Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Slated for Adding Sinister PS5 Microtransactions at Launch

StonyKL

This has the potential to stop me getting the game. I loved GT7 but trying to get all the cars in the game became too much of a slog and were obviously designed to only be realistically achievable with micro transactions. I've slowly learnt that 'can be got in the game' means 'spend your entire life in the game you may get it'.
That being said it may not affect DD2 in the slightest, but without spending 100 hours in the game how would I know? On my experience with micro transaction games its a massive turn off.

Re: Reaction: What Is Happening to the Video Games Industry and Why Are There So Many Layoffs?

StonyKL

The whole purpose of the gaming industry is to make the shareholders money and then to make them more money the following year. If that doesn't happen then the guys at the top get replaced. Therefore they get desperate at making quick bucks wherever they can.
The industry is a very high risk one, like the movie industry where the majority of the work is done and paid for without guarantee of the rewards and the life cycle of the game can't really be scaled up most of the time, in the way perhaps an episodic game could potentially be.
Throw into the unstable industry GamePass and probably to a lesser extend PS+ and a section of the public are turning their back on game sales (I know I am) with the risk the game will come 'free' to the subscriber service.
AND with subscriber services hitting peak there is no 'growth' shown to the investors so we circle back to the panic mode at the top.

Thats my guess at part of the problems?

Re: Rise of the Ronin Gets Loads of New PS5 Gameplay Footage, Featuring 8 Different Fighting Styles

StonyKL

Is it wrong I'm disappointed with the lack of environment interactions. The waves look PS4 while the guy thrown into the water doesn't even make a splash, and the sand is solid? Guess thats why games cost too much to make these days!
I still haven't played GoT and I have it in my library. Why didn't I just download that instead of buying RE4, RE:Village and Little Nightmares 2 in the sale #smh

Re: Silent Hill: The Short Message (PS5) - There's a Reason It's Free

StonyKL

I'm wondering if this release could have a negative affect on the Silent Hill 2 remake? I can't wait for it but if trash (supposedly, I haven't tried it) like this is deemed enough quality to release, then it's turning me off SH2.
I would imagine they wanted to do something like PT to get the attention on SH2, similarly to how PT made us all desperate for something new, however this has probably done the opposite

Re: Sony Officially Confirms PS5 Has Passed the 50 Million Units Milestone

StonyKL

@HonestTruth Might be a silly question but do you not have a backlog of games? I probably have over 100 games in my library I have yet to get to. I don't have anywhere near enough time to play an additional 3/4 big games a year. Is it possibly worth getting an xbox with Game Pass and/or switch and going through their exclusive libraries?

Re: Sorry Xbox, But Even PS Portal Is Outselling You in Spain

StonyKL

@Stickleman lol my point exactly. Why do we celebrate rich (possibly horrible nasty) people getting more of our money than other rich people? It does baffle me. Especially as I reckon 99.99% of people deep down don't really care - all they want is something fun to play with in their spare time.

Re: PS5 Is Now Above PS4 in USA, While Its New-Gen Rival Flounders

StonyKL

@Deityjester so on the logic that MS makes more money in gaming now, I don't understand why they also raised prices? Surely if they offered their games for £30 new instead of the £70 for Sony game then they might start taking more share from Sony? They now boast about fleecing their customers more than Sony do so they could subsidise 3rd party games as well. It would definitely make me start buying the 3rd party games on Xbox instead of PS?

Re: Sorry Xbox, But Even PS Portal Is Outselling You in Spain

StonyKL

To be fair that isn't how Pure Xbox readers see it. They have just released an article about how its 10 years since the Xbox One days and how they've turned it around.
In defence of Xbox the narrative is that hardware isn't part of their progress but GP sales is. Also they are now bringing in more money with CoD and all things Xbox than Sony.
I guess Push Square / PS fans celebrate more people owning the same console as them, while Pure Xbox readers celebrate the fact one global corporation earned more income than another global corporation.
We do live in strange times....

Re: PS5 Is Now Above PS4 in USA, While Its New-Gen Rival Flounders

StonyKL

Loving my PS5 (sorry @luke88 ) but having MS not longer in the race as a competitor with hardware does raise some interesting questions for me as to where the gaming industry goes.
Positives would be having third party companies not having to spend time and money optimising across multiple consoles and always having PS as lead platform. but imagine if there was no competition and MS ended up owning 75% of gaming studios (which they are slowly getting to). Can only imagine Sony would raise licensing costs massively to counter MS monopoly in software, while MS having to pay higher licensing costs and controlling all the gaming studios could raise game pass prices (and physical/digital sales) astronomically with no other consumer option.

Would be good to see a Push Square vs Pure Xbox article on the pros/cons of this inevitable future.

Re: October 2023 Circana: Spider-Man 2, PS5 Both Chart-Toppers as the Sony Streak Continues

StonyKL

@somnambulance I'd assume the opposite tbh. Wasn't there some stat about how much higher % SM2 sales were on digital vs physical? I also would assume physical sales for games on Switch are a higher split vs PS5 physical sales, considering the lack of storage space.
Going by me as an example (and so obviously everyone else follows the same trend!!) I've never bought a digital Switch game (own the usuals like Mario, Mario Kart, few Zelda, Animal Crossing) but majority of my PS games are digital.

Of course this is massive guestimates.

Re: PlayStation Users to Be Considered 'Part of the Xbox Community', Says Xbox Boss

StonyKL

@pumpkin_head To be fair it's arguable that MS aren't competing as it is. Not having an Xbox in the market wouldn't really make much different as you could still buy a PC with an Xbox Controller and subscribe to GP without noticing anything different. If MS focussed on the PC market in that way I believe they'd achieve more success anyway - and basically compete directly with Steam instead.

Re: Xbox Documents Reveal Staggering Cost of Bringing Games to Game Pass, PS Plus

StonyKL

I've been banging the drum on this for years now but imagine if MS decided to spend £300 million on a new AAAA IP instead of offering Jedi: survivor for a month on GP. We'd still all play Jedi: survivor but we'd also get to play this new AAAA IP on the off chance its a new amazing game. If not, then don't make a sequel and instead make another AAAA for another month! How much better would the gaming industry be for that, and in turn I'd argue that MS would be a much better gaming company for it too.
Edit: Also how many more jobs would that create in the industry and how much better talent and experience would that bring into MS throughout the process?

Re: Xbox Documents Reveal Staggering Cost of Bringing Games to Game Pass, PS Plus

StonyKL

@GrumpyDev But you're talking about a single game. They have about 200 games on there?!? Yes they won't all cost that much but I can't understand how they could not be spending more on the games that are on the service vs the amount they get in. I'd estimate they must lose millions every single month. But like a Man City fan - I don't see why anyone with an Xbox would care about it. I certainly don't think or care about it while I'm playing Starfield!

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

StonyKL

I subscribed to GP for a year then let it lapse as it's just not worth the money for me. There could be a billion games on there but I can only play a limited number of hours. Luckily I now have GP as part of my phone contract so not as bad. Same issue with PS Plus subscription. I let that expire without realising they auto subbed me another year. Won't be making that mistake again!
I don't really see this subscription model getting to the levels MS and Sony think they will - and probably not the sort of levels that justify the amount these studios are costing to buy up

Re: Scorn, the Most Repulsive Game Ever Made, Comes to PS5 in October

StonyKL

Really enjoyed this game until I had to actually shoot something, and then it became a terrible game. Stopped playing it at that point and haven't gone back. Would have liked to have seen it through to the end to know what the hell was going on - but not enough to slog through the shooting mechanics.

Re: Dying Light Studio Techland Set to Be Acquired by Tencent

StonyKL

Perhaps I'm the only one who thinks this but if a handful of huge companies (TenCent, MS, Amazon, Apple or other investment funds) start owning all the studios then what stops them all from offering streaming services only and forcing users down that route like with Apple TV, Netflix, Prime etc. That would result in forcing users to pay £150 subscription for each service. Thinking it'll end up costing £150/y to rent Mario, £150/y to rent Spiderman 2, £150/y to rent Starfield. I really hope that doesn't happen but we all talk of game pass being the Netflix of the gaming industry.

Re: Another 27 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Available to Download Now

StonyKL

And this is why I think long term PS plus/GP has a limitation. Would love to get through some of these games but currently in the middle of Gran Turismo and Zelda TotK. They are my priority while still haven't gotten round to GoW:Ragnarok. And by the time I get through any of these I'll be playing Starfield which will probably be my gaming for the rest of the year sorted! Most of these games will have left the subscription before I get onto downloading them

Re: Now's the Best Time to Play This New PS Plus Game

StonyKL

@Nexozi ah 1993..... the year when Sam and Max Hit the Road and Day of the Tentacle released. What games they were - apart from the sypher codes required to get passed the security making sharing the game with friends a pain in the.....

Re: Sony Estimates Record-Breaking 25 Million PS5 Shipments in the Coming Year

StonyKL

@Jey887 I agree. Why waste money on a buyout just to make the games exclusive when they could spend that money on setting up a new studio and work on new games. Then we'll be able to play both FF and the new game/games from the new studio. Win/Win? I do understand the concern that if Sony don't then MS will just buy everyone until there is no more PS, hence why the more buyouts that get blocked the better in my opinion.

Re: Sony Posts Official The Last of Us: Part I PS5 Gameplay in Extended Look

StonyKL

@themightyant its funny how different we see this.
Last of Us is by far my favourite game and I tried to replay it after finishing LOU2 and struggled with the gameplay. I agree the graphics weren't a problem though.
I'm more excited by this that I am GoWR and in theory could start commenting that it sets a dangerous precedent if studios like Santa Monica are cash grabbing by making sequel after sequel, but there are people who want it so thats great for them.

Re: Gallery: Spot the Difference in The Last of Us: Part I PS5 Screenshots

StonyKL

This really does look much better than the original. Some of the scenes look so more atmospheric and it was pretty atmospheric to begin with. I'll be waiting a month or so for when its massively reduced in price, possibly longer depending on how much it reduces. I only wish I could wipe the 4 playthrough's of the PS4 version from my memory and play it for the first time again.

Re: PS5 Stock Levels Improving in the UK as Sales Jump by 10%

StonyKL

@Titntin I concur. Really happy with both PS5 and XSX but I've now ended my GP subscription which has rendered my £450 box plus additional controller as basically an expensive paper weight while the PS5 gets all the attention with a huge backlog to get through.
Obviously I'll get back to GP in a couple of years or so once the library improves however it is a very strange situation to be in. Without GP i'd be buying Xbox exclusives but can't see the point while GP is there. This is also true now for PS5. Haven't bought a game for 6 months. Really want GT7 but won't buy it as it will end up on a subscription service soon enough. I'm starting to feel this generation is changing my gaming habits. Last gen I would have already bought GT7 and HFW but now I'm patiently waiting.

Re: Rumour: PS Plus Premium's PS1, PS2, PSP Games Have Started to Leak

StonyKL

I have no interest in this service if its focussed on the old legacy games, however the last two games I bought (and at full price I may add) were Turok 2 and Shadowman. And I still love them now!
When my wife came in while I was playing Shadowman she asked if I had made the game!

I think these will only work for people who loved the games the first time.

Re: Deal: Get Great Discounts on Top PS5 Games at Amazon UK

StonyKL

Damn - I'll still be waiting on Returnal, GoT, HFW, GT7 and Elden Ring. None are close to being a 'sale' price for me mentally. Setting the RRP to stupid high only to reduce it to last years RRP price doesn't a sale make. Wake me once the prices drop to £20ish or are released on ps plus/stream service.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Currency Rewards to Be Increased Following Player Backlash

StonyKL

@Luigia Lol! I own both and they both have their issues. I'd recommend not owning any consoles and you'll probably be more chilled out in life. I mean don't get me started on my Switch. Possibly my favourite console but has more problems than any of them put together!
Glad they've started to balance the game better. Grinding is part of the fun in GT but the headlines were putting me off purchasing the game. This helps alleviate some concerns.

Re: Where to Buy Gran Turismo 7 on PS5, PS4

StonyKL

Just too damn expensive for me but in about a year time hoping there will be a decent list of games I can start picking up, unless they stay at £70 for the long haul of course. I'd have definitely snapped this up if £40 on release. May have to buy for my son's birthday as new games are becoming special occasion purchases instead of hobby purchases these days.

Edit: probably appropriate he went to school world book day dressed as Charlie Bucket today!
