Re: We're Sure Everyone Will Be Calm About SEGA NFT Trademark

KippDynamite

If you own an nft of something you don't even own the copyright - you just own something that was dreamed up called an nft. There is no value. It's effectively a collectible of nothing. But it's verified by the Blockchain to be the nft for that particular thing. That's it. You'd be mad to buy one - unless you're trying to launder money or hide assets for purposes of tax evasion.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Realistically Expect from PS5, PS4's Game Pass Inspired PS Plus Reboot?

KippDynamite

I expect nothing.

Every time a gaming platform holder focuses on "new" business models instead of quality games they've ended up going out of business. This goes back decades.

At the end of the day people want good games, and you can't fund good games if you give them away for free. There's a reason Microsoft has never, ever released the income made by GamePass.

Re: Cory Barlog Has 'No Idea' if God of War Ragnarok Will Come to PC

KippDynamite

Pretty big claim (and news) if Cory is correct in his claim that developers themselves are the reason PlayStation exclusives are coming to PC. I still think it's a bad business decision overall because it removes the main incentive to buy their main product, but it certainly paints people like Jim Ryan in a much different light than some in the community would have you believe - rather than a clueless exec, he'd be an exec who listens to developers much more than average.

Re: Poll: How Long Should Games Be?

KippDynamite

Obviously it depends on what the game is and how engaging it is. I could spend triple the time playing Horizon Zero Dawn or Returnal because the core gameplay is so good. I thought Red Dead Redemption 2 was way too long because I found the gameplay rather dull and automatic.

I would say there's a 0% chance that 500 hours of Dying Light will be engaging gameplay. At least 450 of those hours will be pointless hunting for items and other chore activities.

Re: Sony Quietly Shaping Up After Indie Backlash Earlier in the Year

KippDynamite

I don't know how big an issue this ever was, honestly. Insiders like David Jaffe seemed to say that they are amazing to work with and treat everyone pretty well.

My recollection of the complaints from one dev was that Sony wanted trailers on their blog to show PlayStation button prompts rather than the buttons of rival systems. The Horror!

They also complained that they had to write their own blurb explaining their own game if they wanted it featured on the PlayStation blog. Such dismissiveness!

Re: Ubisoft Announces In-Game, Playable NFTs Called Digits

KippDynamite

Actually if you buy an NFT you don't actually buy the digital good, the copyright of it, the ability to reproduce it, or anything else. You own the NFT, which is something made up and only has value because a person buys it. You can't do anything with it other than sell it to someone else.

Honestly it's only a matter of time before they're regulated away. The only reason for a non-insane person to buy one is to launder money, dodge taxes, or for some other illegal reason.

Re: Battlefield to Become a Connected Universe with Multiple Games and Experiences

KippDynamite

Companies make an "Expanded Universe" when each individual component isn't good enough to work on it's own.

It's also designed to induce Fear Of Missing Out but I suspect people care more about the fate of Iron Man in Avengers than they do about the tank in Apex Legends. I doubt this will work on these fairly generic video game franchises.

Though I suppose Smash Bros. proves me wrong.

This seems to be following the eternal trend of getting creative with business models when they've run out of creativity for game design.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Thankful for in Gaming?

KippDynamite

My brother got a PlayStation for the first time recently. I've been trying to convince him for many years, but the Wii left such a bad taste in his mouth he left gaming.

But he has a PS5 now and we talk (via the controller) quite frequently now! I play my game and pin his to the side of my screen, and we spend the evening talking and playing, just like when we were kids.

Re: Best PS4 Survival Games

KippDynamite

Shout out to The Forest. The AI is among the best in the business and makes combat (the actual survival) fun and engaging.

It's also not randomly generated - the game takes place on a carefully curated island with hidden caves and items, and it's just more cohesive than most survival games.
