The accolade might not be quite as celebrated as the UK singles chart (remember when The X Factor dominated that thing?), but Ubisoft must surely be pretty chuffed with bagging top spot in the UK gaming sales chart for Christmas time. Assassin's Creed Valhalla marks the first time both the franchise and publisher have been in first place for the week that includes 25th December. It moved up four places after recording a 66% increase in sales, while last week's top performer went in the opposite direction. The controversial Cyberpunk 2077 finds itself in third position as CD Projekt RED suffered an 80% drop in physical sales. That is fairly normal for big releases, but you have to imagine the negative press had some sort of impact on how many copies found their way into the hands of consumers.
Elsewhere, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War holds firm for another week in second place while FIFA 21 gains ground in fourth. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales jumps up another two places compared to last week in sixth, while GamesIndustry.biz notes a 374% sales increase for The Last of Us: Part II and 208% for Ghost of Tsushima. That saw the two PlayStation 4 exclusives rise to 30th and 34th in the UK sales chart respectively.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 19th December 2020
- Assassin's Creed Valhalla
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Cyberpunk 2077
- FIFA 21
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Just Dance 2021
- Ring Fit Adventure
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars

CDPR right now

Did developers of anthem or fallout 76 give refunds? Cdpr has my respect
Ubisoft rubbing their hands at the thought of extra people buying those XP boosts.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla deserves it, Cyberpunk should be even lower considering how broken it is and how they lied to their customers to take their hard earned money undeservedly.
As Liam notes in the article, a week-on-week decline like this is relatively normal for titles like Cyberpunk.
I really hoped CB2077 flop would help WD Legion but that didn't happen. It's sad for the game and it deserve more sales.
@YeoSprings
Whats funny i am playing the game now and i haven't touched the XP boots. Same for Odyssey and Origins
I wonder what flopped faster Cyberfail or The Last Of Us Part 2
I am so addicted to AC Valhalla
AC Valhalla Yule missions are a bloody mess. Why release something (even if it’s free) when it doesn’t work? Annoyed I even bothered to try it. But yeah, well done Ubisoft 👏👏👏
@jess3a3 Respect for what? Lying to people about the state of the game, releasing the game when they knew fine well it was a broken mess? You seem to throw around the word genius like confetti when discussing CDPR, I can think of a few that are more apt...
@Gaming365247 The Last Of Us Part II wasn't a flop it sold over 4 million copies in it's first 3 days alone, making it the fastest selling and best-selling PlayStation exclusive launch of all time...
@Profondo management were idiots. Developers are geniuses. Have u played cyberpunk? I have 70 hours. Its genius
@jess3a3 Surely you can use that exact same logic for The Last of Us 2 from your perspective? Your whole schtick is ‘Druckmann bad’ so if he’s management then surely you can say ‘management were idiots and developers are geniuses’?
@Arugula @Profondo
https://www.republicworld.com/technology-news/gaming/the-last-of-us-2-sales-drop-80-percent.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQYaEIh2JSc
@jess3a3 comparing Last of Us 2 to Cyberpunk is like comparing a turd (CP) to a gold nugget (TLOU2) lol
@Arugula That's absolutely false. Anthem was notorious for bricking people's PS4's at launch.
@Profondo I thought TLoU2 was ok. But it sold so well in the first few days because of the success and high regard of the first game, which has sold 17+ million copies worldwide to date. Do we know what the total worldwide sales of TLoU2 are at this point? I’d wager they aren’t anywhere close to the first game. Not that it matters. It’s a divisive game. Some people loved it, some people didn’t. Next!
Just hit 140 hours and 100% AC Valhalla today.
Although not Plat trophy, maybe I'll try for it but I know that 1 trophy is bugged out (Settlement Decorations) already.
@fR_eeBritney I think the Yule Festival has bugged out the game more. I load in drunk after every save/ fast travel, had a max arrow bug and crashed like 3 times over the weekend.
@AFCC did you finish cyberpunk? I finished both. Last of us 2 had the worst characters repetitive gameplay and medicocre story. Cyberpunk has best open world city ever made, best missions in open world gaming. Last of us 2 painful forgettable game
@nessisonett lou2 characters and missions were terrible imo. Cyberpunk missions were genius.
@Gaming365247, so you like tlou part 2 or not because before you were defending it in another article saying uy was your personal goty but now you're saying it's a flop? Me confused
I think people completely missed the point. Yes i liked The Last Of Us Part 2 lets get that out of the way first. Secondly i asked a serious questions but to no ones surprise this starts.
@fR_eeBritney Yes I'm still unable to escort the cow herder back to his hometown. That said, Cyberpunk 2077's buggy launch really makes contemporaneous UbiSoft releases look stellar in comparison, and a more polished entry like AC Valhalla looks almost godly, at least when comes to technical optimizations and QA, when compared to CDPR's overhyped game. Then again I'm playing both of these games on my enthusiast-tier rig, but I can only imagine the disparity to be many times more evident on consoles.
@KPraj I encountered two bugged missions today - one was a main story mission in Oxenefordshire (had to reload several times) and the other was the Missing ale mission in the Yule festival. So frustrating... but I’ll press on. I definitely won’t be doing any more Yule missions after I figure out how to make this one work. I’ve just googled a solution which explains where you need to go (because the markers do not show in-game 🙄).
@jess3a3 They knowingly released a broken game and hid how bad it ran till day of release.
They need to do more than refund to gain back my respect.
@HeeHo game runs fine for me 70 hours in. In 2 months bugs will be forgotten.
@Arugula I had to rebuild my database because of that game. It was horrible. It was widespread enough to get coverage though.
Great for UBi. AC: Valhalla is a fantastic game, in the middle of getting Excalibur.
Still super motivated, it will be 100+ hrs easy.
Thankfully Cyberpunk will get another chance on PS5 and XSX. Console owners should experience the game like we are on PC.
They should just cancel last gen, continue patching but otherwise relaunch in February for next gen
Good for Valhalla as its fantastic despite the bugs and glitches, personally i feel Immortals is the best Ubi game this year but i'm happy Valhalla turned out really good and has done well.
@kohiba99 agreed. Legion is a really good game. I can't for the life of me figure out why it was so poorly received.
Thoroughly deserved, 50 hrs in and still loving this world. If this had been released as broken as cyberpunk people/Internet would've lost their minds. Credit where it's due.
It’s just a shame that cyberpunk end like this, if cdp just delayed it maybe 4-6 month later I’m sure it will be good and the game can be Game of the Year candidate 😕
Also last generation (ps4 gen) sony made a couple of single player 10M+ selling 1st party games, I hope this ps5 generation sony can make many more single player AAA 10M+ selling game too 😃
In our store CP77 dropped by 99%. Actually we recommend only pc versions. ACV is, on the other hand, selling like bread. CP77 is like covid, we all know it is around, but no one is talking about it. Just "Is it really that bad?".
Aaaand the biggest "scumbags of christmas" award goes to...? ... one (unnamed) czech electro shop, that offers great bundle of XBOX series S with one free disc game!!! (XSS is without disc drive) 😉
Reeves voice: You don't say.
@jess3a3 I think this game needs at least 3-4 month to fix all the bugs, their next major patch will be released on february, and we still haven't heard when the next-patch arrive.
I'm still interested in the game but I'll wait until the true next-gen update 😃
I don't agree with tlou 2 comment, in the end gaming is all about gameplay, with tlou 2 I can at least pretend the story doesn't exist and enjoy the gameplay & graphics, but buggy games like cyberpunk really breaks the inmersion of playing games.
@fR_eeBritney whats not working for you? I had no problems with it.
@jess3a3 Kingdom come deliverance is the best open world rpg. Granted the towns in that are no were near the size of the fictional night city but they are based on real world locations in the late 1300's.
And the way cyberpunk city is just smoke and mirrors every building/house in kcd can be entered.
Also every npc has their own home and bed and has their own daily routine were they wake get dressed eat their breakfast and go about their daily chores.
You're literally can follow any npc for a day to see what they get up to. And the Ai is much better in that if you commit a crime you can fight bribe or pay the fine or go to jail or run but if you run you will not be able to go back to that town for a good while. Also the npcs will be more paranoid of you as your a stranger if things go missing and store prices will go up.
In cyber punk 2077 you can kill someone and drive 200 yards and it's forgotten about! I like cp2077 but it's not a top rpg!
@jess3a3 No respect from me they just didnt get away with it they knew they shipped a broken game. And tried too mislead buyers and you give them credit for that what joke. 🤨
@Subsided If they would refund every PS4 owner then yes they could do that. 👌
Yeah re Valhalla yuletide missions tried my first one which was the missing ale keg and has totally bugged out, I had to put the keg down to fight off some enemies and it's disappeared and it wants me to take it to the middle of a field underground far from my brewery. Won't bother with them. There's enough to do in the main game.
There s the question of the reviews. It's not good enough to claim to review the PC version and give it great review when you know other versions are poor and forbidden to show in the agreement. Heck even the PC version was forbidden to show off in real gameplay. Those NDA are not acceptable. Simple as that.
A lot of gamers dont pay attention which version it is or really want to know early. Either way they were mislead by early PC reviews and reviewers would be aware something was wrong.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a bigger mess then Skyrim or New Vegas on the PS3. There is a new bug that corrupts save files bigger then 8MB on PC.
@Flaming_Kaiser the question I would like to know is this in its current state cyber punk looks like a game that was developed in under two years with the compliment of staff cdpr have.
So what have they been doing for the previous 3 years when it went into full development?
Bad management?
Did they have to scrap a previous version and start from scratch?
Something is very wrong here!
It's a shame that this site has become a children's playground.
@jess3a3 🤦🤦🤦
@jess3a3 And yet you clearly can't forget it because you mention it in almost every single post.
😉
@fR_eeBritney Bit of an unfair comparison though between TLoU and TLoU: part II sales wise, isn’t it?
TLoU was re-released as remastered on the PS4 and only reached sales figures of 17+ million when tallying up the totals from both console versions. When TLoU: part II gets remastered for the PS5 and has had a chance to sell on that platform, I’m betting total sales will stack up nicely with the original.
If after all these months you're still flooding the comment sections with TLOU2 hate, you've become a very desperate and sad parody of yourself.
I used to visit this site whenever I wanted to get drunk. I'd take a sip for every wah wah TLOU2 post. Only I got drunk way too fast. So now I take a sip for every comment section that doesn't derail into TLOU2 trolling. I've been sober for months now.
@fR_eeBritney Every time I load a save my Eivor is drunk, due to a bug in the Yule event. Slightly annoying but adds to the challenge of infiltrating a fort if I'm stumbling everywhere and can't aim my bow straight.
@ApostateMage I blame moderators who've chosen to do nothing about it.
@ymagre same, it's just the holiday spirit lol
also: afaik TLOU2 was one of the best selling games of 2020 - I hope they release some actual numbers to shut up the "it flopped hard" crowd lol
@jess3a3
Cd deserve all the flak they get, those games you mention weren't in half the state this is and they didn't out right lie about how the game performs on other platforms and only send out and show one version of the game.
Off topic - tons of new Returnal footage in this video, looks awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORKjhcwQhyc
@naruball
i would think this site didn't even have any, a certain someone would be banned by now on any other site.
@suikoden I think they had a guy with the username Tasuki(?) Could be wrong. He did a decent job for several years. Then the site became more popular and it seems that they preferred traffic over quality, hence several clickbait articles we saw these past months and for which many repeatedly complained.
@ORO_ERICIUS The case of the Missing Ale mission isn’t working at all. I started the mission and was instructed to track down the alleged thief. There was a marker to find him on the map. When I found him and spoke to him, there was no marker on the map to find the Ale. I figured out it was in the nearby bandit camp and managed to locate it and pick it up. The mission then told me I had to return the ale but the marker was in the middle of the sea. I decided to make my way back to Ravensthorpe (which was quite a distance away from where I found the ale). You can’t load the barrel of ale onto your horse so I set off on foot. Halfway there I encountered a group of bandits who attacked me. I put the barrel of ale on the ground and quickly dealt with the bandits. When I went back to get the barrel of ale it had vanished. I’ve read if I return the the bandit camp again the ale barrel will be back where I originally found it and I’ll have to try and return it to the brewery in Ravensthorpe (ignoring the marker on the map which is way off). If I do that the mission should complete. Then I can steer well clear of doing any more Yule missions. I just hope it hasn’t messed up my game.
i pulled the trigger on Ghost of Tsushima.. boosting those sales figures right there.
while big declines are typical for AAA games, not sure they're often that big, and at this time of year at peak buying time, i would suspect this is way more than CDPR would have anticipated.. especially with the amount of TV-advertising they've been pumping out. then again, there are plenty of used copies available at CEX for anybody who wants to pick a physical edition.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L It’s definitely a bug. Im already playing on Adventurer mode just because the game is so long and I didn’t want to extend the runtime any further by upping the difficulty. If was half the size and had a tighter narrative I might enjoy the higher difficulty but it just seems pointless in these padded open world games.
The mission in Oxenefordshire instructed me to weaken the oppositions forces by destroying oil carts and killing groups of soldiers. Only three markers appeared on the map. I dealt with them and nothing happened and the mission didn’t update. I googled the mission and it said there should be a completion bar on the screen to indicate how much you had weakened the forces. I didn’t have a completion bar. I reloaded my game and bar appeared but there were still no markers to show where the other enemy forces were gathered. I reloaded again but it still didn’t work. So I googled the locations and managed to finish the mission. The game is still full of these little bugs and you have to really pay attention if you don’t want to miss anything or screw your completion up.
I’m still enjoying it though believe it or not 🤣
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L Oh bloody hell. Yes that does help thank you 😁
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is an awesome game, enjoying this on PS5
@fR_eeBritney I didn't have any markers for that one either. Just happened to stumble on their locations while exploring (I'm doing everything in each area anyway) and it would say there's a nearby quest. There seemed to be more of them than you need to complete that quest so I thought that was intentional. I did have the progress bar though.
@fR_eeBritney well... like @1_W1NG3D_4NG3L described it .
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L PS4 (Pro) - I thought I wasn’t really that bothered about upgrading to the PS5 yet... until release day arrived and they were completely sold out 😫
I’ve heard it runs much better on PS5. It runs fine on PS4 too 95% of the time but you have to keep a look out for these bugs that pop up every now and again. Especially if you’re hoping to get the Plat, like I am.
Yes I’ve done the ‘working’ whilst playing PS4 thing. Who said we can’t multi task 🤣
@fR_eeBritney ever since completing those Yule quests, loading a saved game always makes Eivor drunk
The holiday spirit was real in 9th century England
@jess3a3 LOU2 is repetitive & painfully forgettable ? 😂 dude you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Anyways feel free to enjoy your cyberbugs 😁
@Gaming365247 What are you talking about?! Did I even reply to that post?
Really enjoyed AC Valhalla so far there have been some minor bugs about 3 times that stopped me completing a quest in 50hours of play. I had to restart the game to fix it, but when it's loading back up fast on ps5 its.
All I'll say for the TLOU2 is I enjoyed it and don't really care if anyone else disliked it.
@Kidfried
Oops my bad wrong person i'll delete the comment.
@grahamd tHe AwArDs ArE rIgGeD aNd NoBoDy CaReS aBoUt ThEm AnYwAy
seriously though, I feel like the hate is mostly fuelled by people who didn't even play it
I'm not saying it's only them but seems to be the majority
With TLOU I think some people may have forgotten Joel whilst understandable and relatable did some pretty selfish acts and also committed some pretty abhorrent ones as well (especially in his past). TLOU2 examined the nature of that cycle of destruction that Joel started and passed on to his surrogate daughter. I don't like it as much as TLOU1 but its still pretty damn good.
And yes story and gameplay and when they are used together in great synergy is when you get the best game moments. I think Ghost of Tsushima does an excellent job of this even if it could be a bit janky in lining up the story with its combat at times. But either way the enemies early game are very easy to beat whilst conforming to honurable samurai, calling them out and beating them with swordplay. As the game progresses you may have unlocked skills to be able to loads of enemies in a standoff but their animations times have considerable shortened so has the timing window. That combned with other way the enemies have scaled rather than just making numbers mean you as player (and I did) start resorting into way more underhanded tactics that make the battles easier actually a lot easier than were when you were being honorable. So you fall to using the easier tactics than following the way of honour. This goes with the story as well and I wish more games did it well. My play style in GoT was completely different to how I started playing the game.
@fR_eeBritney
That's happened to me as well.
I don't understand LOU2 haters going for their sales figures? They are shockingly good sales - in the top 10 for the year across all formats. Would be good figures for a multi plat game let alone a single console game? There must be something else they can go for? Perhaps they had a poor sales day on 17th October 2020 and aim for that instead?
Half of UK’s top sales are Switch games, the other half annual cycle garbage. What’s wrong with you blokes!?!
@Gaming365247 Maybe so but it's not the flop as claimed by yourself. 4 million sales and a further 2.8 million digital sales in 6 months doesn't strike me as a failure.
@fR_eeBritney See above^ nearly 7 million. But of course the first game has been out for a longer period (hence lifetime sales) and the remastered version was also released for PS4. TLOU II still has legs to run and there'll be more sales when the remastered version comes out for PS5 (guaranteed - and to be paid for much like the first game).
For the record I thought TLOU II was a masterpiece. It was technically brilliant and there's still nothing out there that looks & performs so well. It pushed the PS4 to it's limits (much like the first game on PS3). It was emotional, heartbreaking, brutal, relentless and superbly acted and written. Very few studios make contemporary adult video games and Naughty Dog are one of the few to take risks.
@jess3a3 There you go again throwing the word genius around like confetti. Why you continually schill as a cheerleader for CDPR is beyond me, you're even wishing for game journalists to lose their jobs (including those here at Push Square) that's not really very nice is it? (especially considering the current climate). You then claim to hate all gaming websites (including Push Square). If it's so unpleasant for you why do you continue to post here?
@Profondo
@Gaming365247 Maybe so but it's not the flop as claimed by yourself. 4 million sales and a further 2.8 million digital sales in 6 months doesn't strike me as a failure.
Though i did like The Last Of Us Part 2 sounds like like you are "shilling" for naughty dog and sony
@Gaming365247 Really? Seriously, I'm a schill for Sony and Naughty Dog? Because I enjoyed a game and stated it's sales, proving you wrong that it was a flop? Yeah whatever.
@jess3a3 best missions in open world gaming??? What? It's literally "go here, kill this", "go here, pick that".
The world also feels empty, npcs are dumb, cars driving around are dumb..I dunno, it feels way worse than GTA5, Witcher 3...and of course, Tlou 2 gameplay is super tight, the gunplay feels natural, visuals are second to none, music is top notch...it just better, way better. But hey I can list you at least 5 2020 games better than Cyberpunk lol
@jess3a3 Yea.. saying that cyberpunk has "genius missions" and "the best missions in open world gaming" is a bit of a stretch there chief. It is pretty damn generic.
That's not to say that Valhalla's side content was any better, because it was also quite bland.
But by no means is cyberpunk groundbreaking, in like any way. Unless we are talking about bugs, then yes we can all agree cyberpunk takes the gold in that department lmao.
