Bluepoint Games is, technically, the only developer that Sony’s confirmed to be working on a PlayStation 5 project. In reality, we know that all of its teams will be knee-deep in next-gen development by now, but you may recall Mark Cerny revealing that the Texas team has a “big game” in the pipeline for the platform as far back as last year.
And it looks like we may get our first glimpse at the title during next week’s big PS5 games reveal event. Writing on Twitter in response to the confirmation of PlayStation’s Future of Gaming showcase, technical director Peter Dalton said: “I’m so excited for the future. It is time to push forward and leave our old gaming limitations behind us.”
The Japanese giant has been eager to stress that its livestream will demonstrate what its next-gen console can do that its current one can’t. Rumours suggest that Bluepoint Games is busy beavering away on a Demon’s Souls Remake, and if that’s the case, expect it to look absolutely spectacular. All will be revealed in a few days.

Call me a fake gamer or a casual but I hope to god they make an easy mode for the remake.
I love difficulty and all but Souls games drive me up the wall, I love their combat and atmospheres just wanna experience that without dying many times 😂
Given how rampant this rumour is, you'd figure if it wasn't true they'd have addressed it by now. Right? Right.
Gaming Gods, let this one be true.
I’d have to imagine Bluepoint is a lock for the event after a tweet like that.
@thebakerswife Well, Demon's Souls was the one that started it all, but even though it's an excellent game, it's actually pretty outdated and old compared to the games that came after. It would benefits from a remake.
Anybody hoping the Legacy of Kain rumor is true? Mobile doesnt let you see the other comments when you post so apologies ahead of time if someone else said this. I have to refresh the page and scroll around to know for sure
You know some part of me is a little skeptical about it being a demon souls remake. Sure the fans of the series absolute love it but it is kinda niche. A lot of my gamer friends dont like those punishing games. I secretly wish it's a syphon filter, legends of dragon, or silent hill remake
I really, really hope it's not another Souls game, personally.
Please dear lord I hope it's a Demon's Souls remake. I'd love to see that game get a major facelift.
It better be DeS Remake with how long they've let that rumor be fed.

@playstation1995 that's good for you mate! But if I'm paying £450-500 for a console at launch I want to experience it's exclusives and have fun not grind over my precise button presses for hours on end.
You can still have a hard mode for people who relish a challenge like yourself, but a remakes sole purpose is opening up an existing established IP to a new audience and what better than throwing a bone to those who work long tiring jobs, are older or younger than most, or just don't take gaming seriously to the point of becoming tryhards.
Adding a story mode/newcomer mode hurts noone and will likely boost sales if anything.
@DonJorginho Stop! You will make Miyazaki cry.
Bluepoint needs to be SIE.
Do we know for sure it's a remake? I can't see a Demon Souls Remake being the best way to leave old limitations behind. I'd be overjoyed to be proven wrong if they can do it right, but I'm wondering if it's gonna be something that's fully designed for next gen.
souls game do not need a hold my hand mode. defeats the point of its design.
p.s you got the definition of what a remake's intended purpose very
wrong don
I've never played Demon Souls or any Dark Souls game. Just a bit of Bloodborne but it still in my backlog. Last days I've been playing Jedi Fallen Order and only by the end of the game I've started to understand how to combat properly ( difficulty Jedi Master)... so now I'm interested in these kind of games, BUT... Being demon souls so "old"… how it can a remake harness the all the PS5 has to offer? For sure it will have almost no load times and nicer visuals, but level design and enemies and stuff must be the same as they were, otherwise it will be a different game, isn't? I'm asking those whom love the game so I can understand better.
Still praying we’ve got it all wrong and it’s Metal Gear Solid Remake. Haha.
@DonJorginho i dont mind difficulty modes in games at all, they are fine. But not in souls games, in all honesty they are not as hard as people suggest, just learning enemy location and movesets. And when u do die its really not that huge of a penelty.
@DonJorginho
Don't worry! Since loading screen are gone..
The feeling of dying is less painless.
@DonJorginho The best advice for Souls games, they are still RPGs at heart. Treat them more like an RPG, stay in an area and grind a few levels until you feel ready to move on and it will make all the difference.
@Nyne11Tyme Whoah whoah whoah waitasec. What Legacy of Kain rumour!?
@DonJorginho I'm a big Souls fan and like others have no need/desire for an easy mode personally, but I 100% agree that there should be one as an option for those that just want to enjoy it casually and, even mor eimportantly, disabled gamers that may struggle with the 'core' experience. Weird misconception out there sometimes that adding options for one group of people means taking away from another. Bizarre.
Bluepoint did said that the project is a "reimagination" not just any remake. I don't know what that means but there may be gameplay tweaks to make the game more accessible.
I'm still hoping it could be a reboot or something completely new.
And yes maybe that Silent Hill reboot rumour
I bought Bloodbourne for £30. Played for a few hours in total and only just got passed about 2 enemies. Just died, died, died over and over. The game looks awesome but I’ll never get to see or experience it and I wasted £30.
Will avoid known difficult games forever more. I don’t get Time to learn character positions, movements etc so being excited for ps5 and releasing a souls remake will be a big let down for me.
Would love a really exciting new IP that could only be done by PS5 and not an old IP that just looks like a prettier version of a PS4 game.
Tbh I would rather it be another game since I am not a fan of these types of games and the lack of a difficulty slider is just stupid imo. I dont want to spend 100 hours dying over and over and over... I play games for fun not to be destroyed and defeated every 5 seconds :/
Hoping its Silent Hills (MGS 1 remake would be my dream but I seriously doubt its MGS)
@DonJorginho Yeah, I like from software games gameplay and exploration but I just didn't have the patience or time to replay about 1 hour of gameplay when I died. I hope they make normal mode for the rest of us, like god of war or tlou remaster normal mode, which is the perfect difficulty for me, not too hard but still challenging 😃
Edit: Or at least put the save points before boss like blasphemous.
Where have the demons souls rumours even grown from? BP themselves did a tweet that covered everything from demons souls to syphon filter to legacy of kain to metal gear solid to pretty much every other ps game series. It's entirely speculation and the internet seems just to have ran with it. Personally, I definitely hope it is NOT demons souls.
I'd rather they remake a good game instead.
Like Legend Of Dragoon
@MattSilverado there's a lot of online features that are kinda integral to experiencing the game properly. I never used to understand it upon demon soul's release, but it's a similar system to what's going on with dark souls. You use embers to interact with online, but if you die you're disconnected from that 'world', but you need to be 'alive' to see different npcs, and interact with the world, and somehow, whether you die a lot or not can change the npcs you meet and difficulty of the game. I think a rework to modernise it and clarify some of the bakckground workings could be a great help to revitalising the game!
@nookie_egg
The Demon’s Souls rumors have come from Colin Moriarty,
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/09/demons_souls_remaster_rumours_just_wont_go_away
And Jason Schreier,
https://www.resetera.com/threads/think-we’ll-ever-get-a-demon-souls-remaster.101879/
Both pretty well-informed insiders.
@thebakerswife No no no, not a remaster. Remake, as in it’ll look very noticeably different. Like wayyyyy wayyyyy better than just a remaster. Possibly new content too? Who knows, can’t wait to find out for sure though!
@DeepSpace5D they may well be "well informed" but doesn't necessarily mean that everything they say will turn out to be true. Personally, the other titles have just as much chance imo. They have said its the biggest project they've ever undertaken.and to me Demons souls doesn't scream that. If anything (again, imo) their (2nd) sotc project would have been bigger than DS. I'm intrigued either way as I love BP, but think they are able to do bigger, better, more mass appeal projects. We shall find out soon I guess.
@nookie_egg
Of course it doesn’t mean it’s 100% accurate.
But you asked where the rumors came from, and this is where most of the internet started speculating about it. In my opinion, it at least should be more likely than the other games mentioned in Bluepoint’s tweet, just for the fact that additional insiders have talked about that game in particular out of all the games mentioned in that cryptic tweet.
I don’t think I agree about Shadow of the Colossus being larger in scope to Demon’s Souls. It may have more square yards geographically, but aside from the Colossi, fruit in trees, and lizards at savepoints, it’s mostly just land with little-to-no interactivity.
Compare that to the scope of locations in Demon’s Souls, the variety of enemies, NPCs, the RPG mechanics, all the items, weapons, armor, etc. If both games were to be remade from the ground up with new assets, I think Demon’s Souls would be more complicated due to its amount of content. Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite game of all time, but its overall design complexity came from the PS2 era originally.
I find over the years that games seem to be getting much easier than they used to be, I enjoy a challenging game but these days they are few and far between, to hear people say they want these games to be made easier is worrying to me, you may say how will a difficulty slider effect things, but where does it end, people will start complaining that trophies are locked behind harder difficulties make it easier so I can get them all. I think if you know a game is challenging and that’s not your cup of tea, play something else
I hope that Bluepoint make something entirely new. Remakes are good and all, but for a brand new console I'd much rather see a brand new game to go with it. Maybe the Demon Souls remake a year after launch...
I just don't think re releasing a game (no matter how fancily redone) is the best way to kick off your console launch
"it's time to leave our our old gaming limitations behind" = remake?
I can't see it!
I've preferred watching others play the souls games rather than try and finish my own playthroughs of DS 2/3, I might just try and finish it straight off if it drops early on ps5
Will this new game feature a giant enemy crab?
@SegaBlueSky some rumors are swirling on the web that the reason everyone thinks Demon Souls remake is because Bluepoint wants tough combat in there Legacy of Kain remake. Being an SE IP and their good relationship with Sony i thought It didnt sound entirely unreasonable
@DonJorginho Just get good, if the developers make the game difficult as an artistic choice and don't want to add in an easy mode then let them. It's pretty clear that these aren't for you.
@Nepp67 Very mature response, must have used a lot of brain power coming up with that zinger 😉
@DonJorginho I know it was a very mature response. It isn't for you and the games being difficult as an artistic choice is fine. Get good.
If they are looking to leave their limitations behind, would that not mean that they are venturing into a new IP not a remake? O_O
@SoulChimera haha, would lmao if it would be anything else at this point. And I absolutely agree that a (very unlikely) mgs remake announcement would knock the ball out of the park.
@NeilBreen best profile pic 😂 now go throw some old laptops off your desk.
Out of all the souls games imo demon souls was the best. I liked how you had to change the world from light to dark to see everything and that took patience.
Out of them all its the one I want to see the most on ps5 and not a remake it was perfect just a remastered will do.
@Nyne11Tyme Hi there. I would absolutely love a Legacy of Kain series remake and actualy finishing the story. Such an amazing series, with great voice acting, fantastic writing(Amy Henning, Uncharted series), good balance between combat, puzzles and platforming sections and a very interesting world. Vampire story game done right. Cheers and happy gaming to everyone.
Bluepoint + Japan Studios = Bloodborne 2
@DonJorginho God no! Worst idea ever. The day they add an easy mode to Soulsborne games or Nioh is the day the coolness and uniqueness of that genre is dead and gone. The challenge is part of the design. This genre isn’t for you if you want an easy mode.
@thebakerswife They will probably do it like Shadow of the Colossus, but change some mechanics to make it more on par with the new games.
Yeah, Shadow of the Colossus is the same game, but it was definitely remade from the ground up, you can't have this much graphical improvement with a simple remaster. Plus they fixed the controls (well, not completely, it's still horrible in the controls department, just not as bad).
See who needs E3?
@DonJorginho souls games aren’t even that hard. You just have to be patient and methodical. Patient. Methodical. Many gamers don’t seem to understand these words.
Not saying that’s you btw. We just seem to live in a world where gamers want instant wins, instant gratification, to be told exactly where to go and what to do in games.
@zimbogamer I just can't see how it can be. The gameplay is so specific, how can you re-imagine it - you'd upset so many fans. On the other hand, it is niche, in terms of sales, that it doesn't sound likely.
@DonJorginho I can understand but if you take away the difficulty the games would be way less fun somehow. I always love it when im finally good enough too beat a boss if it would be easy i think i would be done with the franchise soon.
@darksoul77 I loved that hub where you come too unwind.
@DonJorginho Ain't no baby mode in a souls game brother.
@Loftimus I'm pretty sure that was a reference to the console.
As much as I love souls games, fromsoft have put a game out pretty steadily every 18-24 months for the last few years and combined with nioh and surge releases, the genre might get a bit played out. Metal gear one remake would be freaking brilliant. Top choice for a remake that will never happen, gta san Andrea's!
Metal Gear Solid Remake would be so much better.
given that The Last Guardian is out, Shadow of the Colossus was redone... I'd be up for a reimagined ICO. Disappointment incoming.
@Arnna I agree. While there is deep lore in the Souls games, at their core they are gameplay focused experiences. They aren't structured like story-driven and story-focused games at all. There is a delicate balance that would be undone by an easy mode. They'd essentially be different games.
The real enemy in DeS is those loading screens.
If this reveal happens and all they deliver are fancy graphics and sound with no real new features or functionality, they will lose my interest.
If all I want are better graphics, I'll buy a new graphics card for my PC.
If I was a betting man, my money is on Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver, NOT Demon Souls.
@Nepp67 aww clever boy lol. You tried!
@Arnna Thas the exact problem who wants to waste hours and hours. Some just want to have fun when they play a game.
100 hours on dark souls is not proof your awsome lol most comment i read imply dark souls require your time not ability!
I want a difficulty mode that means i can enjoy a game without throwing hours of my life away at the exact same thing over and over again.
Most people beat dark souls by probability by the sound of it.
We already have work for that.
@Mince there are plenty of games you can play if you want to sail through and have everything handed to you on a platter.
Sounds like FROM SOFT games aren’t for you. You seem to be entirely missing the point - these games are an alternative to games which hold your hand. Adding an easy mode would mess up the design of the games so much they wouldn’t be the same.
They are balanced that way. Try calming down and playing Uncharted or something.
@Arnna
considering the original point is to reduce difficult, i didn't miss anything i simple disagree with your opinion, as you do mine.
The only thing that would change is a difficulty selection screen. No design changes needed to normal difficulty mode, but feel free to explain your point there cause it makes no sense otherwise!
No need for me to calm down only person trying to be offensive is you. With your easy gaming comments.
@Arnna Playing a game doesn't alway have to be about Having it handed to you or playing the hardest game. Some games like theme hospital for example have a sandbox mode which doesn't fit into your simple track ‘sail through’ narrative really does it.
@Mince
Last time I checked we were discussing action games, not simulations.
You’re still missing the point. Most action games use artificial means to increase or decrease the difficulty. Usually the higher the difficulty, the less health the player has and the more health the enemies have. Or replace that with damage dealt. Or some variation on that.
FROMSOFT games are designed differently. They are designed to encourage careful play, hedging your bets in certain situations, calculated risks. They are also designed to be played in a methodical way and learning from your past mistakes.
They are also role playing games, and depending on what builds you use, certain areas and situations will be easier or harder.
Part of the beauty of these games is everyone’s experience is going to be wildly different depending on their setup.
In order to achieve this level of flexibility, the game’s difficulty needs to be balanced for a bunch of varied play styles.
This is no easy task. There are a lot of variables. Simply making the enemies have less health or something similar simply wouldn’t work.
They are not unfairly difficult, but you cannot play them like you would play a more casual game and you need to be patient and take your time and learn what the game requires of you through repetition.
Another design quirk of these games is, the story isn’t told in a linear way like for example Uncharted. The game requires you to actively search for and unravel pretty obtuse lore in order to understand what is going on. There aren’t simply cut scenes with exposition.
For all these reasons, having an easy mode would be absolutely against the entire design ethos of the games. It would be game-breaking and pointless.
These games are not for everyone and expecting a developer to change their entire design strategy for the sake of making a small percentage of gamers happy, is weird and entitled behaviour.
Unless you’ve actually played these games for any length of time you really can’t understand.
@Arnna ok that explanation makes more sense, So basically they could do a easy mode but it would require reprogramming or a lot more work at the least. St which point they might as well remaster the game for existing fans!?
Makes sense, but still doesn't change the fact I want to play it but not willing to invest the time or patience.
The hours are not the problem, it just want peoplea re looking for in games i suppose. Then you get people like me who want to play a little of everything
@Mince All good.
There are still plenty of ways to make these games easier, if you look up how to make certain builds.
You can also grind a bit earlier in the game and level up to make them easier, but by the sounds of it, grinding for levels isn’t something you want to do.
Some games aren’t for everyone, some games have mass appeal.
@Mince Not all games appeal to everyone bud. If you don't want to put in the time to learn the mechanics then play something else.
"It is time to push forward and leave our old gaming limitations behind us."
In my mind, "pushing forward" doesn't go hand in hand with remaking an 11-year-old game.
@Paranoimia I commented that as well. Considering they are known for remasters. This exact quote tells me it isn't a remake.
Such a waste if it’s demons souls. Why remake a game already in HD when you can do something so much more grand from ps1/ps2 era that could actually show benefit from an upgrade.
