Development on The Last of Us: Part II is complete. The sequel to one of PlayStation's most highly regarded games has gone gold ahead of its 19th June release date.
Neil Druckmann, director of the upcoming survival action title, confirmed as much in a video message shared on the developer's Instagram page.
"I just wanted to take this moment to congratulate the team, that has pulled off the most ambitious game we’ve ever made," Druckmann says during the clip. He's also keen to recognise the patience of fans who've been waiting several years for the return of Joel and Ellie: "On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog, we want to say thank you to you guys. You’ve been very patient waiting for this game for years with us, and you’re just a few weeks away from getting it."
He ends the video with a clear message regarding the recent leaks. "No matter what you’ve seen, or heard, or read, nothing compares to playing this thing from beginning to end," Druckmann says. "It’s a video game, you’ve got to play it."
So, now we wait. The Last of Us: Part II is finally ready to go, and in just over a month we'll be playing it for ourselves. Are you excited to finally check this game out? Don't spoil things for others in the comments section below.

Congrats to Naughty Dog. Can't wait to play this at last
Can't wait to play this. Really looking forward to it.
I'm sure the comments section will be fine. If you're not interested in the game, then there are dozens of other stories on the homepage of the site to discuss. Just move on, please.
I still have the dynamic theme, but I want Ghost of Tsushima more
I apologize that my question is irrelevant to this article but I genuinely would like to know, why are you guys not covering Naughty Dog and SONY's censorship and false copy right claims against Youtubers for simply just stating their opinions on TLOU 2 without showing any leaked footage? Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing you guys of anything, I just genuinely would like to know.
I’m not reading any comment section until this thing launches. Day one.
@get2sammyb As long as there’s no slandering here I think everything should be fine.
@Akurusu You're much less likely to get "slandered" if you avoid unnecessary comments. You're looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima more — that's great! It's not really relevant to this thread, though, is it?
Excited for the game and kinda upset at how toxic and childish the gaming community is
@s22222 Don't really know enough about the situation. We've had false copyright claims from other publishers on our own YouTube channel before. It sucks, but these things usually get resolved.
Mad excited. I've avoided the spoilers and can't wait for the final product. I might do another play through on 1 whilst I'm waiting... it's not like I'm going anywhere.
I get all the exclusives, can't wait to play both Tlou2 and Got.
I am more excited for this game than I think I have ever been before. So great to hear from Neil Druckmann, I got emotional just listening to him talk about the game. Not much longer now!
@get2sammyb what do you really need to know more than that Naughty Dog and SONY have been filing false copyright claims? As you would be reporting what's happening and spreading the news, not providing analysis of the situation, hence you don't really need to know additional things in my opinion.
Yeah I was on the fence just because I thought it might be too dark for me, but who am I kidding, it looks good
@Aslanmagic I don't know what "too dark for you" means but it IS dark. It's definitely gonna be too dark for some people. ^^
Well done Neil and the team at Naughty Dog! I can't wait to play!
If it's as good as I hope, I might just forgive you for copyright striking my twitter for nothing!
Still highly pessimistic about the story quality.
Can't wait to give the game a play. I know my brother is super excited, he loved the first game and Uncharted 4.
@Akurusu Hey me as well. My wife was super put out with the leaks but we got lucky and got our refund from Sony right after the leaks came out. I still might pick up the last of us after reviews come out but for right now I am going to roll that $60 back into Ghosts. At least I got that sweet theme.
@s22222 I’m steering clear of most things TLOU2 related to avoid spoilers etc so I’m not sure what you’re specifically referring to. That said, if Sony and ND are censoring or filing copyright claims, it could be as simple as the YouTube videos, whether they show footage or not, are using TLOU2 logos or ND logos without permission.
Welp, im getting it day 1. Not buying it myself but the misses lost a bet regarding me quiting smoking hehe.
25 days before the date it was "indefinitely" delayed from 🤔
@Cornaboyzzz like compared to Animal Crossing 😂. I mean I enjoyed TLoU a lot, but my tastes have changed somewhat. I’m gonna play it anyway and push through because I know it’s going to be good
Having seen all the leaks, I'm so excited. I cannot wait to have my hands on this game and I'm so eager to see everything contextualised. Huge congrats to Neil and the team at Naughty Dog for getting this thing done.
Now give it to me 😋
That video has me more interested to play the game now. I have been a little hesitant because trailers seemed to be more dark and gratuitously violent and gorey than the first game, which isn’t quite my cup o’ tea. But when the developer who has played the game numerous times and knows it inside and out is moved to the point of crying when he played the final version, well - now you’ve got my attention.
Thats awesome, wont be playing it but I know this may be some peoples most anticipated of the generation. Hope it lives up to everyone's (realistic) expectations
Definitely getting day one, anything TLOU haven't looked at just encase of spoilers.
I though the first game was great at the time, though I played through once and never again. The Sequel is not something Ill be rushing out to get, but I will want to play it at some point.
@Th3solution I mean, he’s basically accused people who don’t like the leaks of being phobic. He has plenty of reasons to be emotional and damage control is one of them. I hate to be that guy, but my trust is very thin right now with Sony and ND. And in terms of it being dark unnecessarily, that’s actually a valid concern to have here.
Let's go boys, we are so close to playing this year's GOTY.
I'm more encouraged to get this day 1 now because of all the haters around recently and the leaks. I feel kind of sorry for ND as no one derseves that after spending so many years working on a game, only to have it splurged all over the internet.
@Aslanmagic It's definitely gonna be great, but you'll see by yourself if you like where they are going with the story.
@Th3solution A lot of people know what's inside the game by now. 😂
Looking forward to it. I've avoided spoilers, though I do have some concerns.
But I loved the original, and everything ND have done since PS3 - aside from Horizon, they've made the only games in 40+ years of gaming that I've ever kept and played repeatedly after completing them.
So rather than jump on the hate bandwagon, I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt (I feel they've earned that) and see for myself. I'm sure the gameplay will be top-notch regardless; as for the story, if I feel it's agenda-driven after playing it, I'll comment about it then.
Can't wait for the game
Very excited about the game and and shell be making sure i have it to play at midnight when it launches, so happy pre-loading is a thing because 100gb will take a few hours haha
All the hype for this game is gone for me. I think I'll play it at some point, but I've got too much going on and too many other games that I'm sure I'll enjoy more. I wasn't the hugest fan of the original either, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it more when I have nothing else to play.
As it stands now, I don't really feel like playing it, let alone buying it. Also don't care for Druckman, so his heartfelt words are completely meaningless to me.
Hope everyone enjoys the game, and avoids spoilers if that's what they want!
It is time.
My body is ready.
Not sure my emotions will be ready though. I love The Last of Us IP, but man it's an emotional rollercoaster - in the best way!
@Jeremiah_Thor That’s the spirit. The box art is sick too
@Jaz007 You know you could try to not start drama.
"It’s a video game, you’ve got to play it."
Apparently the "I'm not interested anymore because of leaks" squad think it's a movie Neil.
Honestly, I’m not interested what’s going on at ND and Sony. Nobody’s perfect. Also, I don’t care about the hate on the internet surrounding TLoU2. I just want to play the game. ^^
I have it pre ordered and looking forward to it. Loved the first one and platinumed it. I’m glad to hear it’s gone gold cause then it’s guaranteed to release👍
My mate annoyed me the other day by saying he wasn’t getting it cause of listening to all the hate. I said “have a word with yourself son, play it first then judge” Geeez 😳
Fantastic. Sitting on my pre-order since last year. I just needed the art book.
DAY1!
N.i.c.e. word up son
Buzzing roll on the 19th
Go watch ANGRYJOE on YouTube and you will understand.
@Oscarjpc No thanks I’m good 👍🏻
Next I hope we get something from sucker punch whom are creating ghost of Tsushima I also just want a video of naughty dog director playing ghosts of Tsushima and sucker punch director playing the last of us part 2.
@Oscarjpc Angry Joe hasn’t played the game from start to finish either, so he doesn’t know the full context of what happens, just like us. Until critic reviews come out, every YouTuber that has an opinion on the game is redundant.
@JesWood13 Ikr ?! Crazy. people already judging the game not only they didn't play it themselves THEY watched a "YouTuber" that never touched the game too. We are really in weird timeline.
@Paranoimia , Guerrilla Games made Horizon
@s22222 my sentiments exactly. Well said. great question. Where's your coverage of this Push Square? You all are on Youtube. What they're doing affects you all as well. Would you ever want your honest opinions of something hushed because the creator of a product you were covering did not like them? I'm sure the answer has to be "no" correct?
@Jimmy1974 Yes, I know. I meant they've made the only games I've kept to replay, apart from Guerrilla's Horizon.
@Paranoimia oh do you? Yes can't wait to hear your thoughts on whether it's agenda driven. HINT - A STORY IS A STORY. If you don't like the story or don't agree with it, that is your issue, it does not mean it's an agenda. As much as telling the story of a straight male and female love story is an agenda. You massive, backwards, bellend.
F the hate. Who cares what Druckmann thinks outside the games he helps create. Everyone enjoy what will be, at the very least, a technical and mechanical marvel.
@AFCC tup your right ghost is almost in our hands
@Spinachie As you've apparently just joined up here, I suggest that before you go throwing around knee-jerk reactionary insults, you go check previous articles about the game for my comments, in particular the one just after the initial reveal of the game with the kiss, when everyone first started losing their sh*t about it. I love ND and have constantly defended this game against those 'outraged' by that scene, here and elsewhere. I've even recently received some ridicule for doing so.
I have no issues with the characters sexuality whatsoever. I have 2 gay cousins, 1 lesbian cousin, and one very close lesbian friend.
If the story feels natural, which given experience with their previous games I choose to believe it will, that's fine. However, if it feels forced and designed to push a point of view on the player, that's what I'd object to - not because I believe the point of view to be wrong, but because I don't believe anyone should force their views on others, whatever they may be. I said I would "comment on it then" because I don't believe I'll have to bother. I believe ND are better than that.
Hopefully that sets you straight.
Well one problem that when the game was leaked and everyone heard about what will happen in the game, the people who heard about it and saw it, they changed their minds on playing the game. So I wonder how long the game will last for people, like how long will it stay popular.
The mechanics look great and the story seems to be good, but I'll wait after I'm done with GoT and CP2077.
@Paranoimia it doesn't I'm afraid. Your view as to something being an agenda is because you may or may not agree with that view. If Druckman was a woman and lesbian, would it have been ok for him to tell the story of a lesbian because it is his life view? Like a straight man telling the love story between a man and a woman like 99% of games?
The fact you have gay family is moot. Parents of gay kids disown their kids for being gay, so that does not hold water.
@shafedog247 what you just said is incorrect, there's a streamer on youtube who his stream got shut down and got a false copy right strike for simply talking about TLOU2, he showed absolutely nothing of the game, not even the game's logo, also he didn't spoil the game in the stream.
A lot of the weight behind the game has diminished because of the leaks. Less so because the story is out there, more so because it's been so heavily criticised now. The worst part is that people who don't want the game spoiled can't look into what supposedly makes it poor, but I get the feeling that neither can they just go out and spend money on something that might not be to quality. It's not a good start for the game, but irrespective it will probably still sell like any ND game does.
@Paranoimia I don't think I've played a single game that hasn't inferred a strong sociopolitical angle, minus simple arcade games and such.
@megacarlos Exactly
@s22222 because those pages contain spoilers. If not the video then the stupid comments. You can't even have a decent conversation because just in a minute or 2 of scrolling down you got a stupid troll posting spoilers and ruining the suprise for many. The YouTubers aren't cleaning it up so that's what happens.
@usaislie It’s absolutely f$&@ing ridiculous, and absurd. Now the only reason I’m mad is my friend ,whom I trusted their opinion on the matter, baited me into reading the spoilers so it’s not gonna be a surprise for me anymore.
The leaks came out because Neil Cuckman and his ND crew are pandering to a specific group while demonizing another. Before any soy white knights get at me I know that it's a game. Games are entertainment and entertainment as a whole have been historically used to paint narratives and push agendas. So far the reaction by Sony and ND are not encouraging confirming that they're in a bad place.
Enjoy "The woke of us 2" or "They laugh at us 2" if you're looking forward to it. Just don't try and white knight for big corporations that don't care about you.
Day 1! I actually don’t even have a PS4 anymore, but I’m picking up a new Slim just for TLoU: Part II.
I’m basing my decision to get the game on the quality of Naughty Dog’s previous efforts including TLoU, not the naysayers online who haven’t played a minute of this game. You guys are hilarious trying to act like this isn’t going to be one of the most incredible games ever made.
I was very much looking forward to this but unfortunately it sounds like garbage, I'll play it when it's on PlayStation Plus in 5 years
@Adarie21 painting all criticism as childish and toxic is childish and toxic in of itself 🙄
@s22222 I never said I was correct or incorrect, just offered a possible explanation of what could have been a reason for the censoring. Like I said I’m avoiding everything TLOU2 related to steer clear of spoilers.
@get2sammyb So, no one should say anything negative about this game. This thread is only for people who are in love with it before they've even played it. Got it.
@JesWood13 confirmed plot and discussion of said plot is completely redundant? 🙄
@shafedog247 yep, manually detected copyright flagging on established YouTube channels, manual means a person watched it and said nah, copyright strike for you, also this happened to videos that contained no Naughty Dog or TLOU2 content wahtsoever and was just YouTubers discussing the leaks
Sony should bring back Hennig and set her up at the San Diego studios...
I loved the light hearted she added in her games...
@Spinachie I'm not claiming there's an agenda because there's something I disagree with. I'm not claiming there's an agenda at all. I'm merely concerned that there might be.
I haven't read the leaks. I don't know enough to agree or disagree with anything. I've read/heard/seen angry people saying how "disgusting" it is, and that it's pushing an agenda. I've no idea what they're referring to, and I don't want to know before I play.
I could hazard a guess from the ridiculous hate which has gone before, but I've also read comments which suggest it's something else.
But I loved the first game, and have been looking forward to this since it was announced, and nothing is going to stop me playing it. I pre-ordered it just the other day, after news of the leaks broke.
I'll play it for myself and form my own opinion. If I feel there's anything in the 'agenda' claims, I'll say so, regardless of whether I agree with it or not. I'll also say if I think it's all been BS over nothing, which - given the nature of the internet - seems likely. Of course, I don't expect you or anyone else to give a damn about what I think, one way or the other... but that is what the comment section is for.
There's a good article on Forbes about politics in games, and how they should provoke thought but not be agenda-based. It mentions the original Last Of Us and how it made you think without trying to push you towards a particular point of view. That's how I feel it should be done. It would be a shame, in my personal opinion, if the sequel has gone the other way. Not because of any particular subject matter, but for the reasons stated in the article.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2019/02/01/should-video-games-be-political-the-answer-is-complicated/amp/
@Mythologue There are enough around. But it's not politics I object to, it's when someone tries to push people towards a certain way of thinking.
I've mentioned elsewhere the fact that some sections of the media seem to insist that any game with politics in it must push the player towards a particular point of view or conclusion. Ubisoft have been a regular target for them in recent years, particularly with Far Cry 5 and Breakpoint.
The Forbes article I linked in my previous comment explains why it's a bad idea better than I can.
Not buying it so HA!!!!
I'll probably play it on PS5 one day.
Even if I'm not a fan, insane amount of work has been done. I hope people enjoy it.
Great news from Naughty Dog and really happy for everyone who will be buying the game on release. Sadly my backlog is still massive and it would be pointless for me to buy on day one. I’ve gone this long without spoilers - I reckon I can keep going!
@Sanquine Damn! You did well out of that! I wonder which vice I could offer to give up!
@OGGamer I have been attacked by these soy white knights saying I'm a sexist, a bigot..manly toxic against attractive women. But in all, I'm not getting this game due to its political agenda and how they butchered the story like the first game didn't really matter. I have no respect for a company that has to be so salty about opinions and Soy Sony has to block and flag YouTube channels for discussing the leaks with no footage showing so Soy Sony and Soy Naughty Girl flagged youtubers channel for nothing is illegal and this is why I'm not supporting Sony's business they can keep Sjws money I'm not supporting them or the agenda.
This game is gonna be awesome. Hands down the last of us was and is so far the greatest game ever made.. totally hyped for the follow up. Roll on June for some soul searching campaign moments. #NAUGHTYDOGRULE
@DeepSpace5D absolutely amazing. Xbox players that's all they are. Crack on with forza and we will look forward to another masterpiece!!
@PCPS4XB companies don't have the right to claim the copy rights of a YT video due to the comments as it's not part of the published content.
@shafedog247 I understood your point in your first comment, when I said what you said is incorrect I was referring to what the possibility you mentioned was based on, which an incorrect thing that never happened and hence your possibility is also incorrect.
@s22222
I recently posted comments with articles that presented a negative view on the leaks recently and the moderators asked me to private message them so I did because they wouldn’t state on the article why they were being removed. When I asked why my comments were being removed they basically came back with “We don’t like you being negative about TLOU”. Wouldn’t surprise me if Pushsquare has some kind of sponsorship deal with Naughty Dog or something, never a single non-positive article about any of their games but plenty about other games.
@Scraggler Again I don’t understand this mentality with loyal fans of the studio labelling other fans who are concerned about the game as wrong and idiotic. It just screams over the top loyalty to me. Imagine a society where no negative opinions were allowed and everyone just believed everything companies say out of blind loyalty? That’s exactly the case with this situation.
@Gladiator995 On the one hand you talked about opinion, yet you are actively deny that to others. How about for one moment you let the game developer express their opinion, play the game, before discussing the merits and their lack of.
Played the first part a few years ago when it was a PS Plus game. I really enjoyed the game however I must admit that I only ever played through it the once having got quite a few other games to play through at the time. Now I'd really like to play through the first part again so that I'm ready to play through part 2, however I started playing the Witcher 3 a month ago and am well into that now, then also have Days Gone to play, that I bought when it was at a good price. So far I've managed to avoid the leaks however I feel the longer I leave it before playing part 2 the more chance I've got of seeing the story. What should I do?!?!
his Heartfelt Message have now at the moment 17k down votes on youtube, lol
@s22222 well if you read all of YouTube’s user agreement, or any user agreement that has public comment response sections, you’ll find that the original poster of any video can be held responsible for some of the comments. So if they posted a video And it had comments that were in violation of the user agreement, or infringed on copyrights, then it can be removed. Sounds like you’re trying to make more of this than what it is.
I dont usually do this but when the game is released and if the story twists are what I think they are, I'm going to have a small rant (for me 2 lines or sentences) and call out a certain community for what they are.
I don’t usually leave comments on sites, just read them. But just wanted to say I’m so excited for this game no matter the leaks. I chose not to look at them. I only know of one story surprise. I loved the first game and can’t wait for the game to finally release.
The question I’m wondering is since the game has gone gold, why is it not releasing on its original release date of May 29, which in and of itself was already pushed back from February? That’s still 3 and a half weeks from now. I understood the reason they gave was they just weren’t going to be able to polish it or bug fix it in time to make that date. But it’s gone gold meaning it’s done. No reason to delay it another 3 weeks.
Oh and before anyone says because of the corona virus they weren’t sure every one could play it on time. Final Fantasy and Resident Evil both shipped. I still see 4K blu rays coming out every week on time. I can go right now to Walmart or Target or Best Buy curbside pick up and buy the new movies that come out each week. I live in Las Vegas and they’re already planning to reopen some casinos.
I’m buying Last of Us digital so I don’t care. But they could have released it digital. Still shipped to stores so they don’t piss off the distributors/retailers. And when they put them out, that’s on them. Even if it’s a couple days late to a certain store. People will still buy it if they choose to shop there. Look at the final fantasy release fiasco. I was upset stores in Australia were selling it 2 weeks early. Enough so I looked into importing it for a couple hundred dollars. It is what it is. I just wish the leaks never happened cause of all the haters trying to tarnish the game before anyone’s played it.
@shafedog247 I just read the YouTube’s user agreement and didn't find what you mentioned, can you provide me with the source and let me know where exactly in the source you read that? Assuming that what you claimed is true, are spoilers without showing any footage or content owned by a certain company give companies the right to flag those videos? Since when did companies own the right of people talking about their products? If that was true, how come articles from major news outlets that discuss spoilers in movies and video games don't get sued? If you believe that they do have the rights on that, please provide me with source. And no I'm not trying to make more of it than what it is, I'm just simply discussing my honest point of view.
My wife will play this on release as im still neck deep into Kingdom come deliverance. So she'll let me know if it's decent or if it's another example of identity politics being shoved into something that doesn't need it.
@Odin1985x I guarantee that were they receiving POSITIVE feedback from leaks they wouldn't be flagging anything.
@s22222 He can't. What they did is blatant copyright abuse and is illegal.
@Gladiator995 Let's see what the moderater's do with these comments.
@s22222 I neither have the time nor the energy to go thru the fine print of a EULA to find a specific line to address this, but almost every EULA has a line about this. If it isn’t in YouTube’s, then it’s in Sony’s. When you’re talking about publications giving spoilers and talking about spoilers, it’s typically after something has launch and has been in the wild and in the hands of the public. When you factor in the method of how TLOU2 spoilers were acquired...via theft, then what’s the issue with them protecting their property by having posts taken down?
@TheBuzz It's 48K downvotes vs 17k likes now
@mini_piekarnik Oh, so you’ve played the game already from start to finish? Yeah, answer’s no so you don’t know ANYTHING other than what’s been leaked. Your opinion is irrelevant as well. Come talk to me when the game’s out and you can confirm for yourself that it’s trash.
The most talented developer. Can not wait to play the game
@rockhopper78 I think they want to give us the best possible release so with as little patches as possible thats what im hoping for.
@Flaming_Kaiser I understand that and it makes sense. But the game has gone gold which means it’s done and submitted. They’re all ready to start printing the discs and sending them to distribution. If a patch is needed it can be submitted and uploaded so it can be available to download on day one of release. I’m sure there will be patches after release as well. It happens with many games.
I just assumed with the delay the game wasn’t done yet but close. But with the story of it going gold I wonder why the need to delay. But it’s only 3 weeks longer after May 29. Not too big a deal. But then it pushes back Ghost of Tsushima which must upset people looking forward to that just cause Sony doesn’t want 2 of their biggest games coming out at same time. Anyways I’m just so excited to play the game. And after today’s trailer I’m even more hyped.
@shafedog247 whether what you claim is true or not doesn't matter now since it has been proven that SONY and Naughty Dog false flagged the videos I referred to as those copy right claims are to getting removed by Youtube, which means they are false.
