The new intellectual property in development at Days Gone developer Sony Bend will “build on the deep open world systems” that the team created for its popular post-apocalyptic title. As we already know, the Japanese giant decided not to green light a sequel to Deacon St John’s story, but PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst says that the developer is “very, very passionate about” its new project.
There are no further details on what the project will entail, and Hulst simply concludes that he’s “really happy for Bend Studio”. The news comes by way of a big update on Sony suite of first-party studios, in which it also confirmed that God of War Ragnarok will now release in 2022, while flagship titles like Gran Turismo 7 will also launch on PS4.

Days Gone was one of my most favorite PS4 games. I would love a follow up, but Sony/Bend won't allow it. Imagine what a sequel would do with the horde mode on PS5.
Hopefully, it's much better than that mediocre drivel Days Gone.
runs under a bed and hides
Man this sounds good. Like imagine a game with Days Gone’s good parts but without any of the characters.
@nessisonett Yeah, the characters were awful. Like, 99% of them spoke gibberish, couldn't even hold a proper conversation, let alone give you a side mission or whatever. I ended up killing most of 'em.
Only released on PS5? Well, looks like the prayers in my comment on the GoW articles have been answered in less than 5 minutes haha!
@Octane The best thing to do is just sit still on your bike while talking to an NPC, so that Deacon screams at them. That entire game makes me appreciate Spider-Man’s audio direction so much more.
'Bend Studio is working on a very exciting new IP that they’re very, very passionate about. They’re building on the deep open-world systems that they developed with Days Gone. So I’m really happy for Bend Studio.'
🤔
OK
I'm still hopefull Days Gone 2 will come when the time is right and fully new gen
@Dman10
That s why the sequel should be on PS5 only and not the cross gen game that was planned.
Thinking of what the team could do with the overall "feel" of DG's (fantastic) open world... maybe it could be some sort of action RPG? I'm thinking of something that could be done with its scaling of "hordes" and I'm veering toward something medieval? Would be cool to be able to traverse a big open world with different environments and then get into massive on-foot Braveheart-style battles.
Replace the motorcycle with a horse and the modern era with a medieval one and you sorta have the groundwork laid for a style of IP that Sony could use as a counterpunch to Microsoft's Elder Scrolls ownership. Could help compete with them, Assassin's Creeds, Witcher.
It's Syphon Filter. Duh. Anyone who isn't blind already knows this. Come back to this post when I'm right. -June 2, 2021
@Tas10 I love playing games on PC too but comparing a rig like that to a 2014 console is a bit mad.
My biggest nightmare while playing this game, was running out of gas. That was just ridiculous
I’ll never forget a series of moments I had while playing Days Gone. I was quietly approaching a camp when I stumbled across a straggler freaker. Not wanting to give away my position, I stealthily took it down. As the animation played out, another popped over a nearby hill, then another. They spotted me and started running. So did I - right into a wandering horde. I instinctually started running and gunning, strategically leading them back to the camp. Then, to my horror, the distinct roar of a bear echoed through the trees. I turned the camera to see the disgruntled, whaling Winnie bearing down at my flank. My pulse was through the roof.
Then, shots rang out from the camp as it’s inhabitants began fighting for their lives. In the midst of all out war, I melted into the camp, looting and snuffing life from the shadows. When the dust settled, there were but a few displaced freakers to dispatch followed by a moment of beautiful quiet.
It was gaming gold. I absolutely cannot wait to see what these folks are cooking up.
PS5 only please as the old PS4 hardware is limit their ambitions.
@SamMR gas is pretty widely available in the world. I think I only ran out once through my entire playthrough where I actually had to get on foot and go find some but that made the game feel more realistic
In thier next game they seriously need to have a think about the myriad of rinse and repeat missions days gone had
I mean I really really want a days gone sequel cos it was basically my favourite game on ps4 but I hope they make something equally as good if they don’t end up doing one
@Tas10 I should hope it is for the money you have to spunk on a gaming rig.
i bought this on steam , im hoping with the sales will put sony thinking sequel , ive an amd rig and an intel rig. i do love tech
linux got me in to computers more. its my job but i like consoles to. repairing busted ones is fun to. im so hoping on a new game building up from the first lots of stories still to be told.
@Saucymonk
Yeah. A 3080 at MSRP is worth twice as much as a digital PS5. And Like a PS5, they are nearly unobtainable without paying two grand to a scalper.
I got a PS5 on launch day. And I contemplated building a gaming rig this year but screw that nonsense. Crypto mining has ruined the GPU market.
@Tas10
Yes, PC is superior to console for the most part. It’s been that way since the late 1990s.
That said, it can be a headache that a lot of people don’t want to deal with. It’s better than it used to be (I built my first rig in 2005 and we’ve come a long way since then in terms of user friendly assembly and driver installation) but a lot of folks don’t want to deal with even that. And I don’t blame them. I went back to console as my primary in 2009 because I was moving around a lot and a console is just easier to pack up and move around than an enormous desktop.
This smacks of PR damage control after the news came out that Bend was denied their pitch to develop DG2.
Great news. Enjoyed Days Gone, glad Sony giving them another chance to show their stuff.
Gaming Gods, I don't ask for much, but please, please please please let this be the first party high fantasy title I've been waiting for.
Please.
Whatever they make I hope they hire some new writers and work on their performances. The dialogue and delivery in Days Gone is awful.
I did enjoy Days Gone (played it at a silky 60fps on PS5). It was a little rough around the edges. I am stoked that Sony Bend will get another chance at a similar game. Hopefuly they can smartly repurpose the Days Gone Horde tech in to their new game.
@Play This is a new IP, couldn’t be Syphon Filter in that case.
@Residentsteven lol I wish I got to that level. It's not quite so bad it's good
I really enjoyed Days Gone and the characters in it. Like a lot of games it took some time till for everything to fall into place and me starting to enjoy it. Would I purchase a new Days Gone, hell yeah. Will I take a good look at the new IP that's a yes also.
@itsfoz LOL I just came from that article too. That’s too funny.
if its a spin off or set in the same world i wouldn't mind that, i can't wait to see what will happen.
I hope for bend success, it's sony fault days gone reviews isn't good since the games is full of bugs even with day one patch, sony should delay the game so bend can polish it more.
PC fanboy trolls are the saddest. Little known fact: they are the main reason Ant implemented the Ignore feature, you should try it!
@JJ2 If their new game is succesful, I doubt we'll ever see Days Gone back ever again. And while I truly loved Days Gone (one of my favorite PS4 games!), that's fine to me as long as Bend takes their lessons learned from Days Gone and implements them in whatever game they're working on now.
What I loved about Days Gone was the connected world and the survival aspects. I do hope those will make a return in whatever they're working on.
Days Gone-a make a new game.
Hopefully they can make their dreams come true with their next IP, I can tell they really tried with Days Gone.
@RBMango While I may not agree with your opinion, you do have the right to have one. helps you get out and gives a hug
