Does anyone know if they are going to do cross progression? So if I play the PC version but then buy the PS5 ver, or Switch/Xbox ver down the line, can save data carry over?
@Tatarimokke Because Fortnite, COD and FIFA are the types of games casuals play that don't buy any other games. Plenty of my friends fall into this category lol.
@GamingVeteran How many publishers are actually charging £70/$70? Sony, Activision and Take Two. I can't think of any others.
So for example, why would I pay £70 for Returnal, when I can get RE Village for £55 digitally, and even cheaper physically? These are the issues Sony have caused for themselves.
Gave it 2 hours and then called it a day. Glad it was free on PS5 tbh. Just felt like a game lost in time and trying to over complicate things with the crafting rather than focusing on improving the actual platforming gameplay and Lemmings style mechanics that made the originals so great back in the day. The humour seems to be gone as well that I remember from the PS1 games.
I do think 4/10 is very harsh though. A 6/10 would be a fair score in all honesty. It is after all an indie game perhaps being billed as something bigger than it is.
@Serialsid I'll take your word for it pal. Just very strange comments when anyone buying a Series X at this point knows its for Game Pass or back-compat games at this stage in terms of exclusives. Don't think we'll see any major exclusives from Xbox until towards the end of the year and the Bethesda stuff probably won't start releasing until 2022 unless they sneak out Starfield end of the year.
PS5 definitely has the more interesting announced exclusives right now. It's just the £70 that makes me hesitant to jump on stuff like Returnal until reviews and player feedback start surfacing.
Not for me unless it's bundled with a The Last of Us 2 PS5 version similar to the Spiderman MM Ultimate edition. I don't mind remakes. Loved the Resi 2 remake. Loved FF7 remake. But the game was literally remastered on PS4, has PS4 Pro improvements, and hold up very well on PS5.
Just seems like Sony trying to cash in on the upcoming TV series.
@Serialsid So let me get this, you claim to have a Series X for the exclusives, but the only big announced exclusive for this year you call "A generic boring looking Halo that looks like it hasnt progressed in years." And the controller "feels like a cheap toy and lifeless after adaptive triggers and haptics."
Sorry but I don't believe you own one based on those comments. I own a PS5 and Series X myself, but Series X gets some good usage in between my PS5 due to Game Pass with stuff like Outriders and Octopath Traveller literally just from the past 2 weeks.
It depends what you class and losing or winning? Has PS5 sold the most consoles to date? Yes. Has Xbox got the most momentum right now. Yes.
This is the issue now. There won't be a clear cut winner in the traditional sense and Sony need to be very careful of this. Xbox aren't in the game of wanting to sell the most consoles this gen. They want people signed up to Game Pass Ultimate. This can literally be accessed on consoles, PC, mobiles, tablets and soon Smart TVs.
So Sony need to either get themselves a Game Pass equivalent and stay competitive with the direction Xbox is going, or let them go their own way and identify Nintendo as their main competitor, since they are the only other console maker still focused on the traditional means of selling games.
@render
I can see where you're coming from, but the game was 1 month out, it would have been major crunch time, and France has literally entered a third national lockdown.
Schools are closed for 4 weeks, so staff will be working from home with kids to look after and the country's hospitals are overwhelmed.
Sometimes there's a more human and logical reason for a game delay.
@render By that logic, wouldn't they rush the game out, since the 12 months exclusivity starts by the games release date, meaning it won't be on Xbox until September 2022 now.
In terms of Kojima working with Xbox, it's possible. Sony clearly didn't keep him on for another project after Death Stranding, since he tried to pitch a project to Google for Stadia, but didn't get the greenlight. So it could make sense that Xbox could fun him and give him creative freedom. We did also see that Ludens figure on Phil Spencer's shelf next to an Xbox logo, that could have been a hint.
Will this be a big loss for PlayStation if true? Not really based on the rather marmite Death Stranding. Time will tell I guess...
@deathaxe Quite a few actually. My TV is a Sony 2019 model and can do 120hz in 1080p and 1440p over HDMI 2.0. Unfortunately PS5 doesn't support 1440p output, so I have to drop to 1080p, but for multiplayer games that support it, I find it acceptable. Series X can also take advantage of this, and can output at 1440p 120hz. So in that sense, I don't feel an urgency to rush out and buy a new HDMI 2.1 TV any time soon.
I think we all knew this was the case. Just a shame that Sony didn't react and put this on PS Now to try and get the ball rolling with that service. I do wonder though if they'll get access to Game Pass data for this game so they can see from themselves if it this route is worth taking for them?
The lack of proper marketing for this game is rather concerning for me. PS5 hasn't had any big exclusives since launch so you would have thought Sony would be pushing this game big time, yet they've done very little and the game is literally just over 3 weeks from release.
Shambles really. Fair enough if these games had paid PS5 upgrades, but they are free, yet PS5 owners are stuck with a PS4 version. Sony need to get their act together.
@SegataSanshiro Exactly. I get a better selection of first part titles from the PS Plus Collection being a PS5 owner. I understand that PlayStation don't have the money to lock up day one titles like Xbox can, but they can at least put all older first party titles as a permanent fixtures of PS Now. Just speaks volumes of how little they actually see it as part of their main business plans.
@SegataSanshiro The other thing that irks me is a lot of the Sony games are missing. How can you try to offer a service like this but not even include your older games that can be bought physically for next to nothing?
@mrbone Bad PR is why they needed to counter. A first party developed game is on Game Pass day one, and the equivalent service for Sony does not have it. I doubt they will get any money from MS either, as the MLB publish the game on Xbox, not Sony. Probably why the deal even happened.
I'm not arguing the price point of the service, but just the fact Sony have a sleeping giant to challenge Game Pass, but don't seem to know how to take advantage of it. I'd gladly pay £10.99/$15 a month if Sony first party games were included day one in PS Now.
Very suprised to not see MLB The Show here. I thought Sony would have to counter Xbox, but clearly not...
@Kopite Avengers is actually a pretty decent get for PS Now. The only negative is the game is dying so probably should be F2P at this point and not part of a subscription service. Still worth the download for the campaign though.
Sony have had their pants pulled down here big time! How long can they go on until they have their own answer to Game Pass?! Surely Sony have to stick this game in PS Now to avoid terrible PR?
@ShiningStar I don't think it's a question of people being poor. Some gamers will want to trade in games if they are the 'one and done' variety and may never play them again.
I'm a digital gamer myself with a PS5 Digital console. I've regretted it slightly as Sony seem very stubborn on the £70 price for games, which I refuse to pay unless they are a must-have. For example, I didn't mind paying that for Spiderman MM Ultimate. For others, I'll simply wait for a price drop. I game on multiple console and PC, so I don't mind waiting.
Sony trying to kill off Demon Souls at £69.99 and Sackboy at £59.99. Both these games are in desperate need of a discount if they actually want to shift PS5 Digital consoles. Demon Souls can be had for £50 physical and Sackboy for £48. Neither of these 2 games are in the UK Top 40 Game Chart for 22nd March either. Only Spiderman MM at #3.
Smartest move they've made so far. Got greedy and wanted to copy the GTA V formula. They need to stick to what they are good at, ie making quality single player RPG experiences. Also, go back to 3rd person. You have all these character customization options in Cyberpunk, yet you can't even see your character unless you look in a mirror. They should have approached the view point like Skyrim. Have first person as default but offer a 3rd person view point as well.
It's almost as if PlayStation are trying to self destruct so far this gen! They had an absolute stormer last gen with PS4, couldn't really do no wrong. Then we come to PS5 and they just seem to have lost the plot with decision making!
I think the first party launch games are due a sale. Demon Souls needs to drop to about £50-55. Sackboy needs to drop to around £30-35. Spiderman MM is still selling like hot cakes, so can't see that going on sale.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's Death Stranding for PS4.
Lots of rumours of a 'Directors Cut' launching for PS5/PC this year, so they'll probably give away the last gen version at some point, a bit like with the FF7 R deal.
If emulators on PC can run these games at higher resolutions, you can't tell me Sony can't do the same for PS5? I think this is going to be an Xbox One moment, where Sony realize they screwed up with their lack of back-compat (outside of PS4), and go all in with their engineers to get a proper solution up and running.
I think what's most likely happened is that Xbox has just handed Square Enix a bag of cash and said 'we want this game ported to Xbox and to be part of Game Pass'. That's the only reason I can think why they wouldn't also do a PS4/5 port at the same time, because Xbox funded the port.
@naruball No hardcore gamer is buying a Switch over a Playstation or Xbox. Switch sales have rocketed during the pandemic due to lots of schools kids being stuck at home, and the Switch Lite is a great console to keep them busy. It's a completely different audience.
Looks absolutely sick! Crazy the graphical difference between this and FF16. This looks really high end, reminding me of that Unreal Engine 5 demo, yet FF16 looked a bit 'last-gen'.
2022 is already looking pretty stacked for PS5. God of War Ragnarok will probably drop to 2022 as well.
@Serialsid I know. On one hand, I want this to have high enough specs to not get outdated so quick like PSVR1. On the other hand, VR will never hit mainstream unless a console offers one for a cheap enough price and offers substantial games to go with it. Only enthusiasts will buy a £450 console, then spend another £350+ on an accessory.
Looks very sleek and modern. Much better than the childish looking Move controllers. I just hope they can somehow keep the headset price down. If it ends up £350+ again, then it will be another niche product like PSVR1. They also need more first party support from the big franchises and to fund 3rd party devs. They should go to SEGA and fund them to make a VR House of the Dead. Go to Bandai Namco and fund them to make a VR Time Crisis. Lots of these light-gun shooter games are ideal for a comeback with VR!
The game looks superb, but now I'm having the difficult choice of buying this on my PS5, or being a cheap-skate and wait for it to hit Game Pass next year for my Series X... It's either this or Returnal for me atm and I still haven't decided!
@Vivisapprentice I think Xbox has the marketing rights for Scarlet Nexus, so they wouldn't be able to show that. It's a bit like how Sony has the marketing rights for RE: Village. GT7 is delayed until 2022. And I think they'll be saving FF16 for whatever E3 type event Sony have planned. This just seems to be a small event to show Sony is still interested in the Japanese market after all the negative press with the Japan Studios exodus.
@GameCollector84 Yeah, this is why I hope Sony eventually go for it next year. The key sales period for these games are the first 3 months anyway. The Last of Us 2 sold like crazy initially, and then 3 months later, reduced down to £25 to try and drum sales back up. That's the only way I see Sony taking PS Now seriously. Can't see them being too bold and putting their games in day one. We shall see anyway. At the moment it's back to carefully cherry picking which PS5 exclusive to drop £70 on!
@GameCollector84 Yep, I can definitely see where you are coming from. I don't think paid games will ever go away. There's still a large amount that would rather own a game if it' something they are going to replay over time. I personally think Sony should beef up PS Now by offering first party games in the service 6 months after release. That way it's a bit like a cinema model, where people that can pay the premium to own and play the game before the people that are waiting for the 'rented home release' option. I don't expect Sony to react this year though. I think it will next year when the big games start hitting Game Pass.
@GameCollector84 My calculations were based on UK price at 12 months. Obviously not everyone is paying full price, but the $1/£1 is only for new subscribers. Nope, Game Pass isn't profitable right now, but like mentioned in my previous post, if they can get enough 1st party content to the point they aren't relying on paid 3rd party games, then that money is all going back to them. Obviously the 2 billion is not pure profit, but we are talking about a service right now that is only 3 years old that hasn't even had any huge releases.
Let's be real. This is looking like the future of gaming, even if some don't like it. Sony has PS Now sitting there that's 7 years old with 2.2 million subscribers. It's a sleeping giant waiting to wake. It just needs Sony to see the success of Game Pass to fully commit. The current £70 price tag of games is going to kill off a lot of creative games like we've already seen at Sony Japan Studio, with a mass exodus.
@GameCollector84 I think you are being very cynical. I think MS's long term plan will be to have enough first party content in Game Pass where they don't need to push so hard by paying devs for 3rd party games to be included. That way, the sub fees will go straight back into their company. Currently, it's £10.99 for Game Pass Ultimate. Last report was 18m subs. That's over 2 billion a year just from GPU.
Think we all knew deep down this is what would happen. If Sony bought them, would they release the games outside of PS4/5? Nope. Thankfully I own both next gen systems, so I can still play these titles. One positive though is that Sony will now have to up their game, so we as gamers will benefit. PS Now is a sleeping giant just waiting for Sony to fully commit to it.

My calculations were based on UK price at 12 months.

I think you are being very cynical.
Re: Soapbox: How I Would Handle The Last of Us Factions
Hopefully the game is F2P and not tied to any base game, otherwise it's dead out the gate.
Or worst case, free on PS+ for a month then paid.
Re: Future Bethesda Games Will Ship 'Where Game Pass Exists'
Think we all knew deep down this is what would happen.
If Sony bought them, would they release the games outside of PS4/5? Nope.
Thankfully I own both next gen systems, so I can still play these titles.
One positive though is that Sony will now have to up their game, so we as gamers will benefit.
PS Now is a sleeping giant just waiting for Sony to fully commit to it.
