The concept on paper shouldn't work well but it can. You should give Sonic Mania a try. It's the best 2D Sonic game and it's not even from Sega.

@clvr I'm starting to believe there is some sort of Team Sonic curse at work here. At least, it looks like Yuji Naka has lost his mojo. His last big game, Rodea the Sky Soldier on the Wii, was a big flop.

Bloodstained is great and the two 8bit style spinoffs are arguably even better. Definitively a rising new IP in my book.

Concerning censorship, I used to think "thank god for PC" for standing for free market, freedom of expression and artistic license/integrity but the last couple of years pretty much changed that.

Nowadays, Steam is just as much a bunch of ***** than Sony. Anime tiddies from Japan are the new moral panic. I can play a "western style of animation" game like "Futa fix dick dine and dash" with zero censorship (looks good lol I'm not judging) but they add clothes on waifus and ban japanese games like we lived in a caliphate. When Nintendo censors less than you you know you ***** up Sony.

I have high hopes for Ys IX and I'm intrigued by the WOD werewolf game. That universe's lore is fascinating.

It was supposed to come out for PS4 last november. I'm pretty hyped for this game.

Anyways, there is a demo available for anyone curious.

My backlog is like the universe: in eternal inflation.

Just for last year PS4 games I still need to play: Yakuza like a dragon, Sakuna of rice and ruin, Dreams, Mega Man Zero/ZX legacy collection, Langrisser I & II, Nioh 2, Doom eternal, Persona 5 Royal, FF VII remake, Trials of mana, Sakura Wars, Maneater, Little Hope, Immortal Fenyx rising... plus a lot of older games were ported on PS4 in 2020.

After the Cyberpunk 2077 debacle, people should wait for the release and not preorder the PS4 version. No demo on PS4 makes me suspicious.

It's a great crossover but the fact the event is only available for a week is dumb. I mean, F2P games do that to entice players to continue to play every week but why do this with a single player game?

Thank god Sucker Punch didn't do that with their exclusive Playstation costumes for Ghost of Tsushima.

@sanderson72 I'm excited for this too! The collection has 4 games: Turrican, Turrican 2, Super Turrican and Mega Turrican. I have zero experience of the 2 originals but I've played the 2 consoles (snes and genesis) games so it will be half new for me.

I'm happy too because it has a platinum. Sadly, many retro collections do not have one, like the Mega Man legacy collections, the castlevania and contra anniversary collection, the Disney afternoon collection and the SNK 40th collection.

@Jimmer-jammer To add to your thoughts. The whole "trope" thing is getting ridiculous. A cliché exists because it's something that worked well previously. It's just a narrative tool. The problem is not in using them but to rely only on and overusing them.

@Olmaz I know right? GoT story is really good for an open world game. It has a simple but well-thought 3 acts classic narrative structure.

Just like a haiku, it takes great skills to be able to be concise narratively while being powerfully immersive and evocative.

My hypothesis is that most current "professionnal" critics do not like narrative simplicity because they think it means bad writing. They prefer things with convoluted narrative that "subvert expectations".

@PossibLeigh You should try some old Atari 2600 classics like "Adventure". It will give you a new sense of appreciation for 8 bits graphics. 😄

Anyways, Shovel Knight is gorgeous for a "8 bit game" and it would be impossible to run it on an actual NES.

I really like Housemarque games so I will give this a try eventually, but I can't help myself from thinking that the protagonist is awfully bland and unappealing. Looks like Karen in space.

Pretty sure the "taxation included pricing" is an european-only thing.

@MrMetroid In Quebec, it's 15% and we pay digital sale taxes "officially" since January 1st 2019 but I remember that when I bought games on Nintendo eshop or Steam in the past, I had to pay taxes on digital since at least 2015. It's really stupid.

Hopefully this game and Hades for PS4/PS5 both get announced at the Games Awards.

@ellsworth004 There's about 65 millions epileptics in the World, mostly in developped countries. It's not that common. For example, it is estimated that around 1-2 % of the US population is epileptic.

Still, games should avoid flashing lights. I'm not epileptic but they are ***** annoying anyways.

Well before bloodline 2 release, people should play Vampire the masquerade: coteries of New York and Vampire the masquerade: shadows of New York, available on PS4. It's a great way to refresh your memories about the lore and showing your support for the franchise.

Looks great but the fact there's "only" 101 creatures to collect is a bit of a letdown for me.
