Many had assumed that Sony’s new censorship policy would only target smaller developers, but Koei Tecmo is the latest publisher to fall foul to the Japanese giant’s buttoned up approach. A product page for the newly announced Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet reveals that two questionable items will be removed from the PlayStation 4 version of the game – despite them being present in the Nintendo Switch edition.
Both the ‘Gold Fan’ and ‘Softening Gel’ have been taken out of the PS4 release, presumably per the platform holder’s guidelines. For those of you who don’t know, the fan effectively allows you to blow the skirts of characters, with the objective being to turn them inside out so you can get a glimpse of their underwear. Meanwhile, the gel “softens” the recipient’s breasts, making them more, er, springy. In both instances, highly embarrassing stuff.
However, both of these items were included in the previous PS4 and PS Vita versions of the game, so it’s clear that this is a new directive from the PlayStation maker. Despite the changes, it’s highly unlikely that this version will make its way overseas, as the previous editions never left their native Asia either. It’s going to be fascinating to see how the likes of Dead or Alive 6 and Catherine: Full Body Edition are affected, because it’s clear now that Sony will go after bigger publishers as well as small ones.

Wow, meanwhile, it's ok to murder people in all sorts of ways in other games but if there's a bit of skin involved, that's a big nono.
This is just ridiculous imo, this pc culture is just too much.
@Amusei it's not just current culture, it's been like that for years in the west, Blood and Gut's A-OK but Sex, big NO NO it's just now that PS is being run from the western side of the company these kind of changes are becoming more apparent and widespread
for example did you know in some places it's still illegal for a man to fully exposed in a film or TV show (although these restrictions don't apply to streaming services)
@KingdomHeartsFan Is it just me though that thinks stuff like this isn’t really aimed at adults but at lonely teens? Surely there comes a point where scantily-clad 3D models aren’t doing anything for you because, you know, you’re a bit too mature for that?
@KingdomHeartsFan well that is free after all.......WAIT! i was told it was, yeah

Very good points On these posts. Hard to believe NIntendo is letting it through and PlayStation is not! Play station might be beginning to make some bad decisions in marketing and Soon might be tumbling.
Am I the only one who thinks it's utterly bizarre now that Nintendo are fine with this stuff, and it's Sony doing the censoring?
@KingdomHeartsFan What's 'sexy' about nudity in video games?!!
How can a company doing so well be making so many bad decisions lately?
Although I don't believe in censorship lets face it, anyone who actually would get any enjoyment out of glimpsing pixelated underwear or breasts is either a) a virgin who's never heard of internet porn or b) a bit creepy.
Jackpot article. 100+ angry comments incoming.
@Acquiescence I'm asking myself the same question lately.
Softening gel lol. The antithesis of Viagra.
Never thought I'd see the day when the Switch starts getting the superior version of games.
Back on the ps2, Sony censored bmx xxx and game cube didn't, if I remembered correctly. I don't really care. If you're old enough for this game, you're old enough for porn, so why be upset at covered video game characters when you can get your fix else where? This is a real question, any one care to speak up for this fake outrage?
Cool, PS4 continues to not be used and my Xbox One and Switch pick up the slack.
Dang, I really don’t care for this spin off series. But the fact that it is being censored bugs me.
I'm a bit surprised that was the extent of the censorship, to be honest. They came down way harder on some of these VNs from smaller pubs.
Not my sort of thing, but hopefully they do an english-language Asian release on Switch for the people overseas who do want it.
American "freedom" strikes another PlayStation game.
Do you all really care that much about 'Softening Gel' for a game that'll never release outside of Japan? I agree that the censorship thing sucks, but really? You'd switch platforms because of this, or are we seeing the usual exaggerations?
@Bliquid /sign
@get2sammyb it's just the usual exaggerations i think
@get2sammyb
Well your being the instrument of the next drama it seems. Haha
Next article : 'Dropping the fan and the softener are but another mistep from Sony s arrogance on their way to lose the momentum they gathered and the beginning of the turn of tide'
@JJ2 I do think that there's a connection to be made between Sony's silence and this "controversy". Maybe they can't win in this scenario, but making a comment about what is/isn't acceptable might help people understand what's going on.
Then again, I guess they'd get ripped for having the audacity to point out that 'Softening Gel' is lame. What a wonderful world!
@get2sammyb
Exactly. When you see how crazy twitter is you can bet anything Sony would say would make things even worse and spin the thing out of proportion.
Thank goodness I already got the “What are you doing?” trophy in Nier.
@get2sammyb banning visual novels doesn't help.
@lacerz Thanks for the reminder. Must go and get the trophy before effin' Sony censors stuff like that too. Lollipop Chainsaw has a similar trophy btw.
Sony is quick to censor games but the content that is on some of the PS4 communities is disgraceful. Perhaps it should spend its time taking down the content on there first.
What the heck happened at sony hq, why they suddenly censor things and be silent about it? There's no communication at all with its users.
@get2sammyb I don't like when games get censored, sure censor it if it's full nudity like some games on steam, but sony is censoring stuff even nintendo didn't bother to censor.
One of the reason I like sony compared to others is because I believe sony think games are art, let the market decides whether gamers want this kind of games. Back then I still remember thinking sony is way cooler company compared to nintendo because unlike nintendo thats censor ff6, sony will publish final fantasy 7 uncensored when it launch on usa. I don't want this to be reversed again.
@get2sammyb I’m with you. To be frank, until it’s something I care about, it won’t affect what I do. As much as it stinks, I’m not gonna bother about it. I don’t see Sony messing with anything I actually care about.
I've sent a tweet to Shawn Layden, Scott Rhode, Sid Shuman and the main PlayStation and UK pages. If you feel strongly about this then I suggest you do the same. But PLEASE be bloody respectful to them, this isn't there department but they are public figures within the company so make sure your clear with your concerns.
@KingdomHeartsFan I'm expecting you to say it's weird and creepy to want to see the sexual organs of a computer game character made out of pixels. I would expect every normal person on the planet to say that.
Violence is totally different. It's 'enjoyable' because you can't do it in real life. Most of us at some point are likely to happen across a naked women in our lives and for those that don't, there are plenty of videos on the internet of actual women rather than ones made out of pixels.
I hate to generalise, but I will. Anyone 'getting off' on naked video game characters is very odd.
That said, should they be censored? Probably not.
My decision to switch to Xbox Next Gen just became more clear.
@wiiware I agree with everything you're saying, but is there really art in 'Softening Gel'?
@Badboyfx86 See, this is the kind of post I don't get. This game isn't even coming out on Xbox, and even if it did, there's no guarantee that Microsoft — an American company — wouldn't view it in the same way Sony currently does.
@get2sammyb It's not about "softening gel" it's about get the hell away from games creator and let them create games whatever they like. Besides there's already esrb/pegi for rating ps4 games.
Again I understand if some games are censored on ps4 compared to pc/steam, but nintendo? Nah, I don't like it. At least I want some explanation from sony, not this dead silence.
@Badboyfx86 Yeah like Xbox get these type of games.
@willmerfi That would be worse actually cos Sony would be denying their customers the completely. At least PS4 users still get the game.
@AdamNovice @get2sammyb Sony failed announcing there’s no E3 next year and gave Microsoft and Nintendo a huge leg up, since Andrew House left I’ve been very disappointed in the direction Sony has been going and how quiet they’ve been compared to Microsoft.
@Lando_ 👍
Clearly some SJWs has infiltrated the rank of PlayStation executives...
Thankfully I have a Nintendo Switch now...
@FullbringIchigo I just think it's unnecessary, these games are aimed for adults either way. But hey, Sony does what Sony does, whether we like it or not. I'm not even into these kinds of games but I'm against censorship in any form. That includes the no cursing rule on this site. 😺
@WillMerfi The gel is something i dont care about but removing the fan is nonsense. But i have the first game well i was done with it really fast. I wanted more gameplay or any for that matter they should have put more effort in the volleyball because that was fun. 😁
I'm generally against censorship, and I'm all for arguing against it, but boobie gel isn't a hill I'm willing to die on.
@Medic_alert Yeah i know but too be fair its a adult game. 😜
@WillMerfi That would definitely make more waves. You also have to think about the ramifications. So companies would tip-toe around the policies. And it would be much worse for Sony to say "you're game didn't pass this time, so it's out forever." A company might be making it only for PS, and then what? They rename it and change it enough to get on PS without the stuff that got it booted the first time? What you're suggesting makes no sense.
@get2sammyb yeah, this game won’t be released here and I have no real interest in this one. But it’s like you said, censorship sucks regardless what it is. I admit it’s somewhat of a pet peeve of mine. Like when Mr X in Streets of Rage 2 had his cigar removed in the English version, it bugs me. But I ain’t losing sleep over it, and there’s no way I’m throwing my PS4 out the window. Ya know what I mean?
@badboyfx86 Sony are doing their own thing now, it's not "failure" it's just how you perceive it.
@wiiware
I dont like sensorship either but when it's this sort of crap what the hell?
@Bliquid I bought a PS4 day one and traded it in when PS4 Pro came out, I don’t like the direction Sony has been going and I easily notice Microsoft is trying very hard going into Next Gen. I’ll reserve full judgment until next year as to which Next Gen System I’ll be buying.
Absolutely pathetic.
@Jaz007 And if you don't make a stand until it begins to affect mainstream games, it'll be too late. That said still support the developers of censored games as it is not their fault, but be vocal and speak out against Sony. If enough people do they might panic and stop out of fear of losing a large percentage of their customers in the long-term.
@Amusei Stupid apples and oranges fallacy. At least compare it to something more sensical like Mass Effect being allowed to have explicit sex and nudity.
@whywai88 Playstation's HQs are in Cali now. Of course they did.
I'm not the audience for any of these games, but I don't see why they don't just leave it to the regional ratings boards.
As others have said, if it's "sexy" but it's not "exploitation" and/or "under age", it seems ridiculous to censor this given all the violence in other titles... especially some of Sony's own.
The organization has taken control of Sony they will no longer be a company of culture such a shame
To be honest, censoring some gel and a fan doesn't sound like a big deal at all for now. I'm more curious to see, how Sony is gonna handle a game, that has sex and eroticism as major topics like Catherine. There, I think, we can evaluate the true expansion/effects of Sony's new censorship policy - depending on what they will or won't change.
@Adome I don't think it's stupid at all. If killing people is allowed, we should be able to see some skin. After all, it's only human anatomy, while the other is a heinous act, and somehow that is ok to show and the other is not. Makes no sense to me. Society has the dumbest standards of what is ok and what is not.
I don't really see this appeasing anyone. I mean... look at the rest of that game and tell me if anyone will feel better now that you can't see a little underwear or.... soften some boobies (wth is this even)?
Seems like this will just upset both sides.
Wouldn't surprise me if it was getting a release over here but I'm amazed they're censoring the game in Japan due to Western sensibilities, fans over there must be pissed. I mean that's the whole point of this game after all.
What changed?
@AhabSpampurse Well they DO have HD rumble. Remember that senran kagura commercial for switch? This game is built for that tech 😂
I am begging Sony to go after CD Projekt Red, which has said it's going to have full nudity in Cyberpunk 2077, and Rockstar which has a topless woman in RDR 2. Lets see how that plays out. It's easy to bully Japanese devs making extremely niche and harmless games, let see you go after the real big fish. Might as well get the censors ready for Claire and Trish in RE 2 remake and DMC V. Don't even want to think how badly future Yakuza games will be butchered. Fricking pathetic. I absolutely despise the current idiots running the PlayStation division.
Making it VERY easy for me to skip PS5, I'm already set to skip the next Xbox because I hate MS' stance on single player games and a strong push towards services and digital only. Can't wait to see what Nintendo does that pisses me off to the point I have to drop consoles completely and buy a freaking gaming PC in a couple years.
@Acquiescence
Because they moved their offices to braindead California. Nothing good comes from that state.
@get2sammyb
Keep sticking up for Sony like you always do. Censorship sucks, period, and absolutely it's something worth switching platforms over. I bought Mortal Kombat on Genesis back in the day over the SNES version and had several friends buy a Genesis just to get that version of the game because Nintendo took an idiotic stance on harmless fun. But I know, your Western sensibilities are far more important.
Will this one also have PSVR support?
There is a lot of hypocrisy in the Playstation community regarding this issue. Games have always been a way to experience things that are unacceptable in reality. Is it okay to blow someone's head off with a shotgun and then teabag the body? Of course not. You're called a monster for objectifying women in reality but you're also a gigantic creep for looking at carefully crafted models in a game. Millions of people watch porn everyday where real people are abused but that doesn't matter because video games are the cause for every issue in the world if you ask certain people. If you dismember people in a game and proceed to inspect their body parts, you're no better than someone looking at virtual underwear. Violence is absolutely fetishized nowadays. Nudity and sex has always been part of everything including widely acclaimed european art throughout history.
@Vonuz
Actually it's the overreaction that hypocritical.
I'm all for nudity and sex in video games. I'm all for mature themes, really. I want the medium to become as mature as any other and get annoyed with the SJW journalism.
What are people raging about here?
'the fan effectively allows you to blow the skirts of characters, with the objective being to turn them inside out so you can get a glimpse of their underwear. Meanwhile, the gel “softens” the recipient’s breasts, making them more, er, springy'
You have a game supposed to be for grown men with the option to blow skirts up and soften the boobs. Haha
I say it's better it the skirt isn't there and the boobs look realistic (meaning the physics here) in the first place.
@JJ2 It was the intention of the developer and i hold the opinion that an idea no matter how ridiculous it may be to people, should be able to be expressed unless it absolutely violates laws or rules. I have never played any of the DOAE games but if fans of the franchise feel like this would be something that they are interested in, i don't think it should be removed to appeal to people who don't even play games like that. It's a question of immersion and expectation in my opinion. Rotting bodies in RDR2 is unnecessary too but it enhances the realism of the game. If small features like changing the bounciness of the boobs which is a feature in many japanese games is one thing that may enhance the experience for people then it should be there. It was included in previous games and thought of as a necessary part of the game or it would have been removed earlier.
@Vonuz
Well that maybe an annoyance for some people but I m saying the outrage, in particular from people who don't care about those '' features' haha, is hypocritical borderline idiotic.
@Jriibz nope but I moved to Xbox One after the whole censorship and banning visual novels nonsense started..
@tomassi wait till you hit puberty.
@tomassi or c) normal adult who plays this as a normal game
@blourf When I was in puberty all we had was Leisure Suit Larry!!
@premko1 yeeeeeeeeah right. Keep telling yourself that bud x
@tomassi yikes, then maybe old age is the problem here
Lame jokes aside, I have never played the game in question here myself. While the character design may be appealing, the gameplay seems to be dull from what I gathered. So I have no idea what the ‘Gold Fan’ here is all about, but ‘Softening Gel’ sure does sound naughty.
@Gamer83
"Nothing good comes from that state."
Well, except some of the greatest films, novels, bands, video games, etc. of the 20th and 21st centuries. And some of the greatest minds of recent times. And technologies you use on a daily basis.
They also singlehandedly keep quite a few parasitic red states afloat, but I guess some may not see that as a good thing.
But you're right - other than being a center for technology, innovation, and art, and apart from being an economic powerhouse that dwarves most countries of the world, and beside the enormous amount of agriculture produced there, and other than containing an astonishing amount of gorgeous scenery, California hasn't really given us much.
It's no Kansas or Mississippi, that's for sure.
Next up from Gamer83: "What have the Romans ever done for us?"
@IBeAGamer hit the gym and get laid
@Rephlex uh oh, personal insults time.
@Jriibz implying that I care if Sony notices or not. They owe me nothing but I owe them nothing as well and I will take my gaming elsewhere. Sony however have exclusives that I can't play elsewhere.
I've never played a single one of these games but this censorship on Playstation is getting out of hand. People should have to right to play the original uncensored game if they want to.
@Jriibz
Possible he'd think like me which is what's the point of getting the game anyway if it's butchered? I'd rather not have the game at all than any of this ridiculous censorship. Not that I'd agree going over to Xbox is the answer as MS has its own mess to sort out, but to each their own.
this is great news. sony no longer feels the pressure to pander to the weebs of the world. sony wants to be more respectful towards woman and there is nothing wrong with that. if you take issue with this, then leave playstation and make a home on pc. those calling this the beginning of the downfall for sony are laugh out loud funny. i mean, a game that will sell 100k copies means nothing to the world. all those people raging about this could disappear tomorrow and it would barely impact sony's bottom line. stop with the pathetic threats... just leave playstation already. it is getting irritating hearing a bunch of babies crying...
@Gamer83 you don't get it. sony doesn't have a problem with nudity or mature themes in its games if it is done tastefully. the games you mentioned cater to ADULTS. dead or alive caters to TEENS and slightly older weebs. there is no artistic merit or "purpose" to the fanservice in doa other than to pander to a perverted group of people. i will say it again: sony has no problem with nudity and mature themes in its games. you will see plenty if maturity in last of us 2 and death stranding for example. if you think they do, you are severely out of touch with the publisher. you have a very child-like, self entitled attitude. maybe when you get a little older you will understand the difference.
@Porco
No, I'm plenty old enough and have followed the industry long enough. Sony has allowed plenty of games that have far more offensive stuff done to women in games than this, even now. The one who doesn't get it is you. If somebody doesn't like stuff like DoA or other 'weeb' fanservice games they don't have to buy them, but their existence doesn't hurt anybody nor is it 'disrespectful toward women.' I actually know plenty of women who enjoy these games as well.
@Gamer83 you mean treating a woman like she is a blow up doll or a sex robot is not disrespectful to women? never mind women, that is disrespectful to human beings in general. values change with the times whether you want to accept that or not. if you cannot comprehend why such content might be offensive to some people, it means you lack understanding. just because something was once okay at one point in time doesn't mean it should have been okay to begin with. i am all for maturity in my games, but doa is the furthest thing from maturity i can think of. i would be ashamed and embarrassed to play such a game in front of mature adults.
@Porco
Spare me the holier than thou bullsh*t. I can understand why some people might find offensive or be embarrassed by it, that's fine, don't f**king buy it, that's what a mature adult does, they don't go trying to ruin the fun for other people and there is a market for these games.
As far as not wanting to play the game in front of other adults, that's great, but I do find it funny how somebody would be embarrassed playing DoA in front of others but has no problem playing any Rockstar game, including RDR 2 which allows you to do some despicable things to the women in that game, stuff I'd argue is far more egregious and people have their clickbait videos of it on youtube for plenty to view.
@Gamer83 am i forced to treat women in that way while playing rdr2? no? thought so... doa has an emphasis and focus on the peeping tom aspect of the game. the weebs of the world will purchase the game entirely for this very reason. i just don't understand why such a feature can mean so much to them... maybe it would be best that they evaluate their lives and make strives to interact with real people instead of dolls from a video game.
@Porco
You act like those are the only people who enjoy those games, when that's simply not the case. There are plenty of normal people who enjoy the games too, of both genders, I know them and interact with them. The fields I've worked in in my life I've interacted with all different types. You're not forced to do that stuff in Rockstar's games but it certainly isn't discouraged. It's the same as DoA, you are not forced to use any of those items. Just like there are some people who will buy DoA simply for the raunchy aspects, there are plenty who will buy Rockstar's games for the same reason. You can pretend that's not the case all you want, but it absolutely is.
@Jriibz Switch.
@Porco if you don’t like these kinds of games why not do the mature thing and just let the people that like them play them? I just don’t understand the “If I don’t like it, it shouldn’t exist period” arguement. Like you don’t like playing them, that’s cool dude, but many people do and it doesn’t hurt anyone.
@Jriibz as in the Nintendo Switch.
@Porco
There are people who genuinely are annoyed not to have these features but I think a lot of gamers mistake allowing mature themes with these features which are actually immature. It's a shame for the fans but it's just features removed, not a restriction on mature themes. Not worth an outrage anyway.
@JJ2 with how Sony is treating Japanese devs now I think the outrage is justified.
Jesus, this is absolutely pathetic of Sony.
@whywai88 Some stuff is really bad. Rubbing stuff between a girl boobs whats the deal with that. Or touching underaged girls i think we can do without that.
Some stuff i see no problem with.
Adult themes with "adults" in there i dont see a problem. Adult themes no problem not everything needs to be on a platform. As a platformholder i can understand that some stuff will ruin your reputation.
@Flaming_Kaiser I say just let people play what they want to play, let them be the judge.
@Stecav67 As per community rules
Do not use profanity; Use of unsavoury language including profanity and swearing is not acceptable, please remember that this website has users of all ages.
So let's watch the language from now on.
Thanks for understanding
Wait 'Softening Gel' is seen as sexy and not just over the top humor?
What about Dragons Crown Pro?
I’m not buying ANYTHING by Sony until they drop this censorship crap! That includes Black Friday deals on PSN and the 4K TV I’m in the market for. Screw this company. I say this as a longtime PS fan. Their behaviour disgusts me and maybe they’re not the great company I thought they were.
I'd rather have a vasectomy than let this kind of crap near my PS4!
Also, talk about some over the top reactions haha
@Jriibz I did say that Switch and Xbox One were picking up the slack earlier.
@Flaming_Kaiser
These kind of silly, over the top niche games have ruined PlayStation's reputation so bad that Sony sells at least 80 mil home consoles every generation, something every other company who's ever been in this industry can only dream of.
Yeah. How Sony is treating japanese developers is more of a concern for me than some boob softening gel. :/
@Jriibz
I've said a lot of stuff, which comment are you referring to?
@Jriibz third party games on Xbox and Japanese games on Switch.
@Lando_ it’s linked though. A Japanese dev should be able to put “boob softening gel” in their game without being hassled as it’s just harmless fun.
@Jriibz as gamers we should be standing together regardless of whether or not we enjoy a particular game. Just makes me sad to see gamers throwing each other to wolves over game taste.
@Tony56723 I agree.
@Jriibz
I was being sarcastic. Obviously these games haven't hurt Sony's reputation, but people are acting like titles such as DoA Extreme, which have existed for decades now, will ruin Sony's reputation in 2018 and going forward. They've never bothered anybody before and they don't now. Sony had a record year in 2018 and that's with the known existence of crazy, over the top Japanese games.
@Gamer83 Lets be real mate these games did not make the PS4 a succes. With the small amount of sales and i buy the smaller titles.
Thats the amount of choice. Big commitment to exclusive games, massive First party support, deals with the big Third party games. Almost every kind of game is on the system RPG, adventure games, shooters, Blockbusters.
@get2sammyb You mean the like crossplatform issue. Sometimes its better to be quiet.
@Flaming_Kaiser
They aren't the games that make PlayStation a success on their own but they don't hurt. These games on the platform expand the library and certainly help give Sony an advantage.
@tomassi
What about rapists playing witcher 3?
What about serial killers and school shooters playing western murder and genocide simulators like call of duty and red dead redemption?
Those rapists and murderers roam free amongst us . We need to ban violence in games to ptotect our citizen.
". A Japanese dev should be able to put “boob softening gel” in their game without being hassled as it’s just harmless fun."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-45388759
as much as i wanted this for ps4, i preordered it for the switch instead! the switch version will have english language support as well, so, i guess its another adult themed game i got for switch, the first being gal gun 2!
@Cutmastavictory I’ll speak up for it... Because there’s nothing ‘fake’ about being upset that the content that was intended to be in a game to play, has been removed without reason. It’s not about ‘nudes’... it’s about whether they should censor what the developers have created, or leave it up to the gamer to decide if they want it or not.
This is especially obvious when ‘extreme’ violence is seen to be totally fine, but a fan that blows clothing, is not. The judgements are arbitrary and shouldn’t be made by a publisher.
They haven’t blurred out nudes here, they’ve determined where ‘they’ think a line in the sand is, seemingly at random, given what other content is available in both this game and others.
Meanwhile, it seems Nintendo hasn’t, which is both great... and strange.
Censorship is not a good thing IMO.
@FTL you want to see pedo teen stuff. Nothing you and your gang of strange men can say.
@Cutmastavictory What are you even talking about. It’s about censorship, not the things that you describe. If they censor a random part of the game here, there’s no reason they can’t censor violence (which is illegal in the real world) from Red Dead for example.
Not to mention, that clearly the part that they removed from this game, was not the worst part of it, it’s just a random selection.
It’s a simple principal, it’s not that hard to understand why censorship is bad.
Once again the gaming industry infiltrated/pandering to political correctness and sjw scum. I'm not a fan of dead or alive but If you want to go down that road maybe I should switch to pc or x box and hope many others do, and we shall leave the sjw circus freaks to have their ps safe space
All of this outrage is honestly sad.
Sony, you suck Ba**lz for censoring this game and to all the wussies that get offended over everything are what is wrong with society. Like others have said a Mortal Kombat fatality is ok, but for Sony to detemine what is too sexual or extreme to be in a game when theres a market that wants to buy it is Whack!
There is a rating system on the game and if need be they can rate it
Mature/NC-17 giving its Adult theme and then the fans that want to buy it can and if you dont like these kind of games you clearly dont have to buy it!
Games like Leisure Suit Larry are great classics and should be more welcomed on consoles. They made it for Xbox, but toned it down compared to its PC Counterparts
Al Lowe was a genius creating Larry Laffer!
Censorship is not the right direction and it is funny Nintendo is going in the opposite direction as they use to be the prude goody 2 shoes. I also as someone mentioned bought SEGA Genesis over SNES Due to Nintendos No Blood Violence policy back in the day and Mortal Kombat was way better on Sega because they had less censorship! SEGA won and Nintendo lost many sales because NO BLOOD SUCKED. Lol...
Yup, the kiddy Nintendo Stigma stuck around for years until they smartened up and finally began allowing Mature games on to there platform. Now, look at them.. Many Mature titles are supported on the Switch and now they will not alter DOA extreme 3: Scarlet.
Way to go Nintendo I am so proud of you that I am buying the Switch Collectors Edition. You swayed me because guess what SONY many gamers don’t want there games censored or you to tell customers and developers what they can or cant have in their games when it is not breaking any laws; you stink SONY!
It is called freedom of expression and to all the SJW’s and PORCO if you don’t like it then don’t buy it. It is not offensive when a digital game is not hurting anyone and hey guess what its not even illegal to be a pervert!
They are fictional characters and just like the fake violence you enjoy some enjoy the fantasy fake girls of DOA that Team Tecmo created years of developing a huge fanbase for these characters with Adult Themes.
Its about the WHOLE experience of having exactly the game the Devs intended and not Sony that will censor it mainly because they moved HQ to Cali...
I am a westerner and even hate all the political Bull Crap that has come into our entertainment and Video Games are not the cause of any violent or sexual crimes.. Games are not linked to these crimes... I even did a report on how video games effect the psychological mind. Video Games are NOT the cause of violence or sexual crimes. These results are backed with evidential facts.
People that are chemically imbalanced do many of these crimes and it is not because of a video game as you will always here some sensitive person blaming it on a movie or game always...
How about that they are just crazy, see crazy things in the real world everyday and they just act out crazy with anything that can be a reference or anything they see even in the news. Games are not the root and I grew up around Normal gamers which is a widespread community whether its an Adult game with sexual themes or Violent any normal person understands its a fantasy game.
Its not real and anyone normal would never do those things in real life. The reason these things should not offend anyone when they are in a game directed at no real person.. No extremities in a game will ever offend me because it is nonsense to stress over what a Dev is putting in the game when it hurts no one and I know many of both genders that are fans of these sexual themed games or things that Sony is now censoring.
The problem is Sony did not censor there last version of this game then BAM all of a sudden they decide to censor this update... Ridiculous... FIRE the Sony EXECUTIVES making these WIMPY DECISIONS!
Sony was always known for Mature games and less censorship then even Xbox and now they seem to be the worst with this new policy!
They better not alter Cyber Punk 2077
As another commenter said Xbox X for Third party games now and Switch for all the uncensored gamed and I guess Sony now just for their Exclusives. I do want to see this game in VR and tempted, but I am not supporting this Sony censorship! Thats the point!
Screw you Sony! Take censorship away... Before we know it, the Nude scenes in games or being able to have sex in God of War will be removed as well...
PORCO, how in God of War 3 is having Sex as many times as you want being “tasteful nudity” and you have to have sex with her at least once to move to the next scene so it is forced?
If the fanbase was not big for DOA extreme do you believe they would be making updates, plus many different versions as in collector editions up to $250! More fans as well as me will be getting the Switch version and Sony it is not ok to censor our games.
Everyone knows Sony is the Publisher and can say the devs of games with freedom of expression can rate the game for Adults. Sony can still state that they have games for all audiences and families can still enjoy by buying “E” games.. We have a rating system and Sony Western Adults can handle Sexual themes. Just rate them accordingly, but do not censor them!
Leisure Suit Larry is classic and never censored, but as time goes on everyone is becoming too sensitive and a bunch of wimps... Of course in real life I believe in equality and love women with the utmost respect! What is happening in an Adult themed game is completely fantasy, not real, silly entertainment which people enjoy these DOA characters a lot and appreciate that the devs understand their fanbase.
What they really should do is add an all Naked pose mode and get it on the Switch! Imagine Sony approving all Naked Pose VR mode.
Instant “Sell Out”. Probably piss the SJW’s off, but its just fictionalized fantasy with no harm or disrespect to real women. Even many straight girls see the DOA characters as very beautiful and like the Adult theme this franchise has!
I wish the West would embrace it and people need to stop being so scared of sexual themes when they are ok with extreme violence.. If anything, a fun loving sexual themed game doesn’t promote to hurt anyone over a violent game you could argue that it encourages someone to be violent... But we know if you are normal and can separate fiction from reality then whether something is extremely sexualized or very violent it doesn’t matter because they are not acting these game experiences out in real life.
Funny how people are so scared to think anything a little naughty or sexual is the DEVIL, but can be so accepting to WAR and Murder! So is War and Murder the ANGEL?
I grew up on Mortal Kombat, Socom, Halo, and even Golden Eye... etc... and after all that violence am I a violent person.. No way man, I don’t even like killing insects. So, if I use a feature to blow up someone’s skirt it is not real and you don’t see me going to do that in real life because I see it in a game.
We are not children here Playing this game and its just a fun feature that if someone wants to be a little perverted why is that any worse then wanting to Blow someones head off with a Shotgun?
They are both not real and when Call of Duty is using real countries to have wars in games like against Russia, but an anime character being too sexual is too much for people thats just nonsense.
Western Society and whoever agrees with that nonsense are the crazy ones as you are way too sensitive to what is put in
Video games/Hollywood entertainment and try to blame everyday real world problems on the entertainment world! Mind your own business if you don’t like it no one is forcing you to buy it and if Adults want to enjoy an Adult themed game then Sony should never censor it!
Are we in the Twilight Zone where Sony is going backwards into strict censorship policy and Nintendo is going towards the way of the fans becoming more lenient to censorship? (SMH)
Thank you Nintendo for stepping up and thats how you do it as a company. Listen to fans and you shall prosper... Censor fans games and maybe not soon, but in time the effects will take its toll like they did on the SNES vs SEGA days... SEGA won due to Mature games being allowed and Goody Nintendo disagreed; therefore losing to the Genesis! Real Facts!
Keep telling yourselves that a Huge company cant fall... Wheres FAO Schwartz, Toys “R” Us, Blockbuster... etc.. Nintendo was in a jam in certain years and had to change there tactics in order to survive...
If Sony cant see that this censorship can effect them in a big way in the future then only time will tell when they see losing sales to Nintendo that will not alter their games.
Its about respecting all gamers and that is not to censor anything and to RATE it; then let the customers decide if they want to buy it or not.. The laws for an ID needs to be present for Mature games still exist so its not like the games will get into kids hands unless you are a bad parent.
Heres what I think of SONY’S new censorship policy
SONY *** ****
Nintendo translation:
SONY YOU SUCK
@Porco
I would definitely feed you after Midnight and have the Gremlins have fun with you; Gizmo
@Ralizah The Japanese Switch version has English subtitles and menus!
@Amusei that’s exactly what I said on the last story about this. It’s hypocritical and Sony should be banning almost every game they have when you take into consideration the mass murdering going on!
Ridiculous...
The existence of the ESRB and PEGI should be enough that we don't need to neuter or censor anything. But let's face facts here... if the shoe were on the other foot and Nintendo was censoring this and other games the way Sony has been doing, Pushsquare would be having a field day. Because it's Sony though, we have the usual Sony Defense Force out downplaying it and crazies acting like this is somehow an act of divine justice and so on.
So you took out a fan that lets me blow a grown woman's skirt up a little. Meanwhile on MK11 I just tore out someone's large intestine and played a game of jump rope with it.
World has gone crazy. I feel like the only sane one left and I'm just an onion.
@Imagremlin You do know that this old news from last november
@get2sammyb Why did this article get reposted? Error?
It's pretty darn insulting that as an adult, I'm not trusted to responsibly enjoy adult content in an M-rated game I've purchased. I'm not even interested in women so the content being censored lately doesn't directly apply to me, but it's an insulting double standard. I don't have children and won't have children, there is no chance of a minor watching me play this. Why can't I enjoy mature content in a mature rated games? Sony is insulting us by forcing their puritan values on adults who should be allowed to make their own decisions. Disgraceful. I also have been really excited for Catherine as it's a game about romance and human relationships, and yes, sex is an important part of that. I enjoy the game not because I'm turned on by it, but because it's an honest depiction of complicated relationships and sex (besides the supernatural stuff in that game lol) I feel like we're back in the 90s where the super religious held our games hostage and removed any depictions of sex or free-thinking (challenging religious ideals, like Shin Megami Tensei does). Why are you bringing us back into the dark ages, Sony??
