I've tried many times and just can't get into The Witcher. Last of Us 2 I've completed 3 times and stopped on my 4th to wait for the PS5 upgrades.
I will give Witcher 3 another go, especially now on PS5 it may improve performance and load times, but I haven't yet seen why it was regarded so highly. My loss though

@Zombie9ers wow. Just wow. Internet will implode. On one hand LOU2 having most awards will upset 'that' crowd, but then Witcher 3 losing its crown. Will people be okay with this now CDPR are no longer loved the same way......

Back on topic - I'm looking forward to this - only because it will be free for me and no reason for it not be a good game.
Just platinumed Man Eater which was seen as an average game, but absolutely loved my time with it. Hoping this will be at least that type of game.

Have mentioned in the past but Bloodborne was impossible and I wanted an easy mode. I'm not the more skilled of gamers and would champion an easy mode. That was until I figured it out and ground up the levels until my lack of skill was aided by being a higher level. Now Bloodborne is one of my favourite games ever and I'd now argue against an easy mode. Dying is not always a problem but a way to learn how to solve a problem. Especially on PS5 where the loading is so quick.
Now I can't wait to pick up Demons Soul once its a realistic price.

I do think Game pass is massively over estimated. When i looked at the games I played last gen against what came on game pass, I would end up payer thousands of pounds more to have had game pass and still play PS exclusives. The only way it will save you money is if you don't have an interest in any major third party games or Sony exclusives.
Saying that I will be getting a series X and game pass as I think the service will improve massively through this generation, including all the Bethesda games that I probably wouldn't have bought without game pass - especially now most will be exclusive to MS.

@TheRedComet I'm with you there. I still think Last of Us 2 looks better than anything I've played on PS5 but damn I love how quick everything loads.

I still don't understand if 99.99% of users (basically anyone who doesn't magnify single frames like DF does) can't tell the difference between these resolutions then why bother. Why not just focus on the game for improvements rather than the resolution? I'd argue that Zelda BOTW is the best game last gen (and if its not its not far off) yet that resolution is nowhere near 4k.

@BAMozzy Yeah I agree that DF do seem quite neutral. It is strange there is such a difference between the two resolutions considering PS5 can obviously do more as it doesn't ever drop a frame while the X has its moments of stutter keeping to 4k.

I actually would rather games came in lower resolution - whatever that has to be - if it meant more 'action' on screen. An example say NPC count/AI quality. If this was compromised to ensure that a console can reach 4k output I would be disappointed. Haven't bought Cyberpunk but if it stays as an empty game with no atmosphere, odd AI and transporting police I will never get it. It sounds terrible. Even if that garbage happened in 4K. If, however it was a high quality game in 1080p it wouldn't stop me getting it.
I'm no expert but I do hope quality of game isn't compromised just for resolution.

@BAMozzy I'd disagree on the headline being different. So far PS5 has beaten Series X for performance on all multi plat games, including hitman. Just the resolution being different here. All the other DF videos I've watched have responded equally just saying both X and PS5 versions are pretty much the same even with the increased performance of PS5.
They do come across pretty neutral in general from what I've seen as they don't get carried away with the fact PS5 is performing better in general this generation even though its a less powerful machine, and they don't get carried away with this Hitman review either.
The biggest take from their videos is the relief I didn't get the Series S in the end. MS Saying its just an X at 1080p is a straight out lie. Who knows what will happen further down the generation line. Will the differences grow?

@nessisonett, @JAMes-BroWWWn I made £100k last year but my mate made £120k and spends all his time calling me a failure. Sure I had a great time last year but that doesn't count really does it. I bought myself a new Audi TT. Beautiful it was, until my mate bought 2 of them so now mine is rubbish. I'm so depressed now.

What an odd mix of teams. I look forward to City spending another £200 billion over what they bring in and say they received it all from a Fortnite deals but lost the receipt.....

Bethesda do wind me up sometimes. They have potential to make amazing games but are just ruined by game breaking bugs everytime. ES and Fallout get me everytime and somehow I never learn!
Actually - with every game being given away with game pass and less money being reserved for the work I can't see the quality getting better - arguably it will be worse, but I'll give MS the benefit for the time being. Maybe they can sort that team out to employ testers for once

@naruball Personally I'd be happy if they just added 20 more tracks for £10 every couple of years. There's not really much going to change between 8 and 9 and its not like they need a graphical upgrade.

I'm hoping for a sci-fi time travelling thriller adventure. Unchartered through time. Get Christopher Nolan on board and score by Hans Zimmer and bam best game ever guaranteed...

@ScottyG I'm the same. Got Sackboy because I wanted more quick light fun, platforming. Hasn't disappointed, especially multiplayer with the kids.

@Dezzy70 yeah, there's stock at currys (UK store - there was when I looked and it was a day after stock came in) with a discount as well as an additional discount code on top. I almost bought one just because of the low price, even though I know I don't want the S. Crazy to think they are struggling to sell a next gen console even with discount! Why bother making any more of them with such a shortage on the X?!?

@Hyperluminal, @Dezzy70 There always seems to be Series S in stock. I'm trying to get a Series X but can never find one while been able to buy S at many times since release. Just isn't as sought after as the other machines. Annoying as they may have been able to double X orders otherwise

@LordSteev Yeah the trick is once you die you make sure you get a weapon before you return to the beast.
The rest of the game is all about learning how each enemy behaves and accepting you will die a lot while figuring it out.

Regarding the load times, yes they are massively better and definitely not an issue at all. Just the range of hating on this game for wasting my time and money, to being one of my favourites ever makes me want people who struggle like I did to get through it. The reward has been massively worth it.

@LordSteev I'm with you here. Bought it because of reviews and could never get passed the first werewolf. Gave up and was annoyed at all the praise for it thinking there should be an easy mode. Tried again years later and was the same.
After buying the PS5 I tried it again thinking the long loading times would disappear and I have to say, it took a while but once I got passed the first monster it slowly grew on me and is now the game I voted on this list. I love it. Yes its hard, but its not evil, you just need to persevere.
And I finally get why it shouldn't have the easy mode as it would lose something in the process. The joy I felt after finishing the first boss wouldn't be replicated if I could just walk through the game without dying.

@2cents nope, drew the line at £20.
But even if it was £10 being too much, games were £40 - £50 new last gen. Going from £50 to £70 is a 40% increase which is beyond crazy so yes that line is easily drawn.
And you have to remember this isn't to buy a single game. Must have about 100 games bought last gen at least. Paying an addition £20 for each game is an extra £2000 by that logic. I just cannot afford that on top of what is already being paid.
Without buying games £20 or under my games list would be more likely 10 games strong at best.
I pay a decent chunk of money to gaming, but if they were all £70 then all my money would only go to Rockstar and Naughty Dog games, because I know they are high quality. There would be no way I'd take a chance on a game like this otherwise. Especially with the higher likelihood of it going to PS Plus than the next GTA or Red Dead.
Simplest example is I have 2 games for my switch and I paid full price because I had no choice. Mario Kart and Zelda. Because of the amazing sales on PS I can expand my library and spread my money across multiple devs and not just the big guys.

Looks good but I'm another one who will throw my hat in the ring and say I will never buy a game at £70 ever. It also does have a PS Plus feel to it and that may cause me to hold back and wait even longer than the usual sales.

Yep lockdown hit us like %^&*( slap. Had a couple of hours to sort out screens for the kids so panic bought the cheapest chrome books I could find. There was only 1 left at John Lewis and I got it. Wish I'd have known this PS4 option first though.
We have 2 primary school kids and me and my wife work most hours of the day. Its a complete nightmare, but I also understand it. Its not just about Covid. Even with massive lockdown the hospitals are full and all non Covid procedures are being stopped such as Cancer treatments. Its not just about Covid deaths but all other deaths that happen without a healthcare system to help out.
Regarding the mental health fallout - yes its a problem but possibly one everyone should do their part to help out, however that may be.
How about setting up a huge Push Square gaming meet every week to help with keeping people socially active? I suppose even if it helps just 1 person it would be worth it?

Never played this but came here for the 90% of comments being about why this list is rubbish because LOU2 shouldn't be number 1. Or if not number 1 if its higher than GoT and if not then because it exists and offends everyone.
Do people realise every single article is commented about Last Of Us. More than any other game I've ever seen. That alone should give it Number 1 in this list. Everyone is obsessed with it - for good or for bad. What an incredible game to be able to do this.
Anyway FFVII - I will play this one day but probably in the future alongside part 2. The half a game bit does put me off a bit but no idea if it should or not.

Waiting on the Cyberpunk upgrade for PS5 but if the Ai is always this bad even after the upgrades I won't bother. If the cities aren't filled with people and cars, I won't bother. It all looks very lifeless and would stop my buying it. I just can't understand how it could be seen as okay with such an empty environment.

@JamieO remember that same train in the late 80's, early 90's. Spent a lot of my youth in Southport arcades in those days - Street Fighter 2 my biggest obsession.

Not played the TH games but can agree with your number 1. Playing Bloodborne as part of the Plus Collection and love it so much I'll definitely be getting Demon's Souls - and probably anything else From Software releases

@wiiware bit unsure which game you mean but can't be LOU2 as that out sold virtually all games this year and confusingly Ghost also had drop off in sales after 1 month so I guess you probably don't want that to win either. Do you mean Cyberpunk as I think it's now up to 13 million sales even with the mess it's in.

I don't understand LOU2 haters going for their sales figures? They are shockingly good sales - in the top 10 for the year across all formats. Would be good figures for a multi plat game let alone a single console game? There must be something else they can go for? Perhaps they had a poor sales day on 17th October 2020 and aim for that instead?

I will never ever buy games at £70 even if they are great. Unfortunately I have a mortgage, bills and a brain. I will always wait until the sale brings them down to standard prices.

Perhaps this is how Sony plan to do pricing going forwards. Day 1 adopters pay a premium, week 2 pay a little less and so on.

Unfortunately its more likely the pressure from the boardroom to ensure the shareholders earn money because at the end of the day they are the only ones that truly matter to a company, and all that matters to shareholders is money.
In most cases is has nothing do to with pride in something the company produces or respect to the workforce that slave away through crunch after crunch to ensure those shareholders earn their money for doing f all work.
They just want their dollar in their pocket.

Going to play devils advocate and believe the devs make a game to be played the way they want it to be played. Then if people out there just want an arcade version where they blast through it then fair enough, people can buy the 'cheat' version. So long as the main game is the way it is meant to be played then great.
If they get that bit wrong then people just won't buy their game anymore.
Personally I would never buy the upgrades as it technically ruins the purpose of the game - but completely fine if by doing this they get more money and larger audience and that can then go back into the next game.

PT - the full game. I'd even settle for just PT the PS5 upgraded version so I can finally sell my PS4 Pro.

As bad as this release has been I still feel it will be fine in the end. I'm waiting until everything is cleaned up and updated for PS5, and will probably buy for half the price. When I get round to it it'll probably be the best game I've ever played. I'm just hoping CDPR are planning to put in a proper shift on this post release to get their reputation back on track, otherwise they could go the way of Bethesda if they aren't careful.

@Voltan Is PC classed as current gen or last gen? I find it amusing when people say a game should be played on PC or saying PC is the only way to play. Spent £1000 building my PC a while ago now and there is no way my PC would be classed as current gen. Wouldn't be surprised if it couldn't even run Cyberpunk. And I won't be spending another £1000 either to get it running or £2000 to play how it's meant to be played!

@get2sammyb hit the nail on the head there. We are all losers in this situation. Hopefully the hackers get caught and also lose. Well done Capcom for not bowing to their demands. I feel like I might purchase RE8 just to back their stance.

Surely if NPD sales for 2020 is all platforms then Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima being 5th and 6th is an amazing achievement against multi plat juggernauts like Fifa and Assassins Creed.
Also love that there are 4 single player games (5 if you include Mario?) in the top ten.

@AdamNovice agreed. I really like the look of this game, but I cannot buy every game that looks interesting at full price. I may buy the odd game here and there, which usually will be sequels as I know what I'm getting.
Unfortunately this fuels the constant sequels and lack of new IP's which I hate but am part of the problem.

@themightyant I'm with you here. Walking simulators are terrible by name but some of my best gaming experiences include Dear Esther, Gone Home, The Stanley Parable, Everybody's gone to the Rapture. Loved the music so much from Dear Esther and Rapture I went to see Jessica Curry live. She didn't turn up (ill) but those games left as much of an imprint as most 'proper' games last gen. Bring it on!

So happy this game won as it was an absolute masterpiece for me. Perfect end to the PS4 era. Played through 3 times and will play again on PS5 eventually. Would be interested if they ended the trilogy with some sort of happy end. As mentioned above, the first is about love, the second about hate, perhaps the third will be hope.
Although saying that would love a new IP from them. They've done action adventure, they've done horror, how about sci-fi...

Have to say had no idea about this before but looks absolutely my kind of game and without doubt will be on my purchase list. 2021 is going to be a difficult year to play everything I want. A great problem to have really.

Christopher Nolan...please tell me he's writing a new Sony game. Would be even more amazing than say Guillermo Del Torro writing a video game....sigh...

@Katsuhono My thoughts exactly. Really hope they change up the location or it'll feel too much the same. Although if they were to do some sort of spiderverse which allowed for completely different takes on New York to lix things up. Chance to show off the PS5 load times by being able to instantly move between dimensions without any load times...

I personally thought LOU2 was as good a game I've ever played while still finding the 'middle' section difficult to accept at first, but I won't be lying if I say I can't wait for 2021 and people to stop talking about this game! Until they bring out a PS5 remaster that then goes and wins all the 2021 awards!!

Haven't played GoT yet but absolutely loved LOU2.
The arguments between the two feel very odd. Some people didn't like LOU2 but have made it their mission to pour so much hate onto it they would probably cut off their finger to make people dislike it. I don't understand why but it feels like it means more than just a game they didn't enjoy.
Defenders are extreme the other way to defend what doesn't need defending. If people don't like this game - they lose. They missed out on enjoying a great game.
I'm in that boat with Witcher 3, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption. Games discussed as the best of all time. I didn't like them too much and could spend my free time spouting hate onto websites to try and make other people dislike them, but in truth I'm the one who loses.
I really wish I loved them a much as everyone else and feel gutted, not angry, that I don't.

BUT think of poor MS fans who don't own a PS4 having to watch Sony fans go at each other over which game is GOTY. They're probably thinking how they wish they could argue over 2 amazing games and which one is possibly fractionally better than the other....

Haven't played Demons Soul but she gives me the impression I'll breeze it with a pad, although it'll just make me more frustrated if I ever get to play it knowing she did this.

Now this is weird concept of having to update the PS3 to keep watching movies. I had this problem back in the day when I bought my dad a PS3. He lives out in Spain and didn't have internet at home back then. One day it just stopped playing his blu-rays and being useless with technology had no clue how to fix it.
Solution was to buy a USB dongle, go to internet cafe, go to Sony site, download the update file and store it in a specific folder structure, then go through the upload process on the PS3.
No chance he could figure that out himself! Do all stand alone blu-ray players have this issue as well?

LOU2 reminds me of Game of Thrones. They ended one of my favourite characters from season 1. How dare they do that. They should have just had everyone living happily ever after, because that's the impression I got when I heard it was about kings, queens, brutal deaths, sex, dragons. #Outrage
Yes everything else about it was technically brilliant, it left me guessing where the story would go, so in turn I found it thrilling - but after season 8 I refused to watch any more of it - and now it's on sale cheaper than yesterdays newspaper so I was obviously right. #teamsprouthatebecauseIdidn'tlikeit.
Right now I'm off to the Lion King homepage to spread more rage - didn't like what they did to Mufasa!
