Japanese PS5 Sales Continue to Improve Following Launch of Cheaper Model 1

The Japanese games market is pretty much cornered by Nintendo and has been for a while, but Sony's still plugging away with PS5, and it's slowly getting better for the console.

Late last year, a new, Japan-exclusive PS5 model launched with a reduced retail price and support for the Japanese language only. It's proven to be popular, and sales numbers over the last couple of weeks have continued to grow.

According to Famitsu (thanks, Gematsu), combined sales of PS5 models reached 46,753 during the period.

By comparison, Switch 1 models totalled 46,360, so PS5 outsold it by just a hair.

These sales numbers don't really put much of a dent on Nintendo's dominance in the country, but at least things are trending in the right direction.

Here's the full rundown of hardware sales over the last two weeks:

  1. Switch 2 – 313,838 (4,097,905)
