After TLOU Remake, ND may be looking into a Part II Director's Cut before the release of Multiplayer. The persistent lack of 60fps patch for Bloodborne had me thinking of the Remastered rumor which may occur in 2023. How about Tekken 8. Might as well launch on the same year as SF6!
An acquisition would make most sense when they offer value across multiple divisions. Bandai Namco, Capcom and Square Enix fits the bill nicely since they own IPs pertaining to anime, E-Sport, movie and video games. Bandai will cost more but they have a strong anime focus, the publishing rights to many of FromSoft hits and an added bonus of a toy division. Capcom is popular with western audiences and has multiple fighting game IPs. Square is stronger with their Japanese IPs but i would consider them a better target for Nintendo.
All three companies have a large pool of talented developers which Konami lacks. Leasing Konami's IPs should be better than an acquisition. Another possibility is Kadokawa which also owns FromSoft but i think it Sony can achieve more with Bandai Namco.
What the heck is Jim Ryan thinking. Isn't the gaming market growing rapidly? With more customers, they could easily breakeven with the old pricing scheme. Why even propose a price hike this early in the console generation when they could use every opportunity to drive hardware sales.
Quick Resume is a useful backward compatibility feature but they are inefficient since Xbox needs to write the entire system memory into SSD every single time. Next gen game can be design to boot directly to autosave. Such implementation will work even faster than quick resume since no SSD write is involve.
With more companies entering cloud gaming, fragmentation is likely to become a norm. These tech giants will have the resources to purchase game developers outright or go into platform exclusive deals, locking their competitors out. Not needing to purchase a gaming console meant gamers are more likely to switch from one platform to another.
The price hike is fine as long as developers make clear what gamers will be getting. If they do away with paid DLCs and other exploitative microtransaction, most gamers will appreciate the value even at this higher price.
I don't see the need in rushing for a price hike so early in the new console gen. Gaming market has grown considerably following Covid-19 which should be more than enough to offset the high cost of console hardware. Competition is heating up with game subscription and the global economy is still recovering from the pandemic. My guess is that prices for PS5 games will fall quickly if you can wait just a few month longer, so be smart and vote with your wallet.
That would be silly. Why push Microsoft into a corner and prompt a price war. This will do neither company good. $400 is a very competitive price over Series S while Sony could choose to undercut Series X by about $50.
With a cross gen focus, developers are getting lazy with the mentality that 4K/60fps is good enough. The truth is we have seen this kind of boost on high end pc for years now and trying to selling them on a new generation of consoles just won't work.
@SilkySmile89 Ampere's price will result in both Microsoft and Sony receiving discounts from AMD which will lower the price of their consoles. With competition heating up from mobile, cloud and PC, it's hard to imagine the consoles costing over $500.
@Octane This is certainly true especially now that Polyphony is in eSports. I am not expecting a full package at launch but with monthly updates like GT Sport. Hope they will do better this time managing fans expectation, like an update schedule with what to expect in the coming months.
Demon Souls will seal the deal for millions of diehard soul fans along with Spider-man. GT7 is possible since Polyphony will want the latest version for eSports. On top of that, it shouldn't be too difficult for Sony to patch some of their best selling exclusives for their new system with full 4K 60/120 fps visual.
I believe Sony will want to price the PS5 at around $50 below that of Series X. It is wise for them to have Microsoft announced their pricing first. I doubt either will cost more than $499 given the competition and the economy.
I am curious what Sony would do once Microsoft drop their online paywall. With the 45 million PS Plus subscribers who may eventually migrate to a proper game subscription service, i think it is a good time for Sony to consider their own version of Game Pass.
Polyphony may be more aggressive with their launch schedule and have the game ready in 2020 for e-sport. New content can be added monthly like GT Sport.
I don't see any possibility of a change in the story but what Naughty Dog can do is a remake of the first TLOU for the PS5. There will also be a TV series based on the game which Naughty Dog can choose to further extend the earlier part of the story.
Starting their presentation with a paid update isn't the kind of message Sony wants to send to their fans. Microsoft is creating real value with their BC initiative. Sony should do the same.
At some point in the future, Naughty Dog may want to remake the original TLOU. There are so much they can do on the PS5. Better graphics, bigger world, intelligent AI, sound and top it off with all the improvement they made to Part II.
No reason to remaster Bloodborne when you already have backward compatibility. Didn't Sony already said that some PS4 games should be running at enhanced framerate and resolution? 4K and 60 fps are minor updates that are free on the Pro, One X and PC, no way Sony can get away charging for it.
Game events are mainly informational. It is not like you are throwing a party to celebrate something. A low-key event where you can take also several moment to reflect on the ongoing situation will do.
@pip_muzz I have to agree with you on this. They could have at least provide a low key version of the presentation. No one asked for a "celebration" gamers just wanted information.
Bluepoint did said that the project is a "reimagination" not just any remake. I don't know what that means but there may be gameplay tweaks to make the game more accessible.
Microsoft certainly has an edge with their backward compatibility and is a effective strategy on existing Xbox and new console gamers. PlayStation gamers will see less benefit from it since they already owned their games on the PS4. This give Sony time to work on those titles that do not pass the early BC test. Popular Sony exclusives could also see meaningful updates, beyond the standard higher resolution/fps. For example, patching existing titles with HQ texture, Tempest engine and DualSense support. Such updates, when given free, add value to existing customers and can create new marketing opportunity for these games on the PS5.
At some point, Naughty Dog should remake TLOU1 with Tempest Engine, Dualsense, better AI as well as all the improvement made to the second game. It will be awesome.
@Cooe You can't treat SSD like they are ram. The SSD bandwidth is measured in GB per sec but within 1 sec, a 30 fps game will need to access those data at least 30 times. There is a reason why memory bandwidth in XSX and PS5 are 560 and 448 GB/s respective. Storage data needs to be copied into VRAM before they can be used.
What fast storage does is not needing to precache data you won't be using at the moment (example, texture behind you) which effectively free up system memory.
There are many advantage to faster storage. Fast loading and traversal being some of them but it also frees up system memory allowing developers to build more detail world. Environment, like weather, seasons, can change in an instant and object can be realistically altered. I am excited what the next gen console can bring in terms of game immersion.
If Polyphony's focus is on esport, the best way to reach as many gamers as possible is a PS5 patch to GT Sports. They could up the fps or the texture details on the PS5 and still allow online matching across both platforms. I love to see GT 7 but Polyphony's history of delays and the sheer amount of contents from GT 6 will make it hard for them launch the new game this early.
@wiiware The engine is design to be highly scalable, what differentiate the PS5 is the high speed SSD which allow for 8K texture and high density geometry streaming. The demo will run on other systems but I suppose with texture quality toned down.
@DeepSpace5D I wondered how well those geometry decompresses as I remember Mark Cerny mentioning that their decompression engine is capable of delivering a maximum of 22GB/sec of data.
@DominatorV93 Microsoft did said that it is up to the dev how their game should run. From the way thing are going, dynamic resolution should be standard for next gen. I am hoping 60 fps would be a standard too.
Now we know why Microsoft needs to undercut Sony on the price of their next gen console! Imagine what Sony could do with their in house propriety engine.
I hope they will put more focus on realistic environment simulation like dynamic weather, day and night cycles, wind effects. These are not only cosmetic but can also add to the gameplay.
@Gladiator995 On the one hand you talked about opinion, yet you are actively deny that to others. How about for one moment you let the game developer express their opinion, play the game, before discussing the merits and their lack of.
@Akurusu I am thinking if you don't defeat the 'final boss', you get a second ending. There will be no Trophy for either of the endings, you can still platinum the game either way. Fans gets what they want, Naughty Dog gets theirs and not too difficult to implement. Naughty can even run a tally of the number of gamer making each choice. Its a fun way of letting fans have a voice in the game.
@Sanquine There are no excuse for the lack of professionalism on the part of the alleged leaker. Not like the rest of the industry is having a better time. They are known for long working hours, stress and tight schedules. For personal satisfaction, his action is adversely affecting the effort of his colleagues.
Naughty Dog should really consider taking this opportunity to give this game multiple endings. They are no longer bounded by release dates and could potentially turn this into an advantage.
That doesn't make a lot of sense. What if demand is way higher than expectation? Microsoft will be happy to make up the difference. Backward compatibility will drive early adaption and demand may be much higher than previous gens. Holding on to production wouldn't benefit Sony much since any excess will eventually be sold next year. You can always cut production later.
@Rob_230 Launching with PS5 along with a day one patch could really sell some of their new console. They could even do a TLoU themed PS5 with the game bundled.
I could almost hear Cerny's lament when he said "except that the memory will be 33% behind". Seems to me that he may have originally designed the system around 560GB/s memory but due to the price has to settle for something less.
