Arcade Archives 2 Receives a Big Price Hike with Ridge Racer on PS5 1

While the price of Hamster’s various Arcade Archives titles does vary depending on each individual license, they’ve generally cost around $7.99 on the PS Store.

But Bandai Namco’s NebulasRay was a recent exception, retailing for $14.99, and Ridge Racer will continue that trend of rising prices.

The first in the Japanese developer’s Arcade Archives 2 lineup, the coin-op classic will cost $16.99 on the PS5. You’ll also be able to get the standard Arcade Archives version for $14.99 on the PS4. If you purchase the PS4 edition and want to upgrade to the PS5 edition later, it’ll cost you $2.99.

Arcade Archives 2 on the PS5 adds some extra functionality compared to Arcade Archives on the PS4, including Time Attack Mode, rewind, multiple save states, and VRR.

But when you consider that the emulated version of Ridge Racer Type-4 for PS1 costs $9.99 on the PS Store, this does strike us as quite a lot of money. We understand Hamster has to pay Bandai Namco’s licensing fee, and we’re happy it’s putting in the work to preserve these titles – but $16.99 seems like a lot for a relatively bare bones arcade port.

Still, this is one of the greatest arcade racers of all time, we suppose. We’re probably going to buy it anyway.
