Gran Turismo 7's New Bonus Credits Offer Feels Cruel for Current Players

Its kinda sad they dont give the existing group of players something even if it would be something small.

Players have had over 3.5 years of free updates and will receive another Spec 3 update free of charge next month. Still, a day not complained is a day not lived, right?

I have no complaints. It's equivalent to a small discount on the game, which has been on sale for much less than it's current full price.

"Thank you for getting us to 100 million sales, so here's a bonus for all of those who haven't bothered to buy our game yet"

2 million credits is not even 90 minutes of playing for us players that have progressed past the campaign. Not a problem at all for me.

I have nearly 45 million credits across all my accounts so I couldn't give a monkeys.

I don't care about collecting all the cars just for the sake of it and only tend to buy what I want to race in the multiplayer.

Usually the free updates that are just cars are nothing exciting so I ignore them. I mean how many SUV's do I need to buy just to not ever use them.

I would love for something that I am excited to spend those credits on but dull every day cars ain't it (for me) as they are rarely used in the content I play in GT7

I can’t recall but I feel like I got some sort of perk credits amount when I bought the game day one and I didn’t buy a special edition.

But in either case, as an old head with the rubber band contraptions to match, for newcomers to come onto the scene having never been able to take advantage of some of the more wacky days of now patched shenanigans, I’m fine with their receiving this perk. My stable of 400-500 cars, flush supply of crate engines and nearly every engine swapped iteration already acquired as well as every Hagerty Legends car and invite car already snagged, I’m okay with missing out on 1-3 26 minute races worth of winnings… but by all means, do go on.

Consistently have anywhere between 20-40 million credits nowadays and 400+ cars, so not so bothered about a new player getting a little nudge in the right direction, especially amounts that can be earned with an hour's play.

Never understood the “hate” for people who mention what they dont like. It doesnt mean they dont like the game.
As a company you usually get the most complaints from your most hardcore fans, and its smart to listen to them.

@RawnDawn If you like racing games and specifically sim racers then don't hesitate, fantastic game and if you have VR then it is a whole other level.

@Darude84 Yeah, seems as I recall that the higher level races can net you a couple million credits in a pretty short amount of time.

I’ve not booted up this game for a while, despite keeping it saved on my console. I should give some of the new content a spin. Great game.

I have no problem with this. An insensitive to attract new players. What’s the problem with that? As others say 2 mil credits isn’t a huge amount and not difficult to accumulate during play

I'm 100% sure I've got 2 mil credits, but maybe that was for pre-ordering Digital Deluxe on PSN, I don't remember...

@RawnDawn when it comes down to steering wheels it depends on how much you are willing to spend. I bought a thrustmaster T150 for £150 off ebay and that came with a stand to mount the wheel and pedals onto. It's a great beginner wheel and better than the logitech g29. It is a belt and gear hybrid wheel. However after a couple of months I wanted more so after much deliberation I decided to go the direct drive path and ultimately settled on the thrustmaster T598 (£450.) The fanatec gt7 wheel is good too and a lot of people will tell you it's better but after trying both I can safely say the T598 is the better wheel and is a lot cheaper. @Kidfunkadelic83 bought one on my recommendation and he's loving it too. There is a new logitech wheel for the ps5 but it's more expensive but by all accounts it's a great wheel. I don't think I'll need a new wheel as the T598 is just superb..I also bought a dedicated racing frame cockpit too and I've been living in the bloody thing ever since I got it. Whichever one you decide on I can help you with the settings too although I mainly play EA wrc and dirt rally 2.0 as they are just more me but gt7 is superb with the T598 (it has a dedicated mode for gt7) and I'm going to be buying the psvr2 headset mainly for gt7 because I have to have it...

@Th3solution Yes, there’s Spa that gives you 1.5 mln for 60 minutes and Le Mans and another that give you roughly 800k for 25-30 minutes. This is including an almost unmissable clean race bonus.

@Ainu20 I'm a casual gt7 player..actually I'm about to chuck some serious cash at the psvr2 headset specifically for gt7 so referring to myself as a "casual" player may seem a bit daft. Anyway I agree with you that gt7 has given away so many freebies over the years that enticing new players with this incentive isn't something that bothers me in the slightest and to be honest I actually think it's a good thing.

Yea I've absolutely zero complaints about not getting credits. First.. we've had years of free updates and it's super easy to get loads of credits in the first place.

Sure, if you want every car in the game its a near impossible task but 750k credits isn't going to make a difference trying to collect all the 20m cars in the first place.

I'd much rather not have some credits and get all the last few years of updates without needing to put my hands in my pocket.

Not expecting something for free, but when I saw it on the store I hoped to find a 1-time DLC for older users, like 1 million credits for $10 or a discounted 2 million option.

@RawnDawn I'd go with a used Thrustmaster T150 or Logitech G29, I went from a G29 to the fanatec GT DD and in all honesty the cost was not worth the gains. I kinda wish I'd just modded the pedals for the G29 as that's the only leap I found. I've heard good things of the T150, but only used one briefly. Direct Drive is good, but it's expensive so unless you're sure you'll spend the time with it,it's probably not worth the extra dough.
Although a decent wheel and seat are elevated to new levels with a VR2 headset, and they can be found cheap as chips now. Cheaper than a decent 55" TV that does all the things anyway.

To those that have been playing since day dot 2 million credits is a drop in the ocean.
Although not a fan of micros, I do kinda wish cars were available through the PS Store a'la GT5/6. Not that I bought any of them then, but I'm older now, I have less time to spend grinding out credits...

I've put a silly amount of hours into GT7, wish they'd allow me to cash in on unused parts. It actually feels impossible to get 100% of the cars because of the silly prices. I want some free credits if the newbies are getting 'em Polyphony!

If you play around Christmas time, you can usually rack up a lot of credits and gift cars. If I recall correctly, the event starts around a week before Christmas. Just logging in and getting your 26 miles daily workout will gain money fast. 2,000,000 free credits would be nice, but it’s not a huge amount to fret over.

@LiamOliver I hear you but personally going from the t150 to the t598 was game changing for me. The difference in the force feedback is night and day. I would really like the load cell pedals but I'm going for the psvr2 first.

This is really not an issue, there's plenty of ways to earn free money every week pretty much!
Also whenever there's a GT World Championship event they give out a bunch of rewards for that too so it's really just an early booster for new players not a sleight to existing ones.

@Northern_munkey beware of buying a psvr2, the graphics are pony and the UI is missing important bits for online racing, I procrastinated for a couple of years until I finally brought it, then fast forward a year and I don’t really use it and can’t even sell it for half the money I paid for it.

As for wheels, fanatec gtddpro with LC (LC a must) here with a wheel stand pro, ponang ikea chair and 48inch lg C1 oled

@Brockybrock Thrustmaster T598 and I have a GTplayer cockpit..well over 300 hours in EA wrc 🤣

@RawnDawn people will tell you the fanatec is the better wheel but for the difference in price the T598 for me personally is the better choice. Its a 5nm direct drive but it has overshoot that boosts it to 10nm in certain circumstances and its a constant 5nm..never dips and no cogging.

@Brockybrock I suck at gt7 but I enjoy playing it. @Kidfunkadelic83 kicks my ass on gt7 but I own him on the rally even though I use automatic but I'm getting used to manual gears.

@Northern_munkey yeah it always good fun having a race. Need to get the wheel out again soon. Saying that I've not really been gaming alot at all lately. Just dropped off it a bit in general.

@Northern_munkey you wont regret the psvr2, it’s pretty much the only way i play gt7, so good (with the small exception the BMW VGT doesn't have a cockpit model so it’s like your’e driving with your head out the sun roof 😄).

I could only imagine being upset about this if you JUST bought the game.

I spend most of my days in my cockpit with my t598 and vr these days. Had power supply issues at launch but since then has been a solid entry wheel. Planning on getting the load cell upgrade early next year when it drops.

Also would love to try the Logitech rs50. Solid ecosystem. Crazy time to get into sim racing right now. 👍

Isn't this basically just what Rockstar has been doing for years with GTA5 but apparently it's a big deal now that Gran Turismo did it.

Well I did, but shouldn't have the highest edition a month ago or so with the 1.5Mill credits. So increasing it seems a bit ridiculous. Why bother now for new owners of the game? Is it that much a motivation? To me it wasn't. I am not a GT7 fan but I like some ideas having played it now then not for years, I waited late for GT Sport as well and did the wiki work for the offline update changes. I still care about the series more then I do Ratchet or God of War these days.

I don't even use the 1.5Mill credits anyway, I still am playing the game safe and as if I never had them, I never use the GT3, GT4P and GT4 license test or credit transfer as I don't care to. Same applies here.

I wanted the OST app and the songs offered were ok but not my thing. I wanted to see if it was a USB app (Kandagawa Jet GIrls or Senran Kaugra Peach Beach Splash) or a music player app (Death End Re:quest Z and GT7), I have both for different games (compared to games with a music player menu in the main menu) that's why I was interested. The rest was a 'bonus' credits or bonus avatars, I didn't even care for those at all.

I even have a video idea to cover digital artbooks/OST or USB apps or bonus disks just because why not when physical ones are usually covered instead not digital and wanted to make those the factor of the video more then the physical artbooks I have or bonus disks for Halo 2, the comic/pre-order disk of Splintercell Conviction or NFS Carbon on 360. Not idea if I want to do anything about it. Got all of those cheap. Not so my Disgaea 6 and 7 Deluxe physicals with the artbooks so small for the Switch releases for example. Anyway back on topic.

So for newcomers sure, and I suck at My First GT's last time trial (99% of the demo otherwise) so I can't transfer those cars over as that's the end game feature of that demo just like GT Concept 2001/2 or GT4P back to GT3 and GT4 compared to GT PSP car transfer for arcade mode for GT5 which doesn't require progression.

So otherwise I'm playing the game like I got the standard edition and been fine getting credits, getting low roulettes and a car I already owned as a reward and playing the game normally.

I haven't dipped below the 1.5mill as I am playing carefully, I always do when playing these games just encase, but strategise when replaying GT2 to 4 different ways with different cars all the time. Challenges I set myself or casual playthroughs to different events then prior playthroughs.

@RawnDawn it's worth every penny if you are serious about starting sim racing or just simcade racers..works really well with forza horizon 5 and the crew motorfest as well.

@RawnDawn Just make sure to mount it to some sort of stand as that wheel can really kick. I've done so races on GT that have made me feel like I was doing arms day down the gym afterwards 🤣.

@captainsandman I'm with you on that. Don't give me credits for nothing, let me grind my way up. I felt this Gran Turismo the progression early on was too quick, I miss the days of doing a Sunday Cup race 5 times just to afford a new flywheel.

@RawnDawn yeah you will need a pretty sturdy stand as the T598 can crank out the torque. As @Kidfunkadelic83 said I've had days where I've felt like I've been down the gym working out. I highly recommend dirt rally 2.0 and EA wrc too..those 2 games will have your arms like hating you in no time 🤣

@Northern_munkey I got the LC with the Fanatec GT DD thing, it was the most game changing thing for me. Maybe that's why I wasn't so enamoured with the wheelyness of the wheel? Don't get me wrong, it's definitely better in every way, even as standard, but it cost the better part of a grand, and value wise it wasn't worth it. Plus I started with a G27 on PS3 so became very accustomed to that layout.

@Kidfunkadelic83 Haha! Yeah, it's rare that I regret pulling my wallet out, but compared to the alternatives the Fanatec stuff is definitely overpriced.

@LiamOliver I tried my mates fanatec and it was pretty good but the T598 is much better. It's got stronger force feed back and more options to tweak. When I first got it I was not prepared for just how strong it is. I had dirt rally 2.0 and EA wrc configured for the T150 which is only 2nm so I really should have thought about that before trying to break my wrists 🤣. I'm sorry to hear that you are not particularly enamoured with your fanatec but it was the extra cost that swayed me to the T598 and I'm glad I did.

@Gunga Well that's why I felt Forza Motorsport 6's roulettes dumb or the tour structure. Even then weight mods only did effect me, other mods did nothing so that system was pointless to in that game. Why give players high spec cars if they can't use them for the campaign just arcade mode or something. It's just pointless due to the career mode structure. If people want free driving/arcade mode access by all means. Or sport mode runs (waiting for access to it in GT7 compared to GT Sport also doesn't help 7's case there even compared to other 'multiplayer unlocks after period of time or accessible immediately from the menu design of other games).

PGR2 was restrictive and players wanting freedom complained as all modes are restrictive, arcade and career per classes (I thought it was handled better then both modern examples or even Ride 4 which i thought was ok for the angle it wanted to capture but didn't do it that well).

PGR3 makes it so open ended instead to combat that audience type to cater to them so I always remember the PGR2 dev quote. Rather then offering a restrictive career mode option as devs don't do that they focus on a core design instead. Same as they don't offer different puzzles per difficulty/type of players (not meaning optional hard ones for collectibles types in games I mean in general or a skip button if they have one).

GT7 doesn't offer much fancy early on in roulettes either from my playing of the game so far. Regardless of the obvious credit rewards offered, I don't care as I don't need them but even still. I've strategized what I wanted anyway no matter how many they gave me.

Invitations suggestions or sure access to more cars, but if the player can barely progress and use those cars, why would anyone care about more credits other then to access things early when the point is to highlight different ranges of cars and their history.

The narrative and dev design versus the marketing team is so backwards it makes no sense.

If players want a game to race their nostaglic cars or supercars sure but their is having a thrill and getting a customer's money and actually being able to use them in the game due to how restrictive GT7's career mode is compared to even past entries more open ended design.

I got an F1 car in GT3 at 15%, in my current playthrough I struggle to get one due to the roulettes there. It's been a fun replay of the game for me working around those.

I mean if they want to attract people who seek cheat modes or fancy things or end game first or just 'play whenever and have fun' sure but the game isn't designed that way.

Even gating split screen/sport mode after a few hours is a bit odd. Challenges sure, but to me the scaling even compared to GT5's level system just made me confused why they designed it that way.
