‘Microsoft buying Bethesda was definitely the most shameless power grab we’ve ever seen in gaming’ I think is the point trying to be made here...
I feel bad for the developers working on these projects. You’re work isn’t going to reach as many people now and that’s gotta hurt. TES 6 will likely never sell as many copies now as Skyrim has 🤷
Like we were talking about in another article it’s always PS in the middle of this conversation but remember Bethesda was good to Nintendo too. DooM, Skyrim, and I think Wolfenstein were all on Switch.
I’ve followed E3 closely since 2008ish, and in my opinion the downward spiral began in 2016.
2015 as a whole, not just E3, was just so stacked with games (Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid 5, Halo 5, probably a bunch more I’m forgetting) that it seems like we got a lot of weak showings in the following years.
I think companies just realized they don’t have to share the limelight anymore on big announcements. That’s why Sony backed out, Nintendo started doing “treehouses” and didn’t even unveil the switch at E3. Bethesda Game Studios and From Software have had little relevancy at E3 for years.
In a world where there’s so much competing for consumers attention why let someone else steal your spotlight?
Edit: also to anyone saying Nintendo had a great E3 please quit believing headlines and watch their actual presentation. Getting hyped for re-releases of old Mario party maps and Skyward Sword? Metroid 5 didn’t make up for that snoozefest!
Can’t wait for the “Day 1 on game pass, $70 everywhere” headlines for this!
Just kidding, but anyways my initial reaction was that it sounds promising. Hopefully they time the release right so it’s not up against Elden Ring (or even FF16 for that matter).
They said in a recent showing that if you want to have the game choose cards for you it will, so you never have to spend time going through them.
This reminds me a lot of the Gears 4 release where they allowed you to buy the ultimate edition to get content early, and everyone eventually got access to it. It’s the right way to go and that’s cool there’s a system to unlock content via gameplay as well.
Outside of PC purchases I will always buy physical copies, so Game Pass getting these games has never really bothered me. I mean your more so renting it right? Sure that $15 let’s you rent a TON of games but you’ll never truly own them like you do with a purchase.
I mean with Final Fantasy 16 coming hopefully within a year, Elden Ring early 2022, and FF Origins being announced today this just seems like a really crowded genre; especially for a game that looks pretty generic tbh 🤷
Kind of a joke it’s releasing in November of 2022... I mean outside of Halo this November there’s not a lot to be excited about in the Xbox ecosystem anytime soon.
That also means Elder Scrolls 6, and Fallout 5, are still many years away. How will those games even run on XSX? Is there a point to getting the Series X at all?
Cannot wait to play through it again. I usually play through it once a year, but I’ve been holding off in 2021 for the PS5 release. I’ve bought it 3 times already; once at full price and twice for the $20 complete edition.
Really surprised this game doesn’t get more coverage. Left 4 Dead 2 was (and still kinda is) an absolute phenomena and in 12 years nothings really taken it’s place for that genre. I could see this blowing up.
If I had a PS4 Pro that I traded in when I got the PS5 this would probably upset me. However considering I gave away my PS4 in 2016 when I built my PC I don’t have a problem with this.
Glad to hear it’s as great as ever! Mass Effect 1 used to be my least favorite but after a 2016 series playthough it became my favorite of the three. Looking forward to going through it all again after I’ve spent more time with TBC Classic and RE: 8.
Looks great, but I need to play the first one still and I am currently waiting for a PS5 upgrade. Sony’s been quietly doing these upgrades so hopefully it’s soon. Would still love an upgrade for Spiderman PS4 and Bloodborne.
I have to admit, I find it funny that 5 years ago when Play Anywhere was announced the sentiment from PS fans was “Xbox no longer has exclusives why bother buying that console anymore.” Now the sentiment is: “I’m ok with this because it’s better for everyone and doesn’t hurt my enjoyment ☀️🌈☮️“
Well, at least some people out there are calling this like it is. Not trying to harp on PS for doing this but the people who lambasted Xbox for doing this should stick to their convictions.
Weird I always heard it needed basic themes for the OS to operate quickly. But no surprise modders are picking up the slack for Nintendo now. Seems like it standard operating procedure for companies to put out half baked products and the fans have to fix them lol.
I won a Gears 3 tournament on launch night and got the Gears 3 Xbox with the game. Good times. Darn shame the campaigns just aren’t what they used to be.
I actually just picked up Volume 1 of the deluxe edition last month. Haven’t been able to get very far into it because of my schedule. I’ve seen the original anime, the golden arc, and some of the new anime though. Great series. I always name my fighting type in Pokémon Guts 👍
Unfortunately until new faceplates come out I don’t see a ton of point in these since we already have 2 controllers. Both would look really out of place next to the all white PS5, controller dock, and 3D headset 🤷
I have maybe put 5 hours into PC gaming since I got my PS5 in November. Between my PS4 backlog and a steady slew of PS5 releases happening I doubt I’ll do much PC gaming over the next couple of years...
Outside of WoW: Classic TBC which I must habitually play without choice😐
I’d at least be kinda interested to try it if there was an official PS5 patch and some kind of bundle that includes everything. The idea of hunting Mothman out in the WV hills sounds fun enough.
Lmao because of my work schedule this gives me an hour and a half after work to come home and play this. I have a 45ish minute drive which means it’s more like 45 minutes, minus a few minutes for unexpected stuff. As a long time RE fan who will most likely be getting this near the launch this demo schedule is really irritating.
Woah woah woah dumb Twitter people aside can we just acknowledge how anti-consumer it is of these big companies to release the inferior version of a game 6 months - a year before the superior version? Reading that Monster Hunter line re-opened an old wound for me with Capcom and Rockstar on that one.
Having the console version release far before the PC version encourages “double-dipping” and doesn’t benefit anyone besides the shareholders. Even when the PC version is taking longer to develop, which is understandable, it hurts the fans to force them to chose between missing out on a launch or paying for a game twice. For most big releases there’s no issue whatsoever with getting a game out on all platforms (or if there is a delay the inferior version comes last aka DooM on Switch) but for whatever reason in 2018 we had two huge releases do this. Capcom is even doing it again with Monster Hunter: Rise coming to PC in 2022.
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Resident Evil 2: REmake, and Resident Evil HD are my favorite RE experiences. Also co-op in 5 is surprisingly really fun.

Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite PS5, PS4 Game at E3 2021?
Diablo 2 resurrected, Back 4 Blood, and Elden Ring are my next 3 new release purchases so that made this an easy choice!
Still need to buy FFVII. Mass Effect Trilogy, and Ratchet & Clank.
RIP wallet 😬
