Re: Soapbox: Why Sony's PS5 Strategy Will Pay Dividends

Sony will certainly support PS4 for another year or tow given their 'hardcore' PS5 strategy. Games will continue to be release on both platform via backward compatibility but enhanced for PS5. Even so, I doubt they will price above $500. Anything significantly above this will make it difficult for them the to eventually target the mainstream market with lower price.

Lowering the price of the base PS4 during the upcoming holiday season and packaging them with games will help Sony gather just a few more customers who many eventually make it onto the PS5. Redesigning the console will probably add to the cost without much tangible benefits. Ps4 isn't a handheld, making them any smaller would do much.

I feel that Sony is going all out in the specs department which should make sufficient provision for Ray Tracing and VR for the foreseeable future. This means they will have less need for a mid gen update compare to the PS4.

Re: Guide: How Much Will the PS5 Cost?

All the news we heard so far seems to point to a price higher than $399. $499 will be comfortable for many as we have already seen that on the Xbox One X. On the subject of SSD, I believe that we will getting it in the form of a onboard cache. The system will still come with a HDD which user can upgrade. This will bring down the cost significantly. Sony is also going to patch some of their popular titles to run on the more powerful system which will be an incentive for PS4 users.
