Re: Capcom Endures Some Truly Incredible Monster Hunter Wilds Investor Questions

Haruki_NLI

@ChrisDeku That depends how you measure that success.

Here we have Rise just shy of 15m on one platform, then on PC a year later, then other consoles long after that. World has been on sale for twice as long, across three platforms since the start, and hit 25m.

So in raw numbers, yes World was a bigger success. But if you say "sales were non existent on Xbox and PS4" then surely Rise as a set of staggered releases over half the time selling over half as much mainly from only two platforms is a greater success?

Re: Boba, Bare Feet, and Bins Headline Honkai: Star Rail's Big PS5 Update

Haruki_NLI

Those sure were a lot of words I don't understand.

All I know is those characters have some massive Honkais. I mean honkers. That's all I get when I see the name.

Same with Nongshim Impact. I mean Gangnam Impact....damn kids these days.

And the latest in the....anime cinematic universe has the hashtag of zzz which... Yeah I do need sleep.

And what about that Wuthering Heights? Is that the same people or is this the new gaming trend along with brown samurai action games?

Re: PS5 Simply Can't Match the Pace of 2023 in Europe

Haruki_NLI

It's damning that the Xbox Series is declining slower than the now 7.5 year old full price Nintendo Switch.

With two SKUs, one at times cheaper than the Switch.

And yeah, it's percentage of sales decline, but let's be real, the Xbox Series wasn't exactly outpacing the Switch in units last year you'd figure.

Re: Talking Point: Was Sony Right to Resist Adding PS5 Exclusives to PS Plus Day One?

Haruki_NLI

It certainly is baffling, but this is the problem with subscriptions, you hit that wall and all you can do is extract more money.

Same with games. Only so many people you can sell to before you have to start getting money elsewhere.

And actually, there is one subscription that didnt go up in price (Yet!): NSO. All they did was add another tier. The base tier is still getting new games and a new system last year, nothing has been removed apart from Pac-Man 99 so Bandai could try their own version that bombed, and the price remains $20 a year.

Will the price go up? Yes. But the fact it hasn't yet is......baffling.

Re: PS5, PS4's New PS2 Emulator Fails to Pass Tech Test

Haruki_NLI

@MFTWrecks Probably because of licensing, namely most emulators are open source and under license so using one of those requires giving it away as per the terms, i.e for free.

As for hiring the guys, maybe that's an option, but that's a lot of work to do with a disjointed GitHub based team.

There is also the risk of precedent. As with everything in the legally grey-ish area that hasn't been updated since technology was invented, there's a good chance that one person could go "see, they endorsed it by hiring these guys on" and then boom, you're in a place these companies don't want to be.

Regardless of your opinion on that, the businesses don't want that. It's the same with fan games. You could hire em, but you can also lessen your hold on your IP by showing that hey that's okay do what you want with it.

I imagine someone could reasonably challenge SEGA for being so lax with fan games after all.

But who knows, I'm probably wrong. Usually am.

Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet

Haruki_NLI

It was the first one I've tuned into in a good while, and it was quite a lot of brown Asia settings with samurai action, Silent Hill 2 looking rough, two framey as hell VR games, Overwatch, Marvel's Overwatch, and Astro.

And holy hell, after that middle section of Asia aesthetic samurai games just....blending together in a weird soup (I couldn't tell you what was what in there) Astro stood out like a neon city in the void of space.

That kind of just....whimsy and fun, that filled the PS1 and 2 and most of the PS3 that made me personally a PS fan (I started with the PS1 long before I got another brand in my life outside of the Mega Drive) has just evaporated from a whole load of ....single player narrative experiences.

And that's cool, that's what ya wanna focus on, but variety breeds a strong platform.

Re: Dragon Quest 3's HD-2D Remake Re-Emerges for PS5

Haruki_NLI

@Rob3008 I know Switch is the biggest platform Japan has ever had, that's what I meant by "Of course it should release of the biggest platform Japan has ever had."

But youd also think theyd release it on the 11 year old more capable system thats still widely used the world over too, for extra money.

Re: Dragon Quest 3's HD-2D Remake Re-Emerges for PS5

Haruki_NLI

@LikelySatan To be fair, from the publishers view, its a remake of Dragon Quest 3, of course it should release on the biggest platform Japan has ever had. That'd just be leaving money on the table.

But to not also put it on a still massively used, more capable but older machine that is used widely worldwide? Odd.

Re: Dragon Quest 3's HD-2D Remake Re-Emerges for PS5

Haruki_NLI

I imagine it's more that Erdrick is one of the big characters of the series, and is where it really took off, thus were it begins.

Like how Persona began at 3 in the public consciousness.

And weird how this is now skipping PS4. But also still coming out on a tablet.

Re: Sony Predicts Slide in PS5 Sales with No Major Existing IPs Planned Before March 2025

Haruki_NLI

@themightyant We do.

Miyanoto said in an interview that BOTW needed to sell 2m units to start being profitable after 6 years of development. That puts it around $120m.

Plus also consider, Mario Kart 8 has sold 60m units. Plus DLC. All that money isn't being funneled exclusively into the next one. It's being spread around for smaller titles, more niche games, library fillers. That's how they work the business.

Big hits fund smaller titles for variety and bulk out the library.

Sony's problem, and the industry at large, is the budgets are so damn high they only have the option of profits going exclusively into the next game because they can't sell enough to have enough funds to spread around.

Re: The Game Awards Is Getting Ripped for Urging Award Winners to Wrap It Up

Haruki_NLI

The industry makes more money than Hollywood yet he insists on bringing out Hollywood people to pull views to get that ad revenue and more eyes on trailers, yet only gives some, not all, award winners 30 seconds to speak.

But if we had more time to the people behind the games and not the content creators, eSports players and the voice actors, and more time to the award winners in a similar timeslot that he keeps giving Kojima, then the people behind the games could become as big as the Hollywood names and it'll all work out.

And sure, it'd drag on, but its already 4 damn hours of ads for crying out loud. It drags on as it is.

For a show that wants to award the best games and the best the industry has, we sure dont see them.

Re: Sony Delays Six Live Service PS5 Games, But Company Remains Committed to Model

Haruki_NLI

@get2sammyb Agreed that the money COULD fund loads of other single player games.

But, doing 12 at once? That's a lot of development cost, and we already know Deviation Games had theirs canned, so thats already sunk costs to be recovered by whichever of the twelve is successful.

But then, saying you're going to realise 12 and hope one sticks....that's not inspiring confidence. That's saying quite plainly, throw it at the wall and see if it sticks, and with that knowledge that they most probably intend to can the 11 unsuccessful ones, why would you even bother getting invested in any of the games at all?

If it was three or four, sure. But 12? That's insane, and should the first 6 not land, then is there going to be any faith in the latter 6? Especially when the two we DO know of actually releasing anytime soon are Jade "Hasn't released a game in a decade" Raymond's "Transforming multiplayer" game that's just Payday, and whatever the hell Concorde is.
