Nintendo had this issue once. So they took a look around and made a system people want to buy games for and play on that isn't just "The Other Guy But Lesser".
@nessisonett Secret Agent Klunk is surprisingly relevant to this game...
But yeah, this game is BAD. Like actually awful.
Same weapon problems as in Size Matters, the bolt economy is even worse to the point the PS2 version release later not only completely fixed that but also remodelled and retextured loads of the game, its a gameplay roulette of ideas doesnt mix with levelling up your weapons that do jack all damage, it wants to reward stealth but then your weapons dont level up for bosses, and then there's the bonus content.
Oh. My. God. Every stage has hidden invisible glyphs in challenge mode that you need to stop and scan with special glasses. How do you know where they are? Get looking. Could be on a random wall in the background, on the floor, behind you, or under a ledge in an autoscroller. Good luck! And thats just to unlock the High Impact Treehouse.
To unlock everything in THERE you need to find three coloured key cards hidden often over bottomless pits you need to leap of faith towards or activate a secret launch point for one of them IIRC that you cant even see. If you get those, you get the Dallas Challas that once per stage fully heals you....if you know the code to activate it.
Enjoy getting the Platinum folks. It absolutely sucks.
@GamingFan4Lyf Astal Chain, Ring Fit Adventure, Sushi Striker and Ever Oasis are all newer IP than ARMS, and they have been on a tear of reviving decades old IP like F-Zero, Another Code, Advance Wars, Famicom Detective Club and Endless Ocean just because they seemingly felt like it.
So there's really no excuse to keep pushing forward with new IP and not also reinvent and evolve the older ones.
@Cambrius If I was a Fairgame$ developer I'd be flashing my CV at any opportunity.
Sony bought Haven for that game that so far looks like generic Payday, which is eerily reminiscent of Firewall here: no games, live service title, seems generic as hell.
Plus with Jade Raymond at the helm, who hasn't released a game in over a decade, is ex Unisoft and Google Stadia...yeah I'd probably be job hunting.
Giving the PS4 Pro an extra layer of cake and overclocking the already god awful CPU, pairing it with a beefier GPU and sticking a larger heatsink inside to cool it and call it a day while the thing achieves flight.
Or giving the already increasingly expensive PS5 some Go Faster Stripes and charging an extra $100 or more.
God knows why they opted for not only moving away from two very profitable brands, with exclusives games on the most popular current system, and other licensed titles everywhere else, in favour of a mobile game also ported to PC and NFTs.
If it is, we would greatly prefer the PS2 version, which apart from the better controls the PSP couldnt manage, they actually rebalanced a few things in the game, including how many bolts you earn. So you go from perpetual poor, to actually buying stuff.
Also, good luck with the Platinum trophy. If you thought buying the RYNO at the bolt cap and doing at least two NG+ runs of Size Matters was bad, this game has invisible well hidden codes to find in NG+, and three super hidden keycards the game never mentions that unlocks an item that you can use only via a cheat code.
I tried seeing what this one was about since these guys seem to churn these games out at the rate of a chinese sweatshop making clothes, so I checked out the trending hashtag on Not-Twitter.

So I can only assume whats next for the game is more scantily clad women with massive Honkais....I mean honkers, and blokes with throbbing Star Rails.

Trying to get Waifu Bait into the Olympics. Bold strategy cotton, let's see if there's any audience crossover....nope, nope, you've just confused the middle aged white women
@ChrisDeku That depends how you measure that success.
Here we have Rise just shy of 15m on one platform, then on PC a year later, then other consoles long after that. World has been on sale for twice as long, across three platforms since the start, and hit 25m.
So in raw numbers, yes World was a bigger success. But if you say "sales were non existent on Xbox and PS4" then surely Rise as a set of staggered releases over half the time selling over half as much mainly from only two platforms is a greater success?
It certainly is baffling, but this is the problem with subscriptions, you hit that wall and all you can do is extract more money.
Same with games. Only so many people you can sell to before you have to start getting money elsewhere.
And actually, there is one subscription that didnt go up in price (Yet!): NSO. All they did was add another tier. The base tier is still getting new games and a new system last year, nothing has been removed apart from Pac-Man 99 so Bandai could try their own version that bombed, and the price remains $20 a year.
Will the price go up? Yes. But the fact it hasn't yet is......baffling.
@MFTWrecks Probably because of licensing, namely most emulators are open source and under license so using one of those requires giving it away as per the terms, i.e for free.
As for hiring the guys, maybe that's an option, but that's a lot of work to do with a disjointed GitHub based team.
There is also the risk of precedent. As with everything in the legally grey-ish area that hasn't been updated since technology was invented, there's a good chance that one person could go "see, they endorsed it by hiring these guys on" and then boom, you're in a place these companies don't want to be.
Regardless of your opinion on that, the businesses don't want that. It's the same with fan games. You could hire em, but you can also lessen your hold on your IP by showing that hey that's okay do what you want with it.
I imagine someone could reasonably challenge SEGA for being so lax with fan games after all.
@Jayslow It was a fantastic achievement for Vicarious Visions. Hope they're thrilled with what they accomplished and are happy making....oh they're part of Blizzard now.
It was the first one I've tuned into in a good while, and it was quite a lot of brown Asia settings with samurai action, Silent Hill 2 looking rough, two framey as hell VR games, Overwatch, Marvel's Overwatch, and Astro.
And holy hell, after that middle section of Asia aesthetic samurai games just....blending together in a weird soup (I couldn't tell you what was what in there) Astro stood out like a neon city in the void of space.
That kind of just....whimsy and fun, that filled the PS1 and 2 and most of the PS3 that made me personally a PS fan (I started with the PS1 long before I got another brand in my life outside of the Mega Drive) has just evaporated from a whole load of ....single player narrative experiences.
And that's cool, that's what ya wanna focus on, but variety breeds a strong platform.
Somehow, and call it a hunch here, the woman behind early Assassins Creed, the first Watch Dogs disaster, Assassins Creed Unity Bugfest and even Star Wars Battlefront 2, who hasnt successfully released a game for the past 7 years and counting, might not deliver on this.
@Rob3008 I know Switch is the biggest platform Japan has ever had, that's what I meant by "Of course it should release of the biggest platform Japan has ever had."
But youd also think theyd release it on the 11 year old more capable system thats still widely used the world over too, for extra money.
@LikelySatan To be fair, from the publishers view, its a remake of Dragon Quest 3, of course it should release on the biggest platform Japan has ever had. That'd just be leaving money on the table.
But to not also put it on a still massively used, more capable but older machine that is used widely worldwide? Odd.

@Ralizah Nintendo isn't doing much with the IP? They released remakes last year.

The disparity in site comments is wild.
The Nintendo site: Well Nintendo isn't doing anything with Advance Wars. Hope this will be a better game than what they make.

Re: Floatopia Could Surpass Animal Crossing on PS5
I mean yeah, Nintendo ceased development on New Horizons.
It was delayed into COVID, and the same team that makes that then went on to Splatoon 3, who are now probably making the next Animal Crossing.
So its like....yeah, cut support for the game short was probably the best option.

Re: PS5 Sales Reach 60 Million Milestone, Now at 61.7 Million Consoles Sold
PS5 sells 2.4m in a quarter in its 4th year, down year on year, behind it's predecessor at the same time "strong sales".
Switch sells 2.1m in a quarter in its 8th year at full price, down year on year "poor sales and demand has slowed".
Weird world we live in.
And then there's Xbox.
Poor, poor Xbox. Down 40% one year then another 30% the following year. Imagine going from 1m a quarter to 600k, then down to 420k a quarter. Yikes

And yeah, it's percentage of sales decline, but let's be real, the Xbox Series wasn't exactly outpacing the Switch in units last year you'd figure.
