The Elder Scrolls Online will be getting a huge overhaul in two months time as the upgraded PlayStation 5 version has been confirmed to be nearing launch. Bethesda's MMO will be hitting PS5 on 8th June 2021, bringing with it a long list of visual and technical enhancements. Those who already own the game on PS4 will be entitled to a free upgrade and the trailer above can start to give you a good idea of what to expect. From the looks of things, this is an impressively meaty upgrade that will make the world of The Elder Scrolls Online shine on consoles.

First and foremost, the MMO will run at 60 frames-per-second when Performance Mode is selected. Currently capped at 30, it'll be the upgrade that seasoned players will notice the most. Not far behind will be shorter load times, with a very detailed blog post on The Elder Scrolls Online website stating some have been cut almost in half. Draw distances have also been almost doubled across the board, PS5 will support higher resolution textures, and improved antialiasing helps to further smoothen greenery and in-game structures.

The developer also focused its efforts on enhancing reflections, which will be most noticeable in areas featuring water. Shadows have gotten so much love that what you see on PS5 will be equivalent to Ultra settings on PC while the depth of field will create even more realistic background views. Lastly, ambient occlusion and screen space global illumination have both received an upgrade, but we're not going to sit here and pretend we know what either of those features are.

The PS5 version will launch on the same day as upcoming expansion The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood, meaning you can enjoy that new content natively on Sony's latest system from day one. Are you looking forward to checking out these major updates? Could they tempt you into trying the MMO out for the first time? Role play in the comments below.
