Re: ANTHEM's Trophy List Looks Like an Easy Platinum

AyanamiReign

At one point I was quite into getting trophies, they added extra challenges and play-time to good games if done well. Nowadays I'm happy to just find the time to finish a game and get to the credits.
It feels weird not having trophies in Nintendo games, in some ways trophies feel like you're being rewarded for accomplishing something, even if it doesn't actually amount to anything.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of Apex Legends?

AyanamiReign

What made Fortnite so big? It was free so no-one had any excuses not to give it a try and with friends these sorts of games are good fun.
Fortnite wasn't really my thing though, aesthetically and with the building and being 3rd person. Blackout is good but Apex blows it out of the water imo, and it didn't cost me anything! The map is way more interesting, the movement and guns feel great. The ping system is genius, you can play with randoms, not talk and still communicate effectively and win.
The different characters add variety and complement certain play-styles without any being OP (yet). There are so many small improvements over other BR titles that add up to something that's just more fun and refreshing to play.

^ When you start the game put on draconian setting: Stronger Monsters. The game for the most part is too easy otherwise. Unless you don't want a challenge.
The soundtrack can be altered on PC to the fully orchestrated version that was later released if the MIDI quality is a problem and you're on that platform. Personally I was humming along after a while and enjoy the music.

News: DOA is still DOA. If you liked earlier entries you'll like this one.
It is funny how Soulcalibur is just as full of fan-service, in fact probably more so with custom characters, yet DOA gets more flack. On that note, the new mechanics in DOA felt less intrusive than Soul Calibur's repeated RE and CE cut-scenes when I tried the beta.

Re: Soapbox: Ubisoft Has Earned The Division a Second Shot

AyanamiReign

I really enjoyed Destiny and having a new co-op looter shooter to look forward to I was hyped for The Division.
Instead of enjoying it I learnt that a looter shooter needs interesting weapons & armour to earn but everything looked the same. The location of the game also got incredibly dull and the enemies unvaried and tedious.
The gameplay cover system was alright and the interface was really cool but that's about it.
The reviews for no. 2 would have to be outstanding for me to give the series another go.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: #4 - Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

AyanamiReign

Sylvando is hilarious, his story arc in Act 2 was great. All the characters are pretty solid actually, I assumed I'd find Veronica annoying but nope.
Slow pacing? I started DQ after Red Dead and my god it felt wonderfully fast in comparison being able to get places quickly and fast travel easily.
The music I initially was a bit put off by but as the game went on it grew on me and I couldn't stop humming it lol.
Only criticism I have is you can't turn on 'stronger monsters' difficulty mid-game and it's been pretty easy without but I'm not starting the game again.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: Sammy's Personal Picks

AyanamiReign

RDR2 had some fun moments, it's just that it's boring moments far, far outweighed them. A normal fast travel system would have made the game waste less of my time.
Eventually the story got really good, which made up for how boring the game had been (most of the time) up till then but it took a really long time to get there.

Re: Rumour: 'Beastly' PS5 Dev Kits in the Wild, But Not Due Until 2020

AyanamiReign

People remember how Microsoft tried to bundle the kinect with every console then removed it to lower the price and match the PS4 right?
My guess is the controller has a camera, like the light bar. Everything else needed for VR will be sold separately.

2020 seems like the right time for a new console, hopefully fully backwards compatible with PS4 games this time.

Re: Poll: Do You Buy and Play Single Player Story DLC?

AyanamiReign

By the time DLC comes out I've moved on to new games.
Once I've finished and enjoyed a game, I don't really want to go back and there shouldn't be any need to add more content to a complete story/game.
I also don't tend to replay games, with all the new titles coming out and how big they are there's no time.

Re: Poll: One Week Later, Is Red Dead Redemption 2 the Best Game of 2018?

AyanamiReign

The visuals and audio are amazing. The controls could be better. The pacing is really slow, I wish the fast travel worked both directions. I also wish the auto-horse-riding didn't run people over and get me a bounty on my head and other annoyances...
The story from the sounds of it gets better, though I'm finding it difficult to care that much about the gang. Even my own character feels schizophrenic, I'm choosing to be honorable and help people stuck on the side of the road then forced in a story mission to massacre most of a town...

Pretty sure it's not going to be my GOTY.

Re: Sony Underfire in Renewed PS4 Censorship Row

AyanamiReign

I don't feel like Sony should be making these calls.
That game that was banned in the UK? That's up the ratings boards to decide. They (I'd hope) are in a better position to judge content than Sony.
With some games it's fair enough but I'm reminded of silly little changes that Nintendo always made when localizing games... We're not all kids you know.

Re: Hands On: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Is One of the Best Multiplayer Games This Generation

AyanamiReign

I'm surprised it's getting such good reviews. Wish I could just try the game out and see if it's worth buying.
I like CoD, I've bought every installment since MW but:
Not sure I like the healing mechanic in the normal multiplayer, ending an engagement and having to in many cases reload and heal just means more down-time in which you'll get shot whilst being unable to do anything about it.
Not sure if I'd like Blackout, I got bored of Fortnite.
Don't play zombies and there's no campaign.

Re: Round Up: Assassin's Creed Odyssey PS4 Reviews Paint an Epic Picture

AyanamiReign

I thought Origins was a really good game though I started off doing all the side content and by... half way? I just made a bee-line for the main story's end as I started to get fatigued.
Even the Witcher, I explored and did everything up to Skellige then just needed to finish the game already lol
Better to have too much content than feel short changed.
