Every time we lay our eyes on Ananta, we end up questioning its integrity. And we mean that in the best possible way — at least for now.

This is the anime-styled open world game — previously known as Project Mugen — from Chinese developer Naked Rain. The game's been blowing minds ever since its initial reveal a couple of years back, and to be honest, it somehow seems to grow more and more insane with every new trailer.

Ananta's just gotten a new gameplay video, which you can watch above. It shows off what we assume is the title's opening sequence, which consists of melee combat, on-rails shooting, and a car chase.

All the while, main character Chenxiu is cracking wise like he's Nathan Drake, and you can basically see the budget pouring out of every animation and explosion.

Granted, a lot of what's on show here is clearly scripted — it's certainly not a look at the game's open world formula — but we're still talking AAA levels of production quality here. And as if we have to reiterate: Ananta is free to play.

Oh, and character gacha isn't the catch. Earlier this week, the developer confirmed that the title won't have any kind of loot box mechanics for unlocking additional heroes. Instead, monetisation will be focused on cosmetic items.
