So they had HUGE success with Valhalla.
The best selling AC game in the series since 2012/13.
And now they throw the franchise down the ***** chasing the Fortnite money.
Hats off to the decision makers at Ubisoft!
@Nepp67 Yeah. I think games like this that are suddenly immensely popular due to streamers then lose popularity really need releases on multiple platforms and cross play to keep a healthy playerbase. I do think Epic bought the devs of this game, so no doubt that will happen at some point.
Not sure it makes a big difference, but RD2 Online is on Game Pass and Cloud Streaming, so maybe Xbox has a clause for exclusive cloud streaming or something? Or maybe Sony would have to pay extra for the streaming rights and they didn't want to? Who knows...
I think Xbox gamers are mostly digital buyers in all honesty. FIFA 21, Minecraft, The Sims 4, GTA V and Gang Beasts, all in Game Pass, yet currently in the top 20 paid games chart on the Xbox Store in the UK.
As someone gaming on PS5 and Series X, I haven't bought a game physically since Fallout 4 on my PS4! LOL
@The_New_Butler I don't think the price will drop much lower than £50 on preowned copies any time soon. The game reviewed well and is a graphical showcase for the console.
The only PS5 exclusive to plummet in price has been Godfall at £17 preowned. All the others are still around £45-60, even launch titles like Demon's Souls.
@The_New_Butler
I don't think it will crash and burn because there isn't a big PS5 exclusive out now until September with Deathloop, so it's got free reign until then, plus it's included in pretty much every PS5 console bundle I've seen recently in the UK at least, so that will help keep it in the charts.
But yeah, tons of copies at my local CEX branch when I visited over the weekend, but that's to be expected for a single player game. They are selling it for £60 preowned and offering £40 in store credit for a trade in.
An average month for me. I own a Series X with Game Pass so I now have a choice of which platform to play Plague Tale Innocence on. LOL The other 2 games are bargain bin stuff, so I feel sorry for PS4 owners this month.
@dskatter "For anyone intensely butthurt about this...skip going out to eat once or twice, and you're golden"
Almost as comical as when the PS3 launched with the crazy high price and they told us to go work 2 jobs to pay for it! Come on man. Take your blinkers off. Yes, they aren't forcing us to buy this, but they are taking advantage big time and there's no defending that.
These 'Directors Cuts' to me are a direct result of all the big games like GT7, God of War Ragnarok etc, all being delayed until 2022. Now games that probably intended to have separate DLC purchases to the base game are being locked together as 'Directors Cuts' so Sony can slap a $70 game on store shelves over the holiday period. To me, I can see the business sense, but that doesn't make it right.
Back to the Doom Eternal mention, imagine if the next gen upgrade had all the DLC locked to it and you had to pay $30 for the upgrade, even though you might not want the DLC but instead the improvements to the base game?
@Barryburton97 The PS5 patch is bare bones. You're just playing the PS4 Pro version at 60FPS instead of 30FPS through back-compat. That's it.
This native PS5 port 'should' be much better. Hopefully no checkboard rendering and a native resolution instead. Higher resolution textures, higher graphical settings etc.
@mookysam
Nobody thinks the DLC should be free.
People are annoyed because they have locked the DLC to the base game and called it a 'Directors Cut' as an excuse to sell the game full price to put on store shelves.
The pro-consumer move, and the move the majority of other companies do, is offer a free PS4>PS5 base game upgrade and then sell the DLC separate.
Embarrassing for whoever set that up and for anyone who signs it. Kojima is an indie dev and can go work for whatever platform he wants. You can't tell me he didn't pitch whatever game he wants to make to Sony first considering he also pitched it to Stadia?
As seen with the Bethesda deal, the employees didn't have a clue until shortly before the deal was announced. So how a Social Media Manager for Bluepoint would know they are NOT getting acquired is quite comical. Wouldn't be a shock to see an announcement later today.
I think the summary here is that the big games from Sony got delayed until 2022 and they are trying to fill the void.
They've tied what was essentially a separate DLC to the base game to make extra money and make these games seem 'new' and 'exciting', whilst being able to charge £70 to new customers rather than people picking up a cheap pre-owned copy and getting a potential 'free' upgrade and perhaps not buying the DLC. You know full well this is will be the scenario with Death Stranding Directors Cut as well.
I can see the business sense, because Sony literally only have Horizon FW as THE only first party title for the rest of the year (that we know of), so they'll want to maximise profit, but it's a very anti-consumer tactic.
Good article and it's about time we, as loyal paying fans, start being more vocal and take the blinkers off, that we aren't happy with these money grabbing practices from Sony. How can your slogan be "For the Players" when it's anything but that? Imagine if the recent Doom Eternal upgrade charged you $30 to upgrade because they'd tied the DLC to the base game and called it a 'Directors Cut'? We'd be raging!
Sony just keep tripping themselves up. All they had to do was offer a free PS4>PS5 upgrade, and then make the new island paid DLC. Job done. Everyone is happy.
Instead, they've confused a vast majority of gamers and media outlets thinking the upgrade to PS5 is $20 when it's in fact $30.
I love my PS5 and I love the exclusives, but this is just getting silly now.
@Rob_230 Well, it was AMD's tech called TressFX, but the Tomb Raider 2013 PC game was the first to use it. And they created a modified version called PureHair for Rise of the Tomb Raider. So it's all open source tech they've used, but obviously still takes talent to implement.
This screams to me as acquisition in order to ensure PC ports of PS4/5 games with relative ease, taking the pressure of the actual game dev team that won't be overly familiar with PC ports and freeing them up to continue on other projects. Nice business sense to expand to PC.
Hopefully Sony are now realizing how much of a ball ache the whole process was beforehand. I had to literally explain to my friend how to transfer his save over to FF7 PS5 version and even how to download the PS5 version. LOL
@Olmaz The way I'd describe this game is a love letter to older and arguable better Bioware games such as Dragon Age 1 and 2. If you enjoyed those, then this game is for you. Just get passed the rather boring prologue and let the map open up, then it becomes a much better game. It's also priced fairly considering this is not an AAA blockbuster.
I can understand if the game is not for some, but I found it a solid RPG and enjoyed my 30 hours or so with it bar the technical issues (poor framerate).
Great game if you are a fan of the older Bioware style games. Was a bit janky and had performance issues when I played on last gen, but I really enjoyed the game overall. Well worth the time if you're a big fan of the western RPG genre.
Just a shame Sony haven't sorted PS Now out for the free PS5 upgrades. Greedfall is in there and should be getting one. PS+ I can understand not being entitled like with other games.
@MakersMark Unfortunately I don't think they care about the original fanbase. If they did, the wouldn't be about to ship the same GTA game across what will now be 3 generations of consoles (PS3, PS4, PS5).
I honestly think GTA as we know it is dead. GTA Online is the money maker and I could honestly see the franchise going the Fortnite route and being solely focused on that the online element rather than a big budget single player campaign.
All I can say is good luck to Blooper. They have the talent but they've never had the budget, so hopefully Konami are helping them in that department.
And I just hope the Japanese dev on the other Silent Hill project is Tango Games. I know they are now owned by Xbox, but if a deal was made beforehand, it would be multiformat. Imagine a Silent Hill game directed by Shinji Mikami? Oh my...
Not sure how this has turned into a console war debate and some of these comments like "review bomb" are shameful.
The reality is this is probably heavily down to how Sony have poorly implemented the upgrade path from PS4 to PS5 version.
The PS+ version not getting an upgrade I can sort of understand, but there's no excuse for the PS Now version not getting one when Game Pass does. Same issue with Avengers and Borderlands 3. This is where we as customers need to be vocal to Sony to improve the services we pay for to be competitive with Xbox, not slate the developer when the issue isn't with them or blame Xbox by saying "Microsoft most likely paid for the upgraded version to be offered, hence making playstation look bad".
@Angelus3K We didn't get PS5 versions of Avengers or Borderlands 3 on PS Now unfortunately. Must be a contractual thing or maybe an issue with how PS5 upgrades are handled?
I just pray that this is a FF7 Intergrade situation. Ie this 'Director's Cut' is the bundle with the base game and expansion, meaning owners of the PS4 base game get a free upgrade to the PS5 version and then can buy the expansion if they want, like with the Yuffie DLC.

@dellyrascal How does that work? Getting tired of Sony ripping us off in the UK. Do you just set up a US account somehow, buy the game on that, and you can play it from your UK account?
A solid 8/10 for me. Graphically outstanding but nothing that sets the genre alight in terms of action platforming. Still one of the best PS5 exclusives available though.
The original was my personal GOTY for 2020.
Loved every bit of it and crazy how they pushed so much detail and effects out of the PS4 and the Pro.
So I'd be VERY excited to see what they could do on PS5 before we hopefully get a full sequel.
I just hope it's priced fairly.
@WolfKingk87
Think it took me about 11 hours to do the campaign plus all the extras for Miles Morales.
If you just did the campaign, then it probably would be 7-8 hours.
Tempted by Returnal at that price, but did they ever sort out a decent save system or is that still up in the air? I don't have the time for 2-3 hour runs, so that, and the £70 price, is what put me off the game originally.
A very rough game, but I still enjoyed it non the less. Reminded me a lot of the older and arguably better Bioware RPGs. Not sure I'd be interested in replaying it again though.
@Rafie Yes. Project Athia was the project name until they announced it as Forspoken earlier this year. Obviously 24 months is double the usual length for Sony timed exclusives, so it must have cost them quite a bit to secure.
@Rafie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KROCZ1q4OE&t=37s It's part of this trailer here with the small print at the bottom. "Not available on other consoles until at least 24 months after release date"
Same trailer tells us Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo are 12 months console timed exclusive.
@ThomasHL I highly doubt we'll see day and date PC ports like with Xbox, but I think we could see games with a minimum 2 year time gap. Where is the harm in making a PC port of a 2 year old onwards game where sales have dried up for on console?
PC gamers don't tend to bother with consoles anyway, so they aren't going to suddenly buy a PS5 to play a sequel, but they are a nice extra revenue stream for Sony to make a tidy profit off an older game.

It's part of this trailer here with the small print at the bottom.
"Not available on other consoles until at least 24 months after release date"
Same trailer tells us Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo are 12 months console timed exclusive.

If you think 80 is "ok", then you mustn't play many games!

@Total_Weirdo
24 month timed exclusive for console.
PC release is day and date with PS5 I believe.
Re: Sony Expects PS5 Sales to Skyrocket Once Supply Demands are Met, Aims for 22.6 Million Units Per Year
@ThomasHL
I highly doubt we'll see day and date PC ports like with Xbox, but I think we could see games with a minimum 2 year time gap.
