@The_New_Butler If I was coming across as defending the price, It wasn't my intention. I'm not debating whether this is a good deal or not, my only point is that's it's subjective as value itself is subjective. For me, I never played Ghost, so this is my first time purchasing and I'm getting a lot of content. For others, this might be too steep. I have no problem with folks not ok with the price, I'm just rebutting the outrage of Sony charging what they want for their software.
@get2sammyb its not about PS being dead, but they literally cannot respond in kind to Gamepass without a huge amount of risk. The parent companies are worlds apart, MS can afford to pay all of their employees for a century if they stopped making money today. So when media perpetuate this notion that its just a "decision" Sony could easily make (funny how Nintendo is NEVER in this debate) it adds validity to Sony being greedy, selfish, and not caring about its fans. "Why aren't they being awesome like MS and giving us Playstation pass?" They cannot afford to, not on the scale MS can. And we just keep ignoring that fact? It's not about being in a vacuum, this is MS strategy, it's a subscription model where they likely want 100+ million subs for it to sustain itself. They can afford for it to be a loss leader for decades. Nintendo doing that would go out of business if they didn't gain 150M subs. MS doesn't bat an eye lol...
@The_New_Butler Thank you for being a voice of reason...Value is all up to our own prerogative at the end of the day. I have a little bit of both I will buy some classic Nintendo stuff at full price and some of Sony's must-play experiences.
@KayOL77 You speak the truth, but honestly, most would label this fear-mongering despite all the evidence. MS has made a play in every single tech industry, the proof is right there. (Bing, Zoom, Nokia, Mixer, Surface, Windows Phone, etc...) I can't believe the press is championing the richest company ever as the underdog lol. This is not true competition, Xbox lost 2 out of 3 gens now and the people chose Sony and Nintendo. Normal competition would remove them and make way for someone else. What happens when Xbox loses? Phil gets the parent company to buy an entire publisher! Yaaaay let's celebrate the underdog giving Sony competition! This is not to say I won't enjoy Xbox when Starfield or something else amazing comes but let's not kid ourselves, that would have been a game available on Xbox/PS/PC if not for MS competitive goals. But these things have a way of working themselves out...I don't think they will ever get a grasp of this industry like they do in the workforce. Gaming is too creative IMHO and mobile, which MS doesn't have a majority stake is almost half the gaming industry.
@RaZieLDaNtE This is what keeps me from going full twitter rage mode and asking Shu every day lol. I do think there's a remaster in the works for Bloodborne, it just makes too much sense. And for Bluepoint to do a version that looks just as good as the Remake, my gawd!!! I got the Plat for the remake as well but honestly, its one of the more basic souls game being the original. Something like Bloodbonre really turned up the depth of combat and the art style was superior as well. With the old Hunter DLC, it really would easily sell another 2-4 million units IMHO. Sony has to do it!! They got to!
@Snoober no one is trying to make an excuse. There's no right or wrong here and you're trying to frame it as one. I don't give a crap about how much Gears upgrade path costs because its pricing strategy is irrelevant. There's no generalized publisher agreement on what upgrades should costs. There's no objective way of looking at value. There's no limit to what a publisher/developer can claim their content is worth. Value is subjective, you vote with your wallet. That's all there is to it. This is one of the last examples we should be bringing out the moral police for. If you don't see the value, don't buy it...
@Snoober I'm not advocating anything, I'm saying this isn't any real level of money to be getting fussed about, and it's GREAT value for the millions of people who didn't buy the game. Not everyone plays games as soon as they release, and now you have an improved experience on PS5 with new features and content. So you saying they are nickel and dimel fans are only speaking to players who already purchased, not the massive user base as a whole. Only thing I'm advocating is people votes with their wallets and stop acting like this business isn't expensive and we don't spend $15 on a random Tuesday at Chick-fil-a
And I'm sorry this isn't just an upgrade, it's an entire new island to explore? how much cheaper should it have been for there not to be outrage? $10?? like seriously lol
Stray, Kena, and Sifu not including the big AAA Horizon game. They all look really unique and have interesting gameplay loops. Hades I'm excited to finally play as well.
@RaZieLDaNtE man, I would pay for a remastered, a remake, I don't care! After DeS remake though, it's just like??! Come'on Sony! Do this for Bloodborne!
I'm cool with it...ya'll being cheap, and honestly this is how most people will react to it IRL. Or just wait for a sale.
If PushSquare mentions Gamepass in another Playstation article I'm gonna stop coming here. MS has a GAZILLION Dollars in the bank and is the richest tech company in the world. (Apple?) No one could afford to front the ballooning costs of AAA game development like that besides them and a handful of companies. To keep using it as some knock against Sony and Nintendo is not only insulting to the devs but an illogical comparison as the parent companies of Sony/Nintendo can't afford it - period. I know the fine folks at Pushsquare don't think MS expanded GamePass and acquired a publisher with the profits they made from the Xbox division right?
@naruball it was never going to be as big as Minecraft, but yeah, it has a lots of potential not being tapped into.

@WolfKingk87 PC is a different audience... maybe if I say it in caps. PC IS A DIFFERENT AUDIENCE
lol, seriously though, just like there are people who would simply never game on PC, there are folks who would never get a console. That's who Sony is selling to. And they are really getting their cake and eating because most of these releases come at a time where the game's sales are already dried up on console. Besides using it in list wars online and silly phrasing like "true exclusives", everyone benefits from this arrangement including Sony.
Like whatever argument you want to make against Sony's WWS on PC is kinda illogical to me. If you are talking about it devaluing the brand, well that's not only fanboy nonsense but should be left to Sony suits to worry about. if you want Sony's WWS games to be better, PC money helps. The only issue Sony has to fix is having the best versions of their titles only on PC like Horizon Zero Dawn is. PS5 needs a 60fps update ASAP.
@Immortal_Barnet in a just world, MS would just bow out, go third party and help Sony make awesome services. But nope, they get to fail over and over again and buy publishers to stay relevant. If I didn't love gaming so much, I would never even support the system, but eh...it is what it is...At least they seemed to have adopted Sony's "let the studios do what they want" mantra so we should get some awesome exclusive from MS this gen, even if it may take a while.
@Unlucky13 lol...I couldn't have said it better. I grew up with 7 as my first big RPG so it's my favorite of all time. I loved 8, disliked 9 because I thought the characters were boring and Zidane was still weak by the end of it lol. loved 10, finished 12 but was just enjoying the combat the story was meh and loved Tactics. I hear 14 has a great story underneath the MMO and I never got into 15 after trying it for a few hours. 13?? Umm I finished it? that's about the best compliment I can give it.
@reek @reek Music and movies are both PASSIVE forms of entertainment though. We don't consume games the same way we do movies/music so the comparison isn't apt IMHO. My mom can't come in and see a game I'm playing, pick up a controller and have at it. She hasn't touched a pad in decades and will not learn how to use one just to enjoy something. for movies/music the only skills you need are your own senses. Break-throughs in the internet have to happen as well for streaming to even be considered in some parts of the world.
@Voltan This too, Sony doesn't own Fromsoftwar or HM, but they do own Returnal, Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. They also own Socom, Resistance, Ape Escape and a bunch of IP that they hopefully get devs on. I also don't think he's jabbing at MS here, because MS bought pretty quality studios. I don't play any of Bethesda games but they seem to make stuff that makes money back and ES/Fallout are hugely popular IP especially on PC. Sony will continue doing their own thing and likely working closely with studios they are familiar with. MS wide-range approach has potential to produce some duds as not everyone will vibe with the culture. But yeah, I'm glad they finally going in somewhat different directions with the focus on gamepass. Perhaps for the first time in years I can justify getting a PS and Xbox.
@Tharsman This isn't true. There are articles on how Japan was mismanaged and hundreds of concepts were floating around the office with no one actually making a game. This was years before the closure so they had plenty of opportunities. In that time spent, they produced Puppeteer, a few smaller games on PSN and Gravity Rush Remastered and a sequel. They were not the most innovative at anything really, just had a bunch of nice ideas that never materialized. Team Asobi is a new starting point for the studio that will hopefully grow, it's not a complete closure of the studio.
It does feel like Kojima, hopefully, it's real and he finally gets to do his horror game. I might nope out of it myself if it's too creepy, but I hope for fans of Silent Hill it's true.
Me personally, I just hope the remake of MGS is true.
Remember most of us here are likely core gamers and browse titles across all genres. Madden/Fifa/2K etc...are all huge franchises. The little updates like this are a big deal to it's players. Madden in particular is VERY slow with any actual gameplay changes.
Not interesting in these games, but all I can say is shame on media outlets not reporting on this more as SUPER anti-consumer. Not only did Phil say he didn't make this move to "take away games from everyone" (lie) Xbox division as a whole did not earn this move. This money is from the parent monopoly company MS. Competition sure is good, but the competition is choosing PS/Switch as their main gaming consoles. MS did not play this fair at all and it's a shame so many are praising it as "It's finally Xbox time to shine!" Yeah, on the back of other studios they are now claiming is Xbox, not curating talent and making GOTY titles from their own WWS like Sony and Nintendo has done for years. I can easily buy an Xbox, but almost don't want to out of principle.
@pip_muzz meh...I have every console, it was pretty whack IMHO. Xbox had a 7/10 conference I think they are getting more praised because they are usually so bad. Halo finally was showed and looked fun and Forza also looks great, rest of the stuff was CG reveals? Nintendo was a bit better, but I'm mostly just over Switch besides local co-op games. Botw2 tease looked fantastic though and they did show gameplay. 8/10.
Sony or not, it wasn't that good. It's not just PushSquare saying it, it's all over the web. There were absolutely terrible showings like SE/Capcom, mediocre ones, and the best we got was 'good'. Nothing even comparable to 2016 E3, like not even close. Seeing Horizon's gameplay was more hype than most of this show. Botw2 really did save e3 for me, one game. It's no pony bias, I wish everyone would stop using that lame excuse. Hell half the people buying PS are not "Ponies" like us on forums like this. Its just the "in" thing to have and they are super casual in purchases and likely buy mostly 3rd party stuff. Sony's presentations have simply been better than most of this E3 - period. I will give you MS and Nintendo was not "bad" but the disappointments aren't simply coming from sour grapes on Sony's absence.
I voted still relevant to be kind, but this year I consistently found myself going "this looks bad" or "why are we seeing CG?" Nintendo really did save it for me, and their show was pretty average from Nintendo's standards. That's saying a lot. Nothing felt like Horizon, nothing made me go out and say I need an Xbox. it was very meh and I hope the next time Sony does something it's nothing like this. Nintendo might not have been the most hype, but they showed gameplay.
Graphics is the biggest issue, maybe it'll be SE monster hunter or something and those companions will be actual players in co-op. Very weird low-budget effort from SE, but I'm glad it has a backbone at least. Will try out the demo.
A situation like this is where I truly don't understand the lack of synergy between Sony studios. You have one of the biggest IP in Japan, literally breaking records, why not do a JRPG based on this IP with a big budget?
@Loftimus Yeah, I will definitely get an Xbox this gen as well if some of Bethesda's stuff is really amazing. I don't like how they had to buy a giant publisher just to stay relevant, but I'll put my Pony aside for a little bit to play some fun games for cheap lol...
@Loftimus I think you aren't interpreting what I'm saying. But it's kinda moot, basically, there's still a ton of value in each ecosystem. The entire 3rd party development community is not putting their games on Gamepass. Subscription services are not everyone's cup of tea, etc...I keep saying there's value in GamePass, but saying "it's the best value" is subjective. Agree to disagree on that.
What you just said about Ratchet is subjective. Some players will get much more than 12 hours of game time, some will pass it along for others to play, some will get it on sale, some will just pay for it and like having ownership etc...All of that is subjective. You can't equate market value to objective value in-recreation purchases.
@Loftimus Oh for sure, GamePass is a great value, but I still think it's partly subjective how valuable it is. Resident Evil 8 didn't launch on Gamepass for example. I still am not buying this is the industry standard going forward because budget wise, it doesn't make any sense. Perhaps, gaming will become like movies where you make a lot of money upfront and then they come to services, (and I expect a $20 sub price at best) but I seriously doubt GTA6 will debut on anything other than standard retail pricing. It's been older 3rd party, Indies, and situations where MS paid enough upfront money to where it made sense for the devs. (Yakuza series don't sell well on Xbox for example)
@Kidfried I agree but I wouldn't call the physical charts useless
@Loftimus you're kinda doing the same thing by saying "it's the best value in gaming" value is not objective. Just because you are dealing with math, doesn't make it objective, we are still talking about gaming and personal preference. Someone can see the value in spending $400 on Switch Smash and some controllers and they'll play for an entire year. Who are you to say Gamepass is a better deal than that? To them, the value is worth the price of admission and many Smash players will happily tell you it's better than anything they can play on Xbox.
We really need to stop saying this broad stroke statement of "Gamepass is the best deal" it's clearly not...
So far none of these games have affected my personal gaming tastes. But I can only imagine something like MH, RE FF being only on Xbox. I hope all the deals are just western devs already tight with MS, and I honestly hope it's mostly over with. They should have more than enough studios to fulfill whatever goals they have with Gamepass. Stop buying 3rd party please MS, if you are for-gamers, you would see the majority of people game on Playstation and Nintendo consoles and you're actually forcing them to buy your brand now to play certain games. Not very pro-consumer at all, but that couldn't be what the legendary Phil is all about could it? lol
Well you guys said it yourself, this likely isn't possible without MS unlimited funds because of their Windows monopoly. The question we should be asking is "what their endgame and is it good for the industry?" My bet is nope...So for now, I'll keep supporting all three to play the games I want with a stronger emphasis on Nintendo and Sony who isn't backed by a trillion dollars and actually needs the gaming industry to stay afloat.
@Ilovecoffee nah...you buggin, PS5 is great and already has amazing exclusives. It sucks folks can't get one, but no need to downplay. The controller alone is worth upgrading, let alone the exclusives and playing stuff like Ghost at 4K 60fps
@Snake_V5 I agree with everything, but many intelligent people understand the intricacies of the mobile market and I'm sure after PSV, some techs wanted another go at it. Nintendo is having success, but they have to combine the portable/home console SDK into one unit, Sony can't shrink its PS5 to that level lol. Mobile games with controller support might have a future tbh...As phones get more and more powerful, I can imagine Iphone 14-15 being powerful enough to be docked and connected to a TV like Switch. That's a huge userbase to advertise games towards, and honestly, Sony is probably hiring new staff to make a mobile hit as the audience is completely different. The initiative shouldn't detract from our WWS games.
Tks for highlighting this as a positive. While the outcome is pretty much the same for consumers (these will end up console exclusive more than likely) it's still a pill easier to swallow than what MS is doing. I'm sorry but buying publishers reeks of past MS plays at "me too" type of money spending. They tried to copy Apple's success with Zoom, Google's with Bing, Twitch with Mixer, etc...They are simply too rich to fail, and Gamepass is not some pro-consumer move for the greater good of all gamers. MS just wants 200M subs and to have a monopoly in another industry. Out of the big 3, they are the ones I'm most concerned about because I still don't see a passionate gaming spirit from the company and its PR is super warrior-ish.
Looks amazing! After DeS remake, it's hard not to compare this graphically, but man, this looks more and more like the Bloodborne sequel we didn't get last gen. Can't wait, just wish From would work with Sony's Ice team and really make an amazing looking game, that's their only weak point. Art direction and gameplay is top of the industry.
@PlatinumGamer Seriously, I can't believe people constantly praise this guy as some humble savior of gaming. He really came across as "salty" in this interview and the pot shots goes against his "I hate console warring" stance. If he's arguing with Sony about bringing gamepass to PS he needs to keep that private. This came across as very warrior-ish. It's different strategies, let the people decide what's best. You want Nintendo to put Animal Crossing on PC too?
like what is he talking about? This strategy is exclusive to MS because they are so rich. And they are rich outside of the gaming industry, yet they get to use those funds to buy up publishers. We better get some amazing games out MS that's for sure. I'm really not feeling how they are moving in the industry.
@nessisonett Nah, he's the head of Xbox and taking shots at Sony/Nintendo for a business strategy. And, as much as he says he hates console warring, this is the exact type of thing that breeds warriors. read the entire post, he's basically saying MS strategy is better for everyone, more consumer-friendly and Sony should get with the program aka "let us put Gamepass on your devices and make money with you". Perhaps he should also deposit 400B into Sony's account because none of this is even possible without MS having a monopoly on the workforce. Phil is not a savior and Xbox strategy is a long-play for profit, they can simply afford massive losses which is not fair to expect Sony/Nintendo to follow suit.

Re: Hideo Kojima Fans Investigate PS5 Exclusive Abandoned, Reads Like Conspiracy Theories
It does feel like Kojima, hopefully, it's real and he finally gets to do his horror game. I might nope out of it myself if it's too creepy, but I hope for fans of Silent Hill it's true.
Me personally, I just hope the remake of MGS is true.
Re: Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes Headline Madden NFL 22 on PS5, PS4
Remember most of us here are likely core gamers and browse titles across all genres. Madden/Fifa/2K etc...are all huge franchises. The little updates like this are a big deal to it's players. Madden in particular is VERY slow with any actual gameplay changes.
Re: Bethesda Apologises to PS5, PS4 Fans 'P*ssed' at Exclusivity
Re: Psychonauts 2 Will Also Release on PS4 This August
@Mergatro1d former 3rd party...unfortunately...
Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy
Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy
I voted still relevant to be kind, but this year I consistently found myself going "this looks bad" or "why are we seeing CG?" Nintendo really did save it for me, and their show was pretty average from Nintendo's standards. That's saying a lot. Nothing felt like Horizon, nothing made me go out and say I need an Xbox. it was very meh and I hope the next time Sony does something it's nothing like this. Nintendo might not have been the most hype, but they showed gameplay.
Re: Hands On: Forget the Chaos Memes, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Has Potential
Graphics is the biggest issue, maybe it'll be SE monster hunter or something and those companions will be actual players in co-op. Very weird low-budget effort from SE, but I'm glad it has a backbone at least. Will try out the demo.
Re: Anime Sensation Demon Slayer Will Deploy in October on PS5, PS4 in Japan
A situation like this is where I truly don't understand the lack of synergy between Sony studios. You have one of the biggest IP in Japan, literally breaking records, why not do a JRPG based on this IP with a big budget?
Re: UK Sales Charts: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart the Next Insomniac Game to Take Top Spot
@Loftimus Yeah, I will definitely get an Xbox this gen as well if some of Bethesda's stuff is really amazing. I don't like how they had to buy a giant publisher just to stay relevant, but I'll put my Pony aside for a little bit to play some fun games for cheap lol...
Re: UK Sales Charts: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart the Next Insomniac Game to Take Top Spot
Re: UK Sales Charts: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart the Next Insomniac Game to Take Top Spot
Re: UK Sales Charts: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart the Next Insomniac Game to Take Top Spot
Re: You Won't Be Playing The Outer Worlds 2 on PS5, PS4
So far none of these games have affected my personal gaming tastes. But I can only imagine something like MH, RE FF being only on Xbox. I hope all the deals are just western devs already tight with MS, and I honestly hope it's mostly over with. They should have more than enough studios to fulfill whatever goals they have with Gamepass. Stop buying 3rd party please MS, if you are for-gamers, you would see the majority of people game on Playstation and Nintendo consoles and you're actually forcing them to buy your brand now to play certain games. Not very pro-consumer at all, but that couldn't be what the legendary Phil is all about could it? lol
Re: Spiritual Suikoden Successor Eiyuden Chronicle Now Aiming for 2023 Release on PS5, PS4
Art style looks amazing...
Re: Reaction: Xbox Game Pass Is the Thorn in PS5's Side
Well you guys said it yourself, this likely isn't possible without MS unlimited funds because of their Windows monopoly. The question we should be asking is "what their endgame and is it good for the industry?" My bet is nope...So for now, I'll keep supporting all three to play the games I want with a stronger emphasis on Nintendo and Sony who isn't backed by a trillion dollars and actually needs the gaming industry to stay afloat.
Re: PS5 Scalpers Frustrate and Upset Sony Boss Jim Ryan
@Ilovecoffee nah...you buggin, PS5 is great and already has amazing exclusives. It sucks folks can't get one, but no need to downplay. The controller alone is worth upgrading, let alone the exclusives and playing stuff like Ghost at 4K 60fps
Re: Elden Ring Combat, Open World, and Story All Detailed
@arsmolinarc oh yeah, I would bet on Sony and From doing another game together. They really need to get a team on Bloodborne 60fps though!
Re: Reaction: Partnerships Show PlayStation Empowering Creators, And Avoiding an Acquisition War
@Flaming_Kaiser yeah, I just hope Sony/Nintendo are always around. I'm good if so
Re: Sony: Perverse to Restrict First-Party IP to PlayStation Community, Mobile News Coming Soon
Re: Reaction: Partnerships Show PlayStation Empowering Creators, And Avoiding an Acquisition War
Re: Elden Ring Combat, Open World, and Story All Detailed
Looks amazing! After DeS remake, it's hard not to compare this graphically, but man, this looks more and more like the Bloodborne sequel we didn't get last gen. Can't wait, just wish From would work with Sony's Ice team and really make an amazing looking game, that's their only weak point. Art direction and gameplay is top of the industry.
Re: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PS5 Launch Trailer Is Pure Hype
"auuuuughhh! I have sprained my ANKLE" best line
Re: Xbox Head Targets Sony for Not Launching Games Day and Date on PC
@FatalBubbles Yeah, but the division is coming from the f'n head of Xbox. That's the problem.
Re: Xbox Head Targets Sony for Not Launching Games Day and Date on PC
Re: Xbox Head Targets Sony for Not Launching Games Day and Date on PC
