Yes, it’s definitely a PS6 game. I’m glad they announced it. Seeing a map of future releases makes me feel much better about buying a console. This will likely be 2029 at the earliest, probably more likely to be 2030 and PS5 will be old news by then.
I'll be getting it. These mid-gen refreshes are the perfect jumping in point for me as they let you skip those first few years where everything just feels like a last-gen game. Admittedly, the situation seemed a little better when I got my PS4 Pro in 2016 than it does now. 4 years in and all I'll probably end up getting are God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West and Spider-Man 2, only one of which I couldn't actually play already on my PS4.
@SgtTruth That’s not what this is. These games will be on Game Pass, there was never an issue with that. The issue was with the cloud versions, so being able to stream the games through a tablet or a TV without installing them. You will still be able to do that through Game Pass, but now that can be done through Ubisoft+ too, meaning the cloud versions are not exclusives that need a Game Pass sub, which is what the CMA claimed to be concerned about.
Will get this when it goes on deep discount for sure. I have the HD Collection sitting on my series X and play 2 and 3 regularly. Will be nice to go back to MGS.
Pretty low expectations on my end. Can't wait for Spider-Man 2, but I always judge these things, like past E3s, on how many new games are on my 'want to play' list after it, compared to before.
Almost all of Sony's studios are either too early in development on their next game for it to be announced, or we know what they're doing already. A new Infamous would blow my mind, but we pretty much know they're doing Ghost of Tsushima 2. Heck, even if they were working on Infamous, it would almost certainly just be a remake with the way Sony operates these days.
That’s a ridiculous take. Doing the Gold upgrade trick (which MS has a page on their site telling you how to do it), you can get Game Pass Ultimate for £2.90 a month. For Access to over 400 games. 250 of them you can play through the Cloud on your tablet, phone or PC. All first party titles Day 1 and a ton of ‘old’ games.
For me, Game Pass is a no brainer. 12 months of it costs half the price of a first party title on day 1. If I wanted to buy at least 1 game every two years, then GPU is just worth it, no debate needed. PS Plus is a long way from being in the ‘don’t even need to think about it’ category.
Interested, but waiting for a price drop. Got the first PSVR in 2018 for nearly half the launch price and was pretty impressed with it. The Oculus Quest 2 blew it away for me though. Wireless and being standalone was huge for VR, and the idea of having wires again does dent my enthusiasm for PSVR2. You got the best of both worlds too as you could hook it up to a PC for for more demanding stuff like racing sims.
Definitely going to wait. It’s not going to be a mass market product in the same way the Quest did at that price, regardless if it’s worth it or not. There will be hefty price drops in the future.
Collaborating with console makers sounds perfect for Kojima. They will give him the budget to make the game he wants, and not get too involved to make sure the project makes money like a third party would do, as they can sort of write off some of the cost as advertising in a way. After what Konami did do MGSV, I'd be quite happy for him to continue partnering up with both Sony and MS for exclusives.
It will be interesting to see the 'real world' pricing. The RRP is more than GPU, and you also miss out on the brand new games, but you can also easily get GPU for WAAAAY less than RRP by doing the Gold update thing, which MS sort of promotes doing. It's like £3 a month for all that goodness.
I don't pay attention to user scores because of things like this. It's just loud minorities that either boost or crash the score. Yeah, PG/Sony have made some mis-steps with the online and microtransactions, but there's no way anyone can honestly say GT7 is a bad game.
I think it's over two years away. It took them 5 years after GTAV to put out Red Dead II, so even without Covid, I think we'd be looking at least 5 years for GTAVI. That's before taking consideration how much bigger and more detailed the world can be now. Would have be 2023 at best before Covid. Now, 2024 or 2025.
I don't see this purchase being the inevitable end of Playstation domination. Call of Duty is huge, no doubt, but very few gaming franchises stay at the top forever. One major exception is of course sports games, as sports themselves will always be popular, but as we saw with MLB, I don't think there's any chance sports games will go exclusive to anyone.
20 years ago, the yearly top 10 always had a Medal of Honour, Need for Speed, a Tony Hawk. Then 10 years later, they were pretty much all gone. Then it was Guitar Hero, every year without fail, and then very, very quickly it disappeared.
You have to ask, how many people buy COD just because family are asking if they want a game for Christmas or a birthday and that's what springs to mind as it's so ubiquitous. Doesn't mean they'll go and buy a console just to keep at it. Sure, the really hardcore people will, but the vast majority of COD players, same as FIFA and Madden are very, very casual.
Part of me can't help but feel a little amused by it though. I remember being a kid with a saturn who couldn't afford to go buy a console, and my parents definitely were not going to buy me a 2nd one. How horrible it was watching Sony pay publishers to skip the saturn and just be on Playstation instead. The Saturn was the lead platform for the original Tomb Raider, and then all of a sudden it was gone and become arguably Sony's biggest franchise for that console generation.
I don't think it's all doom and gloom like some people are suggesting. I have a Series X, and I'm seriously impressed with what MS are doing, but they were a long way behind PS4 last gen, and Sony aren't messing up to the point they are going to lose tons of customers. Stuff like this just 'evens things up'.
A little disappointed they seem to now only be talking about ray tracing for PC. I could have sworn last year they said it was coming for consoles too. Really makes me wish cross platform progression was in place. It can't be that hard for them to do when it's all always online and linked to their servers. PCVR looks another level, but I don't want to have to start over again.
I loved PSVR at the time, but having now got used to a Quest 2, I don't think I can go back to wired VR for a lot of things. If it's a game I play while sat down the whole time, sure. For stuff like Beat Saber, Super Hot and Pistol Whip though, going back to cables would be very hard.
Oculus Air Link is pretty impressive, and I wonder if Sony could still end up giving us a wireless headset that still uses the processing power of the console in a similar way.
I love Splinter Cell so much, but kind of worried what a modern Splinter Cell would be. As much as I enjoyed Conviction and Blacklist, they were way too action focused, and I bet a new one would go even further in that direction.
This comments section just highlights the fact the PlayStation crowd might not be the best fit for Fanatec products. Stuff like Project Cars 2 is considered Simcade and Gran Turismo is even further along the gamey side of things. Fanatec stuff is meant for the true simulator experiences.
I don’t know about the US, but in the UK game pass is £1 a month cheaper than PS Now. Game Pass Ultimate which includes Gold and PC games is only £2 a month more than PS Now at RRP, but you can also buy a year of Xbox Gold for £35 and then buy 1 month of GP Ultimate and it will upgrade your year of Gold to GPU. That makes GPU less than HALF the cost of PS Now and it’s not like it’s some sale price you have to look out for now and then.
I've only played the FUT mode once, but it's certainly possible to do well without spending a penny of real life money. Everyone slates it because they think the only way to get big stars is to be lucky enough to pack them, but the golden rule of FUT is never use your coins to buy packs.
Start paying attention to the virtual market. Team of the Week cards where the player is from a big league and popular nation will always rise over time due to being useful for SBCs. A lot of these cards will pretty much be selling for 'discard' price during the week they are in packs, if the player is not good in game. This means just spend all your money on English, Premier League based TOTW cards that nobody wants for 10k coins. In a month or two, they will worth 3, 4 or 5 times that much.
Back in FIFA18 I had a ridiculous team. Ronaldo, Messi, legends like Gullit and Viera, plus the rest of the team made up of TOTY or TOTS cards and I never spent a thing on it.
This is really disappointing. I wonder how much the cross gen situation is to blame. F1 2021 and Horizon 5 are in the same position. Will be interesting to see Forza Motorsport now. If it also doesn’t have ray tracing during gameplay then it’s looking like it’s this gens 4K where they made a big fuss over it at the start of the gen, but it took the beefed up PS4 Pro and One X to make it happen. I don’t know if that’s better or worse than Forza having it, and then knowing crossgen might have spoiled the only GT we get on PS5.
I'd have to assume Forza Motorsport is coming in 2022 as well. What a brilliant year that's going to be after both the big console 'simcade' racers being absent for nearly 5 years. Still a little disappointed about GT being cross-gen but hopefully it won't hold it back too much.
I didn't watch it, but the Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine announcements were huge! Those are the kind of things that get me excited over the idea of eventually owning a PS5.
I love it when they announce stuff that's coming in the future. It makes you feel like there's a great roadmap ahead for your new console.
Not really surprising, but still a bit of a shame as it was sort of show off as a 'Launch window' game and now it's going to be 16 months after launch.
It's no less or more needed now than it has been for the last 15 years. Think back to all the great Sony E3 conferences, and none of them were needed. They could have announced those games on a drip feed through the year. These presentations are big commercials, and they would always have benefitted from not all coming together in the same week from the publisher's side of things. You can't say stuff like E3 2015 was not an awesome feeling though? And nothing has changed since then. Getting one game announced every month or so will never feel as fun as that.
Game Pass is too good to be true. It can't be financially viable for Microsoft even at full price, but I doubt many people pay full price when MS themselves readily advertise the Gold upgrade trick. I paid £70 for 27 months of it. That's just insane value for the first party stuff alone.
Not terribly surprised by this. Last gen took two years to get going and as games take longer to make, it's inevitable the crossover period will be longer this time. Big games take 4-5 years, and anything coming out before the end of next year probably started life on PS4 dev kits.
For the last 6 months I've been in a bit of a gaming funk. I've been playing and loving a ton of driving games. Every time I've picked up something else, even when it's a game I was really looking forward to, I keep thinking oh I wish I was playing a driving game instead. MGS V seems to have got me well and truly out of that. Started playing it last thursday and already played an insane 110 hours. I'm nowhere near close to being done either.
I'd be interested. I have zero interest in the Capcom part of MvC. I just hope they make any Marvel fighting game a lot brighter than than the Injustice games. The dark and gritty look might work for DC, but the Marvel stuff should be bright and colourful.
@get2sammyb It’s not really the same though. Sony spent money making this game and can now put a huge amount in the ‘income’ column for it. If they had their own Game Pass alternative, it’s a lot harder to judge how much money the game makes back. A game like MLB would probably not cause the subscriptions to go up very much at all, so it would almost be like you’ve just taken a massive loss by making the game.
Ehh for Sony they will be getting paid a lot for the Game Pass deal, probably more than they forecast the game making on Xbox so you can see why it’s happened. Sony don’t want a Game Pass alternative as their games probably earn more than a Game Pass alternative would. Doing this deal doesn’t really contradict what they’ve said.
I got a Series X at launch, mainly to play Xbox One games (I had a PS4 but no Xbox One last gen). Cared very little for Game Pass before getting it, by bought 2 years of Gold for £70 and upgraded it to 2 years of GPU for £1, and based on that price it blows me away how much value you get. Forza 7 and Forza Horizon 4 alone have covered the cost for me but it also has literally all the Xbox One exclusives I wanted to play, now has all the Bethesda stuff and that’s even before getting to the third party stuff and EA play.
It’s less than £3 a month doing it this way (and it’s not really a special offer price when CDkeys sell 12 months of gold for £35). I understand people want to own stuff, but I love this model, just like I prefer Netflix to buying DVDs. If there’s something I’m desperate to play or watch I can buy it, but most of the time there’s more than enough great content there where I don’t feel the need to be buying anything else.
People love to pile on EA but I totally agree with them it’s not gambling and they have no monetary value. This is rogue customer support staff adding cards to accounts. People who buy the cards can’t sell them on, so they are worthless despite people paying thousands for them.
Starfield is probably far enough along that it will be on PS5 too. I think after that, it's just going to be stuff like Elder Scrolls online, Fallout 76 etc.
I've always felt a certain pull to American Football games despite not really ever watching a game of the real life sport. I remember walking into an indie gaming store right around the launch of the PS2, and it was playing a demo of Madden and I really couldn't tell if it was a game or real, which seems laughable now considering it wasn't HD. I've never got that sensation with FIFA. I think the players being in helmets and padding helps. It's the faces that usually give it away.
Not surprised, and not entirely convinced Covid is the reason. Look how long it took to get GT5 and GT Sport. Even the first game took them 4 years back in the days where good games could be made in 6-12 months.
PS5 would be outselling Xbox regardless, but when both are selling out everything they make, it's a bit pointless to talk about sales numbers. This really means Sony are making more consoles than Microsoft for now.
I don't think the money it's still making is the only reason we've not seen GTA VI. Games take a long time to make these days. It took them 5 years after GTA V to make Red Dead II, so I'm expecting at least another 5 years after that for GTA VI which would be 2023 at the earliest.

Wow, they’ve gone full PS3 Sony. £800 in the UK to get one of these and a disc drive. That’s $1044.

A game like MLB would probably not cause the subscriptions to go up very much at all, so it would almost be like you’ve just taken a massive loss by making the game.
Re: Reaction: Sony Said Xbox Game Pass Isn't Sustainable, Then Released One of Its Tentpole Titles into the Service Anyway
Re: Sony Game MLB The Show 21 Will Be Free with Game Pass on Xbox, Full-Price on PS5, PS4
Re: #EAGate Erupts as FIFA 21 Employee Is Alleged to Have Sold FUT Cards for €1,000s
People love to pile on EA but I totally agree with them it’s not gambling and they have no monetary value. This is rogue customer support staff adding cards to accounts. People who buy the cards can’t sell them on, so they are worthless despite people paying thousands for them.
Re: Bethesda Says 'Some' Future Games Won't Launch on PS5, PS4
Starfield is probably far enough along that it will be on PS5 too. I think after that, it's just going to be stuff like Elder Scrolls online, Fallout 76 etc.
Re: Soapbox: The Long, Painful Path to My First Madden NFL 21 Online Win
I've always felt a certain pull to American Football games despite not really ever watching a game of the real life sport. I remember walking into an indie gaming store right around the launch of the PS2, and it was playing a demo of Madden and I really couldn't tell if it was a game or real, which seems laughable now considering it wasn't HD. I've never got that sensation with FIFA. I think the players being in helmets and padding helps. It's the faces that usually give it away.
Re: Gran Turismo 7 Delayed to 2022 on PS5 Due to Coronavirus
Not surprised, and not entirely convinced Covid is the reason. Look how long it took to get GT5 and GT Sport. Even the first game took them 4 years back in the days where good games could be made in 6-12 months.
Re: PS5 Outselling Xbox Series X|S, Could be Pushing 8 Million Units By End of March
PS5 would be outselling Xbox regardless, but when both are selling out everything they make, it's a bit pointless to talk about sales numbers. This really means Sony are making more consoles than Microsoft for now.
Re: GTA 5 Ships 140 Million Copies, 2020 Its Best-Selling Year Since Launch
I don't think the money it's still making is the only reason we've not seen GTA VI. Games take a long time to make these days. It took them 5 years after GTA V to make Red Dead II, so I'm expecting at least another 5 years after that for GTA VI which would be 2023 at the earliest.
