If you don't already know by now, Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered will feature a brand new face model for Peter Parker. Modelled after actor Ben Jordan, it'll be featured in the upcoming PlayStation 5 remaster, and presumably, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales if the character decides to show up. But before you decide whether you prefer the web-slinger's original face or this new design, make sure to check out the trailer above to see everything that's new in action.
This is a remastered cutscene from fairly early in the game when Peter is working alongside Otto Octavius as they research advanced prosthetic limbs together. It's a much better example of how life-like the newest face model compared to just a simple screenshot, but we're sure there will still be those who prefer the original Peter Parker. For more information on Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered, make sure to check out the other trailer released today that features 60 frames-per-second combat and web-slinging.

The characters look so good.
This is so wrong. It looks like a deep fake.
Well this looks really good, and the new face is an alright change. But I doubt that many will care honestly.
Why even bother, like what's the point.
Some more ray traced goodness for you, some great potential for screenshots in this game @LiamCroft

ohh the dislikes...man, sony PR is failing...
Looks better. More nerdy, less manly, very Spidey.
Did the mug always say AIM? If not, this really could be them trying to interconnect with Avengers.
This is so weird. Do they not have the rights for a remaster with the original facial capture model? If this is your first time seeing the game I guess its fine. But having played this game twice all the way through I am extremely bothered by them changing the appearance or the main character. This also makes me concerned for the sequel as well.
Even though I am against the remake I'm very surprised at the general backlash against the remasters trailers. These fans are not happy.
Have we gotten the actual full story from Sony yet?
Don't want to deny "actor Ben Jordan" a paycheck but did they really need to hire a new actor for game dialog updates or did they just not want to pay Tom Holland for his likeness?
See Ellen Page.
I prefer the old one. I am glad we still have that on the PS4.
@rjejr They mentioned it in another article: "We loved working with John Bubniak on the original game; however, to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture, we have cast Ben Jordan to be the face model for Peter Parker on the PS5 console. He looks incredible in-game, and Yuri’s moving performances take on a new life."
@nessisonett Nah A.I.M. always existed in this universe. I'm pretty sure that mug always said A.I.M. on it, especially given how they as an organization factored into Octavius' research after he was ousted from Oscorp
@carlos82 Yeah, that particular screenshot is absolutely incredible.
Personally like this more, the old model looked plasticky to me xd
So much better! He’s hot.
Original model looked like Bishop from Aliens.
Insomniac's twitter is a little spicy right now. They are clapping back against people who say they don't like the changes. They are very adamant that the model change had to happen so that they can "bring you next-gen performances".
@710King that sounds like it makes sense, the original actor wasn’t next gen enough.
I prefer the old Peter because he looks older and I like Spidey stories with an older Peter. But this is such a non-issue for me. Just reinforces that I need to spend less time on social media and gamer circles and more time having fun with these amazing games. People are upset about everything today, it's really weird.
@710King Looking at my avatar on here, Peter clearly gave a next-gen performance on the PS4.
The future of the franchise 😃

@JJ2 There's plenty to complain about when a two year old game is remastered but this character model change is not one of them and if they did this with every character the price tag may actually be of value. The fact that the director of the studio has now had to make a statement about this is ridiculous.
@710King
I dont really care.
The statement is as close as it gets to announcing he is working on SM2 is what I see.
@JJ2 Yes it appears like he is saying they did this change because they were going with the Tom Holland looking Peter in the next Spiderman game and wanted to keep it consistent.
In the twitter thread, Insomniac says they've been working on this remaster for about a year, I'd be willing to bet they are also working on SM2 alongside it.
Why the backlash, it looks so much better!
@rjejr After what happened with TLoU2, I'm pretty sure Ellen's glad not to be associated at this point.
@God_of_Nowt That is well and good for the original, but what about Miles Morales (if Peter does appear) and the sequel? That guy you liked from the first game, nah, **** that guy, here is this other guy instead.
Might not matter to you, and if so, good for you. But people obviously disagree that this was a good decision.
Cmon I can’t be the only one who always thought he looked off in the original? I like th change personally .
Definitely worth $70 for game and $500 for ps5
I just ordered the Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales after seeing the updates. I was undecided on what version I wanted so I was holding off. The quality of the face and hair looks so much better. After I got over the initial shock 🤯 I agree it was the right direction to take.
Am I the only one who thinks that besides the character model, the original looks way better and atmospheric? I saw a side-by-side comparison video and I just can't get into the new ray tracing lighting.
Yeah, it always bothered me knowing that old Peter's face was underneath that beautiful suit. He did need an upgrade. I'm hoping they make Sarah Silverman the new aunt may...
Looks super dumb and out of place. The other face was so much better and the voice fits perfectly in it...probably one of dumbest ideas ever in gaming, alongside not having a free PS5 upgrade.
@NEStalgia What happened w/ TLOU2? I mean besides all the "woke" stuff or whatever? I think I zoned out over the pandemic back then, I can't even recall what scores it got outside of what I'll just assume was review bombing by people who were never going to play it anyway. @Octane just told me it was his GOTY or some such, so I'm guessing it a least turned out ok.
@710King Yeah thanks I read that. But I meant the REAL reason, that just sounds like BS to me. I mean come on, the game is already made, it's just a remaster. Seems like a look of work for a remaster of a 2 year old game. To pay an actor for stuff that is already done? Has to be more to the story, there just has to be.
And like, come on, it's just a weird totally honest coincidence that the guy looks a lot like Tom Holland? And the in game character looks more like Tom Holland than it looks like the guy they PAID to borrow his likeness? Not buying what they're selling. But thanks for the info.
@rjejr It seems clear from their subsequent statements that the real reason for the change was because they wanted a more Tom Holland looking Peter in the future games and decided to just retcon the original version while they had the chance.
@rjejr The political contexts, the apparent workplace disaster that was Naughty Dog producing it in their sweatshop, the fact that the story/theme/content itself was controversial (not from a political perspective but from an expectations/theme perspective) and of course the scandal of review manipulation.....
Yeah, that game isn't a genre I partake in, personally, but if I were a fan of the first, I definitely would not be thrilled with what happened with the second. It's not to say there aren't very happy players of it that think it's great....but it's divisive and controversial. As -is, I don't do horror, I don't do zombies, so I'm just eating popcorn on the sidelines....but IMO despite the apparent production quality of the game being indeed fantastic, there's a lot of "WTF happened" going on about that game.
Then again "I don't do horror, I don't do zombies" has left a thin few years of PS for me. Basically there was Spiderman and then there was GoT......and now they're selling Spiderman again..... And I can't buy GoT even though I want to so badly because they won't comment if they're going to "remaster" that and resell it to us again as well. So basically, the release calendar is Spiderman, Spiderzuck, Sackboy to me over a 2 year span.
@Octanes taste in games leaves much to be desired
Agreed, they didn't replace the actor "to make him next gen." Maybe it was because of a new actor for the new games....but then why replace the actor there either? Maybe it was Disney wanting to hit a younger audience. Maybe it was Sony wanting to hit the Japanese audience with a "teenage hero". Maybe the OG actor didn't want to put up with how bad this title was going. Who knows. But they didn't hire a new actor and do all new modeling and mocap for the title character in a 2 year old game to "make it next gen." And why they wanted to make Peter look like the star in "Leave it to Peter" I'll never know. But I'll buy the DLC that changes every line to start with "Golly, gee that sure looks swell!" all the same. And the Varsity Jacket costume.
I think trying to make this game look "like the movies it's not actually based on" is classic Sony suckery. They have an obsession with that. The PLAYSTATION3 font plastered on the side of the box was admitted to have been inspired by their Spiderman 2 movie. I know they're a film studio, but can you leave the games and films separate unless it's an actual film tie-in game?
Something tells me the "free" patch is an up-charge simply due to the cost of replacing the actor so they can imitate the movie the game isn't based on.
@NEStalgia I think I did a really good job of avoiding all of the LOU2 news b/c I barely recall any of that. Though I also didn't play it otherwise I might remember.
Not really sure what the plan is on that one. I think I will some day, but it's down the list quite a ways. After Tomb Raider 3, which seems similar in a girl vs the world in a dark violent world kind of way. I got HW AOC and Pikmin 3 on pre-order, both have couch co-op so I can play with my wife. And really I'd rather play Ghost of T over TLOU2. I only played the 1st boss of Spiderman so I could still play that I suppose, my son may want Miles for Christmas. Though if we wait for PS5 that's a year out. Or 2. May be a year out for the people who pre-ordered. 🤣
@rjejr It was mostly angry people review bombing and threatening devs because they story didn't go the way they wanted it to be. I didn't see anything wrong with it. But you know, Ellie is lesbian, so it's all woke propaganda thrash and Naughty Dog should burn in hell
@Octane Well unless lesbian Ellie slept with her aunt then killed her afterwards w/ a sword thru the gullet it's all ok by me. And if her aunt is hot and deserving of a sword thru the gullet, well then that's ok by me too. 🤣
@710King Thanks. Guess I need to go find those subsequent statements. Serves me right for getting all of my news from twitter.
