next-level but the triggers are simply outstanding like I want them on everything.

Re: All Resident Evil Games Ranked and Best Places to Start

djdizzy

Nice list @RenanKJ

My top 5 would be

1) RE1 Remake HD Remaster
2) RE2 Remake
3) RE2 Original
4) RE3 Original
5) RE4

Apparently I have strange taste b/c loved RE3 Remake. It’d be a toss-up with RE7 at my #6, both of which I really loved. Them not being in top 5 is a sign of disapproval, the RE list is one of very tough competition!
