I feel like the people that predominantly buy physical and are less likely to buy an all-digital PS6 overlaps massively with the 'hardcore gamers who are willing to spend more than ever' that Sony are targeting...
We saw what happened to XBox, this could easily go really badly for Sony. Not right now but when the next console comes out and it's super expensive and digital-only. I expect a lot of people to not be interested due to the price and then even more people to be considering PC instead since Sony's policies regarding digital goods are terrible.
Those left, able to afford a pricy console but not interested in PC - If XBox and Sony both go all in on digital so there's no other option... Won't be much of an install base for PS6.
I've played and enjoyed Gears games in the past but I wouldn't consider it a system seller, I'm certainly not going to get an XBox for it. I'll buy every Nintendo console just so I can play Zelda. Sony has exclusives I wouldn't want to miss from Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Insomniac games ect whereas XBox through the whole One and Series generations hasn't had any single exclusives I found worth getting one for. I suppose they would have to make everything they own exclusive including all the ActivitionBlizzard stuff, which I can't see happening considering their install base.
If PC can have online multiplayer with no added costs so should consoles. Not to mention all the F2P games that don't require the sub, it just punishes you for paying for a game.
I absolutely want this for PS5 and feel like it's really weird we still don't have a release date... If it's this year I can see it being too close to another big hitter like Wolverine or GTA, which would suck. The release date XBox got would have been great since it's a bit quiet currently.
It amuses me that Bungie's live service expertise is basically, 'look at all the things we learned from making so, so many mistakes with Destiny'. I wish there was some way for them to make a Halo style Co-op Campaign + multiplayer modes again.
Feels too late though with enough time maybe they could turn things around... If they had stuck to exclusivity through all their mergers and acquisitions I think they could have kept XBox relevant/a compelling option. Now they should probably just concentrate on being a profitable publisher.
Never played a Forza game but the setting has be really hyped for this one, just a shame there's still no confirmed PS5 release date? Hope it's not close to GTA or Wolverine...
My opinion is pretty much what I expected, I love how the game looks, feels and sounds but don't get on with extraction shooters. Wish it was a standard campaign + multiplayer package instead.
It looks great! Unfortunately it's an extraction shooter though. I'll still give it a try next week but Arc Raiders didn't do it for me so hopefully it's different enough from that gameplay loop.
Paying more for early access is one of the most greedy and stupid practices. It ruins the excitement and anticipation of a new release for people that buy games Day 1/full price. These are the people that often matter most for a games sales. Those that don't wait for sales.
My impression after one match (all I had time for on launch night) wasn't great. Yesterday I played again for longer and with a friend this time and had a lot of fun. I feel like the game needs a bit of investment to understand the different phases and aspects (wardens, guns, bases, maps, raid tools) and know what you're meant to be doing to improve your chances of winning and having more fun. No idea what people are complaining about with map size, you get around them fast on a mount and can even teleport to base, near your ally holding a shieldbreaker or on Mara's ult. 3v3 just like in Apex feels like a good number to have things more controlled in a fight. Maybe they could add a 3v3v3 mode in future but the bases would need less health so matches don't run too long, plus the maps have been designed for 2 bases so that wouldn't really work.
Maybe people just want constant action with no base fortification or looting phases? The breather between raid phases helps you reset and prepare so they are there for a reason.
Is there a site that compiles reviews by reviewer regardless of site? That would be really handy to see what else they've played and what they thought to judge how their tastes align with your own.
I like Bungie's FPS games a lot but Arc Raiders showed me that I don't really like Extraction shooters. Too much time spent looting, crafting, managing your inventory and storage, then losing it all and the annoyance of having to start again from scratch...
XBox was forced to do this, both Sony and Nintendo really don't need to. However, if Sony's PC ports are ending up on XBox hardware going forward via Steam there might not be any way for them to avoid having their system sellers on the other guy's system.
Still has the best storytelling for side quests imo, though Baldurs Gate wasn't really my thing so perhaps that's set a new standard for people that played it?
I loved Apex Legends for the first like 3 years but have trailed off and not played it in ages now. Currently enjoying Marvel Rivals. Was actually wishing Marathon was a battle royale instead of an extraction shooter after watching the recent reveal, since I know I like BRs and the extraction genre just doesn't sound as fun to me...
My feelings don't really have an option. Played Worlds when it came out, it was cool, I finished it and had some fun, don't really feel the need to play another one. The story/characters/world weren't that interesting imo. The gameplay loop hooks you though.
Terrible timing from my opinion, I'm still playing Infinity Nikki, I like the look of this but don't have the time for another open world. Also it's lacking the excitement of a new game's launch since it came out on PC ages ago.
This is the most annoying thing about owning a PS5 Pro. Sony confirms a list of games that will be ready for launch, the store updates to show those games are enhanced. Have they been? It's more clear-cut if a new graphical mode to select gets added but it's entirely possible the game could just detect the console you're using and provide a single setting (plus a 120FPS toggle), like how Apex Legends and Fortnite typically have worked (both don't appear to have been patched).
Then it depends on what the developer even wants to do with the patch. Both of the games I mention do run better on a Pro as you'd expect; better holding to the resolution and frame-rate caps instead of getting drops. What you hope however is that they'll implement PSSR and add in some higher graphical settings from the PC versions. More info from devs would help if Sony isn't providing any.
Hardly flaunting it or trying to put a positive spin on in imo, it's just making sure people are aware since there isn't an edition with a disc drive this time.
To be honest this is pretty annoying, swapping between PS, XBox and Nintendo and getting prompts to press X when you've built up muscle memory for one position. Or even just how Nintendo tends to have confirm and cancel in the opposite config...
Sony sent it out to die, true. However up until the reactions to the trailer and then beta tests I think they'd have said the same as they're saying about Fairgames now. Both games will no doubt have big budgets and high production values as well as serviceable gameplay but that certainly wasn't enough to help Concord with it's pricing model and character designs. The cringey tone of that first Fairgames trailer doesn't inspire confidence...
Both Star Wars and this are on my 'I'll get them eventually' list. My plan might have changed if either got like 10s across the board but that hasn't happened.
They aren't wrong. Tons of games to play anyway, but that doesn't make the lack of even any announcements or reveals for whatever all their studios are working on any better.
