At the time the PS5 launched I expected Horizon: Forbidden West to be out by now, but other than that I've been quite happy. Demon's Souls and Returnal are both extremely excellent games that I'll long remember.
Internet culture and repeat releases have soured things a bit, but I loved the game when I played it ten years ago. Absolutely loved it.
But Bethesda really slowed down afterwards.
In 2005/6 we got Oblivion, in 2008 we got Fallout 3, in 2011 we got Skyrim, in 2015 we got Fallout 4. No new Elder Scrolls for an entire decade, and for more than an entire console generation. Shame.
NFTs are a naked scam and no sane person would buy one unless they were laundering money.
Cryptocurrencies were invented to facilitate crime, including slavery, tax evasion, and money laundering. It's only a matter of time before governments actually regulate this nonsense.
People like Andrew Wilson are drooling at the possibility of creating very cheap digital goods which could have limitless value - microtransactions are already most of the way there.
@Nancyboy
Totally agree with you. The company protected rapist managers for years. It's difficult to keep track of the sins of each corporation, but Ubisoft is so rotten I couldn't bring myself to buy one of their games even if they weren't riddled with microtransactions.
If I didn't lose hmdi 2.1 by using the breakout box I'd be interested in playing in VR, but I'd have to get into my wall to mess with cables. I also don't have Move controllers. At least there's the normal version!
It's honestly such a shame that instead of making a sequel they've just focused on the same game. We could have had many more adventures over the past 10 years.
It's okay to press buttons on a controller even if you don't know what the button does. You won't break anything. It's okay to experiment.
Those are the messages I think are important to convey. There's a balance, but being told literally everything can take the magic away from some games.
Every time I play Mario Kart I forget the buttons, but I press a few and figure it out in about one second.
That ammo system sounds irritating. Thanks for taking the time to explain that, Liam - I think I got the feel for what that would actually be like to deal with.
Objective means it is a fact that everyone agrees on.
Subjective means that something is a certain way only because of the lens of the subject (i.e., the person viewing it).
To say "it is a scientific fact that this game is good/bad" is a ridiculous way to view the world. Be serious.
John thought this game sucked. You apparently think it's great. What have you learned? You disagree with John with regard to this game and probably with some others. That's it.
I disagree with Liam about the quality of many games. He sees no problem with microtransaction-laden live service games whereas I loathe them and would never play them. Is Liam wrong? Am I wrong? Those questions are absurd.
Liam and I like different things. I take that into consideration when reading his reviews.
If you are expecting the world to be more concrete than this then you will be deceived and frustrated quite frequently.
"The contract was cancelled and the CEO is dead." "No he's not." "Well, the contract is still cancelled. All in all this is good news though, right? I mean, the CEO is still alive!"
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was actually pretty good. The focus on the combo meter and finishers meant that aggression was rewarded - you couldn't cower in a corner and swoop in for the kill, you could only kill opponents if you'd been dealing damage.
Unfortunately it didn't have a super good roster. It was alright, but not great. No Solid Snake? Whatever the reason such characters weren't included, it hurt the game. There werr also very few unlockables and extra frills, which Smash Bros. has in droves. There were unlockable alternate costumes that were cool (and not a simple color swap), but, I believe, only one per character.
Also, to be honest, the name of the game is pretty bad - it's too long and sterile. It needed something shorter, snappier, and livelier.
Still, my friends and I had a great time! But not good enough to bust out the PS3.
A lot of logo changes look just fine. Sony Santa Monica looks better than it used to. Insomniacs old logo was cool but was very 90s, and the new one is alright.
This one looks too sterile and juvenile, but whatever - it's a logo. I think it's worse than average.
Incidentally, Sony has had basically the same logo since 1946!
It's an interesting idea. Demos used to be common but many people played the demo and had their fill, while other games sucked and the demo showed it.
The Resi 2 demo was interesting because it was time limited. You got a taste but couldn't even play the demo after you first tried. It left me wanting more.
Trials of good games, which have already been released for a while, could be a decent way to promote them.
This studio has like a dozen employees. Whatever Netflix paid for them, they make that much money literally like every 5 minutes. This is a tiny acquisition of a team that, though I like them, have only produced 7/10 games.
I love God of War but this tournament is meaningless and isn't worth the paper it's not printed on. Monkey's on a typewriter could have better reflected reality.
Also, these types of competitions have a well-known bias toward more recent media.
Honestly I thought Titanfall 2 was only okay. It played smooth and had some cool sections, but it was really short and didn't do anything very innovative.
Everyone mentions the time-warp level as astounding and ground-breaking, but the level changed in a few prescribed sections and the whole thing lasted, to my memory, less than 15 minutes.
Good news, but I think there is a 1% chance that money will be used efficiently. This game was started by two college buddies. $100,000,000 is an insane amount of money. To compare, Horizon: Zero Dawn cost something like 47 million to make.
Unless they hire the best producers in the universe a lot of that money will probably be wasted.
Honestly Sammy I think this piece is pretty rude. It's fair to criticize a company for their business decisions but you imply that the developers themselves should feel ashamed.
Other Sony studios should feel embarrassed because Insomniac announced some games? Do you honestly think the developers of Ghost of Tsushima should feel embarrassed about this? Do you honestly think Naughty Dog employees should feel ashamed that people have their eyes on Insomniacs latest trailers?
You have a narrative in your head and you can't seem to see things any other way. For example, you've repeatedly stated this week that Sony has been silent for a year - this is simply not true! They've had numerous press events and shown hours of gameplay from games in development.
I can't imagine that a single person who works for a first-party developer agrees with your assessment on the state of their business. Your website has grown over the past year but that doesn't mean you are right about things. Honestly, you often come across as emotionally labile, or, more likely, that you'll print anything for clicks.
People say Insomniac are pumping out games and that's true. But it's only last gen that game production seems to take forever.
They used to make a ratchet and clank game every year. Naughty Dog released the first 3 Uncharteds and The Last of Us with only one year between each game. From Software releases games every other year. Returnal took 18 months to make and that studio makes a game every couple of years.
You get the idea.
We're just more conditioned to people like Rockstar never producing anything that we're shocked when studios are actually productive.

Re: The Elder Scrolls 6 Isn't Coming to PS5, But It's Not About 'Punishing Other Platforms'
Is there some reason he doesn't come out and say "it's only on Microsoft platforms. If you want to play it then buy our products."
Seems weird to spend many billions of dollars on exclusivity and then downplay that exclusivity every time the topic comes up.
