When we think about the frontrunners of open world game design, we think of Rockstar, but with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red also moved the genre forward. The Polish team produced an incredible fantasy RPG with a rich, vast world to explore, but how's it feeling about Cyberpunk 2077 now we've had the superlative Red Dead Redemption 2?
The answer is encouraging. During a conference call to investors, the developer was asked if its sci-fi RPG would be as good as Rockstar's latest. "Without a doubt, quality is of paramount importance," said CEO of CD Projekt Red, Adam Kracinski. "We strive to publish games which are as refined as Red Dead Redemption 2, and recent Rockstar releases in general. That game is excellent, by the way, we are rooting for it. Rave reviews, excellent sales."
The studio is shooting for the quality of Red Dead 2 with its next release, which is certainly encouraging to hear. Something that it's conscious of is the importance to launch with as few bugs as possible. Kracinski hopes they can squash most of them before launch: "Once the game is complete, we can begin to patch various bugs, both major and minor, and we are setting aside time to complete this process."
Given what we've already seen of Cyberpunk, and what we know the developer is capable of with The Witcher 3, we have high hopes for the next game from CD Projekt Red. We're not exactly sure how far off the title is, but with high ambitions and clear talent, we think it'll be worth the wait.

CD projeck red, please for the love of god make a 3rd person option for cyberpunk, cnt stand 1st games does my head in
i wonder will this be a cross gen game or will it release on this one only
Okay but Roach couldn't even match the realism and smooth controls of 2010 RDR1's horses. Hope those cars handle well.
So the bugs and glitches and Crappy Combat controls along with it oooo wait you already do all of that.
Aslong as they don't Put a "realism factor" in it such as needing to take care of yourself etc just for the sake of it.
Not that it was a bad thing in red dead, but i just hope that not Every open world game Will do this from now on,because it's just not needed, and it can in Some games make the games less fun.
Come on CDPR dont aim for RDR2, aim for better! A lot of people want this to be the masterpiece we pray for!
I have faith that this will be, for me at least, the greatest game ever played. I am so excited for this one.
@Hapuc That never stopped them from being amazing 10/10 games, though.
@ApostateMage Yeah it kinda makes me wonder why its a 10/10 if the game isnt perfect? So the better games will 11/10 cluncky controls would lose a firstparty a point thats for sure.
@Flaming_Kaiser Christ! This again... I'd want to know where does it state in review policies across all sites all over the internet that a 5 star or 10/10 means perfect, like... where exactly...
Please don't. CP2077 looks good as is, don't try to "match" anything Rockstar does, especially with RDR2.
I'm not the biggest fan of the first person perspective myself either but I'd much prefer playing that way in the congested districts of Night City. It will be so much better for immersive reasons, like CDPR have said.
If there's developers that can match rockstar, it's cd project, can't wait for this game on ps5 (if its 4k and 60 fps on ps5)
@pimpjuice I don't think it would be possible, it's level design wouldn't accommodate it. Games like Fallout, Red Dead and The Witcher had most of its content in wide open spaces whereas Cyberpunk is mostly in a condensed city scape.
The Witcher 3 is better than RDR2...
Being newer RDR2 was of course better visually but gameplay and story? Nah.
@ApostateMage True Which is a shame.
But you know Boring games tend do get GOTY nominations and awards while good games are being left behind.
@AyanamiReign Please, Witcher3 is all about the story to which credit is owed to that author. The combat is repetitive and average. I love Witcher 3 but RDR2 is better.
In RDR2 the controls are clunky and the gameplay more repetitive. In the witcher you have weapons, potions, spells, gear to hunt down that's useful, there's variety in enemies. In RDR2 it's just shooting and you have no need to change from the lancaster revolver for most of the game.
@pimpjuice I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. First person makes me dizzy & ruins the experience, CDPR should be considerate and think about their fans.
From what we've seen so far from the early footage, it's clear that this the quality of the final product could be very high. As long as CDPR do their own thing and don't try to copy Rockstar, then this should be a wonderful game.
@AyanamiReign And the Witcher 3 isn’t clunky? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to run away from a fight & I end up rolling instead, then I get killed. Also, TW3 is a fantasy RPG where RDR2 is a western so there isn’t much combat to be expected outside of shooting.
@JoeBlogs I’m with you on Rockstar and CDPR. But Naughty Dog? No
@AyanamiReign Variety in enemies? Lol... @OmegaYato said it all, you can't exepect a griffin or a fiend in RDR2. There's nothing more annoying than Roach getting blocked by invisible walls. For a game that has your horse being an essential mode of transport, it's sad they didn't pay careful attention to it, felt like an afterthought.
Well The Witcher 3 is a much better game than RDR2 so we don't have anything to worry about there and they definitely don't need to look to Rockstar to learn anything about HDR support
Can't wait to hogtie some androids
so they want it to be a large empty and repetitive open world with dodgy controls?
The people still complaining about 1st person only 😂 I’m going to be enjoying a masterpiece when this comes out while all of you continue to cry about it not playing like a futuristic Witcher!
@FullbringIchigo I mean, I wouldn’t expect an over abundance of people to be roaming about if I were riding around in the Wild West. Don’t know what you expected, but apparently too much. I think the game is brilliant, imo.
@JesWood13 the game was boring and it's not outside of town that feels empty i expected that but the towns themselves, the game looks great though i'll give it that but for me it was the most disappointing game of the year
@pimpjuice wouldnt it be better if they focus on 1st person to make it as polished as possible?
@FullbringIchigo thats would be the 2ed map which i believe you can stay in and just grind of the 1st map
@OmegaYato the game is using pretty old tech wise i hope u understand
@TheArt the author? you mean the creator of Elric correct?
and as for the story most of which was done by dves of CDRED including the best story IMO the heartsofstone where they got much inspiration from spanish story about the devil
@wiiware accoridng to much info its coming next year its possible itll get free dlc graphic patch for pc first then later repacked for rerelease for future consoles
@JoeBlogs rockstar--> sells a ok game and the micros the hell outta thr multiplayer
naughtydog--> i love how they lied about the last of us having animations that were not the game to begin with on thr twitter
@Nifty im pretty sure they already did better if you say the gameplay which destroys witcher 3's gameplay
@ApostateMage never played titanfall 2?
@kingjonelulz I didn't mention Witcher 3. Do you work for CDPR?
@Nifty nope i just do research on them mostly interested in thr next game which one of the CDRED cofounders did not wanna say anything about it in an interview
i hope its about the assassin withcers of the viper school make it like assassin creed but a million time sbetter
The only way they can do that, is if they add 1st and 3d person options.
But can they match RDR2 3rd person perspective? Please?
I like to think that I'm one of this site's biggest self proclaimed Witcher 3 fanboys but even I think Arthur Morgan's story was better than Geralt's. As a whole game, though, TW3 will always be my fave.
@kingjonelulz I have not but I've heard it has a decent single player campaign.
I hope they listen to fans complaining and patch in a 3rd person option eventually down the line.
