Horizon Forbidden West PS5 PlayStation 5 1

PlayStation Studios, the group which houses renowned Sony developers like Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games, has “more than 25 titles in development for the PS5” – and “nearly half of which are entirely new [intellectual property]”. That’s according to a Wired post-mortem, which features anecdotes from key PlayStation personnel like bosses Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst.

“There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” Hulst, who’s in charge of PlayStation Studios, said. “Big, small, different genres.”

The comments seem like a direct shot at reports earlier in the year which suggested Sony was increasingly reluctant to take creative risks with its titles. We argued at the time that the comments didn’t necessarily align with reality, but Hulst seems eager to put that particular line of discussion to bed. It’s not the first time he’s said something like this.

Still, the sheer number of titles being touted here is impressive. The platform holder has stressed on multiple occasions that it wants to double down on exclusives – and it’s announced several partnerships with new teams like Haven and Firewalk to supplement its own internal efforts – but 25 games is a lot. It means we can look forward to a bright future on PS5 for sure.
