This is also the same site championing rereleases PS4 games on PS5 even though we have a cheaper way to play them on a system we already own. And that's not including how "essential" the PS5 Pro is now either.
You missed the point. Was the PlayStation Classic a waste of money when you could just get the games on PS3?
@Reeneman The PS5 actually had 8K on the box at launch.
Not that anyone believed it. It also had 4K, which some people believed. That one kinda came true, like how Switch 2 says 4K and 120fps. It certainly could. It just won't.
Given how Layton was also an exclusive until it wasn't, assume the timed part of this exclusivity runs out before it actually releases, like most Nintendo timed exclusives lately.
This article is a bit confusing. It says Tales of Berseria dropped in February, and this announcement was made a month after Tales of Xillia....stating the announcement was teased back in February.
Back when I did game development there were things I wish I could just push a button, have the software do it for me, and then check it over and make little tweaks after.
3D modelling for instance, I'd make a model, get it pretty much there, but then removing excess vertices so the model was more efficient.l is a nightmare! Or texture aligning.
Even basic things like quickly populating foliage in a scene, or trees, or environment details that can then be tweaked instead of manually placed, taking up time.
If games are gonna keep getting bigger, the grass doesn't need to be placed by hand.
But it can't replace the actual creative work that goes into making assets, code and the such.
But it would be good for testers to not have to spend two years running into every corner in a room over and over to see if it breaks. Find a bug, get an AI to try and replicate it across multiple instances at once, don't waste someone's time sat there playing one instance of the game over and over.
The brand is strong. It'll sell as the "default" tethered to a wall box.
It's got games coming, including GTA6.
All they need to do is knock 100 of your regional currency off the price close to that launching, everyone forgets it was cheaper in March than in April, jump at the chance of a "deal", and it'll sell.
So yes it'll pass the PS4. The fact this generation has been more profitable than the last 4 combined is ludicrous but shows how much the price increases don't seem to matter to Sony fans.
After all, you had headsets at launch, then new more expensive ones a few years in but those don't work with the PS Portal so here's a third set okay thank you now buy a disc drive too.
It'll sell. It's late stage capitalism. Sony could eat the cost, but they won't. They exist to make money. If profit margins go down that's bad, and historically cost of production has been an inverse bell curve, so prices come down.
Even if cost of production did come down, I don't see prices coming down. Nintendo got the Switch past 155m at full price permanently, and you can bet it got cheaper to produce over time. The margins only got wider, and the coffers got fuller.
Eat it up folks, this is the endgame, and we all know it.
It's time to focus on lower affordable specs and stop building games to be unachievable juggernauts that takes hundreds of millions to make and years to produce.
Cheaper hardware, lower specs, cheaper games to make.
I...uh....7 God damn years? Are we mad? Genre redefining titles have come out faster!
Jesus Christ Naughty Dog. Just make a game! It doesn't need to be the reinvention of Christianity and a theological study into the mind of a mad man gripping onto his dream of Hollywood like a limpet on a whales arse.
If the retailers already have the stock, why not sell it through at that price if you can, then when they need to buy more, buy less at the marked up price to prevent excess supply
1080p and blurry in the same sentence. Aight then.
Anyway, yeah DF are far from the gospel now, especially after the Switch 2 pre release mess, where they said DLSS wouldn't work unless a mythical lighter version existed which Nvidia has no reason to make. Both of those claims got debunked pretty fast.
The DLSS5 thing was just cherry on top.
Games journalism is going downhill. Either it's AI, owned by Ziff or tied to Hookshot at which point it seems to have a hard on for negativity and exaggerating the reality of a situation.
@nhSnork Probably because they're putting out mobile titles and apps as they see fit for the rest of the brand, not ASAP in volume for money.
Plus they partnered with, and invested in, long term already established developers in mobile, as well as formed new subsidiaries to assist like Nintendo Systems with DeNA.
It's weird, that the massive, much larger, more streamlined company with multiple subsidiaries for tech, gaming, phones, TVs, music, anime....can't get any of this to work together cohesively, but the smaller, gaming first coming can branch out successfully into animation, movies, concerts, theme parks, mobile....all because it did it slowly....and it's all under one roof.
It's crazy but it shows the difference in mentality between the two. Both have strengths and weaknesses but when it comes to IP expansion, one has it down to an art. Looks like Star Fox, a B tier IP after the SNES tech showcase, is next up for it.
That implies that once the cost of production and supply stabilises, or comes down, the prices of consumer goods will also come down, instead of staying roughly where it is and acting as higher profits at a new normalised price.
Shame this franchise is dead. So much they could do going back to the more platformer elements (that never left, even Lost Frontier had them) but it all got sidetracked because GTA.
The Company doesnt and will not thank you for your hard work, or help you if you need it. But they will get involved if you do a bad job. That's how it works in retail over here at least.
You are a cog in a machine, and you can be replaced if it makes the machine cheaper and smaller to run,
@LowDefAl He absolutely should be shown the door, but so should Jade Raymond. All she's done is hop from publisher to publisher, never releasing anything and setting up studios that inevitably falter before putting a game out.
Why Sony acquired her studio we will never know, because you could see it coming. It's like hiring Phil Harrison to launch a platform: just don't.
Having experienced Monster Hunter Wilds on PC, where the FIRST THING it asks is you please turn on Frame Generation...uh...no thanks.
It adds so much latency at lower frame rates it's insane. It's a cool tech, but much like DLSS and FSR, it has its place, alongside good optimisation, not in place of it.
@get2sammyb Except we haven't seen their full first years sales yet, and its on pace to be record breaking for the industry, so the idea it was all condensed at the start is nuts to me.
Sure, the games line up has been hit or miss with quality, but the games just won't slow down in general.
It's like at Black Friday, everyone was bemoaning the Switch 2 had flopped when it was outsold by the PS5 on Black Friday, but what that data didn't show was the Switch sold consistently over the month, but was outsold by cheap PS5s that week.
So month on month paints one picture, longer periods paint another.
Also, older established system outsells newer one with smaller library. Like how Switch outsold PS5, and now PS5 outsells Switch 2. Switch 2 will probably be outselling PS6. The generations are now offset.
Makes you wonder why they bothered with Switch 2 and especially Xbox versions. One seemed like more effort than it's worth and the other is a dying platform.
Just because it's not EVERY format doesn't mean it's not a multiplatform release.
I think you guys need to reconsider what they meant, because you clearly took it as "Everything on everything especially PS5" when Xbox and Nintendo fans seem to have took it as "On more than just one platform".
Which is the definition of multiplatform.
Also, can we talk about the absolute hilarity of this site, when in one day there's an article b******g about this, but also mocking PC gamers wanting games ported to them?
@CaptainWow I just went and re-read my posts and no, I dont suggest the content be changed, just explaining my reasons for not liking the content.
Changing content just....no? There's no need to do that.
I'm also colour blind, I'm not asking for devs to properly colour balance games to accomodate me, or anyone else like me, because that's a VERY wide spectrum (And also impossible, even most colour blind modes....dont do it right for every person), so I just make do.
It's also funny when streaming games when I can't see something, but that's the fun part.
Did I say, in my original post, I'd like someone to do something about it, like amend a games content? No.
My post was about the specific "grow up" comments above, and that while that's a lovely sentiment, it's also not the right thing to say.
It's not a case of "we'll get over it you baby" or "be brave for once" it's "I avoid this for a reason, and it's a shame, but I have my reasons, and you could appreciate that and move on".
I don't want the games to change, because they exist to please their audience, just as weird niche games exist for me and others. You can appreciate art and things you don't like, like I wish Switch 2 users would with games not called Mario or Zelda this year: games aren't for you, but they are for someone, and you can be cool with that and appreciate what they bring to the table.
But to look down on people who don't like horror, or have issues with jump scares, or the themes of a game and what have you in such a way isn't right. We're not advocating for it to be changed, just don't have a go and be derogatory when we say we aren't interested or "I wish I could play that".
Jesus Christ I've joined the woke social squad. Time for an impromptu shower. 🤣

I love everyone calls it Game Freak's next game, when they've gone on record and said it's really not.
It's Pokémon developer Game Freak's small team of producers managing numerous other studios to make a game.
Which seemingly makes a better game than they actually can. Though most of their in house non Pokémon games were also not exactly glowing.
