@Octane Horizon Zero Dawn saw over a 250% return on investment for the PC port. That's why Sony are pushing forward with more ports, especially if it's older games where sales have dried up on console.
Turns out, this is NOT Koijima and according to Jeff Grubb, Kojima has actually signed on with Xbox to make the Cloud based game he pitched to Stadia. Portal creator Kim Swift has joined XGSP and will assist Kojima. Take with a pinch of salt as it's Jeff Grubb and he's not been reliable of late...
If they charge full price for this then I won't be bothering unless there are SIGNIFICANT additions. I would have rather a FF7 Remake situation, where the additions are paid DLC and we get a free upgrade for the base game. This just cries of money grabbing.
Makes you wonder when on earth we'll see a next-gen version. Wouldn't shock me if that gets delayed to 2022 and they focus on patching the last gen version.
1. It's Hideo Kojima trolling us all and its Silent Hills. Hitting PC at a later date much like Death Stranding. Everyone rejoices!
2. It really is just a indie studio and they've used the Silent Hill rumours as a way to gain promotion for an otherwise uninteresting game. Everyone rages!
I'm starting to believe this now. The old rumour about there being 2 Silent Hill game sin development, one PS exclusive and 1 multiformat, could be true after all.
@Netbean I think it will happen eventually, but that means that income needs replacing with something else. I think Xbox could drop it first once Game Pass hits a set amount of subscribers, but not sure what Sony could do to substitute that lost income. You can then also go into the debate of why next gen games cost £70/$70 when the same game is £50/$60 on PC.
@velio84 Pretty sure PS5 is already breaking records. PS is going absolutely no where, but I think the discourse is because Xbox seems to be more forward thinking with their business model and they have the money to back it up. PS meanwhile is just carrying on with what they do best, the traditional way.
So have they stopped charging developers now then or are they still the only company to do this? They need to make positive moves like how Xbox was eventually hounded out about charging people to play F2P games.
I feel for people who maybe don't have the budget to buy multiple consoles or have a decent enough PC, but one small positive is the Cloud streaming option will be there. Obviously no where near the same as a local experience, but for people of a budget, better than nothing.
On one hand, he is correct, on the other wrong.
Money will buy you top established studios/publishers. It's then down to you as the owner how you allow that company to run.
You also then have the responsibility for that company financially, so it's not even as simple as having the funds to make the purchase of the studio/publisher, but the cost of running them long term.
Not being a fanboy here, but Sony can't afford to go out and buy top established publishers even if they wanted.
That's why you see all these recent deals with start-up studios based around experienced devs that have left other studios.
I'm just glad these partnerships seem to be diversifying the exclusive genre pool, as there's no denying the current template, while high quality, is 3rd person blockbuster action games.
Would love to see more multiplayer focused stuff, FPS, RPG etc.
Desperate times here. It's already been established that the founder of the company is in fact a real person and the name cannot be legally faked. They stated they have no association with Kojima ,Silent Hill, or Konami. No quite sure what else people need here apart from being massively disappointed in the future.
No issue with this.
I imagine it will hit Xbox at some point as well.
Although I won't be shifting platform to play the series elsewhere.
FF16 is 12 month timed exclusive and no doubt FF7 Part 2 will be as well, so at the moment, PS5 is the best place to play FF games.
I can see this happening. If Horizon FW slips to 2022, what exclusives has PS4 got for the rest of the year? Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo are only on PS5. There's nothing else major really. They could certainly scale this game back to 900/1080p at 30FPS. There's no gameplay mechanic like Ratchet & Clank that prevents a port. More gamers get to play the game and Sony makes more sales. Win win.
I think it's only weakened due the pandemic and also people like Geoff Keighley wanting to take the spot light and have his own show at the same time. Take his very weak show, combine it will E3, and you'd have a half decent showing overall.
Also doesn't help that Sony don't get involved. But now they look in a weak position when you see Xbox taking all the media attention and PS5 sitting there with an unconfirmed holiday line-up and no hype. Obviously, that could all change if Sony do their own show soon.
Played the demo, it was rough, but potential is there. I think they need to delay the game based on what I've played and hopefully they take player feedback on board from the demo experience.
Graphics and tone need a revamp. And the dialogue needs reworking.
It's a very niche franchise, so that's not bad. The PS5 price at £40 will definitely help it have long legs I feel. £70 and it would have been dead on arrival.
@LocalPenguin I just hope Sony do something with PS Now.
At least offer first party games in the service 12 months after launch and make sure they STAY in the service.
Imagine if in November, they relaunched the service with Spiderman MM, Demon's Souls, Sackboy and some older PS4 exclusives like Ghost of Tsushima? Suddenly PS Now becomes a must-have service.
As someone who owns all systems, what this means is that I'll buy less PS5 games. On Xbox, I can get Game Pass Ultimate for full price for the year at £131.88 (Gold, EA Play, Cloud, PC). On PS5, buy 2 PS5 exclusives for £139.99 and another £49.99 for PS+ for a total of £189.97.
That is the harsh reality right now and Sony need to do something to change the narrative.
I think part of the issue, and I don't mean this in a massively negative way, is that Sony clearly loves a remaster or a remake and want to charge again for it.
@Rob_230 100% agree with you. The refund policy on PSN is next to non-existent and needs improving drastically. In terms of this game and others, I feel too many use a day one patch as the holy grail to fix a rough game and platform holders are obviously fine with that.
The reality is PlayStation can't compete financially with the direction Xbox is going, and they know that so are being very smart. Instead of buying up studios, they fund smaller studios to make exclusives in exchange for rights to the game IP.
It's a win for Sony because they aren't responsible for funding that company afterwards like they would be if they purchased them, and it's a win for the smaller developer as they get a budget to make a game they wouldn't be able to otherwise.
Well deserved. Probably still THE best mainstream game to introduce people to the PS5 and probably helps it's MASSIVELY cheaper than the other first party games at around £35 for the base game brand new.
This is why they should let Mark Cerny or Herman Hulst do the PR work for PS5 and leave Jim Ryan doing the business stuff out of the public eye. Gamers can relate a lot more to an actual gamer rather than some business man.
@KayOL77 What I mean is I didn't personally like the 'Performance RT' mode as there were too many sacrifices for me when for my first PS5 game when I'm after a showcase experience. The normal 'Performance' mode was better for me as you still had a lot of the graphical features intact and the resolution range was 4K-1440p.
That's just my personal preference. That's why I said it's great to have the options available.
I'll probably just go with the Performance Mode myself as I found the Spiderman MM 'Performance RT' mode to take too much of a hit graphically. Was 1440p-1080p with lots of lowered graphical settings like crowd density and 1/4 res ray traced reflections. Looked like a PS4 Pro game.
Sounds about right to me. This is the only game they clearly advertised as PS5 exclusive and technically lied about. So the recent change explains that. Although I imagine this will push development even further back now.
As a PC gamer along with console gaming, cross gen doesn't bother me as PC games have never been held back. What does bother me is when Jim Ryan lies about next gen games. Yes, we've had Demon's Souls, Returnal and soon R&C: Rift Apart, but all the big system selling IPs like Spiderman, God of War, GT7, Horizon FW etc are all cross gen. @Jacko11 AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution is on the way and will the answer to have Ray Tracing at 60FPS without major graphical compromise. They are the vehicle used to sell you the software and services.
