The Last of Us 2 GOTY

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has held the record for the most Game of the Year awards for more than five whole years — but it's finally been beaten. According to Game Awards, a site which tracks both media outlet awards and reader's choice awards, The Last of Us: Part II has surpassed CD Projekt Red's genre-defining RPG.

Geralt was previously sitting pretty with a whopping 260 Game of the Year awards, but Naughty Dog's latest has just hit 261, making it the most awarded video game since records began. An impressive achievement to be sure.

For additional context, other Game of the Year winners, such as 2018's God of War and 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, have 208 and 223 awards respectively. In other words, it's going to take something very special to knock The Last of Us: Part II from its new throne.
