Re: Here's Why DualSense PS5 Controller's Face Buttons Don't Have Their Iconic Colours

Omnistalgic

@Juanalf Sony's has been symmetrical since the original Playstation. When he says universal, he's talking about Playstation tradition. Why would they copy what competitors are doing when millions of people prefer Sony's button/stick layout. I do think colors would look bad on white, but I'm sure we'll get some colored controllers and have the icons colored again. Grey/Black controllers would look amazing the buttons colored in for example.

Re: PS5 Doesn't Have a Web Browser

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb the browser sucks on PS4, but I used it from time to time. Again, I wouldn't jump the gun on a feature that's lost, this will likely come in a firmware update if it's not available at launch. Especially since its in the menu already of pre-launch units.

Re: Hands On: PS5 Backwards Compatibility - The Good, the Not Bad, and the Ugly

Omnistalgic

With all do respect to the title, there is no bad or ugly here. I don't buy new consoles to ogle at my entire library of games from 25 years ago. There's a few evergreen titles that I been playing for years, and they will ALL be updated to PS5. To me it's about the new experiences. I'm just glad it's fully compatible and everything works, will play Ghost, Sekiro, Yakuza 0 and Resident Evil on PS5, but that's about it. Ready for next-gen and new gameplay experiences.

Also, not a knock to anyone, but it shows how we're kinda entitled. Beginning of PS5 roll-out, everyone was just content with Sony doing b/c for PS4. Now we have it, and even some games are seeing performance boost that are better than Series X (which frankly put waay more effort and resources into b/c) and we're complaining about load/boot-up times. lol...I just can't relate. Some games like Days Gone and Ghost are literally better games now with 60fps. And I'm sure they'll continue to update classics like TLOU or Uncharted, BB etc...eh, I just see no reason to be negative. All the stuff about PS5 I don't like are minor issues (folders/SSD space/b/c loading etc..) and I couldn't be most excited about the launch!

Re: Hands On: Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition on PS5 Is a Stylish Upgrade

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb I don't see how anyone can call DMCV boring lol, but I will put my input in it cuz this is something I'm passionate about, it gets into that 'gamepla'y over 'story' debate (style over substance would fit better here I guess) especially since my man sammyb said he doesn't quite 'get it' either.

First off, DMCV level design IS lousy, it's one of the main critiques of the game, alongside loading, and to a lesser extent it's sub-par cookie-cutter story. What it is praised for, and what many of it's shortcomings are ignored for is simple - the combat engine. Mastering Nero, V(although I dislike him) and Dante is basically the equivalent of learning to play a character well in a Street Fighter game. There is a large sense of player agency and accomplishment over simply getting good at the game which excuses or at least overshadows its flaws. You just can't complete DMCV on higher difficulties without understand the combat engine, particularly with Dante and weapons switching.

As for the DMC reboots comparison and its initial negative feedback (it garnered a lot of goodwill with the re-release), it came down to not respecting the essence of what makes DMC adored. The game initially released at 30fps, and while a more causal person might not notice the community that appreciated the gamplay of the series certainly did. Along with other changes like color coded enemies, easier timing on counters, etc... It took away from mastering the combat, and therefore the sense of accomplishment and player agency for doing so. It also rather overtly, Americanized Dante, in a series that's known for being "anime corny". Having a nonsense whacky story is part of the series' history, it may not be everyone's preference, but the story doesn't take itself seriously. It could be improved IMHO with better comedic writers and storytellers, but I overall don't have much issues with it. This is a game with missions after all, not a ND epic.

Hope I helped clear up some of it from the players that much prefer the original installments of the game over what NT did with the IP. I think level design is universally agreed upon to be a weak point, but hopefully with SSD this won't be the case anymore!

@Caliburn08 https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-10-29-how-sony-plans-to-make-ps5-bigger-than-ps4 That's exactly what Jim says they're gonna do. It's not as glamorous as spending $7B dollars lol, but it's what sustainable and smart business for Sony. To be fair to MS though, they can afford to throw money around like that without batting an eye. I think some of Bethesda stuff will be exclusive, but I'd bet the big stuff is timed and MS will simply market Gamepass as the best way to play these games while offering it to PS users for $70. If everything is exclusive, Sony will likely develop a studio to compete in the WRPG space or as From for another exclusive.

Re: PS Plus Subscriber Milestone Closes on 50 Million

Omnistalgic

Amazing numbers. I think Sony should just roll up PS+ and PSnow into one higher tier package. GP is awesome because of MS first party day one deals, but that's just the months when something really good from Xbox is coming out. PS+ usually is pretty good to me, and they always have good digital sales after games are just a few months old. Everyone loves to talk about value (which is subjective) but PS+ has been pretty valuable to me.

Re: PS4 Sales Pass 113 Million Units, Sony Enjoys Another Strong Quarter

Omnistalgic

@Dr_ENT They will definitely be doing that. Most of Sony's WWS are growing and they are likely looking at partners like Bluepoint and Housemarque to join Playstation. They are not going to outbid MS in acquisition wars though, and neither should they. MS paid 3x as much as Zenimax is actually worth just to snag them up. They were desperate to match Sony/Nintendo's output in exclusives. This does not make any sense for Sony to spend that much money on developers, they already have IP (current/dormant) to keep PS userbase active. They can always grow it sure and bring back some of those dormant IP (Resistance, Socom, Ape Escape, Warhawk), and I think 3rd party Playstation associated brands like MGS/FF/etc...Sony would be wise to try and snag if MS keeps all of Bestheda stuff exclusive. But I would be completely shocked if PS5/Switch Pro are not the most popular platforms again this generation. Sony does not need to catch up to MS, you are looking at numbers of studios before you even see how the market reacts to their gaming output. Nintendo does not have more studios than PS or MS, and have by far the best selling first party content.

Awesome news....my only slight concern now with these awesome controllers is the build quality? Will these things hold up 3-4 years with all this tech inside?

Man, I want mines!

Re: Demon's Souls PS5 Apparently Went Gold Last Month

Omnistalgic

This really is the best Playstation launch in history IMHO. Sony should be given a lot of props for not just relying on 3rd parties this time. If everything announced hits the first year, then even more impressive. Horizon/GT7/Ratchet/DS/Sackboy in the first year is just silly. God of War would be icing on the cake.

Re: Demon's Souls PS5 Apparently Went Gold Last Month

Omnistalgic

@Jysoe77 what sources? Either way, it's graphically one of the most impressive things at launch. If a PS4 version is coming, its more than likely a down-port and will come with significant compromises. Still feels like you are basing this off of nothing, everything that has been shown about Demons Souls state it's a PS5 only game.

Re: DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part One - Much More of PS4's Best FPS

Omnistalgic

Every time I see articles about ES/Doom/Fallout etc...I have to wonder about the future of these titles sequels. sigh...

I'm sorry, I know everyone joked about MS first party not being as good as Nintendo or Sony, but it's completely whack to just buy a publisher and make all their stuff exclusives. I hope this is not what's going to happen as MS just uses these studios to boost gamepass sales, but can't help but wonder with the "case by case" basis comment.

Re: Sony Expects PS5 to Outsell PS4's First Fiscal Year

Omnistalgic

It definitely will, a lot more hype for PS5 than PS4 in 2013 I think. Hint, get off of gaming sites/forums, you'll see all this "mixed messaging" talk is actually nonsense and most folks don't care at all.

Gaming journalism today is just geek soap opera. AKA not real. Entertaining, but not representative of anything.

Re: PS5 Game Returnal Looks Amazing in New Screenshot, Plus More Details

Omnistalgic

@lacerz well this is obviously using their skills in the genre, but still a much bigger scope than what they used to do. Seems like it has a full blown story, other camera angels besides just top-down shooter, and Sony unveiled it as a new "WWS franchise". So I think they have high hopes for it, and want it to be a franchise going forward with sequels and such.
