That's right — Game Freak, the studio best known for the hugely popular Pokémon series, has just announced Beast of Reincarnation, an action RPG coming to PS5.
The game looks like a pretty hardcore action RPG (potentially with some Soulslike tropes), and by your side will be a dog companion.
Set in post-apocalyptic Japan, you play as Emma on a quest to save humanity from extinction in a strange landscape.
It features "demanding, technical combat" and, as the bond between Emma and her canine sidekick grows, they'll unlock new abilities.

It sounds pretty cool, and it's obviously a huge departure for Game Freak. The team has made things other than Pokémon, of course, but this feels like a big step into totally new territory.
What do you make of Beast of Reincarnation? Tell us in the comments section below.

I really, really hope it's not a soulslike. Not in the terms of difficulty, but without stamina meter, bonfires, corpse runs and all that sh*t.
Announce for everything but Nintendo Switch 2 😬, surely they would want one of their closest second party studios to showcase what the Switch 2 can do with this game.
I would be cautious with any game coming from GameFreak.
GameFreak made this game to prove to everyone that they can make good looking games
Also ofc a game made by them would have framedrops in the trailer lol
Oh damn. That's actually crazy Game Freak is working on a project like this. I know better than most about all of their other games they've put out in the past few years, but I didn't expect anything like this.
Looks rad. I really like the combination feudal Japanese esthetics mixed with robots and sci-fi. I'm not a Pokémon fan, I've only played one Game Freak title - remember Tembo the Badass Elephant!?
@UltimateOtaku91 Nintendo has no say in what GameFreak does with other publishers or internally.
In fact, GameFreak making a game for a Nintendo system by choice is.....almost unheard of. Everything they self published or did with other publishers wouldnt touch Nintendo hardware. They only do Pokemon because they own one third of the IP and the IP states main series games on Nintendo.
But weirdly, even then, Nintendo gets nothing from say, Pokemon GO, so if they really wanted to, they could probably put it on mobile instead.
Honestly, I hope this becomes successful for them and prove to everyone that they aren't just here to make Pokemon games. While it is their bread and butter but sometimes, they just need to make something else.
I was honestly surprised that the Game Freak logo popped up since I didn't expect the makers of Pokemon to develop this game
@UltimateOtaku91 Outside of Pokemon Game Freak is free to make whatever games for whatever platforms they want. In the past they made an exclusive game for Mega Drive published by SEGA and another for PlayStation published by Sony Music Entertainment. Tempo The Badass Elephant, another game developed by Game Freak in 2015, released on PS4, Xbox One and PC but skipped Wii U and 3DS. Giga Wrecker and Pocket Card Jockey were also made for mobile first by them before releasing on Switch later
Finally a worth game getting from game freak because the last few of pokemon was straight ass for me pokemon peaked in the mid 2010 now is just whatever
@Haruki_NLI @Sam_ATLUS Thanks for the info, I didn't know they were making so many other games other than Pokémon. Infact I've even got one wishlisted on PS5 called Little Town Hero that I never realised was made by them.
Gives me vibes of Wild Hearts, Nier Automata, and Wo Long, which I like.
@Dalamar: From what I heard the game has been explicitly stated to be an action-adventure rather then an Action RPG or soulslike (of course, from the looks of it there are likely to be ARPG elements). I'm not 100 procent certain about the source though so don't take my word on it.
I love the combination of tech and nature in a game, this is one I will be looking out for, hopefully they do a good job.
Also very optimistic suggesting humanity still has 2000 years until extinction, have they looked around lately?
It looks great, I was surprised they skipped Switch 2 but I think they don't want to be held down by hardware and want to go all out. They want to show the world they aren't just that Pokemon studio.
@Juanalf They've been trying for years and most of the time its a critical meh and commercial bomb.
It's black myth sequel.not it looks good.word up son
Now I understand why they were just spending the %5 of dev budget for each Pokemon game so that they can have money to do something like this./s
This looks pretty damn cool. Hopefully it's met with more than just the usual reaction of 'okay great. Where's the next pokemon?'
Looks amazing how does Pokémon look so bad lol
Looks like something to at least keep my eye on. Will have to see how this looks and reviews upon release.
This actually looks great, reminds me of nier automata, I'm hyped. So game freak can make a game with good great graphics it seems
Looks really cool. Hope it turns out good, but the state of those recent Pokemon games makes me reeeeeal skeptical
Is it just me that the face protags looks like Eve from Stellar Blade?
It looks good though.
@ear_wig afaik almost all of their non-pokemon titles are meh at the absolute best.
I think there's one exception on...Wii or NDS but that was close to 20 years ago now. They're not a particularly good dev studio and I doubt this will turn out that different from the rest.
Performance aside (in the trailer, really?), this looks pretty badass. Combat looks stylish, great aesthetic, wolfy dog companion, I’m intrigued!
I doubt this will be very good Game Freak are a terrible developer
Well, as someone told me, this is what happens, when the Pokemon Company, isn't involved, with their small budgets.
I think this looks INSANELY good. I’m all for it and will be buying day one if it continues the positive momentum.
@Haruki_NLI Could you elaborate on that last paragraph about Nintendo getting nothing from Pokemon Go?
@Jamie64326 Nintendo has stated in their financial reports that Pokemon GO doesnt impact their revenue from the mobile sector. Despite the fact it should and does pull more money than Fire Emblem Heroes, it doesnt get counted, because they dont get any revenue from it. It all goes to TPC and Niantic.
@Haruki_NLI Wouldn't it impact their revenue? They're a co-owner of the Pokemon IP. Something will or should be going back directly to them or maybe under The Pokemon Company name.
@Jamie64326 So it turns out I was slightly off, and that Nintendo gets an estimated 10%-20% of the game's revenue, simply out of licensing, though how that's been calculated I am unsure. But they also never mention it with their mobile stuff, so I imagine its quite a drop in the bucket.
TPC and Niantic will take the bulk of it regardless. However much TPC gives to each of its three stakeholders will be unknown given its privately owned and doesnt need to disclose that info.
Point being though, Pokemon is a bit of a weird oddity. Nintendo doesnt really get much of a say it feels like, especially when you hear that the CEO of TPC told Nintendo the Switch would fail and he'd rather just keep making games for 3DS and mobile.
They also had Pokemon amiibo for Smash: These infamously dont work in games. In Yoshi's Woolly World they give a generic amiibo t-shirt, but stuff like Cloud of all things gives a character appropriate costume. If SquareEnix is easier to license stuff from than a company you in part OWN, then you dont actually have that much influence.
@Haruki_NLI I guess Nintendo got the last laugh when the CEO said the Switch would fail. Also, what a messy relationship between Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, especially when they co-own them.
@Jamie64326 Yeah, even stuff like Super Mario Maker had Pokemon costumes that were sprites only, no sound effects or anything unique like the rest....which were again, largely other companies IP, and some not even gaming at all. Mercedez for gods sake!
TPC doesnt really play nice, and its quite obvious when you see all the mobile games and partnerships they do independantly without ever mentioning Nintendo. Sometimes I think they put some of those games on hardware because itd look odd if they didnt.
Look really noice. I can see myself purchasing this.
@Dalamar seems exactly that, if you removed the name for the video and watched it, it would definitely give off that vibes, anyways meh I guess.
