Re: Death Stranding 2 Officially Announced for PS5

Omnistalgic

As long as Kojima removes or fixes the combat, this could be GOTY...that was my only gripe, and the reward for going off the path and exploring was pretty lame as well. More holograms to talk to instead of hidden secret treasures/rare finds.

If the sequel improves on those aspects, yeah, I'm pretty hyped for it. Already one of the best looking graphical showcases.

Re: Street Fighter 5 Owners Will Unlock SF2 Turbo Free in Street Fighter 6

Omnistalgic

@evildave333 brah, you mirror my thoughts exactly! I'm sure we will both be there day one on SF6, but yeah, it sadly turned into a guessing game and the skill of spacing/reading/yoki and solid fundamentals got loss in the setup play. It's frustrating but, at the end of the day, it's all entertainment. If its not for us anymore, it just isn't. I'll always give the next SF a chance...we getting old man '0) lol

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Could Be the Next PS5, PS4 Exclusive Ported to PC

Omnistalgic

@Sanquine Me too tbh...But really, this is not a jab at Sony. They don't even make that much money from hardware. As long as you are buying their games, I'm sure you are part of the userbase of "playstation"

Although, I'm interested in PSVR so I might stick around with consoles, also waiting years to play some the big games might be enough for me to stay with consoles for the long-term. but PC is great value.

Re: Microsoft Admits Its Games Are Worse Than Sony's

Omnistalgic

Really funny how both companies are exaggerating, but this is just facts to me. I love Forza and early Gears games, that's about it. MS first party to me, are experiences that vanish like a fart in the wind. Nothing like BotW or TloU that comes out of their camp, which is why they are trying to buy the biggest pub in the world lol.

Re: Arkane Confirms That Deathloop Is Set in the Dishonered Universe

Omnistalgic

@PegasusActual93 I think it's because even with Activision under MS, it's not considered a monopoly. They would have to try and get EA/TakeTwo for the anti-trust laws to kick in. It still feels very underhanded because as you said, MS marketshare won't really be earned through natural competition, but just using their wealth to purchase the most popular IP and drive subs. Unless they start giving me Xbox's for free on a sub lol, I'm not going to be okay with how they are trying to make Xbox more popular.

Re: Arkane Confirms That Deathloop Is Set in the Dishonered Universe

Omnistalgic

@Beerheadgamer82 Sometimes I feel like I'm in a different dimension when I see press/users praising this MS acquisition spree. 1) It's not adding ANYTHING to the market and 2) It's shrinking the user base of said games.

I thought developers wanted everyone to play their stuff. Sony certainly has a history of timed exclusive deals and very cozy with SE, but this is just crazy if Bethesda/ACTI/BLZ all go PC/Xbox only. This is not competition. MS is not winning people over to their ecosystem with amazing content or features, it's simply buying what's popular and throwing it onto their streaming service.

Hopefully in 3-5 years everyone is happy with their console. Nintendo has carved out a nice niche for themselves so if 3rd parties all want to sell to MS, then there isn't anything PS only users can do about it if they like those franchises but go where they go.

Re: The Last of Us TV Trailer Revealed, Out Next Year

Omnistalgic

@liljazzy2 I didn't know about all of that. I think TLOU2 deserves some criticism, but at launch with the leaks a lot of it was in bad faith. I'd imagine is was hard to read what was genuine and what was nonsense because everyone thought a trans characters killed Joel etc...

I definitely liked part 1 better, but I do like that ND didn't try and do a safe sequel, I just think it was too long and Joel should've received a "left behind" like DLC.

I also thought more of the studio's culture came through in part 2, some of it was very annoying lol...

Re: The Last of Us TV Trailer Revealed, Out Next Year

Omnistalgic

@liljazzy2 I thought Neil took the reactions pretty well...He admitted part 2 was 'messier' than the first and something is lost with stories being concise. He also admitted the Abby section was not going to work for some people. And they knew it would be controversial from the beginning since both characters were so beloved.

But I'm almost positive this is the original outline for the trilogy. Games just take forever to make.

Re: Gallery: Horizon Call of the Mountain Looks Lush in New PSVR2 Screenshots

Omnistalgic

@LIMA no, they don't. VR is not like looking at a screen, you are inside the world. So each direction you turn your head, you are seeing the world around you, not looking into it from a "window" like a traditional gaming session. It really wouldn't make much sense to put more body parts in a first person experience. They want you to become the avatar looking around, not feel like you are controller the camera for a character's perspective. After a few minutes, you won't notice much of anything but the world itself.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Make of Microsoft and Sony's Call of Duty Quarrel?

Omnistalgic

@jamescrowx I don't like MS because of the repeated history of the company. lol So no, I don't have a problem expressing my bias. All of these corporations are about profit, but nothing Sony or Nintendo has done equates buying a gigantic publisher and controlling hundreds of IP. I'm sorry, it just doesn't. Spider-man is only on PS/PC because Insomanic/Sony/Marvel worked out a deal to CREATE an IP. The publisher Sony did buy, has agreed explicitly it will remain a 3rd party publisher. MS is literally buying 3rd party games they have no hand in creating, and by all intents plan to take them off competing platforms. Regardless of your comments about choice/forcing ppl to Gamepass, how do you equate this with anything Sony and Nintendo are doing?

It doesn't add up.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Make of Microsoft and Sony's Call of Duty Quarrel?

Omnistalgic

From a business POV, I don't like it. You could argue MS already has a monopoly with Windows/Workforce. They are using those funds to buy one of the most popular brands in gaming and intend to make it exclusive. I'm sorry, but if you are FOR this type of move, taking away a game that has been 3rd party for decades, you lack fellow sympathy. It's not just business, not to the consumers, and it's kinda annoying seeing so many people act like it is. It's not normal for a company to have trillions of dollars and be able to buy entire countries at will. None of this is okay, and putting AAA on subs has a LOT to prove before I believe it won't change gaming for the worse.

Hell, the biggest games are going free to play and becoming GAAS so this actually might blow up in MS face. They got all these studios under Xbox already (Ninja Theory, Bethesda, etc...) this is/was just unnecessary and only possible because of MS deep pockets. No, the move does not make a monopoly, but how it doesn't set a terrible precedent is beyond me. MS is just gaining too much control over too many valuable IP without working for them.

And then there's just the history of MS in this industry stinking up the place. Where are the amazing games from Xbox own studios? I dunno, it just feels like Nintendo and Sony have won consumers over the normal way = awesome games. MS is just buying up what's good and forcing people onto Gamepass.

Re: PlayStation Bites Back At 'Inadequate' Call of Duty Offer from Microsoft

Omnistalgic

@Sakisa No, because most gamers don't post on forums and gaming sites. COD is huge, it's been MP for 20+ years, and Sony is fighting for it. Spencer literally compared it to a minecraft situation when a 3yr deal does not imply any confidence in that at all.

So it doesn't matter if you personally care about COD or not, it's a big deal for the industry. And everyone here likely cares to some extent about the industry itself.

Re: UK Government Investigating Xbox's Activision Buyout Further

Omnistalgic

The issue isn't COD leaving, it's COD on a $15 service for "free" every month and $70 on Playstation. We can't know for sure, but a subscription-based gaming market WILL affect development. At this point though, I don't think there's enough negative evidence to block a deal like this, besides the absurd amount of money, MS is saying all the right things, and Sony will technically not LOSE any of these popular IP.

Re: Sony to Acquire Minority Stake in Elden Ring Dev FromSoftware

Omnistalgic

Tea leaves here just seem like Sony know they messed up with Demon's Souls, and certainly trying to help From out in anyway shape or form from here on out. I do hope they collaborate together more because FROM's gameplay is second to none, but they could use some engine help and push PS5 graphically a LOT more. Wouldn't mind a Bloodborne 2

Re: PS5 Is the Only Console Getting Price Rise, Microsoft and Nintendo Have 'No Plans'

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb Pretty good margins is lowballing it. Nintendo actually makes more profit than Sony, they just don't have the huge revenue stream from 3rd party.

Actually this is kinda lose/lose for Sony. They do not have the bulk of their profit from first party titles and high margins on hardware. Nintendo actually sells lousy hardware that never drops in price, and neither does software. They can easily eat these costs because, well it's "Nintendo." Xbox is Microsoft, and they can eat the costs of an entire nation if they felt like it. I do hope you are balanced and do a logical explanation article about this. Nintendo's profit margin is like 30%, Sony's is what 12% or 15%? (Gaming division of course)

Having said all that, goodwill is worth billions, and I do think Sony should bite the bullet on this unless they have some metrics that foresee the future being extremely bleak for years to come or something. At the end of the day, they are still a rich billion dollar company. But this is just a loss for Sony making Nintendo/MS look good, they actually are in very different positions when it comes to the market, and NONE of them are that generous towards consumers. Just take a glance at how expensive 7 year old hardware is from Nintendo (it releases old) and their software prices. Xbox tried to push Gold up by double lol. Sony is very easy to pick on though, making very stupid PR blunders.

Re: Sony Reveals Official PS5 Pro Controller, DualSense Edge

Omnistalgic

@NEStalgia just surveys of what you prefer, yea. I think the other layout may be a tad better for camera movement but I can play all genres with symmetrical. For example, I cannot play Street Fighter or Devil May Cry on Xbox/Switch Pro controller. Regardless I think Sony changing is about as likely as them changing the symbols of the face buttons.

Re: Sony Reveals Official PS5 Pro Controller, DualSense Edge

Omnistalgic

@Dezzy70 I think a lot of studies have been done and worldwide, symmetrical sticks are preferred. I generally can adapt to both, but definitely prefer symmetrical sticks. Either way, it will be a customized option if Sony even released a controller that way, the standard PS controller is symmetrical.

Re: Sony Had 'No Involvement' in Death Stranding Deal with PC Game Pass

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb I mean the game is old, and apparently didn't meet expectations. This is about a whole lot of nothing tbh. It's not even the director's cut and it's still porting to a "PC" platform.

Like who cares? Heavy Rain, Detroit, MLB, there's other stuff published by Sony that appears on other platforms. It's almost like you want console warring to be a forever thing? Shouldn't we be for platforms becoming more agnostic?

Re: Sony Expands PlayStation Homepage for PC Games

Omnistalgic

@GameCollector84 Well, I'd argue that's not how Sony sees PS5 and future Playstation consoles according to MS rebuttals about Call of Duty. They essentially said Sony is only worried about losing to a new business model and is so successful in the traditional console business they don't want any innovative competition. Whether GP is innovative, financially viable for anyone other than MS, etc...is a different debate. But from MS perspective, they are very much accusing Sony of being traditional and wanting software to be sold ala cart just as it always has. Gamepass popularity threatens that and that's why they don't want ACTV/BLZ under Xbox. So at least from Sony's competitors, they don't see Sony chasing a different model. Releasing on PC is something I think makes sense for every publisher that's not Nintendo, and it's a tough road ahead for anyone trying to become the next Nintendo.

Re: Sony Expands PlayStation Homepage for PC Games

Omnistalgic

@OmegaStriver no doubt about that! That would suck, but I don't think it's very likely. One reason, the current PS5 exclusives are PS4/PS5 only because of time constraints and the pandemic. Any GAAS title that's releasing on PS4/PS5/PC is to support a wide audience and likely a developer decision, nothing to do with hardware.

Sony definitely wants cutting-edge titles that show off the PS5. I'd argue we already have a couple, particularly Demon's Souls Remake. I just don't think any WWS is going to compromise the vision of their development just to release on more platforms. It's not at all what WWS is known for. The GAAS titles are a different bet, but I'm talking about ND's next game, SSM title after Ragnorok etc...

Re: Sony Expands PlayStation Homepage for PC Games

Omnistalgic

@OmegaStriver I don't think this is actually valid? PC IS console development, that's what many games begin development on, and are then tested on console. The pandemic is what hindered PS5-only titles as GOW:R, GT7, Horizon:FW, and Returnal were all supposed to be out the first year of launch and Sony was trying to get 25-30M PS5 out there in a hurry and transition the user base over quickly. 2020 got royally messed up because of the pandemic and chip shortages.

So a game only being available on PS5 and PC does not dilute it at all. The two userbases hardly converge so it's more money in Sony's pocket (which again funds more WWS titles) and it certainly isn't holding back PS5 development because tech is always moving forward. Hell even if development is done purely on console, they always have more powerful hardware on hand (PS5 Pro level PC) that they would use when actually developing because it'll be faster and more efficient than the user model.

Re: Sony Expands PlayStation Homepage for PC Games

Omnistalgic

As a Playstation fan, I really wish the userbase did not make embarrassing posts about porting WWS titles over to other platforms. So much research has been shed on these two communities complimenting each other. It's like a household having a Switch and a PS5. It's just different ways to consume games. PC ports do nothing but help Sony's gaming division profit, and that means more games from Sony's gaming division. Everyone who likes PS should really be on board with this.

Re: The Last of Us: Part I's Emotional Intro on PS5 Has Leaked

Omnistalgic

I will just play devil's advocate here and state a more balanced POV. Cash grab? I mean, honestly, so what. This is literally how the entire world works. Every house sold in the last two years is a Cash Grab. Every time anyone puts something on Ebay, it's a cash grab. This is an opportunity for the developers to update graphics to a project, and yes, make more money from it. It doesn't require as much work, it's very low risk and potentially high reward. This is what anyone investing in the stock market is striving for, a CASH GRAB. Cash grab is not evil, and ND doesn't have to be punished for wanting more money out of their studio's hard work. If the game doesn't appeal to you, ignore it! The marketing will likely be focused on new players, new PS5 owners just being introduced to Playstation, and new fans they hope the HBO show creates.

TLDR: Not everything is for us enthusiasts, and we aren't entitled to releases of all AAA curtailed to our particular wants and desires. Yes, I've played and bought the TLOU twice already, if the gameplay isn't different enough it's a skip for me. I don't have an ounce of animosity toward ND for doing the project.

Re: Soapbox: I Tried So Hard to Like Elden Ring, But I Just Couldn’t Do It

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb this is me, I loved ER but felt exhausted by end, and I agree that it felt rinse/repeat with some bosses I genuinely hated. I think wide-linear is the best type of genre for FROM, some of the magic was lost in this giant open world. No desire to get the Plat or return, but I put in over 100 hours, so its still a classic in the end, just not my favorite FROM game.

Re: PSN Licence Issues Seem to Be Fixed on PS5, PS4

Omnistalgic

Yup, still loving my digital collection and not having to store hundreds of cases. I didn't run into this issue but glad it was resolved quickly. Not knocking anyone's choice, but digital IS super convenient for me and I don't plan on ever buying physical again. These issues where I'm not able to play something have been extremely rare for me, and hardly ever causes heartache.
