Re: Poll: Did You Miss E3 2020 Last Week?

Peach64

E3 is irrelevant to most people that get excited for it each year. What people love are the conferences and the announcements, which were never really part of E3 anyway. They all went on before the show opened.

I do think it would have been a hugely disappointed E3 if this showcase was what we got though. It was good, but not great.

Re: Talking Point: Did the PS5 Games Reveal Event Meet Your Expectations?

Peach64

It met my admittedly low expectations.

Ratchet, Hitman, Oddworld, Death Loop, RE8 and Horizon 2 were the highlights. 2 games already announced and 4 that we pretty much knew were coming.

Biggest downer for me is weirdly Spider-man. The released date killed my enthusiasm. Much too quick for a proper sequel. It’s going to be closer to First Light/Lost Legacy I feel.

Also think the console looked ridiculous. I just want a simple box under my TV. Interesting that it seemed like it was designed mainly as the digital edition. The disc drive looked awkwardly added on.

Re: Talking Point: What PS5 Games Do You Expect at Sony's Future of Gaming Reveal Event?

Peach64

What I'd like and what I expect are two different things. My expectations are super low. If i ignore reality for a bit, I'd like some new IP instead of just adding a number onto every big game from the PS4.

Ratchet and Clank could be fun, but I thought the PS4 remake was so dumbed down. It was trying to follow the original, but took so many things away from the story, it didn't really make sense as a stand alone anymore.

I'm eager to know more about what Rocksteady have been working on, although Arkham Knight dented my appreciation of them as a top class studio.

I loved Spider-Man to bits, but just can't see how a sequel will feel as amazing. Honestly just wish it was a one-and-done game and they move onto something new.

A new Splinter Cell would be nice, but I also know we'll probably never get a "real" SC again, and it would be a far more action-orientated Ubisoft adventure.

Wow, I'm so negative! But I also know a really great game built up ground up for PS5 is going to take such a long time to make, it's just not going to be there for the first two years of the console. Sure, things will probably look good, but it took until 2015 for the PS4 to really get going, and I can only see it taking longer this time.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5 Leak Uses 'Mock Logo' Circulated Online, Says Source

Peach64

I believe there's something in this, as they'd definitely be tipped off so they could get some kind of branded products into production, but it took Polyphony 4 years to get a content-lite GT Sport out. Yes, it's a great game now, but that's with years of additional work. They're just too slow at development now compared to studios making rival games.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Ghost of Tsushima?

Peach64

Nope (but none of the no options in the poll are the reason).

2020 is like 2013. Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, GTA V, they were all being held back by old hardware, and soon enough they got released on the next generation where they belonged. I'll be waiting to play Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us II and Cyberpunk 2077.

Re: Reaction: Sony Needs to Show Us a True, Next-Gen PS5 Exclusive After Lukewarm Inside Xbox

Peach64

It’s the nature of the industry now. AAA games take 4 or 5 years of development, sometimes even more. Some huge developers have only managed 1 game in this 7 year generation. Any AAA game coming out now or even next year was started with the 8th gen in mind.

This pattern has been evident for the previous two generations already and is obviously going to get worse as games take longer and longer to make. Even if they could get a true next gen game out for launch, it would be on a console with such a low install base, profit would be near impossible. Console makers can justify this to move hardware, but for 3rd parties it makes no financial sense at all to do anything other than crossgen.

Re: Ex-Splinter Cell Director Reportedly Returns to Ubisoft

Peach64

I loved the original Splinter Cell games. I really liked Conviction and Blacklist too, but they were very different. I wished they'd just created a new Clancy IP for those.

Recently been playing 2016's Hitman and love how that series went back to it's roots after Absolution, but I don't think Conviction and Blacklist were THAT poorly received.

Re: This Time Next Year, We'll Be Playing PS5

Peach64

Not me! Every gen I jump into in later and later. Nothing good comes out in year one anymore, and there’s very little even in year two. Picked up my PS4 Christmas 2016 and don’t regret a thing. You know by that point you’ll have enough gems to kee you going for a while. I love gaming but can’t for the life of me work out why anyone would want a console day 1 anymore. Knack and Killzone Shadowfall?

Re: PS4 Loses the Battle of Black Friday to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch in UK

Peach64

You could get a PS4 slim with Uncharted 4, Last of Us Remastered and Ratchet and Clank for £180 three years ago during BF. That’s a just launched machine and three very recent games. To get new people on board in 2019, they need to go cheaper to hit a new level of consumer.

The all digital Xbox deals were crazy. You could get a console and game for £85 direct from the MS store in Germany.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 300

Peach64

I bought my first house in August and was sitting in some money to blow this week. My 13 year old 32 inch LCD with £30 Logitech speakers has been upgraded to a 65 inch OLED, along with a Sonos Beam and two Sonos One speakers for surround sound.

Been playing the campaign of Star Wars Battlefront II to test it out which might seem like an odd choice but in the new year I’m planning to pick up one of those Phillips Hue boxes that changes your hue lights based on what’s on the screen, so holding a few games like Infamous Second Son back for that.

Re: Shenmue III Is Finally Starting to Look Like Shenmue III

Peach64

Even if they nail their vision of Shenmue 3 with this small budget, people are going to call it a disappointment. People’s memories of Shenmue are how amazing and alive the towns and cities felt all the way back in 2000. It was such a big part of the game. I don’t think Shenmue 3 takes place in any location like that.

Re: PSN Alone Generated More Revenue Than the Entirety of Nintendo in 2018

Peach64

Not sure it's THAT surprising really. I mean, they take a pretty significant cut of every single game sold on the PS Store, and for every game they don't publish, that's pure profit. With 90 million customers out there, that's going to be a huge amount of income without ANY money spent on the product itself. Nintendo aren't going to be making much at all from third party sales on the eShop. All their big sellers will be games they also put a lot of money into developing.

Re: Where Can You Buy PlayStation Move Controllers for PSVR?

Peach64

I got a cheap, brand new double pack last summer when they did the week of deals, just before the World Cup if I remember right. I understand not wanting to produce too many of these thing, but right now, it could actually be putting people off buying PSVR. Some of the best games need these controllers. The PSVR has had such a good year, would be a shame to see the momentum killed off over this.

Re: Soapbox: PSVR Bargain Adventure - One Man's Attempt to Reclaim His Gaming Glory Days

Peach64

People acting like his wife won’t let him play games!

It’s not about that, it’s finding the time when you have more important things in your life. Guy probably works full time, gets home, has to cook and eat dinner, wants to spend time with his kid, then probably do something with his wife like chill out in front of the TV. There’s very little time for games, especially those 50 hour adventures.

I’d probably suggest the writer picks up a cheap PS4 though. Doesn’t have to be a pro. Could slowly intruduce his son into gaming with it. You could treat it like you were a kid again and just pick up the one game every 6 months and slowly chip away at them. PSVR probably isn’t so suitable in his current situation.

Re: Evidence Mounts for Unannounced Uncharted Game

Peach64

Wish they'd just let a series end on a high, instead of getting other studios pumping it out until critical and commercial decline does it anyway. I always admired Naughty Dog for moving onto new things with each generation. Leaving behind Crash to make Jak and Daxter, then leaving it behind to do Uncharted.
