Re: Interview: Media Molecule Director Siobhan Reddy Discusses 15 Years of Creative Games

@Juanalf Hopefully now the tools are done for Dreams they can put more into gameplay mechanics. At the very least, we got Sackboy, and it feels really good in your controller (although Sackboy is a little slow for my taste) so I'm very hopeful MM is inspired by seeing their creation in a more tight platformer. It's quietly one of my favorite PS5 launch games and where Astro outshines it with the controller, Sackboy's soundtrack and co-op is really really good.

Re: Interview: Media Molecule Director Siobhan Reddy Discusses 15 Years of Creative Games

I love that they are the creative part of Sony, but they really should sit down with some Nintendo designers more IMO. Dreams and earlier LBP games oftentimes did not feel good in your hands. That is what's special about Mario/Zelda/Smash/Metroid etc...The gameplay is tried and true and it always feels great to control with smooth mechanics. I feel like Mario Maker and New Super Mario Brother are MM ideas fully realized. They have the creative juice, but they really need to work on making the game's fun first and foremost.

Gameplay design that never gets old and you keep coming back to play more and more. Dreams should be an evergreen title, but MM needs to release a solid platforming campaign for it as a baseline for the quality gameplay you can achieve in Dreams. Art's Dreams was really not enough, I have kids, a wife and two jobs, I don't have time or a desire to create, show me fun gameplay in a structured way that I can progress through. This "indy jam" vibe of Dreams is not what I want to do when I sit down with my PS5. An open-world craft mode would be awesome in this game, my daughter would love to build in the Dreams universe but its way too complicated and lacks co-op.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Director Compares Series Evolution to Horizon Forbidden West

Omnistalgic

@ILikeStake They said in the original trailer to "embrace whatever comes" they kinda hinted it would be a little different. it's been decades since FF7, you have new creators and directors who want to interpret the story differently. To me, it's the best of both world, we're mostly getting a game that plays out like an official remake, but Sephiroth being aware of the past outcomes and working to change his fate is a nice twist.

Re: The Nioh Collection (PS5) - Backwards Compatibility Causing a Conundrum

Omnistalgic

This boils down to the fundamental truth that reviews are subjective, and therefore CANNOT be wrong. Some of us really need to accept that, and stop looking at the number score so much.

I personally wouldn't base my review on value propositions or the cost of something, to me, that's the most uninteresting part of reviewing games. I still remember the replay value column added into scores. The quality of the titles is what I would base most of my score on and value would just be something mentioned in my review.

But...this isn't my feelings on the Nioh collection...Remember through all the fancy words and adjectives, that's all a score is, someone's feeling on a piece of work.

Re: Poll: What Other First-Party PS4 Game Needs a PS5 Update?

Omnistalgic

@themightyant no disagreement, my main point was Sony owns these IP, I believe Bloodborne and Demons Souls. They have a contract with Spider-man and I'm not sure what Nioh is lol. Nioh might be the best real case example of "2nd party"

Sony owns Death Stranding as well doesn't it @Thefrenchiestfry?

Re: Poll: What Other First-Party PS4 Game Needs a PS5 Update?

Omnistalgic

@themightyant 2nd party isn't an actual term used in real life practice, it's just a description to describe the relationship between devs/pubs etc... Sony owns the IP, along with Demons Souls. They can put devs to work on it with or without From, like how MS did with Halo franchise. BB/DeS are both first party IP, but I'm sure Sony wants to keep working closely with From.

Re: Sony Plots Highest Ever Profits As Transition to Entertainment Pays Dividends

Omnistalgic

There's a lot of fluff that I'm not sure Sony needs in Kadokawa, but the acquisition of From is probably worth it. They are on an upward trajectory, and it could be used as a bargaining chip IP so Sony still gets franchises like Doom/Elder Scrolls on PS5 and future platforms. Some stuff is logically only going to be on Xbox/PC with that purchase, but Souls games are big enough now that it would be smart to work exclusively with that team and make them part of Sony's WWS. Honestly From kinda needs the technical help, that's the missing element from their games. I hope it happens, but I also hope Sony/MS make these IP's available to everyone and not make everything exclusive.

Re: Hitman 3 PS5 Marginally Outperformed by Xbox Series X

Omnistalgic

I keep seeing these disclaimers about the differences being small, negligible, and needing magnifying glasses to appreciate. Why then are articles/comparisons like this consistently made and written on? Why are these articles the ones getting the "clicks"? This just perpetuate console warring IMO, and just like in politics I don't get why more journalist aren't washing their hands with this type of stuff. No shade at DF, they are running things on a technical level, but I don't get why the media then turns and runs articles like this unless the differences between versions are indeed noticeable and offer different experiences.

Re: Hands On: Hitman 3 with PSVR Is a Timely Reminder of the Technology's Potential

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb great write-up, but I can't be hassled to hook up my PSVR again. Maybe not cordless, but the sequel to PSVR needs to be a MUCH easier set up so I can actually use it and unplug it without consulting a manual. I really loved VR and think it has potential for SP games, just need to get more comfortable resolutions on the eyes and of course, get the cords down to a minimum. Hopefully I can play games like this natively on PS5 one day.

Re: Deal: PS5 Looter Slasher Godfall Drops to Lowest Price Yet

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb if you factored that into the review though, I completely disagree with the premise of that logic. A review is about the quality of the game, value is not really part of that process to me, just something I would mention. I only say that because so many people keep talking about the price of games now. It makes me feel like if Returnal is a 8/10 or 9/10, it's going to be a 7 because everyone is fixated on "this costs too much".

Re: Poll: What Is Your PS5 and PS4 Game of the Year 2020?

Omnistalgic

Spider-Man & Souls was one heck of a way to launch PS5! I'm still on a high from it. TLOU2 is still the most interesting, intriguing, disturbing, frustrating, and complex game I've played all year, maybe ever. It's just made me question a lot of stuff about myself, the story, and I just never had so much discourse over a game before. It's not the most fun I've had with gaming, but it's an unforgettable game.

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Pricing Is Setting Releases Like Returnal Up to Fail

Omnistalgic

No offense to the article, but ultimately the audience will decide if this price is too high or not. That's generally not people that post on forums or sites like this, so we'll have to wait and see.

My personal opinion, gamers are kinda cheap (read forum folks like us, casual gamers buy $500 headphones from Apple w/o blinking). I put 1000+hours into Smash Brothers, even more into Destiny 2. If a game is worth even 50-100 hrs of gameplay, I really don't think $70 is too much. But again, my opinion is kinda the minority, it will be up to the larger user base. Generally, I don't think they will have a problem with it.

On Gamepass, it's very cool, and I like PSnow as well, but I spend time with 1-3 games a month if that. To me, gaming is not music/TV, I actually don't want to switch between a lot of different content frequently. It's also not passive at all like other forms of media. I dunno, having a huge library of rotating games will never be that appealing. I just like to complete my games one at a time, so subbing for hundreds of them is kinda pointless with my habits.

Re: Destiny 2 (PS5) - A Solid Update for Hardcore Players

Omnistalgic

As a player who used to Raid and be part of a clan (also got the platinum) it's STILL overwhelming to boot up. I want to get back into it, but you just don't know where to start once you fall off Destiny. Activity cards would also have been absolutely perfect for this game. A card to jump in crucible, a card for Gambit, for strikes, telling you the percentage of stuff you have to collect for weapons/loot. They could do so much here, and triggers is a no brainer. I hope Sony gives bungie some incentive to support these PS5 features.

Re: PlayStation Boss Reiterates Importance of Japan As Core Fans Get Antsy

Omnistalgic

@pip_muzz I'm not sure this is a problem with Sony Japan but what Sony studios want to do in general. Thankfully they are partnering with folks like Kojima who thinks gameplay first and hopefully we get something even better than death stranding on PS5, which was pretty cool but combat felt silly. I also think Horizon (traversal and exploring is streamlined) is pretty gamey when it comes to combat. Just need to take a page out of Botw and open up the exploration a bit. I think these sequels gameplay will improve, remember these both were back to square one games, God of War was a reimagining, Horizon a new IP. I think the sequels will largely be everything the first game did but better which means mechanics should receive the largest focus. LBP and Astrobot are also two game-focused IP as well as Gran Turismo. Far cry from Nintendo, but hopefully it improves with PS5 as Cerny stated one of the goals is to get games out quicker.

Re: Sony Backs Single Player Gaming in Leaked PlayStation Documents

Omnistalgic

@finalstan Spot on IMO. I'm a single player gamer, but there's multiplayer experiences I keep downloaded throughout the gen like Gran Turismo, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter and Destiny. I would suspect most gamers are a hybrid of both. It's not like you can sink time into all these multi-player experiences lol, I'm still trying to get into FF14!

Re: Sony Designed PS5's Biggest Feature Around Thriving Single Player Games

Omnistalgic

Activity Cards are amazing! It basically compartmentalizes the game in smaller chunks for you and makes side quest actually fun. I really hope devs utilize it, because this is the most next gen feature I've experienced outside of the controller. A lot of talk around load times, Switcher and Quick resume, but I'm turning my console off and cold-booting into games in 12-15 seconds. Load times are moot now. It was very smart of Sony to focus on getting into these massive games easier. I know first party will use it, but hopefully the industry does as well, because I just don't have time for massive 60+ hour games anymore. But if I can do chunks of it in small incremental sessions, it would really allow me to finish more games.

Re: Godfall (PS5) - Good Combat Means It's Not Godawful

Omnistalgic

@iamtylerdurden1 This is what I wanted to see! I can tell you're passionate about it, and I knew there was something good underneath the hood here just from a glance. Will pick it up when I'm finished with Miles Morales. I think reviewers are being harsher because of the price-tag. Not to mention, Destiny came out with pretty low scores as well and that's a GOTG for me. Again, tks for the write-up! You convinced me to check it out! If you're still playing add me -OmniCloud need to know what class to start with.

Re: Demon's Souls (PS5) - PlayStation's Best Ever Launch Game

Omnistalgic

@Bartig Easily the best Playstation lineup of all time IMO with a nice nod to PS2. There's other notable launches like N64 with Mario 64, original Xbox with Halo, and Switch with BotW. PS5 is right up there with the greats IMHO, it's sooooo good, something for everyone in variety. High quality exclusives that take advantage of PS5 and show off the hardware. Family friendly games to play, and best yet? PS5's first year looks stacked with crazy support from WWS.
