Re: The Final Days of Play Community Challenge Is Live Now

frankmcma

@Jecht_Ultima My biggest wish for PS5, aside from USB saves of course, is themes. The wallpaper ads or whatever they are called, look so visually uncomfortable.

There was one...it might have been for GTA5, pic of a car, that was properly framed for the space. But most others, including the recent one of Aloy where the top row blocks her head from being seen, are not formatted for the PS menus and interface. Wish there was a news page in the top row you could visit instead of the current layout.

Although I have seen almost no articles on the visual clutter, so people must be OK with it.

Re: The Division Heartland Announced, a Free-to-Play, Standalone Division Game

frankmcma

Love, LOVE the Division 2 (now in the top 3 of my games with the most hours of gameplay..with Borderlands 3 and Fallout 76) there is something so compelling about the gameplay loop, amazing graphics on the PS5 and metric ton of content. Current season (rerun) of Reanimated where the bad guys spring back to life and you have to zombie headshot them…is so very fun this week.

D2 is mainly (I think) PVE. You play as if you are playing a single player Fallout 4. But with a button click you can “call for backup” and a random will join you live and help. And then leave. This sense of single player with multi only when I want it is awesome and I hope they can keep that spirit with the new project. Very excited!

Re: Open World Action RPG Genshin Impact Is Out Now on PS5

frankmcma

@peppermillian Hmmm...I was just about to ask if you could start a new game. I played for maybe 5-10 hours at launch and then got distracted with other games, even though I was very impressed with it. I wanted to get the PS5 version and start fresh because I don't remember much of what happened. I hope they update with a "new game" option soon.

Re: Genshin Impact Gets 8 Minutes of 4K, 60FPS Gameplay on PS5

frankmcma

I was very impressed, played for 10 or so hours, thinking this is the PS BOTW that I wanted. But then Immortals came along and I was like THIS is the PS BOTW I wanted. Maybe I just like cell shaded grass. Anyway, I have been wanting to return, so I will jump back with this new update.

Re: PS5 Firmware Update: All the Features You May Not Know About

frankmcma

I wonder if you could unfollow all games and remove the, not sure what its called, news wallpaper theme. Once in a great while there is a news wallpaper that looks good, but 95% of the time they are not designed with the PS Dashboard in mind. When you get a wallpaper with a lot of text and not designed correctly, it looks like a visually uncomfortable mess. The opposite of previous, serene wallpaper themes.

I do like the individual game wallpapers (like Minecraft above) but it would be awesome to have a custom theme option to get rid of the badly designed news wallpapers.

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Has Turned Me Into a Total 60FPS Snob

frankmcma

Same here! I used to be interested in lines of resolution, shading, shadows, all this detail...now I am like..60fps mode..done. It's not impossible to go back, I just don't want to. I also research in purchases, its why I did not buy Watch Dogs Legion, because its only 30fps.

Re: Fallout 76 Unlocks the Vault with 2021 Content Roadmap

frankmcma

@Nakatomi_Uk Although the difference between the graphics on Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 is night and day on PS. Fallout 4 graphics are very basic with short draw distances, whereas 76 is much higher resolution and richer graphics. Also it's lush and colorful, compared to Fallout 4's very muted palette.

Re: Fallout 76 Unlocks the Vault with 2021 Content Roadmap

frankmcma

@Amusei All new content is always free. There is a micro transactions store which is just cosmetics, skins and building parts. Although they did sneak in a few kits like instant repair, which are very cheap and very handy. There is a Fallout 1st membership (like ESO) that gives some perks, but there is nothing you have to buy to play all the content.

Re: Fallout 76 Unlocks the Vault with 2021 Content Roadmap

frankmcma

@Bamila I think it will always require a connection. It is a (big) story driven game, even more so since they added NPCs a few months back. Also you don't really see people unless you do things like attend events or open up a shop at your camp to sell items, then you will have people swinging by to check out your store. If you want real solo, you can join the Bethesda Fallout 1st plan ($8 a month if you pay yearly) and you get your own Fallout 76 server, literally just you (and friends invite only).

Re: Fallout 76 Unlocks the Vault with 2021 Content Roadmap

frankmcma

@huntbearpig I'm about 250 hours in and I would say its just as good as the previous Fallouts, plus it is constantly being updated, tweaked and extended. I did play through the very rough first year, and that was frustrating. But they doubled down and fixed things.

The best part is you can play completely solo or with others, both experiences are great. The base building is more advanced and you can visit each others camps, I have visited some and gotten some tours and it is amazing how much time is spend on building these enormous compounds.

But to all those those waiting for "Fallout 5"..it is already here. I feel that if you love Fallout, you will love this game. Plus it is always on sale on PSN for like $15.

I do hope they do a PS5 version with 60fps and upgrades, BUT for the price, massive content, and dedication to on-going plans, it's hard to go wrong. I'd take a chance!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 367

frankmcma

Division 2, jumped back in and now sucked back in recently. Finished WONY DLC finally and now going through the staggering amount of end game content. Need to get back to Assassins Creed Valhalla, played for about 15 hours and dropped off for a couple weeks. I think my 4 year old wants to play more of Unicorn Princess, so that may be happening.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Expectations for PSVR 2 on PS5?

frankmcma

Offer tethered as an option. Basically mimic the Oculus Quest 2, which plays current games standalone and if you tether to a PC you can play higher end Oculus Rift games.

So the PSVR can play all current games right on the device, but for next-gen games, you can cable to a PS5. Kind of like the Vita with remote play concept.

Resolution is key but also important is refresh rate. I’ve had the Oculus Go, Quest and Quest 2, and refresh makes things more visually comfy. My current Quest 2 runs at 90Hz with a 120Hz upgrade coming soon.

So yes maybe a tether option would work. If they can get the device around 300(US) like the Q2, they could build a game eco system that buyers could get into without even owning a PS5. And if they have a PS5, they can play better games.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 365

frankmcma

Got sucked back into Divison 2, finished the campaign and took a break a while back. Updated to the PS5 4K 60fps and checked it out, it makes a stunning looking game even more amazing. Also playing the game that keeps on giving, Borderlands 3. Started Valhalla, 12 hours in and not sure how I feel. Seems like raid after raid but now that some of the extra mechanics are opening up, it’s getting a bit more interesting. Need to try that Fuser demo.

Re: Sony to Unlock PS5 Storage Extension This Summer

frankmcma

@Carl-G Yes I am only waiting for this one feature, back up saves to USB on PS5. Putting hundreds of hours into some games, it's very unnerving to have no backup. If you get a corrupt game save, and then that save is uploaded to the cloud, overwriting your last save, you are toast. That is assuming you have PS Plus, if you don't, you have one save file on one system. On PS4/Pro I had one thumb drive with every game save from every game backed up. Still do. Hope this feature comes to PS5 sooner than later

Re: First Immortals Fenyx Rising DLC Listed for Late January Release

frankmcma

Love this game! Bursting with vibrant colors, fun stories, magical soundtrack, and humor.

Open worlds are my jam but I feel recent AC games have gotten almost too exhausting. Was gonna get Valhalla, but for some reason took a chance on this and so glad I did.

Takes the best elements/mechanics from Zelda and Assassins Creed and polishes them into shining gems. While still creating something very unique.

Hope to see a lot more from this fresh IP and excited for the expansions.

Re: Soapbox: I Can't Keep Up with Service Games

frankmcma

My issue is with games that have various (un-asked-for) online services, single player games that have to be connected to the internets. Borderlands 3 loads up but you have to pause on the menu to see if there is a (not an update) hot fix. Immortals Fenyx Rising loads so quick on PS5, but then stops the main menu from loading while the game goes online and “checks for additional content”.

I feel like with the speedboat that is the PS5 SSD that the “connected features” can often be an anchor.

Re: Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Still Exists as PS5 Upgrades Detailed

frankmcma

Yes this game had a rough launch, but Ubisofts doubled (tripled?) down and has been doing many updates, improvements, and has worked to make the game awesome.

I like to call it "Skyrim with Guns", massive open world, lots of customization, fun campaign, tons of endgame activites, varied locations (snow and tropical beaches), and tight gameplay. You can play RPG-loot based or turn it off for immersive mode. Most customization features in any game I have played.

Plus you can get the base game for real cheap during Ubisofts sales. I am closing in on about a hundred hours and keep going back. I do recommend doing the campaign first, it primes you for all the endgame activities. Also toggle on your virtual AI team, it makes it more engaging during missions.

I do wish they could get up to 4k 60fps, but even playing at 4k 30fps now looks great. A PS5 version would be awesome.

Updates are often, in fact here is the latest one from like a week ago: https://youtu.be/epqQYjBvf3k

The game is as fun as that video

Re: PS5 Pre-Order Situation Is a Mess as Sony Sends Unclear Statement and Retailers Open Early

frankmcma

@Ben8371 Exactly. Sony did nothing wrong. If anyone wants to blame, look to Walmart who sent out a tweet for pre-orders a day early (they have broken street dates and sold stuff early before) disregarding their agreement with Sony. Then all the other stores were like, well we should click launch too (more bad decisions). I am sure Sony is madder than we are that Walmart torpedoed their carefully crafted marketing plans.

I expect Sony to do another date and merchants to have another round of pre-orders at some point. At least I hope so. I did not hear about this until late in the day yesterday, by then everywhere was sold out. Didn't even get a chance.

Re: The Division 2 Reaches Bargain Bin Price of $2.99 on PlayStation Store

frankmcma

Great to see everyone deciding on a 3 dollar purchase. PLEASE do not buy. For everyone wanting an open world game with spectacular graphics, tight open world gameplay loop, and an amazing environment where there is tons to do, please do purchase. After getting D2 on a sale, I have not had so much fun with solo play and love hitting a button to have nearby agents pop over and help me out. Think Fallout with better loot, better mechanics, and better progression. The story is generic and barely there BUT this is an amazing game that looks and play great especially at 4K/HDR. It’s a cover based shooter (somewhat) but you can get a shield and go in guns blazing. Anyway..give it a try and add me. Love, love, LOVE this game!
