Relate a lot to this. I've put in probably around 1000 hours in Rocket League over the years but I just wasn't playing anything else I forced myself to uninstall it. Went back when I got my PS5 but quickly realized I was enjoying myself more playing new games, so it's gone again now and I'm working my way through the backlog. Might go back one day but trying to resist.
It's a spectacular remake. I started the Soulsborne series with Dark Souls and by the time I backtracked to Demon's Souls to see where it all began, it felt so cumbersome that I quickly bounced off it after the Tower Knight and went back to replay the other games instead, promising myself I'd come back to it one day. I didn't in the end and now I'm glad, because experiencing it this way is so much better. Just about to complete my first playthrough and I've really enjoyed. Maybe not as much as Dark Souls or Bloodborne as the boss fights are showing their age a little bit at times, but it looks absolutely spectacular and I'm already looking forward to my next build/playthrough.
Very much feeling this list. Trails of Cold Steel is the only one I haven't played so far but I think I'm gonna have to start with the first one and work my way up, which is gonna take quite a while!
I'd love to pick it up but I'd want to experience it in VR and I don't have my PS4 anymore, so I'm hoping that PS5 VR supports PS4 titles when it eventually arrives.
I think it says a lot about Astro's Playroom that, even as a pretty fanatical Soulsborne fan, I was putting off playing Demon's Souls to finish off finding all the collectibles and easter eggs. It's a joyful little game and I'd love to see much, much more of it.
It's a fascinating, albeit ugly saga, that really brings into question the state of games development today. For all of its development time Cyberpunk 2077 has been the poster child for big, ambitious, AAA-heavyweights. Every delay saw countless games adjust their release schedules, every demo looked impossibly good, etc.
But they obviously reached a point where they just had to get the game out there, no matter what. But to me they've ended up as the poster child of the warnings you hear of AAA development being unsustainable. The answer to that is higher prices and/or longer development times, as we're seeing with Sony's first party efforts. If a game like Cyberpunk was polished enough from the off and lived up to all its lofty promises, I could totally see the justification for charging £60/70/whatever. But if we keep trying to cram in genre-defining experiences to the old way of doing things, you risk getting...gestures...this. And now we have disappointed fans and heartbroken devs that have put years of their lives and all that crunch time into making something they truly care about, only for it to crash and burn when it's out in the wild. It's a really sad tale and I hope CDPR can turn it around without demanding even more unreasonable working conditions of their employees.
Crazy, crazy times. 2020 continues to surprise right to the death, and not in a good way. Can't imagine how tense the meetings between Sony and CDPR must have been. Oof.
Logically you'd think that the PS4 Pro would have been the new "base" PS4, but then you'd have a situation where Sony have two 4k consoles competing against each other. So I can totally see why they'd want to make the difference a little more distinct going forward. Want budget focused 1080p gaming with a huge library? PS4. Want 4K with all the bells and whistles? PS5. Anything else would muddy that proposal considerably.
Every day a new headline makes me want to buy this less and less. Hope the PS5 version reflects a more polished final product. I feel so bad for the developers that have poured so much of their lives into this and crunched so badly to get it even to this state. Not their fault and I wouldn't want to villify them.
If ever a game was to be a poster child for "AAA games are too big, are sold too cheaply and cost too much to make", this is it. This model of development is not healthy or sustainable.
This is an excellent review though so far and I think made the right call in being unscored for now. I hope CDPR can fix the issues and make everyone happy as it's clear there's loads of potential, but I also hope it learns its lessons ahead of its next project.
This is the one Dynasty Warriors esque game I'll actually play. Sounds great and much more interesting than the usual template for these kinds of things. Reminds me I need to get P5R as well though!
I'm not going to pay it, but I'm not worried about it. If sales don't take off we'll soon see things come back down to earth. Besides, there's always a way to get these things cheaper. Managed to pre-order Demon's Souls for about £50 for example. Then you can get discounted PSN credit, etc. There's ways.
So, so glad I held off buying the PC version of this. Been really hyped for this for a long time and I can't wait to try it. Get the feeling it's one of those games I'll wish I could forget and experience for the first time over and over again.
It was OK! Decent enough, but I don't think it actually focuses on the awards enough. It has a bit of an identity crisis where it wants to be the Oscars and the Superbowl all in one, and it doesn't quite mesh. Felt a bit of a shame to have so many awards that were just rushed through without giving the devs chance to talk.
I'm tempted to give Destiny 2 a go at long last with the PS5 update. Enjoyed the first game but haven't touched the sequel, so I'll probably hop on it to get through the basic content and then move on. Sounds like the PS5 update has been well implemented for the most part, but it's a shame the haptics haven't been included (yet).
It sounds like the gameplay is really solid, but for me the presentation is lacking a bit and that's where the charm of Pokemon really makes a difference. I'm interested and keeping an eye on it, but not sold just yet.
This is fantastic news, glad I held off buying this now! Once I'm done with Demon's Souls I be picking up both this and SM Remastered and I'm really excited to try this mode out. Excellent stuff from an excellent developer.
After his other events this year I'm not holding out too much hope, but fingers crossed. Won't be watching live but I'll catch up on Friday morning for sure.
Been very excited to play this game and keep resisting the urge to pick it up on PC. I'd much rather play on console so really hope the date is imminent.
If ever a game should be exempt from scoring, it's NMS. It's a very different experience for different people. No problem with the 7/10 score - but people should just understand that if it's their type of game, it'll be a very different opinion.
I enjoyed the launch experience back in the day, as what I wanted was just a chill exploration game that I could zone out with and enjoy some pretty vistas. It did outstay its welcome eventually but I was happy with what I had. The updates though are absolutely astounding, and has breathed new life into the game for me alongside the amazing PS5 visual and performance upgrades.
That's the one criticism of the review I have, that it could possibly contain a rundown of some of the major new features and showcase their potential a little bit. I think if I was coming in to the game fresh but was unsure about it, I'm not sure this would have helped me make my mind up one way or the other. But, the argument there is that there's plenty of other places to get that information too.
I'd much rather a late review that really gets down into the nuts and bolts of this game than one that's barely scraped the surface to meet the embargo. Got plenty of other games to play right now, I'll revisit Cyberpunk in 2021 when the PS5 version is here and people have had time to really get into it.
I'm leaving Cyberpunk for a good few months at the very least, until the PS5 version is ready. It looks incredible in so many ways, and very questionable in other areas, like representation for one thing. Going to hang back and wait for the long-term reviews, where people have spent 100+ hours in the game and have had time to digest it. Then I'll have a look at all the opinions and decide whether I give it a shot or not. We'll see.
My most realistic prediction would be a new trailer for Elden Ring, it's past due at this point.
Dream announcements would be: PSP 5G FF7R next-gen Silent Hill Bloodborne Remastered Spider-Man 2 would be amazing to but think it's massively unlikely with MM only just on the market.
Very cool to see some big names involved, definitely adds to the glitz and glamour of the event. Looking forward to it! Just have to avoid all the mindless drivel from toxic gamers commenting on the announcements on Twitter. Sigh.
Really hope that BioWare can turn their fortunes around soon. At their peak they were easily one of the best. DOn't think these departures are a good sign, though.
This is why the decision to go with PS5 as my primary console was an easy one. PS4 had by far the best singleplayer experiences of any platform and as long as that continues, I'll be a customer.
I'm never clearing my backlog, ever. Just isn't gonna happen. So I just keep getting through things as quick as I can and hoping I can get through the very best of them at least!
Great news for Sony, here's hoping they can get the supply up sharpish. Really enjoying the PS5 so far though, had another couple of hours on Demon's Souls last night and it's just so, so good.
Adored TLoU2, not surprised to see it picked up so many awards last night. Congrats to the team and can't wait to see what Naughty Dog will do on PS5!
Also, big middle finger to the toxic minority that continue to mask their prejudices and fuel their entitlement by hounding this game like it took a dump on their hands.

Nice lineup this month, very happy with that. Not sure I'll get round to Greedfall but pretty sure I'll be giving the other two a go.

God, the critics in here are so damn tedious. Have you really got nothing better to do than crap on a fun little end of year screenshot comp? Grow up.
Great work from all involved!
